Gosh - this will be hard to write. Mainly because the owner identified me as a "Yelper" and will no doubt recognize this review (hint to self: never take photos in front of staff). But here goes!

I give this place 3.5 stars. Came for lunch and ordered the mussels poulette ($12): mussels with celery, pancetta, thyme in a cream sauce. Also had the pommes frites for an extra $2.50 which are really like garlic shoestring fries. I hadn't had mussels in ages and was really looking forward to it. The last time was in Auckland, which is famous for its green-lipped mussels. I had forgotten how much smaller mussels are in California and should have ordered a salad to go with!

The mussels were cooked up well, I just found the sauce to be too salty. Not exactly what you could mop up your bread with (I know, bad manners!).

My friend had the skirt steak salad and had to leave bits of it behind because she found it too fatty. When I asked what she thought of it, she said, "Well, it didn't blow up my skirt!" (ah Lenore, you crack me up). I guess you wouldn't want any type of food to blow up there, but what I think she meant was that it wasn't spectacular. I don't recall the price and it is not listed on their online menu, but it was around $12 - $14.

The ambiance is very minimalist almost bordering on being too stark: a curving blank white brick wall w/ brown furnishings. It feels modern, for sure, but seems like it is lacking a touch of something. Perhaps some unique lighting fixtures? Anyway, I still enjoyed being somewhere out of the norm and I must admit that I haven't run across any decor like this in Sacramento.

On a nice day, I could see the potential of the outside seating area.

Service was friendly enough and you can tell that the very chic (and impossibly svelte) couple who own the restaurant (I'm assuming they are the owners) take pride in their establishment. Come here for a lingering lunch. Not a I-only-have-an-hour-and-then-its-back-to-the-offic e lunch. Go next door to Crepe Danielle's or Chinois for that.

Finally got around to trying this place, and I've got to say I was favorably impressed.

When they opened in my vicinity, I was pleased to hear because we don't have a lot of bistro-type dining near us.  I've followed the progress, including talking to friends who have gone, reading the review in the Sac Bee (boo!), and of course trusty old Yelp.  From those sources, it was hard to come up with a clear summary of what to expect.

My dining companion tried this place back right after they opened, and she wasn't enthused to go back with me.  She didn't fight me on it, but I'd infer she thought of it as a 2/3 star joint after her experience.  However, after our meal, she admitted that she was glad she gave it a second chance because they have definitely advanced on the learning curve over the past few months.

There were probably 4 different entrees on the menu that I would have liked to try, so I will be going back for certain.  I liked everything we tried.  Hits for me included the prawn "stix" and mussels nantaise.

I found the service to be very comfortable, friendly, coordinated, and unobstrusive.  Ambience was decent, although it feels a little too hard and sterile for some reason.  Maybe the white brick walls?  Anyway, not a deal-killer by any means.  It was comfortable.

I guess my criticism would be around the pricing; it seems very inconsistent.  Appetizers seemed fairly priced around $7, as did their house burger at $12 (which sounded fabulous and want to try it).  But if you want their pommes frites with the burger (and trust me, you will), it's $5 more for the fries?!  And my companion's cocktail was $9.  Other dishes seemed more logically priced; a pasta special sounded great and was $16; a bowl of mussels is $12 for a fair sized serving.  The owner was pushing the lamb special as a house specialty; just wasn't that hungry.  They have a filet mignon special every night as well; different preparations.  I think the lamb and filet were both close to $30.  I guess that the restaurant is shooting for higher margins on drinks and sides, knowing that most people will scrutinize the appetizers and mains.

They have a cool bar, and a couple of (French?) beers on tap, plus he has some different booze than everyone else has.  Wine list looked good, although I was hoping for more Rhone varietals given the general theme of the menu; a great Syrah or Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre would have been good.

So, overall, I will definitely go back and try the other things on the menu, and I'm glad to have one more good option closer to home.

I absolutely loved the atmosphere at the restaurant. It's not just a place to have a great food. It's Entourage, music, social experience and amazing friendly owners. What a great place to spend a pleasant evening surrounded by fun crowd. If I am in Sacramento that's the only place for me...

Thank you guys, great job!

Great addition to the neighborhood. I avoided the place at first due to a negative review In the paper but finally tried it for myself. Have been there 3 times and loved it each time. Took my Mom there one time for dinner and she really liked it too. Urban casual ambience, wonderful specials. Fresh ingredients, seasonal and flavorful menu choices.

We had a nice meal here. The owner came by our table to see how the food was and get our feedback. This is listed as a $$ but dinner for 2 with cocktails and wine was just over $200. So more like $$$$ and unfortunately too expensive for regular neighborhood dining. But we will try to return as budget allows.

Good vibe - lots of personal attention from the owners- menu, wine list, selection of spirits are specificly choosen and limited assuring a fine choice with ease.  Food is spot on, portions just right using local produce, nothing fancy, nothing over the top.  Great place for friends to meet, have a cocktail and enjoy a late meal after a busy day at work.
Love having nice restaurants and good seletions away from busy midtown!  Glad to have Plan B in the area.

Plan B finally RE-OPENED.  I've been anticipating this day for awhile, since I fell in love with Plan B when it was a neighborhood bistro in the Greenhaven-Pocket Area of Sacramento. The long trek from South Sacramento to revisit this new "old" gem of mine was worth it.

To the people of North Sacramento - Plan B is awesome! I was REALLY sad the owners had to move out of their old location due to restaurant size and property space accommodations. It became too good in the area and needed to expand their wings for the increasing number of diners. I am JEALOUS of you because it is no longer a few blocks from me. Please support this restaurant, welcome the owners, and make it YOUR neighborhood bistro now.

The consolation restaurant that replaced Plan B is now Ravenous Cafe (please refer to my Yelp review on them), which I love. So no hard feelings against Plan B's move. ;)

Appetizer:
I shared a plate of my favorite coconut-cilantro-chile-galic mussels w/ a side of "frites" (crispy thin fries with lavender infused salt). This combo is an oldie, but a goodie from the original Plan B cafe.

Mains:
ME: I ordered the special seared scallops w/ pureed potatoes and roasted veggies. Delicious and very light on a hot day. It wasn't the best seared scallops I had per say (that award goes to Le Bernardin in NYC, which is the French Laundry of seafood restaurants), but amongst bistros - I'd say it's really good.

FRIEND: Parparadelle pasta w/ chicken. Pasta was served al dente with a very light cream sauce. Not too heavy either. Good flavor combinations.

Dessert:
Apple Tart Tatine, which was served warm with a scoop of vanilla gelato. OH WOW!  This was delicious.  One of the best I've tasted in a long time. I think it would certainly rival a French or Quebecois pastry chef's version. I'm really a sticker on crusts, because it's the most difficult part of any tart or pie. Plan B created a wonderful rendition of a French classic.

Service: It's obvious that Plan B's servers and management are going through opening jitters and smoothing out the edges. I'm going to be patient and lenient, since it's been long time for everyone. I'll give a more accurate review in 2-3 months. (It's like watching a musical theater production on opening night versus waiting 2 months into the season - there's a HUGE difference.)

Plan B appears to have the same menu - so everything else should be solid, like the roasted chicken, the mussel dishes, as well as the pastas. This restaurant is certainly a neighborhood keeper.

*Note: For those not familiar with the North Sacramento-area, Plan B is in the adjacent complex next too Chinois, Danielle's Creperie, and Cafe Vinoteca. It's easy to pass by, so just drive into the lot where the above mentioned establishments are located and you'll eventually find Plan B.

We had dinner here last night and it was a disaster. First we ordered the calamari that had no seasoning so I had to ask for salt. My husband had the rib-eye steak that came out looking like it was thrown in the weeds before it was put on his plate and then topped with frozen butter that wouldn't melt because his steak was cold. I had the burger that came out raw. Seriously I cut it in half and it was raw meat. I asked them to please make me another one, which the waiter took care of. However, the whole thing took so long that my husband had finished his meal before I got my burger back. When I got my burger back I took off the top of the bun and it was the exact same burger that I sent back all cut in half with the same toppings and cheese. I seriously think they put it in the microwave. When I actually tried the burger it had absolutely no seasoning. I could not believe it. I waited all this time for the burger and it tasted like nothing, even though it has mushrooms, cheese, and ham on it. I tried to eat it because I staving, but I could not because it was so gross. When the bill came, I was seriously pissed that the gross burger was still on the bill, so my husband asked the manager to remove it. He did end up removing it, but he got all pissy. Also, their tiny little beer sampler glass martini's (which the manager says are 5oz., but I doubt they are even that) suck, so don't bother. I have no problem paying for the standard 6oz. martini that every other restaurant I go to has that tastes great, but seriously this jerk thinks that his crappy watered down martini's are worth $9 just because he uses premium liquor. Seriously, what decent restaurant in Sacramento doesn't use grey goose in the cocktails? I don't know maybe it's just because he was French that he thought I should have been impressed by him and his restaurants "uniqueness". Apparently, I should go around blabbing that I am also French, and maybe I would have gotten better service because his food is crap and every other restaurant in Sacramento has better food and service. His "uniqueness" needs a serious adjustment. Oh and the "specials" changed throughout the time we were there and the poor waiter had to go back and tell a couple who ordered one of them that what they ordered had to be different.

LOVE THIS PLACE!

Great food, great service, gorgeous space.

Have the mussels with the pomme frites, and the tartelettes. All are delicious, well prepared, well seasoned, and beautifully presented.

This restaurant is a wonderful addition to an area starving for places to eat.

Ignore the Bee and their jackass critic. The dude couldn't spot a good meal if it fell out of the sky, landed on his face, and wiggled.

LOVED IT.   Had one of the specials o' the day-- sea bass-- and it was excellent--crispy on outside and wonderfully moist and tender and flavorful on inside.  Beautifully cooked piece of fish. We also had the mussels nantaise which were excellent, and surprisingly low priced.  They seriously need to serve a spoon with the mussels for the nantaise sauce which was  crawl-in-the-bowl-and-roll-around good.  Veggies accompanying were excellent--local, fresh, in-season. And thumbs up for Fischer beer. Never had it before, will definitely have it again.  Dessert was pears poached in red wine served with cheese. Again excellent.  Service was attentive.  I'll definitely go back to Plan B...maybe tonight!

Parents: If you are looking for an upscale, non-cafeteria style, quiet meal, consider Plan B. The owners are very friendly and always remember us.

We've had several meals here with our kids (ages 3 and 5) with great success. Their kids' meals are a good value. For $5.95 you may order:
- tricolor corkscrew pasta with a white cream sauce;
- charbroiled burger with pomme frites;
- chicken strips with pomme frites;
- grilled cheese with pomme frites.

Our kids especially enjoyed their specially prepared chocolate milk in covered cups with a straw (with what appeared to be a generous dose of chocolate syrup). Last night, our almost 4 year old daughter proclaimed "They have the best pasta in the WHOLE WORLD."

Ask for the highchair or booster seat if you need it. They keep them in the back.

Decor is sleek and modern in an understated way. Reminds me of West Elm's aesthetic. It is particularly warm and cozy on winter evenings. This cafe is small and intimate. I wouldn't suggest bringing groups larger than 6 people.

The duck special is terrific and I've enjoyed the salmon as well. The current location has been sub-optimal for them and they may be moving to either Fair Oaks/Watt or Midtown. Our kids attend a nearby school and we'll miss being able to bring them to Plan B for dinner before special events when the restaurant moves.

I really loved this restaurant when they were in Greenhaven, I ate there many times at lunch, and they had absolute best roasted chicken that melted like butter in your mouth.  I went there a couple of weeks ago and was not so wowed! The chicken was dried out and way overcooked and the veggies on the side were way to salty.  The cauliflower and leek soup was the only saving grace.  I was quite disappointed.  The service was good, but overall the experience was not worth the hefty price tag.

Waited patiently for this place to open up in the Arden area - I was devastated when they closed their Pocket location - and it was worth it.  The new place is nice - very simple but elegant decor.  Nice ambience.  The menu was unchanged and just as tasty as I remembered.  The shrimp stix still worth it at $7 for 2 pieces of tiger prawn wrapped in pancetta.  The mussles (nantaise is my fav) still to die for and the rosemary chicken just melts in your mouth.  Since it's a bigger place they do have more servers now (rather than just the owner and the mrs) and they seemed nice enough.  Overall I am very happy that they re-opened and that they are serving quality food at prices that are expected for a place like this.  Hopefully they stay put here.

Plan B is worth the drive into the 'burbs of South Sac!

What a great find.  Several foodies had sung its praises and I finally had a chance to try it.  What a treat!  The best mussels in town.  They rival and beat the ones at 55 degrees and Tapas!  Soft, plump and juicy mounds of orange and black that are simmered in butter, cream and shallots.  And then the fries.  Tiny slivers of potato goodness drenched in garlic, crisp on the outside, pillowy inside!  I still get goosebumps!

The decor is modern and minimalistic, the restaurant quaint and comfortable.  The service very effective and personal.  The food is fusion french with the highlights being the rack of lamb, and the amazing mussels.  They also run specials each day .

The best part is that they are moving into civilization and are busy looking for a place inside the grid.  The 'burbs apparently are too busy standing in line at Olive Garden to appreciate the culinary gem they have amidst them.

Maybe it's my medical background but when i hear "Plan B" multiple thoughts run through my head and none of them contain delicious food.  Thoughts that others might have are "it can't be mine" or "why didn't i wear a hat." But from now on Plan B means good food, great people, and even better fries! It is somewhat ironic that I went to Plan B for mothers day brunch because if my parents knew about Plan B back in the day, there is a good chance that I would not be here to write this review ;-). They had a set brunch menu to choose one appy, entree, and dessert from.

I decided to start with the tomato tartelette. The tartelette was a bit chewy and a bit plain. This was just so so in my book. I found myself picking at my sisters mushroom tartelette which if I could do it over, would have ordered instead. It was mixed in with bacon and you can never go wrong with bacon.

I have become a sucker for eggs benny so I decided to give it a try. The sauce was good but not fantastic. The dish as a whole was satisfying but again I think I ordered wrong. I also tried the rack of lamb and the steak, which were both excellent. I felt the lamb was juicy and had the perfect amount of "gaminess."

I have to mention the fries. Oh the fries. I laughed when my sister wanted to order an extra side of fries even though some came with our entrees. This was until I tried one of these fried pieces  of deliciousness. The fries were crispy yet light, and lightly sprinkled with some herbs and salt. I would go back just for them!

If I was rating solely on what I ordered Plan B would get a 3. But thankfully I was able to also eat a bunch of other peoples food which were all great. This gave me a better idea of what Plan B is all about which is a 4 stars establishment.

I had dinner here for the first time last Friday evening.
I  had known about this small restaurant for a while since I spend a bit of time in this neighborhood.

The space is small but tastefully arranged.

We ordered the potato fennel soup to start our meal.   I had the rack of lamb and my dining companion chose the scallops.  A glass, each, of the house red wine accompanied our meals.  (The house wine is French.)

The soup was delicious and very savory.  It wasn't over-thickened or over-fenneled.  Delicious!

When our entrees arrived, I noted the attractive presentation before I dug in.   The lamb was perfect and arranged over a bed of mashed potatoes and diced vegetables with melted butter.  The scallops looked good, too.  We traded bits of lamb and scallop to try each other's plates.

The flavor intensities of both were amazingly good!  I love the taste of lamb, but I would have been just as happy with the juicy, plump scallops the was Plan B prepares them.

It's very nice to have such a good restaurant located close by where I live.

The service is very good, but not intrusively so.

It's a small, quiet center in the Pocket area where this place shines like a gem.

I had been eyeing this place for weeks as I walked towards the 24-Hr. Fitness for my workouts.  Our son finally convinced us to go on a late Sunday afternoon, and we were certainly not disappointed.

When we arrived, the restaurant was almost filled, but we managed to get a table for three thanks to a friendly waiter/hostess.  The rack of lamb and rib eye looked and tasted wonderfully as I sampled the dishes served to the three of us. Service was great and the waiter was very unobtrusive but very helpful when needed.  All three of us shared our desserts, and we were more than satisfied with the dining experience.

There were several parties that came in after us and most were happy to be seated outside the front door in an area protected by heavy insulated plastic.  There must have been six or eight tables out there and it was as attractive as it could have been.  Plan B Cafe is a welcomed high quality site in our neighborhood which lacks good restaurants.

I took my family to celebrate my mama's birthday.  We had a great time over there.  Service was great in this little restaurant.  My step sister got a seafood dish and she said it was delish.  My step brother and i both got the filet mignon specials and they were both cooked just the way we wanted.  My mom and my step dad both got the grill leg of lamb and they loved it.

We ordered 4 desserts on the menu and we all shared it.  Gotta say I love each and everyone of them!!!!  yumm!!

The restaurant was originally from San Francisco, and I think they add a great addition to the neighborhood.

Plan B has great decor--it's tiny, but uses its space well.  A few mirrors on the shelves help to open up the feel, and the vases for flowers (mounted on the walls) are very elegant.   There is a vinyl-enclosed outdoor seating section to help with adding tables.  It's fairly warm, even on chilly nights.

The proprietor is the server, with a few backservers running around.   So when it's really busy, service is a little slow.  But friendly!

The fries are great--heavy herbs and cute holders.  My dad had the fish special of the day, which he said was delicious.  His wife and I decided to do small plates instead.  We each had a cup of cauliflower soup which was really nice, and not too heavily creamy.  The only thing we thought was that there could have been more texture instead of such a smooth consistency.  Then we each ordered a steak skewer.  It's two very small skewers for about $6, which I found over-priced, but tasty.

She had the butter-lettuce salad.  I had the goat cheese/tomato tartlette.  The tartlette was tasty.  It's a thin crust, really delicious.  If I were making it, I would add caramelized onions, perhaps.

Between the three of us, with one glass of wine, the total was $50.  Moderately reasonable for a party of three.  It was crowded but cute.  Good food.  I think the prices would seem more reasonable if the establishment had more of a fine-dining feel rather than a cafe ambiance.

As a SF foodie, I admit, I can be snobby when it comes to restaurants outside of SF, NY and LA. But when visiting my brother-in-law last weekend, we decided to check the place out as it was near his house and well, we were hungry. Boy were we delighted! The food was fantastic - I had a goat cheese and tomato tart, my hubby had a butter lettuce salad, and his brother went for the steak sandwich. While we were trying to be good, they convinced us to share some fries and then the dessert - creme caramel and a pear tart.

We loved the food so much that we went back the next day for brunch and noshed on great hangover food - omelets, burgers, grilled cheese, lamb.

My favorite part of this place are the owners - they cut their teeth at some top restaurants in NY and SF and have French roots. The owners do everything - prepare the food, serve the tables, clear the tables. It's a fantastic family joint and well worth hitting "the pocket" whether you're living in the Sac area or just visiting. I wish them the utmost success.

I grew up right around the corner of the place.

My friends family used to own the coffee shop in the strip mall.

I helped another friend out when he opened a Tapioca Express in the exact same spot that plan b has now occupied and we sold Tapioca drinks for $3 dollars.

That's why I am so confused as to why two bacon wrapped prawns cost $7 bucks (though they we're so good that I had 2 orders).  The mussels prepared with Creme Fresh were very good and decently priced for San Francisco $13, but a bit over-priced I feel for a cafe at a strip mall in Sacramento--even if it is in the Pocket Area.  The fries, as other reviewers have noted, are delicious.

A review posted on their front door refers to the restaurant as a San Franciscan bistro.  And to some extent, that is what they are.  A small space, with cramped seating, higher than average prices and excellent food.  Unfortunately, the cramped seating and high prices are a cause of limited reale state in San Francisco; problems that a strip mall in the Pocket Area doesn't really have.

On food and decor alone, this place would get 4 and a half stars from me; the rest bring it down a star.

Went here for brunch, ordered just some simple eggs and bacon.  To give this place a full, fair review, I'll need to go back again.  Until then, I'll leave it at 4 stars for the AWESOME fries served with my meal.  Thin, garlicky, and delicious.  I am also quite impressed by the fact that, as far as I know, only 3 people work there:  The owner (who also serves), the chef, and another server.

Hearing name of the place, though, may send some into giggles.

Last night, it was Plan A.

Jeez, did I have a horribly long day, traveling in awful weather to and from Martinez, sitting in a loooong meeting, eating bad catered food.  When I got home, all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball on the couch and eat frozen pizza.  But I realized that I hadn't seen the handsome husb in what seemed like days, so I dragged myself out for a date.

Of course, being tired and having the grumples, I couldn't decide on where to go.  I wanted to go someplace new, the husb remembered this place.  Since it's out in the pocket, it's easy to not think about for us.  But I'm so glad we did.

This place has all the qualities I like in a restaurant.  Good food, attentive (but not too much so) service, and a cozy, friendly atmosphere.  I agree with Hecka that it's not so much a cafe, but something a little more elegant.  Even the restroom was candlelit.

I had the famous lambchops, served with mash and ratatouille, and the man had mussels nantaise w/ frites.  The tiny baby lamb was tender and delicious.  That lamb probably wasn't even old enough to walk yet, it was so tender.  The ratatouille was good, more refined than I'm used to, and full of flavor.  The mash wasn't my favorite--it didn't really even need to be on the plate.
The mussels were big and plump, and there was plenty of saucy goodness to stick fries or the bread into to soak it up.  The fries were crispy goodness, I could've eaten them all night.  We also split a mache salad with little wedges of brie and granny smith apples.
Did I mention yet that this place has house wine?  Yeah baby.  It doesn't even come from a spigot in the wall.  And it was only $5 a glass.  We each had 3 glasses and it was still less than a bottle at any other place in town.
We ended with a cute little pear tart and coffee.  It was great.

I stumbled out of there relaxed, a little drunk, and not that much poorer, the prices are so reasonable.  I had a great date with the husb, and it was a terrific way to put a happy end to my crappy day.

plan b is an unassuming restaurant in a small shopping plaza in pocket/greenhaven.  the decor was fantastic, minimalistic and tasteful with single irises lining the walls.

the food varied from not bad to great.  we started off with the calamari, mache salad and french onion soup.  the calamari was eh, ok...a little soggy, with the breading falling off the calamari rings.  the sauce tasted not-so-homemade.  the mache salad was good, with 2 slices of brie, 3 thin slices of green apple and tossed in a mustard vinegrette.  the french onion soup was also good but not my favorite.  good flavor and tons of onion, but only topped with a small piece of thin baguette and a sprinkle of cheese on the baguette.  i love my french onion soup covered in a thick layer cheese and to come out bubbling.

the entrees were much, much better.  i had the mussels.  i asked for a recommendation for the type of sauce and our waiter (i think he may have also have been the owner?) recommended the 4th one: nan-something.  it was with butter, shallots and creme fraiche.  yum!!!  fabulous.  my 2 other dining companions had the plan your own burger (with bacon and blue cheese) and the grilled prawns.  the burger was quite tasty, although a bit drowned out by the blue cheese, and the prawns were grilled to perfection with a white wine, rosemary and garlic sauce, with a side of roasted vegetable and a small heaping of mashed potatoes.

overall, a pretty good neighborhood place.  i wished that this place was closer to home or downtown, and it appears like my wish will be granted.  apparently, the owners are looking for a space downton.

The most frustrating thing about this restaurant is knowing when they are open since they don't keep consistant hours like 99% of the busineses out there do.  Three times in a row I made the drive to dine there and they weren't open because a) they were either on vacation b)took a long Labor Day Weekend and c)  They decided to shut down at 8pm because it was slow that night.   What is that all about?  Shutting down early because its slow?   Hey, I understand If you own your own business you can do whatever the heck you want, but don't expect customers to be there for you if you're not there for them in the hours you're supposed to.   FYI... The food is good if they are open.

Came here on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be.  There were 2 to other parties of 2 and a table of 4.  The entire time I was there, there was only one more party of 3.  This is a tiny nice place, somewhat elegant yet casual...you can feel comfy in short and a tee with flip flops (as I saw other patrons dressed similarly).  We were not greeted at the table with a smile or any true friendliness...rather we were directed to a table with a gesture, handed our menus, and left in peace to decide.  Our order was taken and before after about 10 minutes or less, our first order of calamari was planted at our table with out any verbal formalities.  Calamari was alright...it was fried and salted with sprinkles of julienned bell peppers, both red and yellow that added some color the dish.  There was a dipping sauce...perhaps marinara with a kick, too much spice so I ate it without the sauce.  The calamari was not overly coated but did not taste very crunchy...it was also a little bland (once again I couldn't handle the spicy sauce).  I had the mussels with fries as a meal.  Fries were skinny little things with herbs and salt (a little too much salt) coated all over.  The mussels were juicy and tasty, but just weren't very big and meaty.  I dipped the bread in the sauce and it was quite yummy.  The Plan B burger was just eh....you'll find the thinnest slice possible of ham, some mushrooms, swiss cheese, and a hamburger patty (which bf was not asked how he would like it...medium, rare?) on a crusty slice roll.  I like buns, burger would've been better on a bun!  For desert, a caramel something...which turned out to be a flan with caramel sauces and sliced almonds...was alright.

Overall, this place was ok for me.  I think I need to come back and have a real meal...like the rack of lamb or filet mignon or rib eye.  The food I had today was alright but nothing to rave about.  The service was eh....I thought it was lacking and quite unfriendly...bf like it because they were not pretentious.  I think the 2 people that waited on us said a combo of 5 words to us the entire evening.  Oh...and I don't like how they kept checking to see if we were done eating...it wasn't just a glance, it was constant peering over my plate!

we gonna do plan b ok...huh?...
i for one wanted to know what i missed out on that we had to settle for plan b...
a small resturant that serves breakfast lunch and dinner...
nice affluent pocet area.
i had a 'can only be cooked medium' burger
but should of had the filet burger...'which can be had rare'
confused...looked twice at the menu...
got the jedi look on the waiters face...
'your order is fine...no ground fillet for you tonight...'
acme bread is used.
a hard to see chalk board featured leg of lamb and other entrees.
the mussels with the different sauces sounded great...
we flashed to the cousin who had to be hospitalized bad mussels.
nobody has yet to try mussels ever again.

stick with the small plates and fries...they look real good
and the mussels did look good.

I had the lamb, which was delicious with good presentation.  My favorite part was the ratatouille.  The only thing that bothered me was the service...hearing that "everything is good" repeatedly got old.  I tried to order a salad with no dressing, got lectured and eventually gave in.  Moral of the story is if you have any special requests, get ready for them to take it personally.

Hmm...Is the name really Plan B Cafe?  I wouldn't call it a cafe, rather an elegant restaurant.  Nice, intimate ambiance with lovely lighting, pleasant, well-informed service. We didn't get the "everything is good" answer-we got a lightning quick answer which was "order the lamb, which was a tender, juicy, perfect rack of lamb with mint oil.  They seem to do red meat really well, as the ribeye and filet mignon also were superb.  Even the butter was a cut above, I swear! They offer 5 preparations of mussels, but the one I had failed to wow me, because the mussels themselves were not that tasty.  The sides weren't really that impressive, either, but that's ok because it was an exceptionally enjoyable dinner with a level of sophistication that you won't often find in Sac (sadly).

alas, i remain convinced that the pocket's best foodie treasures are found at nugget market- not unfortunately, at this little cafe whose chic and charming design woefully misrepresented the food my hubby and i ended up getting for lunch. a $10 burger and a $10 steak sandwich... both pieces of meat were charred beyond recognition, such that every bite tasted overwhelmingly of carcinogenic doom.  we overheard the chef murmuring about a freezer dysfunction to his friends sitting nearby (yeah, AFTER we'd taken our first bites)... perhaps that was what caused the chef to be overzealous with his grilling... but which is worse? serving possibly tainted meat at all or making it inedible with prophylactic burning???

perhaps we'd fare better at dinner, judging from previous reviews... but that's a gastronomical and financial risk i'm not currently prepared to take :( i'm giving 2 stars for the tasty pommes allumettes... and the fact that we didn't, after all, end up with a nasty gastroenteritis.

A friend gave us a gift card and going in had no idea.  The food here was great.  I had the rack of lamb and it was extraordinary.  The service reminded me of Paris though which isn't really a bad thing...  The service was courteous but like in Paris, they just left you alone to enjoy your meal.  I definitely have to go back.
