I've wanted to try Plaka Grill several times in the past only to find out they close pretty early since it's in the middle of Vienna along Main St. This time they were open and I got to finally try it out. Quick counter service. Got our food as it was picked up hot and fresh which is a huge plus.
Ordered some calamari and lentil soup to start. Calamari was crisp and had a solid aioli to go with it. Soup was hearty and came with some pita bread for only $3.25, great value. Had the Plaka Gyro, plenty of food for the $7 and loaded with good amounts of meat, sauce, fries and along with some onions/tomatoes. Looked small at a glance but then you get half way through and you realize everything is jam packed into a neatly wrapped messy package. Wish they were open later because this would make the perfect late night spot, alas. -

Chicago Gyro is the one to get with well seasoned meat and a much more complex flavor than the standard traditional gyro they have here which is overhyped. Not greasy, flavorful, plentiful. You will not go wrong with the Chicago.
Don't forget to Check-in as there is a 10% discount if you do. Probably can get that discount by just asking for it. -

After a long day of showing out of town friends the sights of D.C., we were famished! I read the Yelps about Plaka Grill, and we went for it. I can safely say this was the best Greek food I have ever had!
Plus, we arrived 5 minutes before closing, but the staff still treated us like we we royalty! Can't beat that with a stick!
We ordered both of the kinds of gyros that they serve and both were amazing. The dip sampler had five beautiful dips with hot pita bread. They gave us extra bread when we scarfed the first plate of triangles.
If you like Greek food, you'll LOVE Plaka Grill. Go there. -

This little place in the middle of Vienna is a hidden gem! Very nice, homey cozy feel to it. The staff is very nice and for the quality of food you get, the wait time is not a problem.
I had the Chicken Shawarma and my friend had the Mousaka. Both were excellent. Being from Bulgaria, I've had some good homemade Mousaka and this one very much rivals it. The Chicken was very flavorful and not dry at all. The sides (green beans and roasted potatoes) were also great and the greek salad had just the right amount of dressing on it. The Pita bread was nice, warm and soft. Proportions were also generous for the price. Give it a try! -

Excellent chicken souvlaki, tasty rice, quick service. The hummus was a let down, do not order it.

Why haven't I had this before!? Oddly this time, I did not read the reviews before I digged in. I simply trusted a certain confident individual to show me the best gyro in the northern va area. All I can say is that I am coming back! It is delicious!!! Nom nom nom!
Tip - Come on Sunday around 2 pm especially if you are hung over. Why you wonder??? 1) The herd doesn't come till around 5 or 6 = plenty of tables for your 20+ gyros. 2) The obvious, no waiting in line 3) You've just woken up and starving...therefore everything will taste even better!
For Christmas this year, if Santa has a yelp account or can read this somehow, I wish for a $50 or more gift card (no expiration date) to Plaka Grill. Or just have a couple of Plaka Gyros delivered at my front door on Christmas EVE not Christmas morning because I will be out of the country unless you want to rack extra miles on your sleigh. Btw, Santa don't bother checking your list, I have been a good girl all year ;) THANKS! -

Found this restaurant based on the great reviews. Ordered the gyro they were known for and it didn't disappoint. Delicious....
Just a heads up, a side of fries feeds a small army. I recommend splitting with at least 2 others -

Review from Jeremy C.
I am always looking for small "mom and pop" type restaurants that serve good, quality food. This place fits the bill. Nestled in a small plaza it is pretty small inside, but the food and service make up for it.
My girlfriend and I went on a week night to check it out. After reading reviews on yelp, we were pretty excited.
My girlfriend had the Plaka gyro and I had the Lamb Kampama. We shared some plaka fries as well. The dishes were well-priced and came in generous portion sizes. Both were flavorful and fresh and did Plaka Grill justice. The lamb was great!
Pros: Food is good (maybe more for quick bite rather than an all out feast), well priced.
Cons: The place is tiny, so you may have to do take-out. Location.
Overall, I would definately come back if I were in a Plaka type of mood... Cheers! -
Review from Geoff c.
i would say the food is A-ok. It's pretty good, but i feel like i've had better. The gyros (plaka and chicago style) were very decent. However, the desserts were quite excellent, as was recommended to us.
The staff is also incredibly friendly.
It's fairly small, but wasn't too crowded when we went. Many people seemed to be taking orders to go.
A gyro combo (with fries and a drink) + an appetizer came out to be roughly $15.

Based on Yelp reviews, I was expecting a bit more. I have been meaning to go here forever, but I am rarely out in Vienna, and when I am, I always forget about this place. I almost skipped it again tonight but traffic was so bad on 66 that I thought I would kill some time by stopping here for dinner.
I got the Plaka gyro combo. I correctly assumed that this would be too much food but since I wanted a drink anyway and was using the 10% off check-in offer, I figured I would go ahead and get the side of fries. The gyro was a good size, so although I think the combo is slightly overpriced, I think you get your money's worth for the gyro at least. I wasn't crazy about the meat; it was definitely soft and melted in my mouth but it seemed underseasoned. When combined with the other elements of the gyro, it was really good, but the gyro was too big to fit in my mouth, so there were several bites of just gyro meat and pita, and the gyro tasted like underseasoned hamburger. I think I would get the chicken instead; there were people eating it at the restaurant and it looked really good.
I also asked for extra tzatziki, my favorite part of any gyro/souvlaki, and either I didn't get it or they just put a very small amount on their gyros. I think I would ask for it on the side since you'd probably get more that way. The gyro was very good, though. The side of fries came in a bag, much like at Five Guys, but they were way better. I don't usually bother eating Five Guys fries, but these were well seasoned with salt and pepper. My only complaint about them is that they were really limp; I would ask for them well done if you like them crispy like me.
The counter guys were really nice and responsive, and my food only took about ten minutes to make. Overall, this was a solid meal. I wouldn't drive out to Vienna just to go here but I'd definitely recommend it and come again. -

What Plaka lacks in curb appeal and ambiance, it makes up for in good quality, low-cost food. Order the Plaka gyro combo -- an interesting pork-based take on the gyro with a not-too-dill sauce and a side of fries that, in my opinion, is better than Five Guys. Great little joint I'll return to if in Vienna.

This place is the bomb! Quality and quantity you can not go wrong. Reminds me of my time in germany where you could go up to the donner kabab and get a great treat on your way home from the club... except were grown up now and enjoy being able to sit down. It's tight on seats so if you go with someone - stake out a table - and give your money to your friend to order for you. They have a good system and it works... I wonder if they could take this place and bring one down to Haymarket, VA. Now that would be AWESOME!

Food taste good. I got the pork souvlaki. It was really not bad. I like the olives in the salad, but the salad was to greasy for me because I like to eat healthy. I tried the kotospanakopita too. It was also filled with too much grease. But, this thing taste good.
I took off one star because the people who work here weren't friendly. It Definetly felt like they felt like hey were doing me a favor by taking my order. -

It's a bit far to go for gyros and other Mediterranean food, but for the price, quality, and quantity, it's well worth the trip. I went there last night with a friend; she got a gyro Plaka style (awesome fries and the lamb was flavorful, tender, and moist).
I had the chicken souvlaki dinner combo with a side of rice pilaf (seasoned with onions, garlic, and thyme -- lovely!), which also came with very soft, warm, and well-seasoned pita bread. The chicken was grilled very well, and the subtle taste of herbs and butter was just right. It didn't taste heavy, and no flavor overwhelmed any others. The Plaka salad was very fresh and was a nice counter to the chicken, so that every bite had warm/cool and soft/crunchy elements.
The 10% off for showing a Yelp check-in is a definite plus, as well. Not to say that it's all that expensive to eat here. My meal was under $13 for dinner, and it's one of the pricier items on the menu. Also, I didn't get a chance to sample it this time, but Plaka Grill appears to have a decent selection of wine and beer, and some of it imported from the Mediterranean. -

Why didn't I come here sooner? My boyfriend and I decided to have Greek for dinner tonight, and I've heard good things about Plaka Grill so we decided to order take-out from here. I ordered the Plaka Gyro combo and he had the Chicago Gyro. They were both delicious! The staff was friendly and accommodating especially since we told them it was our first time there, and recommended dishes for us to try next time. I'm definitely going to come back here again! -

Yelp reviews are what brought me here, and I'm glad they did. Plaka is a teeny bit pricy, but it's Nova... I had the Plaka Gyro since I have a policy of ordering the house specialty on my first visit to a place. It was, hands down, the best Gyro I've had in this area. The pork was juicy and delicious. My wife had the Plaka salad and also thought it was good. The fries are excellent -- skinny, crispy, and flavorful.
The service was good. The counter help was friendly. The eating area was clean and well taken care of. Overall, an A+ -

I stand by my 5 star rating.
I have not found a better gyro in the DMV area. The meat is tender, slightly crisp, juicy and bursting with flavor. My favorite is the Chicago Gyro....'the same ol' combination of lamb, beef and spices. They also offer the Plaka style, which is more pork based. You can also get them stuffed with their amazing well seasoned fries for an extra .75 cents.
For those watching what they eat, you can get gyro meat or chicken on a bed of lettuce drizzled with Tzatziki which is equally delicious.

Overall the food was very good ad affordable. Everything we ordered was quite tasty. Here's a breakdown:
- Taramosalata (menu described it as a light dip of caviar blended with lemon & dill) -- don't expect the normal consistency of caviar (which is what I pictured when I read that recommendation). You can't really taste any fish roe, but it was delightfully light and salty
- Calamari - very lightly breaded and fried - nice
- Mixed grill - four skewers of different meats, all good.
- Moussaka (like a lasagna made with eggplant) - very good, has a nice crust on top from the broiler / salamander
- Kotospanakopita (chicken & spinach wrapped in crispy filo) - looked like a large burrito except made of filo dough. Very crispy and nice filling inside - one of the better spanakopitas I have had
- Bifteki (ground beef and lamb patty) - pretty good, a bit fatty and could use slightly more spice for flavor, but still quite good
- For the sides, had the giant lima beans and green beans with tomato and cinnamon, both of which were good
- Dessert was the Galaktoboureko (cream inside philo with syrup) and rizogalo (rice pudding) and both were good. The Galaktoboureko was especially good - crispy filo with warm syrup and a bit of charring on top from the heat - great!
The staff were very friendly, but a bit spacey and hence made some minor mistakes. The staff was young so probably not very experienced but I'm fine putting up with minor annoyances and have good food.
All this for four people we spent $70 and had some leftovers.
Didn't try the gyro this time, but will have to try it next time -

Plaka is easily one of my favorite spots to eat at in the area. I have never had a bad experience. The usual order is the chicago gyro plaka style (with fries in it) add feta. Always great. Their calamari is good, whatever sauce they give you with it is amazing. The mezze sampler is also really good - tyropita and spanokopita are decent, but the sauces are amazing. Salads are also great. Go here

Finally found a good place to grab a gyro close to home here in Fairfax. The service is quick and satisfactory, the food tasty and generally right off the grill. I've also tried the Bifteki dinner and found it satisfactory, but the gyro stuffed with fries is where it's at for me. Prices are good.

This place is DELICIOUS!!! Check it out!
We ordered: the Plaka Dip Sampler and Chicken Souvlaki Combos, and LOVED every bite!!! As other yelper have mentioned, amazing Tzatziki sauce and the seasoned fries at an excellent touch. I wasn't even able to make it to my Chicken Souvlaki when dining there and took it to go. (A few hours later it was still delicious.)
Tons of food for a great value. -
Review from Leslie J.
Great in-and-out spot when Greek cravings implore my taste buds. Quality food and vast menu selection. Fairly affordable prices. Consistent, attentive service. They probably do serve the best gyro in the area.
It's yet another corner gem in Vienna, but sometimes they do have their food truck on display to lure clientele in although this place is bustling as ever and has no trouble getting business.
Order their Plaka Gyro Combo -- served warm and juicy in a light, thin pita with the most tasty tzatziki sauce drizzled throughout the meat with a generous heaping of some of their seasoned fries wrapped right in. It's pretty life-changing and just utterly satisfying.
Note for the non-swine eaters: This combo does contain pork, and not lamb.
I will gladly come back for more now that I got a 10% off discount off my whole check just for checking in once through my Yelp app =). It's not much, but even without it, I would've made my way here eventually to try their other dishes/platters. I would like to compare their pork gyro vs. their lamb gyro next time around.Listed in: Vienna Gems

This. Place. Is. Amazing.
I popped in here one day and ordered up a Chicago Gyro (Lamb) and it blew my mind away. It was juicy, tender and hot! The portion size is pretty decent, so can't complain there at all.
As for service: They were prompt, friendly and very patient when I went over the menu with them. They're that awesome.

Let me just start off by saying what I ordered wasn't what I expected. Originally I was going to get two Plaka gyros for my boyfriend and I, but the dude asked if I wanted lamb and beef, and of course I would say YEAS considering how much I love me some lamb :D I asked if they had gyros with only lamb but sadly they didn't. So I got the one he suggested, the Chicago gyro.
When I ordered, I thought it would be slices of beef and lamb, but when I got it there was only one type of meat in there. I believe it was the two meats mixed together, and looked sorta like this sausage type thing??? ........But now that I think about it, they might have given me the wrong order because I remember there was actually a gyro on the menu with the description of "sausage" o.o Anyway for now I'm just going to assume that I got the right order. The lamb/beef thing tasted nothing like lamb or beef...more like artificial meat?? Wt.....wasn't necessarily bad tasting though, but considering how famished I was, this may be a biased opinion ;)
I took a bite out of my boyfriend's Plaka gyro which consisted mainly of pork and their special fries, and I thought it tasted so much better!! Juicier and more flavorful with the fries, and the pork actually tasted like pork. Man...
Since it's quite close to Tyson's Corner, the next time I go there, I'll probably give this place another go and try the other lamb/beef gyro item on the menu, or just stay on the safe side and get the Plaka gyro :)
Edit: Apparently the Chicago gyro "is like every other gyro in the country, that is, it is a mixture of lamb and beef that is cooked on a rotisserie and then sliced off when it is time to make the sandwich". Obviously I'm no gyro expert here -_- so, sorry guys. I think I was comparing to NYC's famous Halal cart's lamb..no comparison. -

Food was great, but I wouldn't put this into a top tier food establishment. The atmosphere is really in a take out / cafeteria style. I would definitely stop in here for lunch any time, or drop in for a take out dinner.

My sister took me to this hole-in-the-wall greek joint and I was excited because I LOVE greek food. Very intimate (and I mean close) and divey dining (and I mean could be fast-food). We ordered the plaka gyro combo (gyro, fries, soda: $15). It looked great and tasted decent, but within minutes, my stomach hurt and I felt nauseous. Maybe it had something to do with that greasy/oily smell that you get when you're at McD's. Who knows, but I don't think I want to try it again. I wish I checked in with yelp before I ordered and gotten the 10% special. My one piece of advice is don't dine in, take out.

Review from Laura L.
If there are gyros up in heaven, I would imagine it tastes something like the Plaka gyro combo from Plaka Grill.
I've been here numerous times and am never going to look at another gyro place the same way ever again. Plaka Grill has stepped up their gyro game by putting seasoned fries in the wrap. What's more is instead of having lamb (you can get lamb in a gyro though), you have the option of getting pork. It's a welcome change to the usual gamut of lamb gyros I've tried. The pork has a much milder taste and may actually be more pleasing to the palette for those that don't dig lamb. The tzaziki sauce is also not as offensive as others that I've tried. All of these components together make for a winning gyro that people with a range of palettes can enjoy.
I do have to give a big hand to Plaka for their customer service too. Yes, you'll probably see it crowded at times so if you're looking to nom during lunch hours, but don't fret! You can call in your orders ahead of time.
Upon my third visit to Plaka, I made a group order for a few coworkers. They were pretty quick in getting the order together and everything was correct (a couple of our orders requested no sauce, sauce on the side, no onions etc). I was doof and forgot the receipt at the restaurant (needed it for my expense reports, hooray corporate America) but the gentleman who helped, Andre, was kind enough to fax me a copy in minutes flat. Thanks Andre and the Plaka Grill crew! -

If you're serious about gyros, this is the place to be. I always get the standard Chicago Gyro. The only gyro I've had that was better than this was at Steve's Gyros in Cleveland: http://www.yelp.com/bi.... So for the NoVa area, you can't beat Plaka Grill

Read the reviews from Yelpers and tried it today. I ordered the Chicago and the Plaka Gyro. Now, lets rewind the clock back to my college years in Va Tech. There's a mom and pop Greek place that has the Best Gyro ever. Since then, during my travels, I always compare other places' Gyro. Plaka reminds me of that place except I only need to drive 10 mins to get there :)

What's the only advice you need when visiting Plaka Grill? Plaka Style it! What does that mean? Well my friends, imagine your favorite Greek meatiness wrapped up in a pita:
- Chicken or pork Souvlaki
- Gyro
- Loukaniko (Greek pork sausage)
- Bifteki (ground lamb and ground beef, spiced and grilled).
Now "Plaka Style" it and get your meat wrap stuffed with the thinnest and most perfectly cooked fries. Oh yes, Plaka Style it up for some mouth watering goodness. For the price ($6.50) you'll end up with a good sized and very tasty Greek wrap.
The inside of Plaka Grill is clean with small wooden tables and simple chairs. As you walk in, the right side has a large mural giving the appearance of a town in the heart of an old white walled town in Greece. You order your food at a counter, you'll be given a number and then they'll bring your food out to your table. There is no wait service, and its great if you want a no frills "give me my food quickly" lunch outing.
If you're in the area, give them a try as the food may not be the best representation of typical/authentic Greek food...but the food is good and will do a great job of appeasing the hunger Gods that reside in your belly.
Plus any wrap or sandwich that's stuffed with fries gets my vote and an extra 1/2 star.

I've lived in this area forever but never noticed this unassuming place between Papa Johns and a nail salon. As I entered, I told them I'd never been there before. I asked them what I should try and they told me to the Plaka Gyro.
I love deals so I decided to get a combo.
WARNING this is not a great deal. Gyro, Soda, and side of fries with tax came out to $11 something. WOW!
Gyro: It was good, but did not provide as much meat as other places (Ahem... Maggios... down the road). Pita was pillowy, warm, and soft. The meat (pork) was crispy and delish. The sauce was good but not as thick as I like it. It's literally a 10 napkin gyro. Geez why are gyros so messy. I did like how the tomatoes and onions were chopped into small pieces. The fries that make it a plaka gyro were a nice touch. It made the side of fries unnecessary.
Fries: Think a cross between shoestring and boardwalk fries. I love the taste of potato skin and garlic on these fries.
Overall, it was good, but I think it is too expensive. The food is good... don't get me wrong. I like their attention to detail. -

Wow! Finally, good food in Vienna that's worth writing about! The Chicago gyro is the best gyro meat I've had. Order it on the side of a Plaka salad & it won't disappoint. Their lemon orzo chicken soup is perfect on a cold day. Sometimes the orzo is overlooked, but the flavor is amazing. Bifteki, grilled ground lamb & beef, also amazing. I think we've tried everything on the menu & we're never disappointed. A true Greek gem in our own backyard!

Yelp enthusiasm brought me to Plaka Grill. I could not bear the thought that I had missed sampling a great lunch spot so close to home and was ready for a gyro. You were right, Yelpers! The food here is fresh and tasty, and the manager was friendly and eager to please.
I took a friend along and we agreed that this place is a find. Try the fries! The drawbacks are that the interior dining area and parking outside is pretty limited, but I hear the owners may soon be opening other locations.
I'll be back soon. -

As other reviewers have already noted, Plaka Grill is excellent. I typically order the chicken souvlaki with a side of french fries (although you an order it 'plaka style' with fries stuffed into the wrap) and it is nothing short of delicious. My only gripe is that the sandwich, while moderately priced, is too small for dinner. If your hungry and want something bigger, I recommend the souvlaki dinner plate, which comes with salad and rice or fries.
Overall, Plaka makes a great sandwich at a reasonable price. -
Review from Ryan M.
They were a 5, and are still amazing, but came down a star for nickel and diming and overall priciness. No Tzatziki came on the salad, so they charged $ 1.08 for a condiment size cup (tablespoon worth). Also you can get a combo with a wrap, but not with a salad? For a salad with gyro meat and fries it came out to $13.50, which seems pretty steep. Plaka please add some sauce and combo options for the salads!
