I have a family full of happy Kampers!

The grounds and facilities are kept up beautifully and the pool is crystal clear without a painful amount of chlorine. They loose one star for having tooo many shrubs that attract bees. I am not allergic or anything- but a kid with a bee sting is a mood killer.

I dont really like camping but the kids adore it, so KOAs are an excellent compromise. I can have some electricity and a shower etc.
This particular site is close to Gold Bug mining, where the kids (and dads) can pan for gold. They tour was short but very informative. We all learned something new :)
Close also is "Hang Town" or the old Placerville, and Apple Hill where there are orchards, where some growers have their own farmers market with fresh baked pies. SWEET!

Placerville KOA is a good spot for a quick getaway from the city life. They also have a well stocked convenience store if you forget anything or its hot enough for a snow cone.

We stayed here this weekend.  The customer service from the family that  owns this KOA is fabulous!  We had never been to a KOA before and our experience was great!  Thank you!

Sometimes we stay here when we're in the Sacramento area - it's a little longer to commute into the city but the motels (at least on the east side of Sacramento) tend to be either extra high-priced or very run-down or filled with noisy people.  The KOA on the other hand is peaceful.  It's in the pine trees - will get a bit of snow in the winter and be cooler in the summer.

There are a number of the Kamping Kabins there - up on a hill.  There's a big cook-house near them - bring your own pots and pans and food.

Located very near the freeway (though not unbearably near...), it's about a half-hour drive into Sacramento, less if you're just going to Rancho Cordova.  Of course, if you drive in or out during rush hour, expect to take longer.  In the other direction, the KOA is but a few miles from the old gold-mining town of Placerville.

I recently "camped" at the KOA in Placerville.  Or should I say "kamped"?  Er, no.  Anyway, it was not unlike staying at a Motel 6, only with tents and RVs.  Luckily, the area for the tents was away from the lot with the RVs, so your little tent doesn't get sandwiched between two big hulking vehicles, which was my fear.

As far as facilities go, it's very well maintained.  The grounds are well-kept, there's a playground for kids, mini-golf, a small pond, an on-site store.  The bathrooms are big and clean.  There's wi-fi available, though that's not exactly something I look for when camping.  It's conveniently located close to the highway...at night I was lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of traffic on nearby route 50.

There's a pool and hot tub, but they close pretty early so forget about any nighttime swimming or hot tubbing.  And don't think about hopping the fence -- in fact, don't even THINK about breaking any of their rules here, like sneaking extra people into your campsite or parking where you're not supposed to, because these guys watch you like HAWKS.  Not that our group of campers was doing any of these things, but the guy in charge drove by our campsite in his little ATV no fewer than three times just to make sure.  It was like, sheesh, go pick on the people in the RVs!  Oh wait, they're not causing any trouble -- they're in their RVs watching TV.  Ah, the great outdoors!

It's not bad, I guess I just like my camping to be a little more rustic and remote.  And spelled without a K.
