Without question the finest clam roll in the universe. Never be led astray...there is no better clam roll anywhere.
Nothing fancy, just a window where you place your order and picnic tables to eat it at. All the standard Cape Cod roadside fair, including burgers, dogs, fries, soft serve, lobster rolls, fish & chips, et al, and they're all good stuff...but it's all about the clam rolls here. I'll drive all the way down to the Cape just for one of 'em. So will you.
PJ's is an outer Cape classic. All the staples are there ... I enjoy the peel & eat shrimp, the fried shrimp, clams, scallops, ice cream etc.
The service seems to be mainly kids working their summers away from school -- they are usually really friendly and full of energy even though I'm sure they are working long long long hours.
Don't expect anything fancy, it is what it is. Come for a relaxing casual meal after a long day at the beach and you won't be disappointed.
Delicious, albeit, fatty fare. The specials are always creative and the burgers are cooked to perfection. I've never had a bad experience here, even with touristy children running amok out back by the picnic tables.
Excellent lunch - we ordered clams, burgers and mac and cheese. It came fast and was great and hit the spot. The menu also had great ice cream offerings but we decided to save that for next time. The dining room was impeccably clean - a pleasant surprise. We came during a lull of customers Sunday afternoon there was steady traffic at the outside windows. We'll be back!
So good! We ate here three times the week we were on vacation!
The first time we had a large order of fried shrimp and fries. Super tasty!!
The second time we each had 1 1/2lbs lobster dinners. It also came with a backed potato and an ear of corn. $25 for the whole shebang. THe lobster was PACKED with meat and delicious. Probably the best lobster I have ever had.
The third time I had lobster chowder and fried shrimp. Sensing a theme? ANd of course, it was delicious. I think I enjoy lobster more as a bisque - but thats just a personal preference.
PJs has both indoor and outdoor seating. They have an enormous seafood and grill menu as well as ice cream and other sweet treats. Your food is served promptly and there is always someone available to take your order.
Had a great time here. The interior decor is a little lacking and is a bit cold, but the food is quite good. If you're looking for casual fried food, PJ's is your place!
On another note, their lobster rolls are absolutely the best in the area and come with a heaping amount of lobster, a little bit of mayo, and nothing else (this is a god thing - it means more lobster).
To start on a positive note: The dipped ice cream cone ROCKED and definitely fit the bill on a hot day. Now for the gripes:
1. I ordered a green salad with grilled chicken. The salad was a tiny iceberg salad that looked like something from Mickey D's and they forgot the chicken (it was charged for, though!)
2. The lobster chowder/bisque was 99% butter. The flavor was okay for a bite or two but it was extremely overwhelming. Not what any soup should be like.
3. The clam chowder was very thin and not creamy enough. Weird.
The fried clams were pretty good but what's up with the fried shrimp? The batter was thin and completely falling off the shrimp. Gross, but it was almost okay by me since I was on Fried Food Overload. Ugh.
PJs is simply a classic! It has burgers, seafood, ice cream and more. It is very casual, a lot of people eat in their bathing suits outside. It is a lot of fun to eat there.
I love love love PJs for thier ice cream and hot dogs, but my seafood eating family members rave about the clam strip rolls and chowder. This place is wholesome Cape Codness!
FYI Dont go here if you plan on getting a "green salad with grilled chicken"!
Great lunch. The lobster chowder was outstanding (lots of chunks of lobster and great flavor) and two members of our party raved about the fried oysters. The kid with us liked the clam chowder but it looked surprisingly thin and milky (as opposed to thick and creamy). Super ice cream menu -- I wish we had hung around long enough to have some!
Growing up in Wellfleet this place will always bring back memories of Ice Cream cones, and hot dogs! As I got older though I learned ot appreciate lobster rolls, and Kale soup. One of the best family places in Wellfleet when on vacation or if you live there year round.
I still love PJ's for what it is: junky junk food. Still love to sit at the picnic tables in my wet sandy bathingsuit eating burgers, fries and a chocolate shake. It's junk like I never eat in real life.
i used to love P.J.'s when i was a kid. it was the 70's on the cape, and everything was hippied out, but occasionally i got to eat junk food here after the square-dances (i was about 5, so cut me some slack), and it was delicious! not anymore. i suspect the food is identical, but my tastes have changed (although i still like junk food burgers... it must just be that i'm more demanding of my crap). the soft serve with butterscotch dip remains fantastic on a hot summer day, but please don't eat the burgers and fries.
