Used to be a Father's. If you were a punk in Boston in the '80's, you probably saw me here.

Complete dump.  I've taken bigger and nicer looking shits than this place.  I'd let Magic Johnson give me HIV before I go back there.

I love dive bars. Therefore I love PJ Kilroy's.

It's not classy, it's not pretty, and it's not nice. But it's a great homey bar with cheap beer. Reminds me of a lot of small-town bars I've been to in the midwest.

PJ's is closed!   went by this weekend and it was all locked up.  from what I hear it's for good.   this is a dark day, PJ's has probably been the best bar around for years. if anyone has any good info about what happened, let me know!

***Update*** Alas, it has closed.

A true dive bar in close proximity to Fenway Park. This place is the answer to my prayers. Kilroy's, though it may get crowded, is always less crowded than every other place within 5 blocks of Fenway Park after games. The bar staff has always been friendly to me, if not the absolute most attentive (hey, ever hear about you get what you pay for?). One whiskey and coke from PJ's and you are SET. Very large, very strong, very delicious, and just what the doctor ordered.

It's true, as one reviewer whined, that it can take a long time for songs to come out of the jukebox, but that is because many other people have put songs in before you. Duh. That is the nature of jukeboxes and does not reflect on the establishment in any way whatsoever. Sheesh.  When the place isn't crowded, you can play songs to your little heart's content.

PJ's is cheap, unpretentious, and the folks are friendly. It is frat-like in that cheap-beer-and-drunk-boys way, but it's also a nice place to wind down on non-game nights, and the only place you have a chance of actually getting a reasonably priced drink on game nights.

I love PJ's.

A very frat-party feeling dive bar.  Not a lot of tables, not a lot of space.  There's a pool table (which seemed to be the center of entertainment), a juke box some arcade games, and maybe three or four tables.  Everyone seemed to know each other (except for my table) which was a little uncomfortable.

We ordered a pitcher, which was filled 95% of the way when the keg kicked.  The bartender gave us a free beer and told us to come back to her next time, and she'd give us what we were missing.  We ordered another pitcher, and ended up getting a pitcher and three-quarters.  NICE.

The jukebox sucks.  I put in a dollar, got to pick ONE song, and the song didn't even come in in the 45 minutes I was waiting around for it.  Time came for me to leave the bar and the song still hadn't come on.

If you're looking for a decent dive bar in the Fenway area, Kilroy's is it.  Cheap drinks, darts, and loud music - what else do you need?  The vibe is different depending on when you go.  Weeknights are pretty slow and laid back.  If you go on a weekend night, expect to be crammed in with a crowd of BU kids.  It's a good place to watch ball games, but I usually try to escape before the postgame Soxfan crowd shows up.

My kind of dive. It's huge, usually deserted (unless it's after a Sox Game) and has cheap drinks. Also, a great jukebox where you can listen to Slayer, Hank Williams, The Stooges and Van Halen. A pool table and darts that you have to sometimes wait for add to the dive feel. I'm always up for Kilroy's when in the area. It might just be the ultimate Dive Bar.

A lot of "used to's" here.  This place used to be my favorite dive bar.  It used to have the best jukebox in Boston.  Sorry, Geoff, but no more Slayer, Misfits, Iron Maiden, Stooges, Gang Green.  Most of what was good on the jukebox has been replaced with more mainstream crap and even some top 40 to get the ladies in there.  Used to be an awesome place to bro out with the guys.  The beer is still dirt cheap, especially the pitchers of Busch, and they still have pinball but not the fun place to drink and listen to good music it used to be.  I get more bummed out about the place every time I stop in there.

This is a huge dive bar, which is open later than anything else in the area, so you inevitably end up there if you hang out at other nearby establishments. The place is super cheap, though, and has attractions such as darts to while away the time.

Dive-y bar, not much for atmosphere, or quality of drinks, or accomodating staff.  Probably only still in business due to proximity to Fenway.

Great dive bar, if that is your thing. And it is my thing. I just moved from living across the street from kilroys.  The bathrooms are nasty, but the rest of the bar is great. Such a used and drunken feel to it. The bartenders are great, on a first name basis if you go in a few days in a row. If you go during the daytime and make conversation, youre pretty much gonna get some free drinks! Great before and after sox games, not overcrowded but just right. And great prices..2 dollar cheap drafts, 7 pitchers.
