One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Excellent pizza and really friendly delivery guy - pizza comes fast and warm with a yummy crispy crust! I had the turkey ham and pineapple - will be ordering more soon - really reasonable prices too. Stop ordering from Amicis and start ordering here!
UPDATE: The day after my review, the owner called me to thank me for the good review! Really? I was blown away - especially given me recent very bad interactions with Amici's who rudely told me they no longer deliver to my neighborhood. Oh OK - I was only trying to give you my business....
I've ordered from Pizzeria twice, and I look forward to going in person sometime soon!
Pizza: Super yummy! Fresh & warm (delivered)
Customer service: absolutely superb. They're SO POLITE & FRIENDLY on the phone.
Delivery time: Longer than most places, but worth it due to the quality & customer service.
Price: Somewhat high to me (but I just moved here from Arizona, so I'm not used to all the higher prices), but again, worth the quality & customer service.
Thanks for putting a smile on my face & making my tummy happy!
Show me a place with better pizza AND better service that will deliver.
I have not found it yet. Because it does not exist.
This is the Holy Grail of pizza.
Flawless customer experience.
Really, really good pizza.
The combination of these two things makes it a natural choice for a weekly ritual.
Even when I don't FEEL like pizza, I'll probably order from here anyway, because it's such a pleasure to deal with them. They totally get how to treat people. I want to support them so they succeed, because they really deserve to.
So glad I found this place!
a better friend would have taken me to a few pizza places in the city before taking me to little star and consequently ruining every slice of pizza that will ever enter my mouth. that aside pizzeria, is the second best pizza i have had in the city. but in honesty, that is second best out of about 5 places.
anyyywayyyy....i had the pesto and the veggie. both were delightful. the pesto could have use a little something else to help compliment the the house made pesto but it didn't hinder me from fully devouring the half.
the veggie was simply constructed with what were clearly fresh ingredients.
a bit on the pricey side, at least pricier than i anticipated paying. ended up being about 27 dollars for a single 16" meal. well worth the trip though if you haven't yet given em a run.
Maybe I ordered on an off night but the crust was chewy chewy chewy. It was work to eat. Not enough yeast?? They were nice but . . .
UPDATED and up-starred as the manager Juned emailed me offering a refund or a well done pie (that would be crispy) . I think that was the problem as when reheated some in the toaster oven the next day it was crispy and good.
Clearly they really care about their customers and the quality of their pie. I will try them again.
The homemade pasta pesto sauce is excellent - fresh and delicious and the pizzas are fired up in a brick oven.
Very friendly service. They go out of their way. And they deliver too. We once ordered orangina which wasn't on their menu anymore (they now carry San Pellegrino Aranciata) and the driver went out of his way to get the Orangina for us.
If you want really good and simple pasta, you've got to try SF Pizzeria.
All in all, great pasta & pizza & EXCELLENT service!
Ive known these lads since before they opened(just) They are serious about pizza.I am a transplanted new yorker and I know what kind of pizza i like,my girlfriend is from another pizza stronghold conneticut and she loves the pie from pizzeria as well.If you like a east coast style pizza this is the joint to hit, juned and majid and all the staff are a joy to deal with and go above and beyond to make sure you have a good expirience when ordering from pizzeria.very good pizza, very nice folks.
This place has excellent pizza and a wonderful selection of preordained selections. The gas fire stove adds a great flavor to the crust. The owners are exceptionally nice. The reason they only get 4 stars is that despite the high quality food and service, it still seems a little overpriced. But what the heck- its OK to splurge, even on pizza once in a while.
OK...I was gonna leave it alone, but I can't. I just can't. Chillies vary a lot in spiciness. You have to test them. Everyone who loves to make spicy food knows that. They are not consistent. No way, no how, nothin' doin. Weighing them is not a way to ensure consistency. It's just not. Taste testing is the only way. The end.

what can I say about pizzeria, except that it is nothing less then SPECTACULAR. The crust at other pizza places is horrible and generally the crust is my least favorite part of the pizza, but the crust of the pizza at pizzeria is soft and chewy yet not soggy. Superb Service. Helpful staff helped me decide what pizza to get, they recommended the Supreme and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD!!
If you want cheap pizza with cardboard crust and no excitement go to Little Caesars.
But If you want the REAL DEAL, More BANG for your BUCK go to Pizzeria.
WOW. I just had such a great customer service experience, I'm not sure I can even give an unbiased review of the food. There is no question about the five stars, however.
My fiancee was starving and we need to go grocery shopping. We live literally around the corner from Zante Pizza but we're kind of sick of it at the moment. We like Go Getters but the last two times we ordered delivery, we had to call to check what's going on after the driver hadn't showed up in DOUBLE the promised delivery time.
We decided to check out Pizzeria. We've been meaning to anyhow so what the heck. So, my fiancee places the call and is given a time of an hour to an hour fifteen. She kind of wavers. He offers forty five minutes. Now she is not playing hardball mind you, she just really gets to a point where she needs to eat something or she will feel physically ill. She decides to cancel the order and send me down to Zante.
The order taker puts the manager on the phone. He says if we're that hungry we can have the pizza in 30 minutes on his word. That was at 8:09pm. At 8:34, the door buzzer sounds. He is standing there with my pie and his first words are "I promised 8:39 so I brought it myself to make sure". The manager of the store brought our pizza to Bernal Heights so my hungry fiancee can eat. I was totally dumbfounded.
The pizza tasted great and we sure did wolf down that large, but we were so blown away by the outstanding customer service that it's hard to think about anything else related to our experience at the moment. I can tell you that they have earned a lot of future repeat business from this household. I'm thinking the next time will be in the quite near future.
Thanks to the manager and staff of this restaurant for leaving us smiling tonight.
These guys are kind of in a tough position. They're located in a pizza vortex directly between the insanely popular Delfina and the insanely good Little Star, but their kind of nondescript name notwithstanding, they definitely hold their own (fittingly, the thickness of their pizza is somewhere right between the cracker thin Delfina and the montsrous pies of Little Star).
I tend to rate a pizza based on their crust, because alot of places tend to treat crust like an afterthought. The crust here is delicious - it was browned to perfection, crispy, and tasty.
Naturally, however, the star of the show is the toppings and what not. My girlfriend and I shared the habanero pizza, which is basically a jalapeno-topped pizza with a tomato sauce that has habanero in it. It has a nice, very subtle kick that slow burns on your tongue and eventually gives you that really wonderful spicy tingling in your stomach. Awesome. If you're looking to breathe fire, you're still going to have to add red pepper flakes, but keep in mind that my girlfriend isn't just Thai, she's also a dominatrix queen, so her threshold for pain is different than most humanoids'. Additionally, habanero peppers have a tendency to overpower everything not just with their heat, but with their taste as well. Luckily here, you only notice the heat. Awesome.
We also got a Margherita Pizza which deserves recognition just for tasting the way it should. It's such a simple recipe - basil, tomatoes, cheese - that you'd think it would be hard to screw up. But plenty of places screw it up. Thankfully, Pizzeria isn't one of them. I realize complimenting a place for being competent isn't really a compliment at all, so let me sum up by saying Pizzeria is really good to potentially great pizza. Their spot has plenty of room to roam around/play hide-and-seek/plot world takeovers in, and their service is very good (they let us drink a six pack).
The salads were good, nothing spectacular (i mean they are fuckin' salads, what do you want), but I do want to repeat that the habanero pizza is exceptional. Give them a whirl, I think the city could use more no-nonsense pizza places here with a grasp of subtlety and a bit of creativity.
A good history to tell about this place.
After giving them 3 stars for the review that you can see below, I received a mail from the owner offering to solve my disappointment. Here you have a guy that cares about his business!
We ordered a different pizza, much better than the previous one (4 stars). The service was again excellent.

Past review:
I can't talk about the place, but the delivery was excellent, quick, and the pizza was ok. Not much more to ask for.
Keep on, guys!
First time I've ordered from them, and easily the most bizarre pizza-ordering experience I've had in a while.
I ordered a pizza around 7, and they said 30-40 minutes. I called back at 8 to ask where my pizza was, and the guy I talked to said that the driver left 20 minutes ago, and to check outside. I told him I hadn't gotten a call or had my doorbell rung, and he said that the driver didn't have a phone (!!). Thinking maybe he had rung the wrong buzzer, I took a look outside, but no pizza guy. I told this to the guy on the phone, and he said he'd look into it and hung up.
Standing outside was one of the contractors working on the place next door, so i asked him if he'd seen a pizza guy. He said he'd been there for 10-15 minutes and hadn't seen anyone. I told him what was going on, and said if a confused pizza guy comes by, he should point him to my door.
10 minutes later, the guy from the pizza place calls back, says the delivery guy should be there in 5 min, and gave me a different description for his car. I surmise from this that they made a new pizza and sent a different guy to deliver it.
10 minutes after that, my doorbell rings. Ah! The pizza has arrived. I head downstairs ready to pay, but instead of the pizza guy, it's the contractor I had talked to earlier, holding my pizza! He said the pizza guy had handed it off to him, and told him it was free. This is bizarre but plausible to me: the guy was in a hurry, and they comped me a pizza because it was so late.
I ate the pizza. Decent, not great.
A little after 9, I get a call, and it's the general manager of the place, calling to try to figure out who comped me a pizza. He asked me who had told me it was free, and I said no one had, and explained what had happened. He started trying to explain how I had done something wrong, by telling his delivery guy that the pizza was free. After I explained to him that I had never seen the delivery guy, he told me how I shouldn't have asked someone else to pick up my pizza. After I explained to him that I hadn't asked anyone to do anything except to look out for a lost pizza guy, he finally backed off and apologized.
I don't think I'll be ordering from them again.
2 stars because the pizza was decent, and at the end of the day, I got a free pizza.
Try them
1. Great pizza (used delivery - had the 16" Supreme)
2. Very friendly phone staff and delivery guy
3. Fast service
Yay!
Pizzeria is top-notch in terms of customer service and flavor. Mister B and I ordered the tikka masala pizza one night, and it was delivered to our door within 25 min (we are lazy, only 2 blocks away). The pizza was fresh, hot, and heavenly!
I walk by this place often on my way to BART and am sad to see it so empty----probably because of the no beer thing? I hope people give it a chance.
Mister B really wants to get some of his man-friends together and try the habanero pizza.
I am so sad that I didn't discover this place sooner, I found it while it was my last week in SF. We were throwing a going away party, 80s style - oh yes! My husband and I were looking for a pizza delivery place - but didn't want to order from North Beach Pizza. Thank god for Pizzeria, seriously. They delivered from the Mission all the way to the FiDi!
The staff is nice and courteous and the delivery guy was a total hoot - he was giving us a hard time for the way we were dressed for the 80s party, so personable!
The pizza itself, wow! Even the Vegan pizza we ordered was great. And pretty good deal too, 5 pizza for $95 with a phat-ass tip.
Yo Pizzeria, can you deliver some pies to me in DC?!
6 months after my first review, Pizzeria is still my favorite pizza delivery in town. The owner and his brother are the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and the pizza just keeps getting better.
Most recently, I've been stuck on the Popeye and of course, always the garlic bread with cheese.
The pesto also lives up to the hype -- in fact, I haven't gotten anything I didn't like from Pizzeria.
Thanks, guys!

After 3 1/2 years, I have finally found my favorite pizza delivery place in San Francisco, and it's… Read more »
For a neighborhood with the kind of reputation that the Mission has, it's a little disappointing how quickly most things have become predictable. Part of what drives my reviews is finding places that are interesting, and Pizzeria scores very high in that department. This place is genuinely quirky - not on purpose as a way to represent itself, but quite by chance.
I finally tried Pizzeria a week ago, after having walked by it almost every day since before it opened about 6 months ago. Unfortunately, its austere name (really? Pizzeria is all they thought they should call it?), the strong scent of its floor cleaner, and the fact that there is rarely anyone there makes it not the most inviting place on Valencia. If you stop to look at the menu, though, you will see that they offer some unique specialty pizzas at great prices. Step inside and you'll be treated attentively in a clean restaurant that I would say is very family oriented.
Now don't freak out, but there's no alcohol on the menu; it's a Halal pizza joint. Get over it. I was a little disappointed at first myself, but I just ordered a nice root beer and it was fine. It'll take you back. Plus, for you meat eaters, I hear that the all-beef pepperoni is great.
As for me, I tried the habanero & jalapeño as well as the margherita. Both were really good in very different ways. The margherita was what you would hope for plus big basil leaves. The habanero puts your mouth on fire, but in a surprisingly good way. There is also a tikka masala pizza that has me curious and a pesto pizza that I Iook forward to trying.
I am worried that Pizzeria is not doing so well and that's a shame because the pizza is very good. They offer free delivery so if you can't get beyond the somewhat generic ambiance and the lack of booze, take advantage and order in. You will not be disappointed by the food. If you appreciate quirks though, you should definitely venture inside. Make sure to use the restroom, too. A message awaits you there.
I always walk by this place and wonder why it's so empty, but the idea of chicken tikka masala pizza finally got the best of me, and so I grabbed some friends and we had dinner there.
I'll admit that I wasn't thrilled with the chicken tikka masala pizza (I suppose it came out differently than I had pictured it would be), but the pesto pizza was absolutely delicious. Throw some tomatoes on it and it's divine!
It was also a really nice dining experience - the waiter was friendly and attentive, the decor was nice, and the seats were really comfy. I'm definitely headed back there!
I ordered pizza from here and it was delicious.
Got a large supreme and I ate it by myself. Even for breakfast. Sooo good, but sooo bad. I probably weigh ten pounds more now, but my taste buds tell me it was worth it.
I'm surprised this place was so empty when I came. As my friend pointed out, it's probably too clean for the hipster mob headed towards Four Barrel...
The pizza was great and well priced. We shared an 11" marghertia between four of us (1-2 slices each), it definitely hit the spot!
...Talking bathrooms?!
Just opened a few months ago. We were initially intrigued by the thought of a Tikka Masala pizza. The first time we had it the sauce was a little too close to ordinary pizza sauce - not spicy enough and too tomato-ey. They changed the recipe not too long after that, so we tried it again - and wow! That's tikka masala on a pizza. We were big fans.
Not as much of a fan of the barbecue or more traditional pizzas. They're good, just not amazing, considering the number of fantastic pizza joints of every ilk in that area. However, I do really like the crust, the restaurant itself is quite pleasant to hang out in (and very pretty; I think the proprietors said they did all the interior work themselves), and the service has always been fantastic. As a bonus, they have yummy high-end root beer and ginger beer in bottles (the kind not made with HFCS), which go really well with the pizza.
Was looking for Italian food that delivered around 10 on a Saturday and up popped Pizzeria on the Yelp filter. All and all with pretty solid reviews I was glad I could find some decent food that delivered, well.....
I gotta say the best thing going for this place was the friendly guy who took my order, the even friendlier guy who delivered my order and the bottled Virgil's root beer.
I went with the Habanero pizza and the dough was very tough and chewy. I don't mind a little chewy pizza dough (think pizza Nostra), but this was a whole differently level of chewiness and I could only get through 2 pieces before I called it a night.
Hi there!
I have been passing this empty place for months.
The waiter was nice, the place is clean and large and the pizza is good.
People keep on stopping outside, looking at the menu, and moving on after contemplating going inside.
You guys have a lot of work to do.
FIrst of all the caesar salad was subpar. The dressing tasted unfresh and the croutons tasted like they were from the box.
The Greek Pizza was pretty good actually.
The prices are too high. We are in a recession. By all means, make this place CHEAP.
Work on the ambiance: Don't play the radio. You are playing songs that they played at roller rinks in the 80's. Make it cozy. Paint the ceiling black, Dim the lights, put up some pictures on the wall.
Maybe host some events there. Work with Yelp. Work with colleges. Cut some deals - get your name out there. You have steep competition.
Expand your menu a bit. Create some "specials".
If you don't take my suggestions, you are probably going to close.
The waiter was very nice. I felt like they didn't want us to leave as we were the only customers. Too much competition!
Just know that I don't write a review unless I'm truly impressed.
Pizzeria has impressed me not only with it's incredible pizza (I order the Pesto Pizza add sausage), but also with it's pasta (with just the right amount of heat, but they are kind enough to note this on their menu) and their hospitality has been excellent (I've had them deliver both times I've eaten).
Now, I could go on and on about how great the food is here, but the service is just as superb. Those who answer the phones for delivery are extremely kind, patient and can even tell you what you ordered the last time you had food delivered. The quote times for delivery have been spot on both occasions and the food has arrived very hot. This place has a lot going for it in such a competitive area for pizza vendors and I hope it continues to do well.
One side note: The delivery guy is very nice and actually took the time to chat with me for a while about his car; however, if you decide to pay in cash, I highly recommend having the exact amount you wish to pay (with tip) because he tends not to have the change needed...but regardless, a small price to pay for great pizza, pasta and service.
****Updated 1/20/09
The Manager just sent me a very nice message asking for input on how to make the pizza better. I thought the pizza was fine and I'm no pizza expert anyway but I do appreciate excellent customer service and that is enough IMO to earn them an extra star.
***
Decent Pizza and fast delivery. It's a little pricey but it's gormet.
The habenero and the tikka masala pizza are very good here. The pepperoni was just OK. the thing that isn't working is the vibe.
This place is always empty. I believe the following are large factors in that. The logo looks like clip art and has a generic name so it comes across as a generic pizza place. I would not have come here if not for a friends reccomendation because i have had enough generic pizza type places in my life.
The chairs and decor inside don't fit a pizza place and have too much space compared to the open walls. If this place would scrap their decor for benches, red and white checkered table cloths, and become a pizza parlor they may do alright as San Francisco is sadly lacking in pizza parlors.
Also do cheap pitcher Tuesday or something. Otherwise I am afraid this place will not last too long.
As far as delivery in the mission goes, they are the best, so it is a shame.
My boyfriend and I discovered this pizza place recently and it is a real gem. I think it is a good place if you don't want anything so grossly expensive, crowded and fancy/strange but you don't want your basic greasy pizza either. It has a good selection and a few different pizzas you can't find elsewhere. My favorite so far is the Chicken Tikka Masala pizza and the crust is absolutely delicious. It definitely has a nice kick to it --you do need gum or breath mints after all of those onions though! The portions are generous, the food is fresh, and the menu is just the right size.
The other big bonus is the customer service. They are really friendly and courteous and genuinely seem to care about their customers
The atmosphere was really nice and it was quiet so you could have a good conversation.
We have also ordered delivery and were just as pleased--the delivery guy was super friendly and the food came fast, hot and tasted just as good as it did when we ate at the restaurant.
How many Halal pizza places do you know of? Did you know that all-beef pepperoni is just as good as the pork version? Did you know that it's a horrible idea to eat a Habanero pizza?
All of these questions can be answered with a visit to Pizzeria. I assume we were waited on by one of the owners - super-friendly guy, gave us a couple freebies...But didn't take care to warn us away from the Habanero pizza - definitely the spiciest thing I've eaten in my life...
A serious rival to Little Star, but for thin crust pizza.
I almost walked right by this place. On the inside, it has a night club feel to it, with club chairs, a curved bar. It was nearly empty, which is sad, because some people may be missing out on some very good food. The service is very good, attentive, without being obtrusive, even though I was the only one in the restaurant that night. There were a couple of calls for delivery, but it was a quiet night, but it was still early.
I settled in with the Cesar Salad, and while good, I've had better. Then I had one of the better Pesto Pizzas I've ever had. I ordered it without tomato sauce, so I can taste more of the pesto. That was some seriously good pesto sauce. Something so simple as basil, Parmesan cheese, garlic, olive oil and pine nuts can go so wrong. I was happy to see it done right here. Even though it seemed to come out of a ketchup squirt bottle, I didn't care. I am very eager to try the Margherita next time.
A few other pies are available as is pasta. I am waiting to go back, but I need to go with somebody so I can taste a few different things.
They are closed on Monday, and I am happy to say that I won't need to go to Little Star down the street to satisfy my pizza craving, which is also closed on Monday. They also don't have a liquor license yet, but maybe soon. Since I was dining solo, it's a non issue really. But I wonder if I can bring in a bottle of wine?
I hope they get more business, as it would be a shame to lose it. They look like they put a lot effort into making a stylish place.
UPDATE: 9:40pm, same day review was posted: I am raising my rating by one star due to the incredible responsiveness of the GM of Pizzeria, Juned. We received a message via Yelp, along with a phone call from Juned within hours of my post, requesting additional feedback for improvement as well as asking us to give them one more try. My partner who is a veteran of the service industry and who took the call, was floored and very impressed with the quick response. I, too, am very appreciative that they took the time to read and respond to my review, as well as request more feedback, and for that, I am willing to give them another shot. A+ for customer service!!

ORIGINAL POST
We were looking for something different than our usual takeout from Serranos, so we tried Pizzeria based on the decent reviews on Yelp.
Unfortunately, we were not impressed with our large Veggie + Basil & Pepperoni with light cheese. It was not bad, but it was just VERY average. Nothing special. Maybe the pizzas with the special sauces like Tikka Masala or BBQ are different, but the basic one was just ok.
Pluses: 1) They delivered on time. 2) They fulfilled our request for light cheese, which a lot of places have a hard time doing.
Minuses: 1) Too much bland sauce. 2) Not enough flavor in general. Even the basil had no flavor. 3) Toppings were slightly overcooked.
My recommendation is to give Pizzeria a pass. It's certainly not horrible, but you can do much better.
I have to hand it to them. They've got some bravado moving into an area dominated by above average pizzerias. While not gourmet, and still no Little Star (I don't think there will ever be a comparable place in this city), Pizzeria manages to be tops in the greasy, thin crust category.
Pizza is best analyzed when sober, and in my clear-headed state, I concluded that the pesto was very good--dare I say, better than my usual go-to spot, Victor's. Inebriated, I'm sure the pizza would be mind-blowing.
The staff are actually polite and friendly, as opposed to the standoffish and aloof vibe I'm used to getting at the more casual, "pizza by the slice" joints. Delivery is for the lazy, and I still wish the delivery guy could've done his duty of delivering right to my doorstep rather than having me go out to retrieve it. A big negative is their lack of alcohol, but I suppose there are enough bars within a one block radius to partake in libations before and/or after a meal. After all, this is the Mission...
Pizzeria sent me a note to let me know that they'd changed the sauce recipe for their chicken tikka masala pizza and that I should come back and try the new version, so I did.
And they weren't kidding. It's still a red sauce, but you won't notice any tomato flavor; it's noticeably spicier (both in heat and flavor) than it used to be - much more like a spicy red curry sauce. Personally, I loved the enhanced heat and more intense Indian flavor; in my opinion it's a great improvement over the initial version. Now, it's clear that they're not trying to make slightly Indian-ish pizza; this is Indian food in pizza form.
The chicken is still tender and all high-quality white meat. The crust is still thin, with a nice crispy handle around the edge; not too light, not too dense. I'll definitely get this again.
And I still need to try their regular pie sauce.

The name may not be terribly inventive, but they're trying with the pizza.
When you first walk in,… Read more »
I feel bad for this place.. no one is ever in here! Granted the layout, choice of chairs/furniture, general decor isn't really that inviting... but seriously it's probably the best pizza that you can get delivered in the mission....
I'd be bummed if this place shut down....
Only in SF could this place be considered 4 stars. It's not bad, but it's not 4 stars either, IMHO.
The biggest pro is that they deliver and it was at our door in 40 minutes on a Saturday night (8pm).
Now, the food. You know those long crispy breadsticks some places have? The crust here tastes just like those. It's uncanny. I'm talking about the flavor, not the texture. Again, not bad, but not great.
We got the Popeye and I was surprised to see the garlic had been squeezed out of a tube. I have been told that they roast the garlic and then put it in squeeze bottles for ease (makes sense).
Everything else was fine, but I prob won't order from here again. I'd rather pick up from Goat Hill.
Sometimes a lengthy story is called for, and sometimes it's not. In this case, the story is simple.
There's no shortage of gourmet pizza in the neighborhood, and those places are great and packed.
On the other hand -- and I know we're all tired of hearing East Coast folks like me complain about what San Francisco lacks, but it's the truth so grin and bear it one more time -- there is no real pizza out here. Except Here.
The guys at Pizzeria are a little obsessed with pizza, with their pizza oven (brick), with the ratio of yeast to flour (or whatever), and with getting things right. That's exactly what you want if you're in the pizza diaspora. You want them to throw themselves fully into the process.
I live around the corner, so I'm just lucky. The best pizza in San Francisco (regular brick oven pizza), and maybe better than most of the places on Smith Street in Brooklyn, is within crawling distance for me. But if it wasn't, I'd hop on Muni or Bart or walk clear across the city to get there. It's brand new at this point, so I'm hoping they'll get noticed by the hood, but they won't need to do much marketing once people try the pizza. It speaks for itself, but it can't yelp for itself, so there you go. Yelped.
Another pizzeria in the Mission? Yep, and they call themselves... Wait for it... Pizzeria! And, the pizza is really quite good. Great, in fact! I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza, which could give Zante's Indian Pizza run for their money.
The thing about this place is you can tell they really care. The owners are super-friendly and they've really worked to created a place they can be proud of and pizza they are proud to serve.
I was skeptical of this place, as we watched for months as they built it out. I thought it was something corporate, because it just looked too pretty to be a family business. But, no. It is really just a couple of brothers who are actually offering something special.
The pizza was really worth 5 stars, and the service and ambiance would also earn that, but... they don't serve beer or wine because it's against their religion. Kindly, they let us bring in a bottle, but gave us plastic cups from which to drink it. The reason involved something about them not seeing the wine, but the cups were clear, so it didn't really make any sense to me.
Anyhow - minus one point because I really don't think it makes sense to have a nice sit-down pizza joint without wine and beer. I totally respect making a religious choice, but if you want to compete in a tight market with pizza on every corner, that might be something you want to consider.
I always feel bad for this place because it's always empty, so I assumed the food is no good. Then I ate there once. I'll say one thing -- they HAVE TO CHANGE THE MUSIC. Because the pizza is actually pretty tasty, and the staff is very nice (though maybe a bit out of practice because there aren't too many customers), and the owners is super nice. But the music -- it's like some muzak station, and it made the dining experience somewhat unbearable. With some nice jazz -- this place would be packed.
Yummy pizza that delivered only if you spent more than 30 bucks worth of stuff but the manager let it slide this time. The pizza was thin and the veggies were spread out evenly. They didn't take to long to get there but I was a little distracted so I could be wrong. All in all I would love to eat their pizza again.
