was fortunate to have eaten twice this week at Pizzeria Delfinas.  My favorite is still the Napoletana - olives, capers, anchovies and no cheese.  DELICIOUS.

Today I also tried the clam pizza.  It's good (fresh clams) but a far cry from the Pepe's in New Haven, which is the clam pizza from which I compare all others.  First Delfina's clam pizza is a red sauce pie and the clams come in big chunks.  It just lacked the clam punch and I think it could have been enhanced by some garlic.

I brought a fellow Pepes'/Sallys fan to Delfina's today, and his verdict was that Sally's/Pepe's edges Delfina out a bit, but thought the Delfina's ingredients seemed fresher.

A few weeks ago, Delfina & the Pizzeria had gotten their hands on a bunch of white truffles and created a few new menu items to celebrate. As a pizza lover, I ordered the Anniversario pizza which, as far as I can tell was their regular Panna pizza but with a couple of eggs & white truffle shavings added. As usual, I called to order a pie for take out since I didn't want to wait for a table/bar spot and the response was that the chef refused to allow that because it would ruin the flavor.  I had to use my "but I live next door" card and after a brief conversation with the chef, I got approved. Yay!

When I went to pick up the pie, the chef, Anthony, came out with a bowl of white truffles which had a sublime aroma (yes, he let me get a good sniff).  Everybody got a kick out of shaving the white truffles onto a take out pie.  After paying $53 to get it out the door (no, it's not cheap, but it's well worth it), I immediately rushed home and opened the box.  I had to stop eating more than a few times just to admire the aroma of the truffles.

I can say pretty unequivocally, this is the single best pizza I've ever tasted.  Yes, it's pricey, but, damn, it's good.  Why am I telling you all this today?  Well, it looks like the Anniversario pie is back this week.  I may have to go back for seconds.

OMG, the sauce on the pizza....sooo good.  I'm a pretty harsh critic when it comes to pizza.  I still prefer NY pizza but this comes very very close.

Paper thin with crispy edges...this pizza packs a flavorful punch!  I got the basic margarhita pizza and am excited to try the other interesting combinations.  It's a little on the small side (I proly could eat 3 pizzas on my own...hahahaha), but worth trekking here for.  The salad was aight.

The place is small and tightly packed...there's some outdoor seating too.  And I love that it has a bunch of bike parking thingamajiggies in front.  Can get crowded so proly better to come early.  Definitely recommend this place!

Creative, delicious, wood fired (?), italian style pizza. This is pretty much everything that I look for in a traditional style pie. A little pricy, but you get what you pay for and it's worth it here. The hostesses can be a little stiff (I don't care if she's standing right there on her cell phone, we need your whole party!!) but once you're seated they're great. I can't wait to try the regular restaurant.

I know my girl friend L doesn't want to admit it, but we totally ate tuna heart, shredded atop our salad when we came here for lunch last week. It was basically a yummier version of a Caesar salad (more lemony, less crouton-y), and apparently there was dried, shredded tuna heart atop. It was, frankly, my first time eating a "weird" part of an animal (e.g. heart, tongue, liver), but so long as I tried to forget what I was eating, it tasted delicious.

We also shared the Margherita pizza, and it was, not surprisingly, also delicious.

This was my first time here, and I'm glad I've finally been to one of the Delfina establishments. Next time, it's Delfina!

After living around the block from this place for over a year I finally decided to try it.  Thursday night and starving I head over to meet a friend.  We put our name on the list and grab a glass of wine.  I'm already seeing the appeal of this place but I have to admit it was lost on my 1 1/2 hours later when we are finally seated.  It's a place to be seen, typical Mission.  The reason I give it four stars is because the pizza was incredibly good but pricey, yummy thin breadsticks, and a fabulous waitress that actually apologized that it was such a long wait.  I'd go back again but only if I wasn't hungry or if I brought a snack for the wait.

Lesson to take away from last night's hour-long meal at Delfina Pizzeria: eat hot bubbling melted-mozzarella delicious pizza first, THEN have hour-long girl chat. Do not-- I repeat, do not leave pizza to grow cold!!

With that said, I like the simple, modern yet rustic Italian feel of this place, although as winter encroaches, it gets pretty cold even when you're tucked inside the restaurant bar AND sitting in front of the pizza ovens. Service was friendly and not too imposing. J and I were able to enjoy our meal and chat while getting a fun view of the pizza-making. We ordered a sausage pizza and a margherita and both were really good--- hot. We took our time eating them so by the last piece, the cheese was all cold and the dough a bit rubbery- but we braved it anyway. The wine selection seemed fairly good as well-- I'll be back!

How to do Pizzeria Delfina right (read: on a date):
1. Write your name on the blackboard
2. Go next door to Bi Rite Market and get 2 beers in brown bags
3. Drink your beers in Dolores Park (ideally at the top of the hill so you can see the amazing view)
4. Go back to Pizzeria Delfina; if you drink slow and they skipped you, they circle your name so check in with a waitress and you should get seated fairly quickly
5. Tell the waitress what kinds of wine you like and let her pick
6. Get the Arancini (basically fried balls of cheese)
7. Get the Tricolore Salad because it's worth it when such simple, quality ingredients come together so well
8. Get the Salsiccia pizza because that homemade sausage is to die for
9. Pay
10. Walk over to Bi Rite Creamery for dessert and stroll around the Mission (if it's warm enough/you're brave enough)

If this doesn't win his or her heart, you can blame me personally.

Maybe they knew it was my first time here but what a delightful experience. There was a decent sized saturday night line but somehow we got seated within 15 minutes. Also, the waitress brought us drinks while we waited on the bench outside so it didn't even feel like a wait.

We ordered the warm olives to start and spit two pizzas among three people. The olives were very tasty and got the taste buds firing though the salt got a little overwhelming and i couldn't wait for the pizza.

The pizza is thin and the crust has a beautiful crispiness on the outside with a soft, warm, buttery inside. The tomato sauce on the margherita pie was incredible and combined with the light, fluffy, crust that melted in your mouth it was simply amazing. The white broccoli rabe pizza was more flavorful and complex, and equally delicious. I would have a hard time deciding which was better.

Apparently the wait is usually an issue here but it's absolutely worth it.

Eating pizza here is the closest I've ever been to the pizza I had in Italy - great sausage, superb dough (not too thin or thick), light cheese and sauce, and big slightly burnt crust. Oh, and minus all the train strikes.

Super thin pizza with thick fluffy crust. I split an heirloom tomato salad, small meat plate, and a Sausage pizza. The pizza was excellent, I tried my friends magherita pizza which was just ok compared to the sausage pizza. The salad was really good and the tomatoes were as fresh as they get, with a light dressing and crushed olives on top!
The atmosphere is great because it is always packed so you feel you're at a good place to be at, which turned out to be true.

Yummers - just had a fun veteran's day off luncheon at the counter at Delfina and had the salsicca...yums. Pal had the special carbonara with guanciale, cream and an egg. All of it was DELISH. I don't have to say much more, there's zillions of reviews, but I just have to add my two cents and say that this place is worth the $$ and the wait! This is a designer pizza I can gladly pay for.

Yummy! I love their pizzas. My favorites are: Cherry Pie (seasonal)  and Napoletana (w/o anchovies). Favorite Antipasti: cauliflower with capers (also seasonal).

Only negative is the wait is always super long (and sometimes takeout is the best option). Also, I was disappointed with the service (one time) because the waitress forgot to put in our order and we waited for an hour before getting our food.

Meh indeed.

I've spent this week in San Francisco being shuttled around by someone who is not quite a foodie, because a label like that would be offensive, but someone who certainly enjoys food as an experience.

So when I was told we were getting pizza my ears perked up a bit. Finally, something simple that I know I'll enjoy. And apparently, this is pizza to rave about based upon the other reviews.

We ordered a glass of wine, some Italian wine that I was completely ignorant about, but it was good. Full bodied, yet dry. Lucked out at $5.25 a glass.

For the entre I ordered the prosciutto pie. My thought was that I like prosciutto, I like pizza, I like arugula, therefore, I'll like this pizza. But when it came out I was immediately disappointed. The entire construction of the pizza was off. It was simply the sum of its parts. Dough, sauce, cheese, prosciutto and greens.

A pizza is supposed to be a wedding of toppings, heat and culture which transcend their simple ingredients to become a meal that is shared amongst friends. Somehow, and I've never seen this done, the pizza just missed the mark.

Perhaps I just caught them on an undercooked day, but they just took the wind right out of my sails.

The time is nigh that San Francisco embrace its destiny to become known, along side NY and Chicago, as a pizza city. When the day comes (and it will be soon), Delfina has my endorsement to lay claim to the origins of what will no doubt become known the world over as SF-style pizza: the craft of rustic Italy melding like a bubbly slice of mozzarella with the progressive ingredients of the California coast.

The broccoli raab is utterly delicious, as are all the pies with shaved pecorino.

I've been on a mission to find real New York pizza since I moved to California eight years ago. Pizzeria Delfina is more Italian than New York, but it's still the best pizza I've had around here. (Italian and New York pizzas are different animals. They're both thin crust but Italian pizza is much thinner and crisper and NY crust is a bit chewier. Chicago pizza is like their bloated, overweight, weird cousin.)

I like the atmosphere. It's small and crowded yet still chic. The wait doesn't seem to be long. We sat at the bar, which was kind of cool because you can watch the very crowded kitchen staff prepare your meal. The bottles of water at each place are a practical and nice touch--I've spent too much time in my life waiting for water refills.

The tricolor salad was refreshingly lemony (if the tiniest bit oversalted). I love anything with arugula and fennel. We had the salsiccia pizza, made with their homemade sausage. It was good, although if I had ordered my own pizza, I would have gone with the pizza margherita, which is the real measure of quality. Pizza size was Italian--it was really too small to be shared. Prices aren't cheap, but the pizza is worth it. Service is fast, so it's kind of like having a real restaurant experience in half the amount of time which can be good for a weeknight--less desirable if you want to linger over dinner.

Finalllllllllly, I'm Pizzeria Delfina-ized...It's about damn time after living here for four years.  The opportunity came along this evening and I obviously couldn't pass it up, especially considering the Margherita Pizza, #21, is on the Big Eat SF list.

The margherita pizza I thought was just ok, definitely not my favorite out of the 3 we ordered...I'm a huge sucker for meatballs and ricotta cheese, so my favorite had to be the calzone, which was a special of the evening.  We also had the warm olives to start, a side of anchovies (sick, not my decision), and the salsiccia pizza, which had fennel sausage, bell peppers, red onions, and mozzarella cheese.   Two of us also split the butter bean soup and OMG, that was outstanding...Sooo oily, but I honestly don't think it would've been as good if it didn't have as much oil in it...Yummy in my belly.

Now onto the service.  We had to wait a whole hour and 1/2, partially due to the fact that our entire party didn't show up for an hour and partially because they were slammed, as usual.  Our driver didn't find parking for 45ish minutes and they don't seat you at Delfina until the entire party has arrived (I guess it makes sense).  We waited outside and was still served drinks by all the friendly servers.  One of the servers was extra nice and chatted it up with us, profusely apologized and even asked a table to move over one table, so she could accommodate us.  She even brought us a free appetizer of the sardines...They were pretty good, even though I haven't had a sardine in years!  I wish I knew her name!

I like Delfina pizzeria's thin, crispy, airy crusts.  Delicious!  I like that it's a block or so away from my house.  I like the San Francisco mural on painted on the wall.  It's also kind of fun to eat outside and people-watch.

It's not fun to wait for an hour and a half though.

Albacore Tuna Conserva Salad- The salad was decent, though I could have done without it.

Panna- YUMMY! My favorite pizza, actually it's the only pizza I ever get from here. It's a thin pizza with cream, tomato sauce, basil with thin slices of shaved parmesan on top.

Belfiore Ricotta Cannoli- I didn't like this at all. I thought that the flavor tasted off to me and it was so sweet that my tooth hurt.

One of my 2 favorite pizza joints in San Francisco, this place can get pretty crowded on the weekends but if you're not picky about where you sit you can usually get seated pretty quickly at the counter. If not Delores park is 2 blocks away, call ahead and enjoy your pie at the park.

been wanting to go here for a while and was happily surprised when my wife decided to take me here for my b-day!  we heard stories about the line and seen them whenever we had driven by so we decided to get there right around when they open.  this proved to be a very good idea as there was already a queue on their blackboard for seats.  fyi, this same strategy is needed at flour + water.  well either that or get there really late.

so we decided to go for 1 app and 2 pizzas so that we can try out a bit of everything and take home leftovers.  the app was a special on the menu whose name eludes me now but was a fried cheese dish.  it was very tasty but a lil oily.  for pizzas we got the margherita and 4 fromaggi.  i was torn between both in terms of which one i liked better but i give the slight edge to the margherita as the sauce was allowed to shine thru.  the 4 fromaggi had great flavor due to the cheeses but the sauce here is very very good.  we had leftovers from both pies and they both tasted very well the next day.

i'm liking this pizza movement that SF is undergoing right now and am looking forward to the other pizza joints on the horizon (i.e. pizza by farina i believe).  flour + water still hold as my favorite of the city so far since their crust had more flavor.  pizzeria delfina wins in the sauce department though.

On the rare occasion, such as this week, that I am craving pizza so bad that I'm dreaming of it, I envision it to be a Pizzeria Delfina pizza. I love the simplicity of the super thin crust & a few well thought out toppings.

Friday evening, about 5:45, right before the dinner crowd, the bf & I find a parking spot any driver would be envious of (ON the same block as Pizzeria Delfina *does cabbage patch*) & jot down our name on the blackboard. Ten minutes later, we are seated underneath the menu (written on a blackboard) & being bombarded with super loud Punk music & a menu with numerous mouthwatering items. Decisions, decisions...

I suggested a margherita & a prosciutto pie, to which the bf counter-suggested that we get ONE pizza, half & half. They don't do half & half, which was fine by me; I know I can throw down when it comes to a real good pizza. The margherita was not overloaded with sauce & the prosciutto pie was amazing-spicy arugula, salty prosciutto & creamy white sauce. The "spice plate" that accompanies their pizza (grated Parmesan, crushed pepper flakes & dried oregano) also impressed us, as everything was so fresh.

Total for two perfect pizzas that totally hit the spot: $34 (without tip.)

I'm impatient & would not wait an hour to eat this pizza, but will return on their off peak hours to try the fennel sausage pizza & cured meats antipasti.

Definitely a fan of this pizza, which in nature seems closest to pizza in Italy. Not quite the amount of cheese and toppings of a new york pie, but with the same crispness of crust. The wait can be horrible, the place is small, but on the plus side, you can swing over to bi-rite and get some great ice cream while you wait!

This is definitely a get to know your neighbor kind of restaurant.  In order to get to my seat we had to slide the table back from the wall several feet, and once I was in there I was stuck.  Despite the coziness, it's a very nice place, much in keeping with the yuppy Mission vibe.  The staff is very friendly and don't try to give off any pretense of working in a high-end eatery.  It may be a non-issue (or positive) for some, but they're into hip-hop and aren't afraid to blast it loud.

On to the pizza...It's a much more traditional margherita style with a very very thin supposedly crispy crust and a light amount of toppings.  Because it was just two of us we split a Salsiccia pizza and a calzone, which was their special that night.  The crust of the pizza was a little too flimsy, partially due to grease.  It lacked any sort of flavor, basically tasting like a piece of comunion bread (read stale and tasteless).  The toppings though were good, tasting very fresh and doing their best to cover up for the crust's shortcomings.  But since crust is a pivotal part of the pizza, I can't say the toppings make the pizza worth the long wait.  The calzone was good, but the crust lacked flavor as well and brought the whole dish down.  But at least the filling of tomato sauce, sausage, and cheese was good.

I wanted to like this place, and I wouldn't say this place was god awful, it just wasn't nearly as good as the line outside it suggested in the few times I've passed by it.  The fact that the pizza crust was so flavorless really left me dissatisfied because a good crust should be lightly flavored like a well-cooked pasta and not soggy.  Color me unimpressed.

#700...!

Ordered the Margherita pizza (Tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, basil) and a special of the day pizza (prosciutto, white sauce, arugula). They were both tasty although I liked the white sauce pizza  a lot more. This thin crust pizza is on the soft and chewy side. It surprises me how chewy the pizza is even though the crust is cardboard thin. Another surprise is how flavorful the dough is (or maybe just the olive oil). This pizza may not look like a lot at first but after two slices I was quite full (again with the olive oil).

This wouldn't be my first pick for a pizza joint yet I wouldn't mind coming back to try some of their other combinations.

There's something about this place.  The food is pretty incredible no matter what you get.  I don't think I have tried anything here that left me annoyed.  The only thing is that I get hungry one hour later because I doubt it's as filling as you think.

I wouldn't say Pizzeria Delfina is on top of my list because, well, I feel like the vibe I get in there is like L.A meets some little downtown pretentious street in Marin.  I guess it's a typical SF place that's a little overpriced, tastes satisfying in the moment and fresh but feels a little overrated.

Food:

Tiny pizzas served with blackened blisters on the crust.  I'm supposed to enjoy an extra serving of carbon?  The "house-cured lardo" smelled fishy and didn't really add anything to the pie.  It's not a good sign when the arugula is the most flavorful topping.  The parts of the crust that were not burnt into oblivion were nice, pleasantly chewy, if not a little on the soggy side once you ventured into the middle.

Service:

Yes, it's small.  Yes, there is a wait.  Yes, the servers run around, competing for space with customers, people that are waiting, and people that are hauling stuff in between Pizzeria Delfina and Delfina.  Our server was pleasant enough and ensured that we constantly had water.  My quarrel is that when it came time to pay the bill, my friend and I both had coupons from 18 Reasons ($5 off).  She wasn't sure if both could be applied to one bill, so I asked her if she could split the bill - which I assumed would mean she would charge me for what I ordered (a lardo pie), and charge my friend for what she ordered (some other pie and a glass of wine).  Instead, she split the bill evenly, which meant I subsidized my friend's beverage.  No, this is not the end of the world, but it didn't make much sense to me.  And my friend bought me a beer later to make up for it.  And at least we got to use the discount.

DISAPPOINTMENT.  After all the great things I"ve heard about this place, I wanted to love it, but NO.  Maybe all those great comments were about the mission location?

I used to work in a wood-oven pizzeria so I know my pizza.  The pizza crust here is OK, but this place is not a wood-oven pizza place.  No, the pizzas here are nothing special, but they certainly have priced their pizzas as if they were. They don't have a great selection (maybe 5 pizzas) and several of them are priced at $16-18 for a pizza barely big enough for one person.  NO, the pizzas here are certainly not big enough to split and for $18 that is pretty disappointing.

Pizza Margherita was fine (really how can you screw that up?) but the Broccoli Rabe pizza for $14.50 was truly DISGUSTING, it was bitter and the olives tasted as if they came out of a can.

OH and they don't even have beer on tap.  Bottled beers for $5.25!! HA, sofa king ridiculous!!! For the prices and attitude, you'd expect this place to serve a mean pizza.  NOPE.  SF is not well known for its pizza and the rave reviews about this place just show how hard it is to find good pizza here!

One of those places that makes it worth moving to San Francisco. Really.

So I went on this bike ride this morning with a couple of guys from Mission Cycling - http://missioncycling.org - the team with the who's who of Mission businesses as their sponsors. The entire way, with everybody tucked in to the slipstream, all I could see was the Pizzeria Delfina logo plastered on the posteriors of the paceline. That could only mean one thing.

And since an hour of staring at sweaty dude butt isn't about to make me start questioning my sexual orientation, that one thing must be pizza! Yes, indeed, Pizzeria Delfina was the order of the night.

If there's one thing that defines the experience here, it's long lines and no reservations. Which is totally okay. I mean, the wait was so long that we went out bar hopping after signing in, returning only to find my name in the doghouse of names that were called to no response. After a profuse apology, though, they still agreed to seat us. Eventually.

Not a moment too soon, either, because the seating that opened up for us was right in front of the oven: dinner theater! What a treat.

The service, the food, and the company were all top-notch, but I'm sure you can read about at least the first two in all the other reviews. Suffice to say: if you ever pass on an opportunity to eat here, you're totally missing out.

The trick with Pizzeria Delfina is getting a good seat.  Sometimes you score huge - inside, by the window, 2 seater, BAM.  Sometimes, you have to settle for sitting outside, which can occasionally feel like you're the new baby panda at the zoo, and everyone is staring at you as they walk by the incredibly crowded sidewalk commenting "ohhh look how CUTE that pizza is, so delicious!  Mommy, I want one!  Can I have one PLEASE?"

No, stop eye-eating my pizza you vultures.  Leave the hungry panda alone.

But no matter where you sit, you'll still have the opportunity to dine on some delicious pizza.  Whether it be the prosciutto (NOM) or the napoletana, you're in for great meal.

Just try not to drool on my pizza.

Pizza the way it should be made; fresh and YUMMY! The place is small but don't let that fool you. The service is great and the pizza is great. Leftovers are good for a quick breakfast too ;-)

If you like this place you will also LOVE Gialina Pizzeria in Glen Park.

Tried the margherita pizza in the mission location of this popular joint. The crust was slightly doughier than I imagined, but nice and chewy. The cheese was chunkier than pizzetta 211's pie and delfina's tomato sauce seemed more of an unadulterated sauce, less tart than pizzetta's.

Also had a nice insalata tricolore to wash down the pizza.

I was diggin the punk rock blastin all night.

3.5 stars.

2 pies for 3 people = the perfect amount.

The pizza margherita made 7x7's 100 Things to Eat Before You Die (http://www.7x7.com/con...) and I think it's really good, but I think the Salsiccia should replace it on the list. Mmmm, the fennel sausage is amaaaazing! I didn't let a single piece go to waste.

Thin firm pizza, not floppy.
Servers are all friendly, and this place gets pretty packed, especially after 8pm (on any night). Great lively atmosphere.

$40 total (including tax/tip) for two pies. Not bad at all.

No reservations, just a simple chalk on the blackboard system :)

Had take out pizza from here for a small dinner gathering tonight - we had three different pies and I was hooked!  considering that we didn't eat it on the spot or even super fresh, the pizza was good.  the crust was well made and cooked to perfection.  crispy in parts but the inner crust was still chewy in a very good way.

we ate the Napoletana, Broccoli Raab and Salsiccia.

three words:  housemade fennel sausage!  it makes the Salsiccia pizza.

i now have a plan to pick up more take out for a fall picnic in the park or just on the curb.  i'm pretty sure it would be good anywhere.

Mmmm... Pizzeria Delfina is definitely worth the wait. The original plan was to go to the SF Street Food Festival, but we went there specifically to try out Pizzeria Delfina.  The food festival was insanely crowded so we decided to leave and just go to the restaurant itself.

Once you get to Pizzeria Delfina, just put your name on the white board then walk outside and chit chat 'til you get called.  It took about a 30 min wait for us at about 3pm, and it was worth it.  The waiters and waitresses were all really nice.  Our waitress had these cute pink hipster glasses, adorable! She was great at describing all the different dishes to me. We ordered the Salsiccia pizza and the Lumachine (which I think is a special?) to share.  The Lumachine was basically their version of mac n' cheese sitting on top of a tomato sauce and it was fantastic!!! Great recommendation from the waitress! The pizza was just the perfect amount of texture, crunch, sauce, cheese, and toppings.  It was delightful! Definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had.  Along with all that, I had a glass of Grillo "Altavilla Della Corte" (white wine) which was the perfect pairing with my meal.

I have to come back... I'm glad the festival was crowded so that I would have the opportunity to come here. YUM!

I've had two quite memorable experiences at pizzeria delfina. One was long and lavish with wine, appetizers, pizza, and dessert. A sensual feast with my sexy companion, followed by good memories.

The second only needs one word: Carbonara. It was one of the specials of the day. Delicious pancetta, scallions, and egg pizza shared with my funny, foodie companions, who are always hungry. It defies the laws of nature, how much these boys can eat....it was the first stop of  our pizza hopping adventure.

Delicious!

The Panna pizza was delicious - the thin crust, the perfectly tomato-y not too sweet, not too sour, but very tasty tomato sauce, the oh so sharp parm, and the cream- amazing.

Stuffed Shells were fantastic as well. Who would have thought a little bit of lemon flavor and supper fluffy ricotta could make stuffed shells feel both like comfort food and light and airy! Amazing.

Ended with the cannoli - which says its ricotta but tasted a bit more like marscapone - crispy and loved the pistachios, but prefer the more traditional flavor to the lemon flavored filling - still yummmy!

Delicious dinner, will be back for more!

I am a pizza snob.

Years of eating Brooklyn made pizza has made  my pallet particularity specific and I've basically snubbed all pizza in San Francisco.  Sure, in a state of desperation (usually at 2Am, drunk and alone seeking the comfort of food) I'll hit Marcello's or Escape.  But still, nothing like a good old slice of Williamsburg Pizza.

My house mate has been raving about this place forEVER and a friend suggested it for lunch so I had to check it out.

The decor is pretty sweet.  It still feels like a pizzeria, but it clearly upscale.  The murals on the wall are well done and interesting to stare at while waiting for your meal.  We sat at the counter which is nice because you face the cooks station and can watch them do things like chop olives for 5 minutes (a lot of them) or sprinkle cheese.

We described our preferred notes for our wine order; smoky, oak, red.  The server suggested the Gragnano Frizzante as a cold red similar to Lambrusco.  Since it was a pretty muggy day I thought this might be good so we ordered a bottle.

Upon tasting we both thought it was OK but were not wow-ed.  We decided to continue with it anyhow, but when our server asked how we liked it my friend's face was a clear indicator that it wasn't what we really wanted.

I have to say that I fully appreciated our server identifying our disinterest in the wine.  We insisted that it was OK and didn't want to make an issue out of it and she stopped us and had someone come over to talk to us about the wine list.

We were then recommended a different wine, Terredora Di Paolo Aglianico, which we tasted and liked immediately.  This wine had a great oak taste with a vanilla finish that was perfect for pizza.

The Pecorino Toscano with fresh figs appetizer  was refreshing and a generous portion for two people to share.

We also split the Salsiccia (fennel sausage, tomato, bell peppers, onions, mozzarella).  Unlike other pizza's I've had in SF, the crust was perfect.  I've found a lot of dough here to cook up and still be too moist, but this was nice and crisp.

Now I know where to bring my NYC pizza snob friends when they come.  Great pizza and excellent service.  Well done.
