289 reviews for Pizza Port-Solana Beach Brewery
Review Highlights

It's 9:45 after the Final Pool dive. Hungry and tired, the five divers were in search of a good food place that was open to fulfill their carnal desire for beer and melted cheese on top of a saucer of carbohydrates and protein (Meat and crust you sick minded people).
They book it to Pizza port knowing the port closes at 10 and make it. With two pizzas and a pitcher of beer, the story ends with merriment and satiated scuba students.
As much as I LOVE this place... I want to give it a -1 star for closing at 10:00 pm during non-summer seasons... but +1 because the staff didnt' kick us out till almost 11.

Beer, Pizza, AND.... $1 Pulled pork sliders on Mondays.
Gotta update it with another 5-star review.… Read more »
Long time eater, first time to review.
I've been coming to Pizza Port for years, and the pizza, beer, and beer buddies have never disappointed. This place is generally packed with families and sports teams, but the long tables and benches you feel comfortable eating next to a complete stranger.
+ Great Custom Pizzas
+ Over 12 beers on tap and not just their own
- Usually over capacity
+ Beer Buddies
+ Volcano Hot Wing
- Parking can be difficult
BTW: Renew your domain! It expired on the 09/08/2010.
Whoever gives this place less than 4 stars is lame. Sure it gets crowded but that's 'cause the pizza is so awesome! Just order it to go, problem solved. They even told me I don't have to wait in line when I pick it up, just sneak up to the front, slide them your card and bam, you're out in less than a minute.
This is by far my favorite pizza anywhere in San Diego! Awesome quality, generous toppings, ALWAYS delicious! Can't get enough of the Monterey. Beer is great too, and you can even get that to go in a jug.

Love the place.
I went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed. Had to wait in line for a few minutes but I didn't mind. My friend and I ordered 2 small pizzas and 2 of their own-brewed draft beer. They had a wide variety of homemade draft. It was surprisingly good too. Definitely enjoyed the place. Minus points because seating was hard to find and hard to move around in the place, but seats open up by the time you get your pizza. Would definitely come here again
The family stumbled upon this place during one of our adventures this summer! While in the area, we decided to drive the coast... we stumbled upon this park with a live band. There were numerous families there and kids all around playing in the park! We walked called in the order and walked 2 blocks to pizza port and brought it back to the park to enjoy the rest of the free concert!
This place was packed! It looked like a real nice place to have pizza and beer with the buddies on any night! This place even brews their own beer!
As far as the pizza, there were many types of pizzas to choose from with their own funky names! Although its not my fave, the pizza was pleasing for the night, the kids and the hubby liked it... added onto the free concert, gorgeous view, and another family adventure... Pizza port
deserved 4 stars in my book!
I really wish I went here more. Sometimes we hit it up post surf or North County meeting.
Good grub and beer selection (assuming you like pizza). Nice enough staff. I've never had a hard time finding a seat for my little crew.
What's not to like? It's casual, so don't go in thinking you're going to be waited on.
Go for the grub and good times and you'll be golden.
Note: I've only been here for lunch, so that's what my review is based on. No idea on dinner or late night.
What a fun place for pizza & beer.
We had the BBQ chicken with pineapple, the cajun beer buddies and a salad. The pizza dough was the perfect thickness, and not too doughy. The toppings were generous - lots of chicken, pineapple, onion & cheese. The beer buddies were tasty little morsels... the salad was a salad. It was good, and overflowing with lettuce & fresh veggies but pretty basic.
I was too tired from the previous night's debauchery to enjoy their vast beer selection, but I plan to go back and enjoy one (or several) of the many brews on tap.
Good pizza + beer + several TVs with football games= perfect Sunday. I only wish this place was a little closer to home.

I love the Pizza Port in Carlsbad. I thought I loved Leaucadia Pizzeria, with their sugary dough, but that was only lust. I decided to try the much closer Pizza Port in Solana Beach.
Pizza Port in Carlsbad is bigger. There are two lines to order, one for food and one for drinks, Solana Beach only has one line. There are more benches and booths at the Carlsbad location.
We came on a weekday in the early evening and had the place almost to ourselves. We ordered a large Hawaiian (Lahaina) and beer buddies. No beer.
We grabbed a spot on the end of one of the wooden benches and waited for our food. There are cheese and pepper shakers scattered on every bench. I don't approve of this method because cheese needs to be refrigerated and it can't be refrigerated if it's sitting on your table.
Food was ready in about 10 minutes. The toppings were put on underneath the cheese and tasted like they were meant to be on the pizza and not just chilling on top waiting for something better to come along. The Lahaina pre-configured menu item comes with Canadian bacon, pineapple. onion, and bell peppers.
Beer buddies are bread sticks cut into one square inch (approx, each is a slightly different shape and size) and dusted with garlic herb. They're tasty but not crave-able and not as good as the menu description makes them out to be.
Throughout our meal more and more people started pouring in, and before we were halfway done the place was packed and the line to order food reached the door. The only problem I had with this was having to fight to refill my drink. There's no waiter service.
The pizza at Carlsbad is thin and cannot stand up on its own. If you were to hold the crust the pizza would just fall down and all the toppings would roll off. This is the pizza I was expecting, but instead I got a sturdy pizza that didn't taste as fresh.

I FREAKIN LOVEEEEE THIS PLACE! the only con is that it is super jammed..on a SUNDAY!We got carlsbad(chicken and feta cheese pizza with pesto sauce) which was alright. Some people think it's phenomenal but the feta is damn overwhelming and salty. The crust is delicious though. There are tons of selections of beers and pizza which I'll try next time. It's a self serve/seat restaurant and It's a whole bunch of picnic benches scattered to the point where we have to race to a table to sit down. Have a hawk's eye when you're there for sure. The ale is stronger than ever.
Aftewards we took a walk down to the fletcher cove which is only 2 blocks away and a very romantic cute walk might i say.

Pizza Port serves fantastic pizza, the sauce makes it... so flavorful! They are very generous with toppings.
Beer menu is great, they brew their own and they are friendly at the beer bar, letting you taste samples before you buy a pint or pitcher.
Totally reasonable pricing. Overall really great pizza for the money!
Not full service, it's "order and we call your name." Also full of children & teenagers - be patient and not expecting much in the way of atmosphere. Very casual & laid back. Cool outdoor patio area to sit and people watch and enjoy the weather.

Very, very good pizza!!!
Moderately priced, too! Must gooo there!!! Wish they are more tables....not enough seats.
Quick service.
AMAZING PIZZA
You order at a counter and try to find a place where you will sit...there is inside picnic like tables and outside patio seating. It's a popular place.....you will see sports teams, families, college kids, young adults here. The pizza is amazing - just don't think about the calories that are in it and you are good to go. The crust is thick there is tons of sauce and many options to choose from for special pizza. They make for awesome left overs too! They have awesome beer choices as well.
This place is uber popular with the locals, so I decided to check it out one evening with the boyfriend. We went inside, but discovered it to be quite crowded, so we ordered our pizza to go and walked down to the beach to enjoy it with the sunset.
The pizza was delicious, we got the bbq chicken. Way better than BJ's.
I would like to come back and try some of their microbrews, they sounded delicious and this place looked like a lot of fun! Very casual, laid back beach atmosphere, perfect!
3&1/2 stars. good prices, fun & tasty. VERY CROWDED
The best pizza in California. I am no fan of thin crust and I am no fan of Chicago style as I think it still resides in my large intestine.
Pizza Port is worth a drive from SD or SF or Seattle.
Beer is not bad either.
Came here last Wednesday for the Wings special 35cents each wing. Seating is arranged in long tables and benches so it's like a cafeteria I guess? Seemed like a really chill and kick back spot where you can just come with your friends and watch the game. Came here with 3 other friends and we ordered 28 wings and one medium barbeque chicken pizza. Started off with one wing and boy was it spicy! So if you come here for wings, you better have a strong tolerance for spicy food. So did not expect that! I think it killed my taste buds because when I started on my first slice of pizza, I couldn't really taste the bbq chicken. Even though the wings were super spicy, I couldn't stop eating them. It was good. And the pizza was good even through my fried tastebuds. Usually I dont eat crust, but I gobbled every single bit of that pizza! When we were done eating, we didn't feel like we were obligated to leave. People all around us were just watching the game. So it's a good place to chit chat with your friends and enjoy a good game. I will definitely come back!
I enjoy Pizza Port because it's as well rounded as its pizzas, but frankly, I don't think pizza is its strong point at all. It's just too bad that while I like their pizzas, and I would go back, I think their pizzas are overrated. I just prefer a thinner crust. Their pizza is rather standard. The naming convention is cute though - all local digs.
I think peeps confuse the ease of beer for the ease of pizza. Pizza does not inebriate you. Craft beers inebriate you. ZOMG! What's alcohol?
Further, who doesn't like picnics? Like scrambling at a park to find a spot, you cruise in looking for space at the parallel picnic tables. Excuse me, is this seat taken? Pizza Port is a giant picnic! That is, yeah, adults with beer around children. Overall, it's a great place to hang out once situated with pals over food and drink.
Though beer at Chuck E. Cheese is equally appealing. HA

This place pretty much sucks. I guess growing up in NJ/NYC made me a pizza snob, but come on. It's just not good. The seating sucks, the people behind the counter are not very nice at all (do you like getting ignored for a really long time?), and the pies are mediocre at best on a good night (I've given this place like 4 chances). Basically no flavor, gross crust, and crappy sauce. The place is filled with really annoying and loud bros; I guess some people like that but if you don't then stay away! If you have to get pizza here for some weird reason I highly suggest take out. Even though you will wait in line forever to pay while your pizza sits on the counter to achieve that nice "chill".

I took my boyfriend here for a lunch date here on Tuesday. We ordered the spicy baked chicken wings and a small Pizza Roma, which is like a supreme pizza. I expected the alcohol menu to just have beers but was delighted when I saw that they have Pear Cider! I had to try that too...
The cider ($4.75) was crisp, fresh, and sweet. Having a buzz while eating always makes things interesting...needless to say, I enjoyed my drink. Next, the chicken wings...they were tasty but very spicy. I'm not sure if I would spend another $9 to order them again though. And the grand finale, the PIZZA! It was piled high with toppings and covered with a layer of cheese...oh god it looked beautiful. The first bite of that hot pie was glorious...although I'm not sure if it's that different from other pizza places. I appreciate their generosity with the toppings and their thick, doughy crust.
This joint in Solana Beach is definitely a nice kick-back place to be. I will definitely come back to try more of their pizzas! Beware of coming on weekends though...this place gets packed and loud!

I'm very much on the opposite of the spectrum from the previous few reviews. I think the pizza is amazing. I would go here even if they didn't have the great selection of delicious beers. The pizza isn't insanely thick and doughy or insanely thin and cardboard like; it's just perfect. They don't cover the pizza in so much cheese that you can't taste anything else and they don't skimp on it either so it just tastes like dough. The pizza's aren't covered in grease like many. The toppings are always tasty. The pizza is never burnt or undercooked. I'm really not sure I've been to another pizza place that I think consistently makes such a great pizza.
On top of the pizza, there is the beer. PP is one of the few places you can go and get a great selection of microbrews for a decent price and not be forced to drink the usual generic, mass produced, tasteless stuff.
If you are a fan of good beer or pizza, this place is a must.

OMG I love this place.
Every year we head down to Del Mar on the Amtrak, sneak on alcohol and get $hit faced on the ride down. Only thing is you've got to toss anything you don't finish or else the cops will be waiting for you as you exit. Thank goodness for Pizza Port! That's usually or first stop after the train.
This place has some of the most awesome and unique pizzas that you will find in all of so cal but best of all, they have even better brews.
My favorite pizza of choice is their, Carlsbad Pizza. It has pesto, mesquite grilled chicken, sundried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, & feta. What an awesome combo.

Another one of those tough places to judge.
1. Pizza is glorious.
It's kinda borderline gourmet pizza because of the random, yet artful use of ingredients included in their pizzas, but it's still rustic and hearty without being too pretentious.
2. They have a really incredible array of beers on tap. I LOVE THE BEER.
3. They usually have something really interesting to watch on tv, usually sports highlights but you'll see some other good stuff too.
BUT...
The customer service SUCKS like no other.
We went in there pretty excited for a root beer float and a whole wheat crusted pizza.
The cashier informs us that they ran out of wheat. Ok, it's cool, not your fault.
Then we ask for the root beer floats....They were out of root beer floats.
But as she tells us that she rolls her eyes and says: "look if you want something sweet go across the street"
Uncalled for.
I don't care how good their pizza is, this place sucks.
It would have been forgivable had she not given us all the unnecessary 'tude because they ran out of two things we went in there to order.
This is also one of those places where you have to fight to the death in a loin cloth for a seat.
Waiting in line for 20 minutes for you beer is also not fun. But all those are negligible complaints after the crappy customer service that gets annoyed with you for ordering stuff that they are supposed to have but ran out of.

***2.5 Stars***
I'm gonna walk the PC Plank here and hang a less than flattering review on Pizza Port's mantle.
Why?
The name is Pizza Port. Thus Pizza is their gig. Which means, presumably that it's supposed to be good, no--- VERY GOOD, because as their main food gig, they must have perfected it by now.
What i realized is that, this place is what it is, whether peeps admit it or not, because:
1) Locals like to come here and hang and claim a true institution as their own.
2) It's a great single and mingle AND group meet and greet AND tourist trap pass-on thru all rolled into one. The communal picnic tables promote friendly interactions on all levels.
3) Large selection of beers/taps makes it true booze heaven.
Somehow all these dynamics (and various states of inebriation) seem to interplay and coexist, so much so that there's plenty of elbow room at them there picnic tables for families and boozers alike.
Still, i can't get over the overly puffy doughy crust and generally unremarkable sauce, cheese, and other (lack of) spices in their namesake Pizzas. I had heard so much hype about this joint, but the maiden voyage was, alas, completely underwhelming to the foodie portion of my brain.
But Eh, how upset could one get when grazing here? Hey, it's Solana Beach. Why WOULDN'T you be happy here. Solana rules, yo!
When i return next month for Toots and the Maytals at the glorious Belly Up Tavern, i plan to give the Port a pass.
DONE.

Pizza Port has been a favorite after surf eatery for my friends and I for years. The place gets really packed on the weekends so you might have to get really aggressive trying to find a seat just like finding a parking spot at Fashion Valley during the holiday shopping season. If you go early enough you can beat the crowd, get your tasty pizza, and pound some finely crafted Pizza Port beer.
The pizzas are good but not over-the-top good. The crust is on the doughy side similar to the home oven Digiorno pizza. Their toppings and sauce really make up for their average crust. The sauce is always flavorful and the topping are fresh. You can get all types of topping combinations with my favorite being the Monterey which is topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, & artichoke hearts. Also, their beer buddies is a good pairing with their beers....oh their beers.....
The beers here is fantastic. I seriously want their Wipeout IPA attached to my arm in an I.V. They go by the name of Port Brewing Company, which is a good idea since Pizza Port Beer sounds dorky. The brewers at Port Brewing Company regularly win brewing awards around the world. So lets all do the right thing and support our local businesses. San Diego is seriously becoming a player in the world beer market and Pizza Port is one of the names making it happen.

The best pizza I have ever had, hands down. The crust is awesome- fresh and slightly sweet. We have never had a bad experience here, and we have ordered many different kinds of pizzas and toppings. You really can't go wrong with whatever pizza you get! We decided to get an order of chicken wings one night (which seemed weird to get at a pizza joint), but they were good too!
A bonus is they carry really great microbrews- my favorite is the California Honey.
The only con to the place is the scramble for seating- it is community style seating, with long tables, so you just have to grab a spot when it becomes available. Sometimes you feel like you are stalking people waiting for them to leave so you can get their seat! I guess it's a good sign that it is always crowded.
Try it and you'll love it!
Who knew that a pizza joint could produce such QUALITY beer? If you're a fan of finely crafted pale ales, reds, porters, stouts, and even the lighter stuff, you should check this place out. Port Brewing is actually world renowned by beer enthusiats, and I can see why.
Oh yea, and their pizzas are pretty good too ;)
The place gets VERY packed every night so come early, and bring someone with you so that one of you can order food while the other fights for the next open table!
Beer battered wheat crust pizza! WOO-HOO!
Pizza Roma, and a fresh cold beer? AND people watching? Are you kidding me? Great cheap date.

As many have said, HANDS DOWN the best pizza in SD, or anywhere I've ever eaten a pizza. I consider myself a pizza connoisseur.
The place is what it is - a bunch of park benches, simple, do it yourself type of pizza joint. Get in line, wait like a hawk for a bench to open up, get a pitcher of Port beer, and eat!
Good, thick crust with plentiful cheese and toppings, and a nice seasoning blend on top makes the taste unlike any other.
A buddy and I go at least once a month after work and devour a large between us, in under 15 minutes. It's that good. At least 1-2 pitchers go down with it.
Also like others mention, the place is always packed, so go early, or go with time to spare, you will be there awhile. A trick we sometimes do is call when we are parking and order over the phone as a pickup, so it is almost ready by the time we find a table.
One of my favorite places in San Diego! So why only four stars? Well, this location is always packed, crowded and ridiculously hot inside unless your there at that magical period in between lunch and dinner when nobody eats and you should probably be at work doing something with your life instead of eating a whole pizza and drinking a half pitcher of beer. The pizza is some of the best pizza in SD and the beer is amazing. Oh, also docked a star because I hate the new patio arrangement, sure you probably can fit more people outside now, but I miss the picnic tables.

As post-soccer-game pizza for a 10 year-old I thought the food was amazing. But the wisdom and subsequent thirst for booze of my 20's has shown me the real reason to come is the beer. They have an assortment ranging from average to pretty awesome, all legit microbrew.
In reality the pizza is pretty standard, and the other bar food they have is only a bit above average too. I might choose a different spot specifically for beer and for pizza, but this place certainly works for both. Plus, it's a solana beach staple and a really fun place to go with a group. Everything on yelp has 4 stars, so here's another vague, curiously useful review and a thumbs up.

Pizza Port is awesome. A group of us checked this place out on a Saturday night. Now this is the place to be. Definitely a cool vibe and fellow partons were laid back. Which is a plus because it was picnic table style seating which was fun.
Between four people we ordered a garden salad, a personal size margherita pizza and two larges (a Carlsbad and Meet Extreme Meat). Nothing exciting about the garden salad, it was leafy greens, bell peppers, mushrooms, diced tomatoes and mushroom. My best friend had to have a salad. Her better half ordered the Meet Extreme Meat, now that pizza was no joke. It was definitely meaty and yummy. The hubby and I ordered the Carlsbad. Yummy Mediterean pizza. The pizza crust was perfect combination of chewy and light airy. Definitely one of the best local pizzarias in SD.

This is based on my one visit.
It wasnt as packed as every one said it would..the pizza was great! Kinda like Woodstocks pizza, but better..the salad was really good too. Although I didnt have beer that day cuz I was too hungover to even look at beer...but I do buy their beer in the nice 22oz. form at liquor stores, and it's one of my favorite brews.
They have an awesome picture of Eddie Vedder with Kelly Slater at the beach coming out of surfing..that alone is reason enough to love this place!
The seperate lanes for food and beer is kinda weird but it kinda makes sence..

More like Pizza Hut.
Yeah, I said it. The pizza here isn't very good. Salty, saucy, doughy crust. Nothing to write home about.
I'm sure people have had great times here with their friends, drinking beer and eating pizza. I get it. I'm just saying the pizza itself isn't very good.
Change of pace...
Come here for the loud atmosphere and another pizza place to eat after a fun time at the beach.
Watch all the sports games here since they have TVs all around.
Pizza is just okay, nothing much to boast about.
Too much sauce for my taste.
great pizza and beer here. The beer battered crust is especially good (I tried it on a friends pizza, as I didn't know about it for my own). They have a wide selection of beer, as well as various beer mixtures. My friends knew about some and ordered them, but I wasn't too knowledgeable on that.
The best thing here was the root beer float! They use their own root beer for this, and it was probably better than any other root beer float I've had.
If I had previously given them 5 stars, I would have changed it to 4 for this update...but I can't justify bumping it down to 3.
My only beef is that they are total paranoid nazi's about checking IDs. I mean, I understand that you want to abide by the law, and avoid getting fined, or worse, but COME ON. One time they checked my friends ID like 3 times, and then came over to our table to check it again, just in case...what the hell? And then a few weeks later, I went for a birthday party and the bartender was seriously mad because someone gave the birthday boy a beer mug, which he was using instead of the PP issued pint glass (so there was an extra glass on the table), but we all already went and bought beers and had our IDs checked.
It's too far when you make your customers severely annoyed, and even offended. Ridiculous.

Oh, my God! The beer selection here just blew me away.
And the pizza too! Wow. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this thick, fresh-topped, plum tomato-sauced pie. I loved the crust - I could taste olive oil in the bread. Problems, though, with the pizza included not enough sauce for my tastes and not enough cheese.
The reason for the lack of the fifth star, though, was the service. I was kinda bummed that the hot bartender didn't want to schmooze about beer. Pizza Port has AMAZING beers on tap, and it's obvious that the dude's proud of the beers brewed on premise (or at least by the company), but he didn't want to discuss ... and while that's not enough in my book to knock off a star, the whole service vibe was sorta snooty. A friend tried to justify this by explaining to me that the area home prices are expensive, but come on.
I'd totally go back, just not in anticipation of being treated like a princess.

Love the pizza, I usually get the San Francisco pizza. Love that they have their own beers, price is very reasonable, great for an after-the-beach meal, and fast service. Great location as well!

First time in the place and I can't fault most people visiting this place from the area. Some beer, some pizza, some mixed crowds and of course a party for one of our Yelpers.
It is way cut above Chuck E Cheese but the informality and the family atmosphere can be a little off putting for celebrants of a certain age. Sure you can buy beer by the pint or pitcher (at above average prices) if you are a 20 something hipster but beware drinking too much with your pizza because you will be in front, back, and next to kids more likely.
I tasted the pizza and it was good but I only tasted the pesto chicken, cranberry (sundried tomato?). I had a problem with the thick crust on the outside and the thin (super thin) crust on the middle. Most of the topping slides off if you are not careful. I don't often eat pizza toppings separate from the pizza itself.
Overall, family oriented, not cheap beer, games for kids and overall not for an older group having a party. We moved that to the Surf and Saddle. Props to the organizers of the party for JDisco - Melinda and Kristen and of course whoever bought the cake, it was delicious!!!
Might try it again sometime if my dog is allowed to be on the patio. By the way parking is not easy to find because of Highway 101 and the neighborhood.

The Garlic Veggie pizza here is bomb! I crave it all the time and I'm not even a vegetarian! I'm also a big fan of watery ranch dressing on my pizza, mix it with the delicious garlic taste and you have heaven in your mouth.
I'd say the only reason I'd rate it 4 instead of 5 stars is the seating. I usually have to stalk the people who look like their meal is mostly gone, but whatever its totally worth it!
