Definitely not the most crowded food stand and has a penchant for long waits when the oven queue is backed up.  As opposed to crazy fusion innovations, this place focuses on a freshly made comfort favorite: pizza!  Even if you feel New York or Chicago makes the best pizza and all California pizza is inferior, you can at least appreciate the magic of dough right out of the oven.  It's not blow your socks off amazing, but sure hits the spot when you're craving a made-to-order pie.

Market Pizza: I have to be honest, I was worried when I saw kale as a topping.  I was pleased that it was nothing like my bitter experiences with raw vegan kale, but similar to a heartier spinach or chard.  The sausage could have been more savory given all the great meat available inside and outside the Ferry Building.  The crust itself was great because it was fresh out of the oven.  The ricotta was nice, but too subtle.

PP is the SF bay area's 3rd mobile pizza vendor. Cooking time takes only a few minutes, similar to Pizza Hacker, and Copper Top Ovens. It's a thin crust pizza, slightly thicker than CTO, but thinner than PH. Prices are $8-12, personal size. Plus $2 to add a fresh farm egg or Zoe's bacon (I have not tried those additions yet).

On the menu: Marguerita, Pepperoni, and a Market Special.
Good tasting pizza but in my opinion, Tony's currently has the best Marguerita pizza.

You can find them on thursdays, at the Ferry street food farmers market. Also according to their posted info, you can find them at this locations:

Mondays - Bloodhound bar at 5pm - (alternating with Tacolicious)
Thursdays - Homestead bar (5:30-9:30pm)
Fridays - Lagunitas' beer garden (5-9pm) in Petaluma

Fresh Pizza Dough Getting Ready for the Wood-Burning Brick Oven on Wheels

A Few Slices of Wood-Oven Baked Pizza Pie

This pizza from Pizza Politana, cooked on location in a wood-burning brick oven on a trailer, tasted absolutely sensational.  The dough had such an old school flavor and the toppings, which featured eggplant, dry-cured olives, feta, and parsley, were fresh and delicious.  I only ate one slice because there was so much food to sample, but man, it was good!

Things in front of the beautiful Ferry Building in:

1989: Freeway
2009: Portable wood-fired pizza oven

I like this year's model so, so much better. Heated to 800 degrees, the oven is dishing out pies in less than 5 mins. My basis margarita was $8, which felt reasonable for what sized right in between a small and medium. Since they are all made fresh, it was no problem getting half with no cheese and the other half light. Each half was delicious.

Holding back the fifth star for the $2 spinach charge. Considering all the cheese I was saving them I was hoping it'd be a free substitute, but that was not the case. Still an excellent pie.

unbelievable, a portable wood-fire pizza oven that makes tasty neapolitan margherita pizzas?!?

if i didn't see and experience it myself, i woulda never thought it could be true.

these quick pizzas are perfect to share as a snack while you wait in line for a roli-roti porchetta sandwich to really fill you up.

Pizza Politana is part of the Thursday Ferry Building Street Food line up.  The pizzas look great and I love their portable brick oven.  The crust was good.

I got the "market" pizza of the day which had chard, parmesan, olives and peppers.  Some how it just didn't mesh together properly, and I couldn't love it despite it's beauty.  Also, for $12 a pop, I don't expect to feel hungry 2 hours after lunch.

I'll be skipping this.

I adore Pizza Politana.  I go to the Farmer's Market every Thursday at the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Marin.  I particularly look forward to this Market, because Pizza Politana is there.  I have a Pizza Margarita with an egg very week for breakfast.  I have been enjoying this pizza for over a year now and still look forward to it.  This says a lot about the quality of Pizza Politana's pizzas.  Joel Baecker is a master pizza chef and I highly recommend his pizzas.  Don't miss out!
