This place has been a staple of the Ditmars, Astoria area forever. How old is this place?
This pizzeria is so old, they knew Burger King while he was still a prince.
This pizzeria is so old, they used dinosaurs to help with the deliveries.
This pizzeria is so old, they have Adam & Eve's autographs.
This pizzeria is so old, they catered the Last Supper.
This pizzeria is so old...okay, enough with the bad jokes.
This pizzeria holds many childhood memories for me. I remember playing the arcade racing game Pole Position. Either that or Rally X. It was only a quarter. That shows how the place is, and how old I am.
Regardless, the food was, and still is consistently good. if you're not into pizza, the menu still has plenty of other variety. Just goes to show you, just because it's old doesn't mean it's stale. -

We were told to go here for great pizza. Not only did the owner accommodate our requests for mushrooms but he also gave the 3 of us "tourists" free rice balls! He was so proud of his food and when we asked about the interesting "squares", we got a very interesting pizza history lesson. The place has ample counter seating and it is very clean. Really recon mend this wonderful pizzeria

Casual pizza place with a fun atmosphere. On a weekend night, the music was loud and they were playing the best of Micheal Jackson. Ahhh, memories!
I had a thick crust, square shape pizza (totally forgot the name) and it was a pretty hefty serving. Be prepared to wallow in regret from all the carbs in that bad boy.
Totally awesome pizza place in Astoria! -
Review from Luis R.
Great pizza. Great service. That's what's up.
Sorry for using that phrase.
My girlfriend and I were recently in NYC for a trip, and we were taken to this pizza joint to get some good ol' New York Pizza.
Off the bat the service was excellent. The guys behind the counter made you feel like you were part of the neighborhood. Very friendly and approachable, and quick to assist you with anything you needed...food wise.
I ordered two slices of regular pizza with sausage, and she ordered a slice of Sicilian with pepperoni. The pizza was great, and I'm surprised I finished both slices.
It was moderately late, but plenty of patrons were in and out getting their slices of pizza. Not to mention, they were playing nothing but Michael Jackson hits and you can't beat that.
A great pizza place that I think I'd hit up again if I ever revisit NYC. -

I 've been to this spot 3x and the pizza is good....They have an array of foods to eat very nice and spacey. They even have whole wheat pizza which I have yet to try...
A good place if you want pizza. -

More like 3.5 stars.
I think the gyros are pretty good here. They come in a massive portion (makes 2 meals for me) with a Greek salad (eh. I don't like Greek salad in general, though) and steak fries. A couple times, the gyros have been a bit too salty, but I still think they're good overall. I can't speak for any of the other menu items, as I've only come for gyros. Service is very good also. I like them! -

It's in the heart of 31st in Astoria. Get's lively here in the summer w/the festivals and DJ spitting out reggae and then some "neat' oldies for the eldery to shake their booties to.
Good solid pizza. Not the best, but the place serves a variety of things. Pizza (including whole wheat), pasta, beef patties, hot dogs, fries, rolls, and heros. -

Astoria, NY
This place is a joke. Ordered a rice ball. It was pretty descent size but there was no meat in it, and they heated it up in the microwave. In essence they served me microwaved rice. A lot of their food seem priced a little high for a fast food pizza joint. Never coming here again.

Astoria, NY
The pizza is pretty good. I like the fact that they have the whole wheat pizza dough as an option. I honestly find the whole wheat pizza to be more tasty than the regular pizza. I have not tried any of their dishes but they always look tempting to try. Too bad I am not a huge pasta fan.
This rating is based on the pizza. -

I have tried almost every burger place within the Ditmars area, and I think this might be the best! It is a pizza place, but I always come here for a quick cheeseburger when I have that craving - once every few months, and need a burger fix. They are always fast, efficient, and the toppings (lettuce/tomato) are always fresh. That's not a lot to ask, right? You'd be surprised. It's a pizza place, but strangely enough, I always get the burgers here. And they just seem like nice guys that work behind the counter, these 2 or 3 Spanish speaking dudes, so nice people always get bonus points.

I feel bad giving Pizza Palace only 2 stars because it's been standing since I was young enough to be dropping quarters into the merry-go-round that they had (do they still have that?)
But, to be brutally honest, the pizza is okay at best.
The gyros are great though; I have never had gyro meat anywhere else that has come close to that of Pizza Palace. THAT I miss. For pizza, I would rather go to Alba's or Sac's. -
Review from Irene F.
Pizza Palace was where middle school (junior high? I don't know) happened. Between slices of pizza and garlic knots, friendships were made and broken, hearts made and broken, homework plagiarized (I mean via tutoring, of course), and everything else that is so dramatic in a seventh grader's life can unfold.
I have no idea what the pizza tastes like these days, nor the garlic knots, but I am impressed it is still standing! -

Shame on this place for calling what they serve to the public "Pizza".
Every piece of food here is outrageously disgusting.. If it were not on a busy corner no one would EVER go in there.
Please don't eat there.Listed in: Don't waste your time!!

Being a native New Yorker, I know a few things about a slice of pizza*
The pizza at "Pizza Palace" is pretty solid, but still missing this glutton factor which should really be present**.
My buddy Liz and I were having a wine and pizza sleep over, so we ordered pick up from PP, we gorged on a regular pie with whole wheat crust*** and potato wedges.
It was tasty, but set me back about $17 which is a lot during this economic turmoil!
It's got a cutesy '50 diner vibe, which is kinda awkward considering it's an italian pizzeria, and well the "vibe" is only because they are always tuned into music from the yesterdecades and not really because of its decor
Would I go again? Yea of course, the staff is nice and their pizza ain't breakin' any culinary crimes.
____________
*And Bagels, duh
**I honestly think Artichokes has ruined me for other pizza joints, I mean they can't really hold a candle to Artichoke
***Liz likes eating healthy, and sometimes I do to; but most times I like regular flour and I'll worry about my digestion later! -

My favorite pizza place in NY! Its cheap, its good, and the workers seriously feel like family, always friendly. Maybe I'm partial because I live just down the street but many times my guests request a re-return.
I love that they have whole wheat slices that honestly don't taste much different then the regular kind. Plus they give you a giant slice! I recommend getting a side of sauce to dip the pizza in as its always a treat.
They also make a pretty solid burger and their steak fries are just as steak fries should be. In fact they were the first place in NY that I could find steak fries when I moved here!
Watch out though....they will make your mom cry, not once but twice because they are so nice, for real.
Well unless thats just my mom...Listed in: Astoria- Down the Street-…

The king of queens does not reside at the pizza palace. Greasy? Sure. Good? Maybe if you've been drinking. In California, this pizza place would be passed off as authentic NY pizza. In New York, this passes as crap. Not for any particular reason, just it's natural. I'll explain.
The moment before anything exciting, let's say you're walking down the side walk and a dog that you did not see jumps up and barks at you. The instant that dog jumps on the fence, and barks, your heart jumps, adrenaline starts pumping.
This pizza is the exact opposite. When I put it in my mouth, I feel my stomach tremble, wanting to quickly digest and rid itself of this poor attempt at pizza making. -

Long Island City, NY
Cheap eats, from pizza to burgers to gyros, in a pseudo 50s diner feel.
Pizza by the slice ($2.75) has sweet tomato sauce and a cheese that tastes distinctively mediocre. Gyros are average, reliable. Service is fast and no-nonsense.
Italian Stromboli ($6.95) was a mistake to order, as the limp pepperoni and sliced sausage was accompanied by equally uncrisp donner kebab meat (!), gooey onions, and wilted shards of green pepper. Long menu of Italian-American and Greek-American standards. Would eat here more often if open super late. Hours not on menu. My guess is close at 10 p.m. -

An expensive taste of home
I absolutely love this place just for it's plain slices. I cannot walk by and smell it and not get one. I have to admit that over the years, this place has gotten rediculously expensive and it ruins the experience. Because of that. I wouldnt buy anything else here but the plain slice, chicken roll (which is just mediocre and pricey) or a souvlaki platter. I love the fact that they still have the same little carousel that I used to ride on when I was a little girl. I smile everytime I see it. But, I have to admit that when they took out the arcade and the big back area years ago, that changed it all for me. I miss going there with a pocket full of quarters and playing the simpsons game for a long time. -

This might have been the worst pizza I've ever had. Greasy, dingy, left a gross oniony aftertaste for hours. Speaking of onions, they put them into their spinach. WTF? That's the kind of thing you really need to warn customers about.
And the thing is, this is right on the corner of Ditmars and 31st, meaning you have at least three excellent pizza places within a block (Rose and Joe's, Rosario's, I haven't tried L'incontro's pizza but I assume it's good.) There is no reason for anyone to ever go here unless, like me, you're a transplant who hasn't found actual pizza in the area. -

Had a huge gyro on whole wheat pita yesterday, filled with the works. They guys there make them good and stuffed. Take the fork just in case, not everyone has my big hands to vice-grip it while eating....
I get the whole wheat pizza and it is good too. Those stating they have to try it will like it. It is not a hard taste adjustment. -

Thus far, this is my favorite spot for pizza in Astoria. By the slice or a whole pie, and you can even get whole grain dough if you're health conscious. And the garlic knots are nom. But wtf is a "grandpa pizza?"

Review from Jando S.
Pizza Palace looks like a high school scene in a movie where the kids hang out and eat pizza together, while discussing the drama that is happening in their adolescent lives. The pizza tastes like it could use some maturing as well, as it lacks in flavor and is not as large as it could be especially with such a price. The service is nice, but sometimes a bit pushy, possibly because they're used to the attitudes the youngins bring to the joint.
Aside from pizza, they happen to feature some Greek specialties as well (gyro, etc.) as well as burgers. Although it isn't intentional comedy, Pizza Palace is situated right next to the luxurious Trattoria L'incontro, thus highlighting the low to high end spectrum of Italian fare along Ditmars all in one block. -

Location location location. Not the best pizza you will ever have by any stretch, but conveniently located off the subway. Quick service and plenty of seating. Wide variety.

Astoria, NY
Have to agree with Alex S. on this one. This place is mediocre at best. I ordered a gyro platter and it cost $12. Although they did give plenty of meat, the meat was quite salty. I had better gyro almost anywhere. The price isn't quite Astoria prices either, just cuz most folks that live in Astoria commutes to Manhattan to work doesn't mean we want to see the prices commute with us back to Astoria.
One other weird thing, when I was there, all I saw was old folks. You can almost mistaken this place for a retirement home's cafeteria if you didn't know its a restaurant. Hmm... -

The menu is huge so anyone can find something that they'll enjoy. But it's pretty much fast food in my opinion. Not a huge fan.

The pizza is good and the slices are huge. Once of the best pies we've had in Astoria in a while. We liked it so much, we've had their pizza 2 weeks in a row.
Their other Italian food isn't great, so just stick with the pie. Never had the gyro. -

Long Island City, NY
A long standing pizza place in Astoria, Pizza Palace still has very large sized slices that are yummy. The sauce is great (and always has been) and the crust is ALWAYS just right, never over or under done.
I always enjoy two slices. LOVE the Sicilian, too.
Nice, neighborhood feel to it. Service is fast and polite.
Just avoid it between the hours of 2 and 4 PM during school days or you will get stuck with a bunch of noisy animals...I mean kids, that just got out of school and were raised by wolves. -
Review from Jen S.
Astoria, NY
I've only had the pizza, and it's not amazing: limp thin-slice with forgettable cheese/sauce. It's fine when you have a basic craving, but not terribly satisfying. It's a shame, cause this place has a great location and is pretty huge - they could do great with a new recipe. I can't remember the exact price per slice, but it's a bit more than you'd expect for mediocre pizza.

Astoria, NY
I really want to like this place because it is on the corner of my block, and while the pizza sometimes LOOKS good, it isn't. Everything is ridiculously over priced, and none of it is nearly worth it. Their "entrees" sit in metal sternos all day, NOTHING is made fresh to order. They MICROWAVE everything you order (aside from pizza). So, if you go in to get a dry disgusting chicken roll for 8 dollars with no sauce on the side, they will first microwave it, then put it in the oven to make it kind of crispy. This results in a mushy, way too hot roll that has cheese so melted it isn't even recognizable. Don't go here, it's worth the 6 block walk to Albas.

The pizza is decent, but paying Manhattan prices for a Queens slice... these people are out of their minds. There is better and cheaper pizza to be had in Astoria.

Astoria, NY
This place has some awful pizza. And considering they're called Pizza Palace, you would expect they'd be the grand sultans of making pizza. I've been here on more than one occasion, with different people, who all know how to eat pizza, and watched them pick up a slice and have all the toppings/cheese slide RIGHT OFF in one giant greasy mass onto the plate. That might be forgivable if the pizza tasted great but it tastes like ass. Bland, mediocre, pizza ass. The garlic knots and fries are ok but nothing to write home about. Pizza Palace was only relevant when the space was bigger and they had all the arcade games/seating in the back and I was in the 7th grade and our classes would go there after a school trip. But even then I don't remember the pizza making much of an impression on my memories - just that Simpsons game and the candy crane.

Astoria, NY
Very fast delivery. The pizza is the biggest in New York City and is really great...... as long as you eat it right away.... like RIGHT AWAY. They only have canned sodas and drinks for delivery which is no good in my book. Overall they're a good option in a pinch but nothing to write home about.
