Big New York Pizza fan and as many stated in various parts of Yelp...it's very hard to find anything out here that comes close.
I read somewhere where they said this place WAS new York pizza.
but sadly I will have to say it's not so much, very close in similar ways but if your from New York or know your New York pizza and expect to taste that same flavor and texture...you might be a little let down.....1 thing I really enjoy about pizza when in New York is the "crispy & chewy" pizza crust.
Pizza Next Door comes close but it's missing that NY crispy.

We ordered pizza to be delivered from here. It was their veggie pizza and the crust was a bit soggy. "
just wanted to let you know that most thin crust when being delivered will get soggy. In fact when ordering New York Pizza that you don't plan on eating in the establishment it is recommended (from another pizza company that makes "NY" pizza")
1. Preheat the oven to 475° with a pizza stone inside (bottom shelf). If you don't have one, a cookie sheet will do nicely. A toaster oven will also work.
2. Once the oven is nice and hot (15-20 minutes is best), put a slice or two on the stone or cookie sheet for a minute or two. Any moisture that has built up on the crust will evaporate and the slice will get nice and crispy.
This is very important for veggie pizzas or combo pizzas heavy in vegetables.
3. DO NOT MICROWAVE...you will zap the life right out of the pizza, making it soggy, then hard.
All this being said....I am a fan! This place serves up a great pizza with some great topping options. The Meat Deluxe is just ridiculously good.
the 2 slices of pizza and a soda for $5.99 is a great buy. I know what you are thinking...2 slices?! I can eat half a pizza!
I know right!!!?
that's what's i thought too....until i ordered these large foldable (the way NY Pizza should be eaten) and realized after the 2nd slice that I was very full! they offer up a nice selection of pizzas for you to choose which flavors you would like to have.
The sauce is pretty good. Actually all the flavors meld together very nicely giving this pizza much justice!
loads of unique pizza options makes this place easy to come back to over and over again.
parking is kinda crazy, but it's downtown l.a. so I can't really hold it against them.
prices are very reasonable even when ordering a whole pizza.
pizza pizza pizza.....
Being from Boston, its hard to find any kind of pizza that comes close to NY pizza. I had lunch here on Thursday and I must say it is comes damn close.
The prices are very reasonable, especialy the lunch special. You get a slice, salad and coke for under $5 bucks, now that is a deal. 5 stars
We ordered pizza to be delivered from here. It was their veggie pizza and the crust was a bit soggy. We will give it one more shot. Maybe just order cheese and ask them to make the crust crisp. Hopefully they will be better next time.
If not...two strikes they are out!
this place is the bee's knees. the bomb diggity. the cat's pajamas.
you get it. it's THAT place.
i love when pizza places can make some great veggie options, and PND does not disappoint. excellent greek, with tiny pieces of bell pepper and tomato so it's super easy to eat. oh so yummy pesto pizza. and if you'd believe it, the absolute best cheese pizza you will ever have. 4 cheese pizza, to be precise. so much flavor and even better without the sauce. i die.
salads are great too (i like the chopped) and their ranch is great for your salad or for dipping. they always give you parmesan and chili flakes which i appreciate (but you better ask for that ranch!)
even if it wasn't next door, even if it was over a barbed wire mountain, through a snake pit and behind a dirty tanning salon, i would still order from pizza next door. it is that good.
Their pizza is bad-ass, most especially their artichoke pizza. So bomb. So worth it.
GO NAO
I had a party last night and everyone commented on how great the piza was. Even Mike McPherson who is from New York. I ordered a Hawaiian Luau Pizza with Imported Canadian Ham & 100% Hawaiian Pineapples, a Supreme - Pepperoni, Sausage, Bell Peppers, Mushrooms, Kalamata Olives & Red Onions, a Four Cheese Pizza (exceptional) and a Pepperoni Pizza with a Italian Salad Platter. it was all a big win!

I haven't had pizza this good since living in New York. This place is golden. I told my friend, "It… Read more »
Pizza Next Door is my favorite pizza in L.A. to date. I've lived here 28 years. I prefer thin crust and they do it right. The crust is crispy, the sauce is flavorful and delicious, and the cheese is loaded on. Oh, they're certainly not stingy with the toppings. I love the tomato basil pizza and the pepperoni, but you can't go wrong with the plain cheese. Their lunch special is a steal. Two slices and a soda for around $5 keeps me coming back.
Downside: because they're so good, you have to wait for over an hour sometimes if you want delivery downtown during lunch hour. Call in your order early.
You can get served immediately if you eat AT the restaurant, but there are only about 4 tables that seat 2 people each and it's HOT in there. Plus, you're kind of right at eye level with all the butts of the people ordering pizza when you're sitting inside. You can sit outside, but you're on a busy street with lots of pedestrians and many many buses going by.
Luckily, this is the kind of pizza you can totally eat while walking. :D
Really good crust. I got a slice of the veggie and one of the cheese. Veggie was pretty good. Cheese was a little greasy on top.
Pizza Next Door is a great New York-style pizza joint. Their pizza is incredibly delicious. Their best is the pepperoni with jalapeños, but all their thin-crust pizzas are good. I'm not too picky with pizza, but Pizza Next Door is just saliva-inducing! Their pizza puts Dominos + Pizza Hut to shame.
The place itself is not fancy inside, but it doesn't have to be. I also love being able to see the pizzas rolling onto the oven. They have great lunch specials too. The owner is great, always nice + friendly. The other workers are nice, but have made mistakes on past orders before. Not a big deal because pizza is pizza.
I've been to PIzza Next Door about four times within two years. It's good pizza if you are craving NY style pizza. I like their choices and their deals for $6.
Only con about this place is that the slices really aren't heated well. At least I don't think so.
Other than that, it's a good place to eat for cheap!
Coming from Chicago, I tend to be more than a little snobby about my pizza. Growing up, I took great pizza for granted because you could get it anywhere.
Well, living in Los Angeles has definitely smacked me back to reality. Like a lot of food here, flash rules over substance. I believe a pizza joint lives and dies by it's cheese slice. Most places just don't measure up. Enter Pizza Next Door. There's not a bad pie in the house. Yeah, their cheese pizza is definitely above average, but what really earns my 5-star rating is the BBQ chicken pizza. Easily the best pizza of any kind that I've ever had. I had dreams about it for years and I swear I can hear angels singing with every bite.
If you are actually considering Dominos, don't even bother to read this any further. Go get a gross pizza, go shop at Walmart and be responsible for destroying America and turning us into robots.
If you hate the man, read on.
Really the best pizza I've had in LA. NYCish style so it's greasy, but amazing.
I've had it three times and it's magnificent every time.
My wife gets the Hawaiian style and I don't usually like Hawaiian, but this place makes the best around.
Delivery is usually faster than they quote you over the phone.
good stuff. Especially for late night slice orders if you're staying in the city. Try it.
I think it's pretty awesome this place delivers to Seven Grand. Twice now, I've had a chance to taste some of this delicious pizza while I've been at the bar. The last time recently, there was a large group of us at Seven Grand having lots of drinks that started around happy hour time at 5pm. By 9pm, we wanted something to coat or tummies, so my friend suggested we order some pizza from Pizza Next Door. We ordered 2 large pizzas and one medium pizza and it came out to right under $30 which is a deal! Not only is it inexpensive and convenient, the pizza is actually really good! I know a part of it had to do with the fact that we had some liquor in us, but I know this pizza was really yummy. In fact, my friend who had just arrived and was still sober, said the pizza was reeeeally flavorful. One of the pizzas had fresh basil and tomatoes and I still remember the wonderful aromas it gave off, not to mention the freshness in its taste. I also remember stealing a pepperoni off of the pepperoni pizza and loving it. I love when pepperoni pizzas are covered in pepperoni and when some are almost burnt to a crisp and they're yummy, salty and crunchy, just like a chip.
*lightbulb* OMG, pepperoni chips! Yummmmmmmm!
Best Pizza in downtown, for a great price. Huge slices, and a cheap deal. whenever I'm downtown It is always an option.
You can Valet Park for pickups just down the street. Just tell them you're picking up pizza at PND and they will park it off to the side, throw the guy $2 and it's all cool.
I love this place. Pizza is one of my favorite foods, so when I'm at work and need a pizza fix, I come here. I don't usually like hawaiian pizza, but theirs is as good as it gets! I won't order it anywhere else.

There comes a time in a man's life when he stops, takes a step back, and evaluates what his life is, where it's going, what it might become, and all this begs the question--why and for what?
At the conclusion of the first week of my 'SuperSlice Me' head-to-head Pizza Wars odyssey, I had one of these moments.
1. What is my Life?--
I eat 4 slices of pizza a day.
2. Where is it Going? --
Into a zone of complete and utter disregard for the fate of my stomach, and any other elements of my gastric/digestive system.
3) What Might it Become?
A full on cheese, sauce, grease, and carb obsession.
4) Why and For What?
For no logical reason, i decided this past week to give it another go at finding non-crap-ass-faux-NYC-inspired slice 'o' pizza pie-o in this veritable pizza wasteland.
Apparently, I Yelp Therefore I am, I Yelp it 'Cause I can't Help It, and all that other jargonybidereedoo...
Because here i am a week later, and the odyssey continues unabated.
Despite early warning signs from my body and brain that we are entering the Danger Zone. (and no, puh-leez do not cue up that cheese-ball mullet-cut mid-80's Kenny Loggins Top Gun song or i'm a gonna make sure somebody sleeps with da fishes)...

Pizza Next Door, here is my stream of consciousness rant on you. (and for those of you scoring at home, the mere presence of the word 'RANT' does not forebode well...)

Seriously people, you can't be too snobby about a pizza place next to a whiskey bar.
It's a no-fuss New York style pizza. Lots of toppings, lots of grease, really fast. They deliver to all of the bars around downtown that don't have food, namely Seven Grand. Delivery is also expedient.
I definitely recommend this place.
They'll deliver to the Broadway Bar. They're fast, generous with the toppings, the pizza is yummy, and the crust is perfect.
They're definitely my #1 pick for pizza when I'm downtown.
Now that I semi-work in downtown once or twice a week, I have been scoping out different lunch spots and today, I chanced upon a wonderful place: Pizza Next Door.
In particular, I need something quick, tasty, and preferably pretty affordable. I'm in, grab a slice, and I'm out for under $4.50 with a beverage! You just can't beat that. Thin, perfect crust, great sauce, and tasty toppings (their olives are strange and wonderful!) at the right price, speed and location!
P.S. - They are located on 7th Street in between Figueroa and Flower.
Good pizza. I got 2 slices of bbq chicken and a soda for $6 which is pretty good. The pizza was a thin crust with a bbq sauce and cheese along with white chicken breast topped. The pizza was good and although I usually prefer thicker dough / crust, this pizza was delicious. They give you big slices but I think they should heat it a wee bit more. Inside, there is modern, nice space but there is limited seating though (about 10 people max?) so you might have to take out. Also like most pizza, its much better when warm. They open later than most restaurants downtown right next to subway, Ihop and the macy's plaza. The staff is nice enough although not "friendly" if you know what I mean, they have a smallish flat screen TV usually playing a movie or whatnot.
Only problem... parking sucks. It is in downtown so the parking is either lot parking or street parking, I would probably go more often if it wasn't for this annoyance. I took my motorcycle and snuck in between two cars ha.
Also, i think its funny people trying to find "authentic" NY pizza. I'm originally from Philly, im not going to bother trying to find an authentic cheesesteak in LA, because it's not possible, not worth it.
I found their menu in the lobby of my building and ordered it on move-in day. I recalled it being so delicious (probably because we had been moving all day and were starving) that I spent the next two weeks craaaaving it. When I finally ordered it a days ago it was as good as I remember. Crisp thin crust, tons of gooey cheese, and tasty pepperoni and best of all, it was fairly priced for delivery. My 14" pepperoni was $13-ish delivered. That's way better, and bigger than any chain!
Honestly not remarkable. Reminded me of something slightly better than Costco. Sure the prices are good for something in Downtown, but the crust is average at best. Cheese and toppings are decent though. Since it's the best pizza around my office I might come here every once in a while, but it's not something worth traveling out here for. To average 4.5 stars on yelp, I don't quite understand.
Lunch special is $5.75 for two slices (any slices) and a drink.
I like Pizza Next Door but I don't why it is all the rage with people downtown. Often there is way too much cheese and that isn't usually a problem for me. that is easily solved as you just pull some off but even still I don't think it is as great as people make it out to be. I have yet to find a great piece of pizza downtown but this place is good. I like Big Mama's better though when it is fresh. Otherwise, this is better. It is also much cheaper than Big Mama's.
I know this a bold statement but this is the best pizza in downtown. its good and cheap. I had the 1 slice veggie with a salad and soda for $6.00 buck pretty cool!!
This place is REALLY annoying. They've delivered to me at least ten times. I called today and they said they won't deliver to me. Um, ok. I only live DOWN THE DAMN STREET.
2 slices of GREAT pizza + 1 soda pop for $5.50? SOLD!
I work in the Macy's Plaza office building. This place is right down the street from me, so I eat there often.
The pizza slices are generous, the toppings fresh, the service is great, and you can't beat lunch for under $5 in LA. Yes I said UNDER $5!!
Also, the wide selection of beverages is awesome, including San Pelligrino water/soda (love the lemon flavor!!)
So for $3.75 I can get a huge slice of pizza with anything I want on it and a can of Italian soda.
Awesome.
Since working in Downtown L.A. I have been looking for a great pizza place and Pizza Next Door is it. BBQ chicken is my favorite right next the the Hawaiian. The Mediterranean and Meat Lovers are just great. The price is beyond reasonable and the ingredients are fresh. If you are ever in downtown and on a budget, this is the place.
This is the type of pizza joint I love. Tiny, you can barely fit a table in the place. A line of pies ready to go on the counter. Point, box, pay, scrum.
The slices are huge and its damn good pizza. Because of its location, when it came time to pull the card from the wallet (yes, they take card. Fuck yea!), I was expecting it to whimper and sob worse than me in 110 traffic because of the abuse i was about to cause it... but surprisingly, this awesome pizza was dirt cheap!
And I know. I saw your eyes dart across the street. You saw that California Pizza Kitchen. Why in the world are you even THINKING about going to that overpriced and overpacked CPK chain, and getting a pizza with carrot strips and brussel sprouts on it? Go to Pizza Next Door instead. Youll high-five me later.
So this is where I go if I'm craving pizza. Not at gross CPK. They serve New York style, just make sure to grab some napkins to blot the grease off :)
Stick with a classic cheese pizza, and you will be happy. It's amazingly CHEAP! Love love love it. And they deliver!
I just am not a fan of their salads. I was trying to be healthy and I ordered a salad. I regretted it. Not fresh and crappy dressing. I should have had another slice :(
I definitely walked by this place for an entire year before finding out that it was allegedly some of the best pizza in Downtown. The convo went something like...
Katie: "Oh MAN this is THAT place!"
Matt: "What place?"
Katie: "The PIZZA place!"
Matt: "Katie, you're stating the obvious again."
Katie: "NO! It's like... THE pizza place!"
Matt: "... you've lost me."
Jordan: "She's trying to tell you that this is the oft lauded Downtown pizza staple which succeeds in bringing the authenticity of New York 'Pizza by the Slice' culture to a wider audience; notably without sacrificing a certain level of authenticity and savory affordability."
All: "..."
Matt: "Oh. Jeez, Katie, why didn't you just say so?"
Katie: "Waaaah!"
As Katie was trying to tell me, this pizza has quite a reputation; though it may well be the most unassuming, unpretentious eatery in the immediate area. So much so, that you might easily -- as I did -- walk by this place and write it off as some kind of "Sbarro's 2.0," which couldn't be farther from the truth.
Don't take my word for it, the New Yorkers have spoken: "This pizza is pretty smokin', and for what they're charging? Mama mia." As the other reviewers have stated, though, it's better to get a whole pie than a single slice in terms of quality. But if you're on the go, believe me, a slice will by no means disappoint. If these guys stayed open later, they'd have that 5th star -- easily.
UPDATE - 05/23/2007
I ordered a single pizza at 10:45 am for an 11:30 am delivery. Apparently im not thier only customer - I thought I was the most devoted though - they forgot me. poop. I feel abandoned and alone. No ooey gooey cha cha cha cheeeeeseey fix. :( No pizza for me today. Now, lunch is over and had I known they were going to forget me, I would have GONE there to pick it up.
Jaded.

The Scene:
*Its 8:47p.m. Downtown Los Angeles, CA - don't wanna cook, I'm tired and hungry - Yelped "Pizza" Came up with Pizza Next Door*
30 minutes later:
*Enter stage right - pizza guy - I pay's @ $12 and tip generously - grab pizza - shut the door quickly and scurry over to the coffee table to feed my face - I was overcome with sheer delight to my eyes and my tummy - steamy - oooh, aaaah. Thin crust - slight crunch - even having been in the box for a little while it's ride over here (I was amazed).
Taste:
Number one, not greasy - they included the red peppers and parme cheese in the box (nice) my paws didn't stuggle to release a slice from the pie. Cheeeeesy stretching... oooh. Fresh whole leaf basil hidden under the cheese (so it wont burn, I suppose) Fresh roma tomatos neatly nestled into the cheese. I strech and slightly bend my neck to get the tip of my slice into me's mouth. AAAAH. Yesssss! Holy Stromboli Batman, this place has got a great - not overpowering - slightly sweet - pizza sauce that perfectly marries the basil with the crisp of the crust. Delicious. Amazing what fresh ingredients will do for a pizza.
The Result:
No leftovers, what can I say. It was a medium - 14" 8 slices. I slept happy.
Where is my pizza you said would be here for a lunch meeting? It's 30 minutes late and this meeting is going down the drain because we're all cranky!
OK, pizza just got here. Wow, this is delicious. I do a half take-back of what I said in the first paragraph.
Good pizza AND a great special for under $6 for drink, big slice AND a salad with veggies & cheese
Takes credit card
My new favorite work lunch pizza place! Even though the salads are weak little pre-packaged over-cheesed disappointments, the pizza is a good deal. As others have said, you can get a slice/salad/soda or 2 slice/soda combo for 5.75, and there's a nice variety of pizza. I had mushroom, jalapeno and pepperoni today, but the veggie supreme looked tempting. Quick service, nice people, but only seats for about 12 people at tiny tables.
The turn around on the pizza during lunch is pretty quick and regular, so there's not a lot of pizza sitting around. My slice was near the end of my pie, so there was a little sogginess on the front half of the crust, but it was more than warm enough, not too greasy, and the toppings were plentiful. I was struck by the fact that they use slices of mozzarella, reminiscent of real Italian pizza, as opposed to the shredded stuff that's so prevalent in by-the-slice joints (thank you Mr. Gold for expounding the different mentalities behind pizza joints). This is the new lunch pizza spot, though, since Pitfire takes longer and Big Mama's just isn't as good.
Not the worst place in downtown for a quick lunch. Their BBQ chicken pizza is really good. The problem is, they don't have it all the time. Sometimes they run out and they haven't made another one yet. The other pizzas I've tried here are just ok (hawaiian, pepperoni, sausage, bacon). The toppings are good, but I don't really like the tomato sauce they use. It's kind of pasty and I don't like the taste that much. The slices are good sized and they have a special where you can get 2 pieces of pizza and a drink for $5.75. As I said, not bad for a quick and cheap lunch, but if I have the time to walk a little farther I'd rather go to Big Mama's or if I don't mind spending more I'd rather go to California Pizza Kitchen a couple blocks away. I'd give it 2.5 stars if we could rate by half stars.
If you need a slice of pizza that reminds you of the East Coast, look no further than Pizza Next Door. I've not eaten there in a few months, so I'm going straight there for lunch tomorrow.
More info next post, do yourself a favor and check it out..

I'll be more posty from now on...
This place is really, REALLY good pizza! I've only had it once, but I really liked it and have tried to go back, but (and this is why they lost a star) they're closed on SUNDAYS!!! That's crazy! i guess lots of downtown businesses still haven't realized that there are a lot of us that acutally LIVE in downtown! Hopefully they'll get it right someday :-)
Pizza Next Door is great if you live in Downtown, because it's literally next door. The pizza is of decent quality, thick cheese and good sauce. I've only ever gotten cheese pizza, a large (18") runs about $14 and a medium (14" I believe) is about $10. My big problem with Pizza Next Door is that it only stays open until 9pm, and I often want some pizza after 9pm. I'd give this place 4 stars if it stayed open later.
