Maybe I just don't understand this pizza. There's not much sauce; I mean, you *really* have to look, nevermind taste. The crust bursts grease onto your tongue when you bite it. Sometimes this could be a good thing, but not tonight. If I wasn't careful I could have ruined a shirt.
The staff is friendly and I dig how they cut the slice into slices. My gentleman thinks it would be a good pizza to order for a party as a little hors d'oeuvers (if pizza can be considered a hors d'oeuvers). I can see it; its an attractive pizza. Less attractive is the styrofoam container for take-out. Big no-no.
I think they make the slices fresh to order, which is unique. If you like sauce be sure and mention that, because again, they go super light on sauce.
Stopped in for a slice around 8:30pm and it seriously felt like 4am on a University campus. Gross. I decided to order To Go and just eat it when I got home.
Sitting there watching how the cook operates and calls up orders it became clear to me that there's no "system" here. He rings a bell, the girl who takes orders comes to check if it's a delivery or carry out, totally slow and inefficient. So much so that a customer with another take out order took my two slices of pizza with her order, and the cook never told her not to.
The order girl came by and was saying "she'll be back, once she's figured out she's got the wrong slice". Nah, I doubt it. And, shouldn't you be saying "Sorry" to me instead of blaming the customer on your bad "system"?
In the end they offered me a free Coke when my revised order came up, but I'll never stop in again. Delivery, maybe. The pizza's still good.

Stopped in for a quick slice and wow-that crust! It's light, it's a little crispy- kind of what I… Read more »
I had the joy of dogsitting for some friends right around the corner from here, and before I made my way to the grocery store, this is the bulk of what I ate. I'd seen this place scattered all about the Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village/Humboldt Park area and was always curious about it. I finally got my chance to check it out.
I love that they let you order by the slice. It was a great way for me to get my initial foray into their pie. I played it safe and got the margherita and the pepperoni. I was a little skeptical of the square format, but when I bit into my little slice, it was a piece of rectangular heaven. I really enjoyed their crust and the sauce, cheese and toppings seemed really fresh. My experience was so good that I went back four times in one week. I tried a couple of the sandwiches (which were pretty decent), some salads (not the greatest but adequate), and my new love, the potato rosemary pizza. That crust is magical. I want the recipe.
Apparently with all the local canine culture, they also let you know which pies are pup friendly. Street parking around there's a bitch (especially with a lot of the parking being of the permit variety), so I suggest you CTA it or walk if you can. The decor is decidedly Italian with a soccer slant (every time I went in, there was always some soccer on the television). And there's a nice little pastry case as you enter (which I never indulged in, maybe next time...) All in all, I really like Pizza Metro. I'm just bummed I have to take a trip up the Blue Line to get it.
Two Words:
Garbage
Pizza.
Definitely my choice in thin crust pizza. It has a pleasant crunch and it's really buttery. It doesn't feel heavy though and they are creative with their combinations. One of my favorites had blue cheese and zucchini. If you're in the mood for thin crust done right. Eat at pizza metro.
I ordered delivery from this place. I got a garbage pizza which Ive had and liked before. My problem is with the size of the "18 inch" pizza I ordered. When it arrived, the pizza filled only half the box. When I went into the shop to see what happened, I was informed that what I got was, in fact, a "whole" pizza. The cook showed me an example, another pizza in a box, which ended up being quite a bit larger than what I got.
Im not the type of person to complain a lot, or post negative things about places Ive been. I did make the choice to go there in the first place. I just feel absolutely ripped off here, although the pizza wasnt bad. My total came out to $45 for a "whole 18 inch pizza" and a six pack of pellegrino. Thats way too pricy for half a pizza in my book.
Stopped for a slice while I was at Renegade Craft Fair. It is was delicious! The crust is amazing.
Only complaint is the place had one waitress working. I felt so bad for her. She was working the entire outside patio, inside, and taking to go orders all by herself...on the Saturday of Renegade Craft Fair which was 10 feet away!
Pizza Metro's garbage pizza is quickly setting the gold standard in this guy's book! I've already reviewed Metro, but feel that I just have to re-iterate my opinion on these guys and drop the 5-star!
In the last two weeks, I've ordered Metro's amazing 'za 2 times, for 2 different groups of friends. Each time I was told things like, "who makes this pizza again?!" and "man -- that crust!" and ALWAYS "can I have that last piece?"
Metro's phone answer-ers and delivery folks are friendly and patient, as my doorbell doesn't always work! Also, when I ordered a pie to the Innertown Pub just down the street, delivery man was super cool about waiting a few extra minutes for me to navigate the packed bar to the ATM and back.
Do eeeeettttt!!!

I'm not a thin crust pizza kind of girl, typically - but I do like Pizza Metro. Good crust - also, branch out and add some jalapenos to your order - they are DELISH.
Yuck. I've given this place too many chances and the pizza is just plain bad now. The first time I ate here about a year ago, it was quite good. Then I moved in down the street and the pizza here immediately began to suck. the last few pizzas were sopping wet with grease. Just sloppy...barely holding together. That crispy crust I enjoyed the first time is long gone.
The other thing that pisses me off about the place is that it isn't cheap. Also, their pricing is a little jacked. I think you're better off ordering individual slices instead of whole or half pizzas. It costs $12+ bucks to get a half pizza from here. Next time I wanna ingest pure grease I'll call the Hut.
Oh, and don't get any of their "desserts". They taste like pizza. Obviously from having been baked in the same ovens.
A star just for the panna cotta.
A star for all of the sexy guys who work / hang out there.
A star because they are a beacon of light on a yuppie-blighted stretch of Division.
And one star for quality ingredients that are made by hand. (less consistent, but more human).
Can't give them five stars because the cooks sit finished togo orders on top of the pastry case without knowing who they go to. It's kind of annoying waiting for an order that is already finished.
So I finally went to eat at Pizza Metro and let me just say, the pizza was as good as ever. Last time I had it, it was slightly warm and in a doggy bag. Let me just say that fresh and crispy pizza is way better than boxed (even though I fell in love with the boxed!).
We sat outside after a rainy day and the evening weather was just perfect. The service was a bit "meh" but I'll let it slide (not really, deducting 1 star!) since the pizza is awesome. We got super overzealous though and ordered a whole pizza for 2 adults and 1 kid. Holy cow did we have a ton of leftovers, but at least we had an incredible lunch the following day!

I like it here when I'm craving fast Italian food. I like the spinach pizza and chicken ceasar salad. I dislike the paper plates and most plastic forks in the world but still worth eating there. They definately need a bigger spot on Division. The west Division spot is scary.
So at the request of my roommate who's from Chicago, I wandered down to Pizza Metro my first night in town.
While I was saddened to find that they don't serve alcohol, the fact that it's BYOB more than makes up for it.
I've only had their pizza here and have to say it is f-in delicious. I'm a fan of pan pizza, but this place somehow gets the puffiness of pan into a thin crust pizza. I've never had anything like it. The pizza comes in flat squares cut into even smaller squares, a little different than most pizza joints but really fun to eat and easy to over eat.
The staff is very laid back and super friendly. They're open late so it's easy to go grab a bite after a couple drinks.
While I can't wait to try some of the other stuff on their menu, their sandwiches sound delicious, I always convince myself to get the pizza everytime I go in b/c I can't resist.
If you like pizza, go. go now.
not a huge fan of thin crust ... but their thin crust is pretty damn good
I ordered delivery last night & cannot express the amount of deliciousness and happiness I experienced. I ordered half a Hawaiian Pizza, which was so flavorful & fresh. The thinness of the pizza was not affected by the amount of pineapple/ham, which was a concern.
We also ordered an appetizer combo platter thing, but I wouldn't recommend it. Nothing special & kinda pricey. The pizza in itself is more than enough for 2 pizza loving individuals.

I was starving before the Yelp Game Night Event and we wanted to get something close and quick before we headed over to Lincoln Park. Looked over to my right and there it was.....Pizza Metro!
Walked in and it was sort of diner-like. This is a very friendly establishment. The cute girl inside greeted us with a smile and took our order. We got 2 slices of pepperoni and the two slices looked like a half of pizza. We were amazed how big the slices were. The pizza was ready in under 10 mins and was very delicious. Great pizza for a great price! Will definately return!
This review might sound strange. Why? Well, it's a pizza place and I have never had the pizza so this will be a review on Pizza Metro's pasta. The Alfredo is the best sauce in the city! I have been to high end Italian restaurants in Chicago, New York and Miami and none of their Alfredo sauces hold a candle to Pizza Metro's. Definitely a gem!
I guess I need to try their pizza, but if it ain't broke ....
Leo makes the best cookies. Nuff said. They come in Peach, Raspberry and nutella. It's two layers of home-made cookie love with either of these flavors holding them together. He is the SOLE reason I have gained 5 pounds in the last few months.

OK this isn't the type of place you want to go to but its perfect for carry out.
I am not the first person to LOVE thin crust BUT DANG they got it right here.
Their dough is still chewy yummy like I love, they have a sauce that makes even their plain cheese pretty darned good.... and I highly reccomend their specialty pizzas. Like the Hawaiian or MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE the Garbage pizza. If you love STUFF on your pizza this is the cream of the crop.
I was introduced to Pizza Metro a couple years ago by a friend who lives nearby. It was tasty then, and tasty now. And yes, I have usually been imbibing a bit in the hours leading up to a PM excursion, but I don't think that diminishes my judgment -- it simply increases my love of/craving for pizza!
You can't go wrong with a slice of the pepperoni -- and I love how a slice is actually several mini-slices in one -- it makes you feel super-indulgent. However, the potato rosemary also hits the spot when you're looking for somethin' a little hearty. My friend enjoyed the Napoletana (anchovies), too.
Said friend was commenting on how pizza brings people together. She mentioned that in two separate visits, she managed to hear people speaking in Italian, Spanish, and some Eastern European language (Polish, Russian?). I think that's just about perfect -- why NOT unite over good pizza?
Next time I've had a few at Rainbo, chances are I'll probably make my way over to Pizza Metro yet again -- I'm lookin' forward to it!
I really like this place. I usually get thin-crust w/ sausage. It has the little crumbly sausage, which always reminds me of the pizza we had in grade school for hot lunch (back when I referred to sausage as "crumbly").
I've never had it delivered, so I can't testify to that. I usually go with one of my friends who is a Pizza Metro groupie, and eat in (or out, when it's nice outside and they put tables out). It's dangerous though - we'll each get a slice or 2, sit around talking, and then - oh no, it's gone and we still want some more! So we get another one, and then - oh, no! We usually try to stop there, but sometimes get weak. It's that good.
We just picked up a pizza tonight and brought it home.... first of all, they got our order wrong, even though the phone guy repeated it back to me when I ordered and he said it correctly. Secondly, it was burnt, not just a little, but black crust burnt. Third, when we called back to let them know of their errors, the guy who answered was rude and acted like he didn't even care about the mistake. Spend your money elsewhere... there are so many better pizza places in Chicago!!!!!!!!
I told my dad I gained the ten pounds back that I initially lost when I returned to Chicago from Los Angeles. What I didn't tell him is that it took twice the consumption amount to do so. My stomach is like paris hilton's cell phone battery, it constantly needs re-charging. Pizza Metro looked like the perfect place to plug in as Sunday pandiculation occurred.
I order a slice of grilled chicken. I asked the dude at the front what they put on it. Cheese, bread, and chicken. Just how I like it. My eyes scale the walls decorated entirely with soccer memorabilia. A long with a plethora of scarves, pinned are the jerseys of great teams: Germany, Brazil, Argentina, France, Portugal. Italy, even Poland! The lack of an England kit offended me.
"Are you guys anti-English league here?" I blurted out, with the confidence that anyone working three feet from a wall full of soccer jerseys should know a thing or two about the sport.
"There isn't a single team represented!"
"No...look man: West Ham!"
In disheveled agony I trembled as I looked up to notice the despicable scarf of a mid to bottom table team from East London known as West Ham United.
"The owner is from Rome and loves soccer. These were all gifts man." Makes sense. I focus on two Italian flags and plenty of Roma and Milan scarves.
"Ah, well in that case, I guess I'll have to give you guys a Chelsea scarf then, eh? That is, if I like the pizza..." I chuckled to myself.
"Yeah, give it to him and maybe he will put it up."
While waiting for my pizza the vibrant young server who I started a conversation with continued it:
"You like English soccer?"
"Love it. My dad is from England and I was raised a die-hard Chelsea fan.
"That's cool man, I like Liverpool."
"Why?!?" the royal Southern English pride couldn't help itself blabber out of me- Liverpool of course being the scoundrel 'scousers from the North. He searched for an answer.
"Cause...I like their moves."
"Fair enough. I'll give you that Fernando Torres is a pleasure to watch. I'm Chelsea for life man. When I was growing up Chelsea always finished around the 4th-6th position. Even though they didn't win they always had European flair. Then the eighth richest man in the world bought the team and pumped billi's on players including Drogba, Ballack, and Essien and payed for everything else that creates a championship team, including hiring one of the greatest managers Chelsea have ever had. He led them to two English Premiership titles a few years ago.
"Who was that?"
"His name was José Mourinho."
"Josey Mharinyo! Is that Brazilian?"
"No, Portuguese." He stood corrected.
My slice of pizza came hot and fresh out the oven. It took some time to cook but obviously my interlocutor kept me engaged. Authentic goldmine! Not a substitute pizza found in the frozen aisles lost in the supermarket by any means.
"Buen provecho," said my new soccer chum. "It's what we say in Spanish. Kind of like Bon Appetite."
"Thank You." I responded, probably in the most genuine way I have used that term in a long time. Just like I would be at a restaurant in Italy, I am encouraged to truly enjoy my food. What a way to start a meal! Or snack, in the case of my stomach battery.
Nothing over-zealous, not too cheesy. The chicken subtle yet tasty. This is exactly how I picture a pizza delivery place should be. Peace surrounded me as I took my next bite. Then-
"So what are you doing in Chicago man?"
The luminous question that daunts me too often was presented by the coolest server I've ever had. Great...
"School." I brush off.
"Which One?"
Oh no. I despise this question. Now he'll never look at me the same. I tell him the school.
"Oh yeah? I went to the art institute of Chicago. This is my glorious after art-school life man. Hey...it's not that bad. I've really got it a lot better than most kids I know who graduated from there."
I nod.
"I have a pretty cool gig here. Our computers are old but still, you can go look at the receipts day-to-day and analyze the trends. For example, how many pizza's we delivered last super bowl compared to this year. NCAA games, American Idol, etc and you can really see what goes on."
That's cool. I'm way past deciding I like this place. I ask, "So are you guys doing OK then?"
A disconcerting look shoots my way. "Oh. Metro Pizza is one of the only places in the area that has stayed around." He acknowledges the boutiques, fancy bars that look something out of a Vin Diesel movie, and all the attempts of restaurants that came and went. PizzaMetro on the other hand, has veni vedi vici'd yet stayed to vici longer. And rightfully so.
It is impossible to deny Metro Pizza has that neighborhood-corner-pizza-place feel but unlike many of the places near it (Crust-cough-cough) it doesn't compromise. The pizza is fucking good. I now finally have a place in Chicago where I am truly excited about pretending I'm not lactose intolerant.
This is honestly some of the best pizza I've ever had. It doesn't just taste better than normal pizza, it is a distinctly different style of pizza. It's far less greasy and cheesy, and while I don't any empirical evidence it seems significantly healthier. It also seems more authentic, but that just might be a byproduct of it being/seeming healthier. They really seem to know what they're doing. Also, they pre-bake the crusts (I think), which makes the pizzas only take about 15 minutes. Much better than the typical 45+ minutes you get elsewhere.
My personal favorite is the margherita pizza, but I'm also partial to the potato & rosemary.
If you want super-authentic Roman-style pizza in super-authentic surroundings, come to Pizza Metro.
I lived in Rome for six months and for a long time, have not been able to find any place that is similar to the small little pizza places that were open late at night in the Eternal City.
A friend and I came here because Angels and Mariachis was overcorwded (and I'm not going there based on the Yelp reviews I just read of it.)
The whole place, decorated in calcio (soccer) memorabilia is something straight out of a little Roman pizzeria. I had arancini and suppli, which were soft and melty, prefectly cooked. Pizza was good too, in the Roman "quadrata" square-style. I had the Romano with onion, cheese and ham...excellent.
The prices were amazing...I think I paid $7 or 8 for arancini, suppli and pizza.
I've only been once. I went for the pizza and because it was BYOB. Outdoor seating is a plus, which is great for people watching on Division. However, this isn't pizza. It's cheese with your choice of toppings on a giant cracker. It's not for me, if it's for you, go here.
So I won't lie, I am relatively faded. We like pizza. If you don't, you're incorrect. So turn on CNN. Larry King is talking shit about UFOs. What a terrestrialist!
I guess I need to update this. I wrote that ^^^ last night after a trip to the Hideout.
Anyway, the staff at this place didn't seem entirely thrilled with 5 overserved individuals showing up at midnight thirty or whatever time it was right before closing. Fortunately, we had canned lager in tow. They liked that we shared. They even gave us some profiteroles (which were not good).
Compare this with my last Pizza Metro experience:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I don't know if the first time was a fluke, but this was much better (I think?). The crust was there. We got some sort of deluxe pizza and it was quite good (I do recall enjoying it). So I'll try this place again, at least for dining in.
I'm a deep dish fan and they don't sell deep dish. Also they use too much salt.
Two stars for convenience and late night service.
umm, yum!!!!!!!! This is some good stuff! So many options as to combos, pasta dishes (that I have yet to try!). They have outdoor seating (that gets more attention than some places on division, depending on the day), a capuccino maker (major points for this!), and homemade cookies.... but I dohave to say, I only tried the cookies b/c I called in my order, showed up, and they hadn't put my order in. I understand though, things do get messed up sometimes...but why so early in our relationship?? ;-) so the guy offered 2 cookies in exchange for the "mix up." Not really comparable, but a nice gesture nonetheless.
LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!
p.s. I ADORE how italian this spot it! I can see the authenticity in the people and the joint.
I love this place. I really do. It's not fancy-schmancy, but what you can expect is great pizza and a great price.
There is a small bar set up for inside dining, but the patio is fabulous to enjoy some BYO and pizza with your friends when the weather permits. A slice of pizza runs about $3 and they are big enough to fill you up. Four of us had an appetizer and 2 halfs for $30. Oh, yes, did I mention we got wasted too. Of course, off of some $10 bottles of champagne I brought from home. God, I love BYO's...
I am a hardcore meat-eater, but seriously, try the potato-rosemary. It is sooooo good. I am also a fan of the capricciosa. Service is decent, what I would expect from a late night pizza joint. Overall, I love that I can come by myself to pick up dinner or bring friends to a yummy place where no one has to worry about breaking the bank.
Whenever we get delivery, we always get Metro!
Their pizza is absolutely delicious. I love the crust as well as the many options for toppings. The large pizza is HUGE and it will feed us for days after we order it. I have never actually eaten in the restaurant, but their delivery is always quick and courteous. Usually they say 45 minutes and they arrive in 25. I've never had a problem with an order mixup or anything and the pizza really is the most wonderful thin crust I've had in the city of Deep Dish.
Damn you, Pizza Metro. I want to like you, I really do.
The first time I ordered pizza from here, it was so good. Really, really, good. Delicious buttery crispy crust. Granted, I only got pepperoni, so it's kind of hard to mess up the toppings. But honestly, it was one of the best pizzas I've eaten all year.
So I order it again. Whoa, what happened?! It took forever to get here. And the pizza sucked. Crust was completely different and it was a little cold. Pffft is all I could say about it.
I'm kind of afraid to try it again. I'm always willing to give people and food a second chance, but the second pizza was so bad that I don't know if I could bear another like it. Pizza Metro is like a person with bipolar disorder, or like the Katy Perry song Hot and Cold. Completely and utterly different on different occasions. I just don't want to get the bad side again.
Three stars because it's the average between 5 and 1.
Pizza is made Roman style. It's par-baked Foccacia and the toppings are added as you order. It's cooked in a convection oven for an even and "clean" bake.
This is very greasy, but in the way that Foccacia is (saturated in olive oil not lard or butter). Sure the cheese is greasy too but it's better than the mozz. that many places use... or maybe it's just the oven that makes it stringy and chewy.
Toppings are plentiful. Price is great.
1 "slice" is anywhere from $2 something to $4, depending on what you put on it. Many people only need the one slice, but it's too good for me not to order a half ($11 Capprici... it was artichokes, ham and black olives). Half refers to a quarter sheet pan of the Foccacia.
With beer, a "half" will take me through 2 well-fed meals.
Only 4 stars because they need better ventilation. I feel sorry for the kitchen workers in the Summer. It's sweltering in there.
Pizza Metro is a nice thin crust alternative. The service was a little slow- I was expecting it to be faster... but I was in no rush. I had a slice of the Potato Rosemary. The crust is thin, a light crunchy dough. The sauce is relatively light, reminded me more of a bruschetta sauce as opposed to a pizza sauce. It was quite tasty but not what I was expecting. I would give it 3.5 stars for having Pellegrino sparkling water and a nice patio section.
The price is right.
Very tasty thin crust pizza. We had it delivered to work last week. Tomato Basil pizza is always a plus in my book.
OH . MY . GOD!!
Why haven't I eaten Gnocci before in my lifetime?
Yeah, it's a carb blast to the system, bad for my diet, but I really don't care -- this 4 cheese Gnocci is simply nirvanic! My toes have curled so much I no longer have shins!
Oh yes, yes, YES -- give me MORE!! I will definitely order from this restaurant again!!
Now, where did I put that Tiramisu?.....
The pizza here is delicious and cheap!!! I am a huge thin crust fan and I found it difficult for any establishment to beat out my favorite pizza place PIECE. But, this place did it! The pizza here was surprisingly really good. First off, the people that operate this pizza parlor speak Italian!!! You know that means its authentic! They have both inside and outside seating. I would recommend eating outside because the heat of the ovens inside may be overwhelming. You can order pizza by the slice or as a whole. We opted to order by the slice. Its about $2-$4 dollars a slice depending on what ingredients you want on your pizza. The crust was extremely crispy on the outside but moist and flaky on the inside. The crust tasted pastry-like. I cant really explain it, but its good!!! The slice they give you isnt cut like a regular slice of pizza either. Its rectangular shaped and cut into 6 small squares. I thought the portions were pretty decent and I couldnt even finish 2 slices! This place is definitely a winner! Maybe my new favorite?
This place isn't bad. I got delivery once and didn't like it, but have had it there a bunch of times and enjoyed it just fine. I really like the Romano pizza, which is onion, ham and maybe something else. You can get a regular to share or a slice for one and be pretty happy with the amount you get. Any it's BYOB, so that rocks.
It's usually really hot inside, so I only eat outside.
The ppl who work here are psycho! We ordered for delivery for a girls night in Logan Square (which is not far) on a Sat night. The guy was seriously playing jokes on us b/c when we were trying to tell him what street our friend lived on, he was SOO obnoxious. 1 hour later, we hadn't received our pizza, so we called to check in and the worker there simply said "sorry, we got busy here, so we haven't delivered yet." I understand if you're busy on a Sat. night, but when you say delivery will take 45 mins, you better not be just saying that and sitting on our order!! We were so furious we called back and asked if the delivery guy was already on his way else we'd cancel our order.
Luckily (for them), the delivery guy was on his way, and the pizza FINALLY came. We ordered the potato pizza, rosemary chicken, and a chicken and tomato one. My fav on the night was the rosemary chicken since it was the most flavorful. The other two lacked in taste, although I did like the potato pizza 2nd best -- who doesn't love starch atop starch? The pizza here is "thin crust" but don't expect much taste. There are mixed reviews on this place, so maybe it's just more of a dine-in joint.
Crust never tasted so gooooood...
Um, unless you are missing taste buds, hate buttery goodness, and like ingredients that come from a can, you will like Pizza Metro. I typically love thin crust because I really enjoy the toppings and sause, but this crust is so yummy, I think even a thick crusted lover will find this tasty.
