Pizza Capri has the best deep dish pizza! The crust and cheese is so delicious, the right amount of sauce - everything is perfect about their pizza! We've ordered the pizza take out about 15 times and we have only had a bad experience once (the ingredients were messed up but they corrected this and gave us free cheesecake).
Dining in is nice too, I would go just for the olive oil and bread! Whatever they put in the olive oil is amazing. The servers are attentive and they have a lot of great menu options. I have been satisfied with every entree I've tried. Good wine selection too! -

Years have passed since I last went to Pizza Capri. During days long gone, I used to order any one of their specialty pizza and was always satisfied thoroughly when I did. Recently took a high school classmate to Pizza Capri and I tried the shrimp arrabbiata. Hello, lover! While the arrabbiata was not as spicy as I usually would have it, the flavours were perfect and the shrimp was plump.
Great service, great food, and a nice price considering how much food my classmate and I ordered, I would say that Pizza Capri retained the charm that kept me coming back years ago. Bravo. -

This place is cute except for the paper table clothes, YUCK!
My server was very attentive, but he kept sneaking and drinking alcoholic beverages behind the bar when he thought we weren't looking.
Other than that, the food was great. The olive oil & herbs were AMAZZINGG!!!!

We ordered from Pizza Capri on the suggestion of a friend who enjoys their pizza. It was late on a Saturday night - shortly before closing - but they took our order (charging an extra fee since we were a bit farther away that they usually go to) and delivered in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the veggie pizza, but subbed out the onions and eggplant and got pepperoni and sausage instead (nice, right? LOL!)
I was surprised to find that the marinara was on the bottom, then the toppings, and then cheese. That made for a not-so-cheesy pizza, but it was still good and really fresh. You could also really taste the robust flavor of the veggies which were firm and not soggy - hard to do with broccoli and spinach. The bread too was firm, not doughy, but I would have liked it a little softer. All in all - it was good, but not great. Like eating a pizza from a better sbarro or something. I guess the fact that I even mention sbarro at all in comparison should tell you that this pizza isn't a masterpiece, but it will definitely hit the spot if you are hungry.Listed in: Chicago, PIzza (Chicago)

I once ate here with a close friend YML. I like the olive oil with herbs on the table for bread dipping! The waitress asked us whether we want more bread, we answered "no" just because we're kinda shy.... the pizza is OK. And I felt embarrassed when a piece of pizza fell off the shovel and landed on my friend's cellphone . Oops...

Love Pizza Capri. They deliver....their food is fresh and tasty. There are not that many choices to choose from in Hyde Park besides Medici and
Z & H but this is one that is great for take out or delivery of salads-love their salads & sandwiches. They have a lot more to choose from. The staff doesn't have any chip on the shoulder attitude. Very friendly and there is sure to have something for everyone here. I think they need to do a renovation of Pizza Capri though and open up the entire restaurant so it has huge windows and more natural light and is more modern looking. The inside is a bit dated. They will have to up this aspect if they want to compete in the future places to come. -

Breakfast & brunch is served here on the weekends...
I was getting a haircut @ Hyde Park Barber Studio and realized I was hungry. I wanted something egg based and could not think of another place that served breakfast in the area other than the original Pancake House and I did not want to go there. I asked my barber and he told me Pizza Capri could fulfill my request. After my haircut, I drove over and luckily found a parking space that did not require me to pay a fare box.
Walked in and told the host I heard they served a good breakfast so he handed me the menu. The veggie omelet immediately caught my eye. It had broccoli, mushrooms, cheese and asparagus and of course I got the egg white version. The meal came with wheat toast and home fries...yum! Drove my ass home to Lincoln Park and devoured the dish. Really good and it was still warm! I definitely want to go there and sit down and eat, but today wasn't the day. I actually would like to try some of their pizza at some point actually. I heard its pretty goodListed in: Best Breakfast/Brunch, Paying Homage to one of my…

Ate here twice. Each time service was good, but afterwards I felt like everything hadn't been worth the total of the bill. Like it wasn't good enough for the money. Now I drive to Little Italy and go to Franchesca's. Or we go to The Sit Down. -

Hands down one of the best (if not the best) restaurants in Hyde Park. Their selection of food is varied but not too overwhelming. I've enjoyed almost every dish that I've ordered and never had any issues with the staff. Not only that but the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is welcoming and adds immensely to the dining experience. Although I don't drink the wine much others have enjoyed it, and I think their beer selection is good as well. Sometimes the prices can be a bit much, but then again you can see into the kitchen and so you know you're not getting something quickly reheated.
Certainly recommended if you're coming into Hyde Park and looking for a somewhat upscale dining experience without the actual upscale prices or atmosphere. It can get busy sometimes so be prepared for a wait if there's a large group. -

It's the nicest restaurant in Hyde Park. I like the olive oil as an appetizer and the deep dish is OK but I prefer the Giordano's for stuffed pizza.

I was excited to find a place in Hyde Park that made gluten-free pizza (and it's decent!)
The low ranking comes from the actual experience that is Pizza Capri.
The first time I dined there our server was utterly horrible, letting water glasses sit unfilled even after we requested them to be filled, leaving us alone for extended periods of time, and overall just bad service.
What tipped the scales is the fact that this evening I ordered pizza for pick-up and walked over with just my credit card and keys, which is what I always do.
I was asked for my ID, to which I replied, "you've never asked me for it before". The girls behind the counter then gave me attitude and said, "we always ask" - despite my having picked up a pizza from one of them without showing my id a week prior.
If you're going to have a policy, that's fine. But put it on your website or inform people who phone in orders.
So I told them I wasn't going home to get an ID, and they cancel my order. I've got another year in Hyde Park and plan to spend it ensuring -

Great food, love the bread and herb infused oil. I enjoyed the chicken marsala dish with potatoes and peas, with a side of angel hair pasta. It was great. Also, they have a huge selection of wine.

I love Pizza Capri.
The choice is always between Pizza Capri and Medici. I like hanging out at Medici more, but I think the pizza at Pizza Capri is so much better.
The atmosphere at Pizza Capri is so odd. There are these really old fashioned lace curtains on the windows, and it's often a little dark. It doesn't seem like a place that had good food. Each time I bring a friend here I worry that this will be the time the food sucks, but Pizza Capri always stands up and gives us great food.
First of all, this place is very friendly to vegetarians, with several pizzas with interesting ingredients that are meat free. Most places just have a single veggie pizza and an option to pick your own toppings. But here they have the "Shroom" pizza, with three different kinds of mushrooms and chunks of gorgonzola, the "Zorba" with goat cheese and roasted red peppers, and a few others.
Their pizza is a bit on the salty side (like most pizza) but it's not too greasy, which is why I love it. I think they're a bit expensive (maybe $2 or $3), but at the end of the day I'm happy to pay a few more bucks for something that won't disappoint.
Their apps, and their grilled calamari in particular, are also great. -

Until our children reached homework age, and going out to dinner on a school night was impossible, we typically went to Pizza Capri at least once a week. We've lived in Hyde Park 25+ years, and though I don't remember when Pizza Capri opened, we went there from the start, and continue to go whenever possible.
The food is predictably good, the staff pleasant and efficient. The owner, Max, makes you feel at home, and appears to keep a very watchful eye on the entire operation.
Truly one of Hyde Park's best restaurants. -

Just recently I moved to Hyde Park from Seattle,WA and was a little nervous to try new food in the area because I'm not too open minded about trying new food places. I know what I like and I usually stick to that. So when my boyfriend suggested this place I was a bit on the skeptical side but decided to give it a try. He and I both have different pizza tastes so we decided to order two different pizzas. I don't recall if we got two medium or two large pizzas. He got sausage and I got pepperoni, and we got two lemonades it cost us around $42 with tax and delivery. When the delivery guy came, he only had one lemonade but said they would credit us for the missing beverage. The pizza was excellent! My boyfriend and I both tried each other's pizza and loved both. Both pizzas were gone within' a day and a half. I was really happy that we ordered from this place and I prefer them to Giordanos hands down. Will definitely be ordering from here again.

When I order delivery from this place, they have the quick delivery... for Hyde Park. (Though they have forgotten items of my order at times.) And when you go to the restaurant, the inside is so warm, cosy, and surprisingly a LOT of seating. The wait staff is attentive, and the food yummy. Their pastas, seafood, and even pizzas are in generous portions. May favorite thing about dining in is the bread they bring you at your table when you are first seated. Not only is it good, but the Herb Infused Olive Oil that the waiter pours for you is the most addicting thing I've run across in quite a while. YUM! Go for yourself and see. In Hyde Park there are few places that are of quality- Pizza Capri is good QUALITY!
Beware that parking may be scarce. the best place is if you drive around back of the Starbucks acros sthe street, there's a huge lot there. -

Lovely little spot in the middle of Hyde Park, though even better to order in from when you want a nice hearty meal and don't feel like cooking. I've had all of the appetizers, and they've never let me down. For an entree I'd recommend the gnocci or the chicken marsala. The tortellini is also good. I've never actually had pizza from here because the pasta and meat dishes are just so good! They lose a star on price--everything should cost about 10% less. It's just far too much to ask any Hyde Parker to pay. If we're in the mood to spend money on food, we'll just go downtown.
However, when the weather is nice, they have outdoor seating, which makes this one of the few restaurants in Hyde Park that I can bring my dog to. We don't have enough sidewalk cafes in HP, so thumbs up on that. -

I've lived in Hyde Park for about 3 years now, and in this neighborhood, Pizza Capri is as good as it gets. We've tried many of their salads, pasta dishes, and pizzas, and my husband and I have never thought that anything was truly bad; some dishes are just better than others. Our favorites are the gnocchi and the lucky ginger linguine. I love that they have many options for those of us who aren't meat eaters. We usually get take out here a few times a month.
When we actually go in to the restaurant, the service has always been friendly and attentive. They make sure our water glasses are full and they always ask if we'd like a refill on our beverages, more bread, etc. It's never too loud for conversation. Some might describe the decor as a little strange, with the lace curtains coupled with a mural of a creepy (in my opinion) boy painted on the wall. But the food is excellent, as is the service. -

This place just has solid (unimaginative, but tasty) Italian-American food. A bit overpriced in my opinion, but it's consistent- they have a few items on the menu that are really good, and the pizza is always really fresh and delicious.
The manager seems to genuinely care about the customers- whenever there's a wait (and the past few times I've been at dinner, there was a 15-20 minute wait, which is reasonable) he brings out a pizza and serves it to those waiting for a table. The little touches like that really make me feel like I'm a valued customer.
I've never been to the other Pizza Capri locations, but this one is pretty great. Definitely worth stopping by for a solid weeknight dinner (or order the pizza- you will not be disappointed).Listed in: Hyde Park Doesn't Suck!

In my opinion, this is one of the best places to eat in Hyde Park. The decor is cute, the food is high quality and dependable, and it's pretty affordable. I usually get the Rotini Tuscany (pasta with all kinds of fresh veggies), or the Popeye Penne (pasta with a rich Alfredo-type sauce and fresh spinach) if I'm in the mood for a splurge. And I LOVE the grilled calamari appetizer-- it seems to change seasonally, but it's always deliciously charred, with just the right amount of acidity.
I'm not a huge fan of the fact that their menu looks like it was printed on a home computer 10 years ago, and it bugs me that they have guacamole on the menu but, other than that, I think it's great. -

Hyde Park has a colossal deficit in good restaurants and Pizza Capri is another example of that, although everything wasn't awful.
Pros:
The olive oil with herbs on the table for dipping is quite nice. The bread can be good, when it is fresh.
The food is consistently OK, just never impressive or memorable.
Street parking is normally possible.
Cons:
There were four at our table. The waitress took one person's drink order and literally walked away without warning for an unknown reason. About five minutes later she returned with another party's food order, delivered it to their table, and then came back to our table to finish the order. Totally unacceptable service.
I asked for a minor modification and was told it will only happen if the chef wants to do it. Of course, he didn't.
The prices are just too high for the quality of the ingredients, composition of the plates, skill level required to prepare them and the schizo service. Their claim is that they make everything from scratch. I make pizza from scratch, too. It tastes much better and is cheaper. And the prices of the wine, for the quality and selection, would be laughable if they weren't so outlandish. The wine glasses are hideously unattractive, as well: the stems are too short, the bulb too narrow, and the overall height too low.
Though this was my first dinner visit, I have been here quite a few times for lunch (I work in Hyde Park) and the quality and service is no different at lunch, either. -

I've tried this place a few times over the years, and it's been consistently meh. During my latest trip, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Salad, since a Pizza Capri salad was new territory for me. How bad could it be?
I ordered the large, and it was large, but the giant bowl was filled with mostly lettuce. There were a couple of tablespoons of corn & black beans and tomato mixed in with the lettuce, but not nearly enough. Also included was one of those produce stickers that you would normally peel off of a tomato BEFORE slicing it. On top of the lettuce was a large portion of tender chicken strips (points for that), but it was doused in strong BBQ sauce. The flavor did not work well with the lettuce, corn, black beans, & tomato. In addition, the dressing included was Ranch. I read that on the menu and wondered about it, but figured that Pizza Capri knew what they were doing with that pairing & that maybe I had something to learn. Now I know better.
If you're hungry for good food, skip Pizza Capri and go down the block to Rajun Cajun (or to Giordano's when it reopens). -
Review from Brent W.
What an absolute load of crap this place is from a service / value standpoint. I recently ordered from Capri for a small in-service presentation I gave at a Physician's office down on Michigan and 55th.
I ordered two "Family Size" pizza's which were in all actuality 16" (not v big for "family size", imo) and a Large pizza (which i downsized from a 'family size' but yet they still got it wrong on the bill). The Total for the THREE (3) pizza's ALONE = $71.45 !!!!! They then tacked a TEN ($10) DELIVERY CHARGE on top of that, without saying a word. The grand total, hold tight = $81.45 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for *3 pizza's* that's caahrraaaazy talk!
When I called to question the bill and delivery charge, the manager said that it was "catered" and that's why the delivery charge was $10. I told him that I only ordered 3 pizza's, it most certainly was NOT catered (which I never asked for it to be) as that would entail including plates, napkins, plastic utensils, etc.. and none of that was included. He said that this location is the 'catering' location and that's the charge for that area...at the end of it all, he credited my card $5 for the mistake on the wrong pizza size and called it a day.
What a fucking outrage, the delivery charge aside (as I was told that goes to the delivery driver and i'm all about that) but the cost of the 3 pizza's totaling over $70 is laughable.Listed in: Uhh, yea, that'd be a "no go"

I've just reviewed about 12 pizza places and I'm hungry for some...but tonight I'm in the Hyde Park area, where pizza options seem to be few and far between. Well, I'm trying to lay off the carbs anyway so that's probably for the best. But I digress.
Someone said Pizza Capri is really a great place. Ah...I was lied to. I liked the fact that I could order online but there wasn't much of a benefit to that because I needed to pretty much go through the whole ordering process all over again when I went to pick it up.
The mixed baby green salad was not good. The roasted pecans were kind of soggy, making me think they premake a bunch of salads and serve them up hours later. Not too fresh.
The pizza was an utter disappointment. I can barely remember it.
On the whole, don't bother.Listed in: I'm Hungry for Pizza Again

To be honest, I have never set foot inside Pizza Capri, but my roommate's parents order from here every Friday and sometimes they invite us over. Being a broke grad student, I am always happy to attend.
Their deep dish is really good, but I have never been that impressed with the thin crusted pizza's. Doesn't taste much better then a frozen pizza to me. Pizza Capri has some really excellent pasta dishes. My favorite is a pasta with salmon in a bechamel sauce. Apparently, if you are in the know, you can order things that aren't actually on the menu. I am not in the know, by my roommate's parents are.
Maybe someday I will actually visit the place itself. My roommate swears by them. She even wants them to cater her wedding. I say, as long as she doesn't serve the thin crust pizza, then guest will have to be rolled home. -

They are open late; their food is good; their bread is AMAZING. Need I say more?
OK, I will. The boy was much happier with Pizza Capri than he was with Cholie's, because he is some sort of weird pizza snob, so he appreciated having the freedom to order something other than pizza (chicken marsala) while I ordered pizza (pizza). Apparently he liked his chicken. I wouldn't know how it was because I didn't try it because I was afraid it would taste like chicken, and I don't like chicken that tastes too much like chicken.
My pizza was good, though. It didn't change my life, but it was pretty darn good. The bread may have changed my life though, it was so so so good, and we kept eating it and eating it and eating it, and they will just refill it indefinitely for you if you don't tell them to STOP! So that was cool.
All in all, it was pretty expensive considering you could just go to Cholie's and get a couple slices for a buck seventy-five each, but the boy was much happier here, so... hurrah! -

I don't actually like going to pizza capri. But, I really like ordering the food to take out.
All the window seats are rather drafty-why should I feel cold there no matter which season it is? Either they are on the edge of a parallel universe, which is entirely possible given the physics reasearch at the university, or they just have poor HVAC.
Either way, the pesto and shrimp pizza, or the potato and chicken pizza have my undying love. I haven't had great success with the pasta dishes. Stick with the variety of pizzas-although if you are looking for the "typical" sauce-cheese-topping stuff, go someplace else.Listed in: Life PRN, Top Restaurants

Pizza Capri can be a bit addictive. The Hyde Park location is one of my favorite restaurants in the area.
The pasta is what really shines and keeps me coming back. The tequila-lime chicken fettuccine is by far my favorite, and the portions are generous enough that I can make more than one meal out of it.
The pizza is good tho not great, with things like 'Thai pie' and BBQ blast' being better than the more traditional offerings.
The wine list is a bit limited, but what they have is not bad.
My experience has been that Pizza Capri uses fresh, quality ingredients and is consistent from one visit to the next. The service is polite and accommodating, and the atmosphere is warm and conducive to conversation. Delivery is usually quick, even on weekend nights.
Over all: Love it but recommend it more for the pasta, salads and such than for the pizza. -

I read great reviews of this place and was really looking forward to the "thin and crispy" pizza. I will begin by saying that i appreciate when restaurants offer complimentary bread with herb-infused oil. It's almost as if they are inviting you to just let go and revel in the carbohydrate craze that is Italian food. And the bread and oil here were delicious. I ate too much.
Loved my Indian Spice hot tea. Ordered the "thin and crispy" pizza. Cheese with Sundried Tomatoes. Kind of a catch 22 experience. The crust was thin, but NOT crispy... until I got to the crust. Kinda anticlimactic, but okay. On the other hand, the Sundried Tomatoes, as a topping, come with capers and garlic. They threw me off because I didn't order them, so I had to ask because I hate being the table that gets the food that another table ordered. The capers and garlic definitely enhance the flavor to make a richer experience.
I was kind of wondering what was actually underneath the paper tablecloth. Had that been cleaned recently?
Good and quick service. Good food. Good experience overall. -

This review concerns only their service for large catered orders.
I frequently helped order food for student events at the University of Chicago. For catered food, I believe that Pizza Capri is strictly inferior to Giordano's, which should be reopening soon. I recommend against Pizza Capri: if you want more expensive gourmet pizza for an event, call Giordano's (very competent at large 30+ pizza orders) or Edwardo's (for smaller orders).
Pizza Capri is some of the most expensive pizza you can buy, but in any sizable lunchtime order (10+ pizzas), they tend to arrive stale and dry. I'm not sure if this is the fault of delivery, or from preparation for their in-house lunch rush, but they can't seem to deliver a batch of decent pizzas at noon to save their lives.
They do offer one kickback though--literally. Large catered orders come with an un-invoiced bottle of wine. If you don't want the wine, you can contact Pizza Capri to get a small discount from your bill. If you're honest, this can save your organization like $20. If not--hey--this is Chicago. -

Pizza Capri is the only place to get decent Italian food in Hyde Park. While their ambiance is lacking (creepy mural of a little boy on the wall?), the food is always satisfying when a pasta craving hits and I don't feel like going downtown/paying a lot. In fact, their gnocchi with vodka sauce tastes better to me (admittedly I'm not Italian-food connoisseur) than the gnocchi at the famed, over-hyped Volare. If you're in Hyde Park, I would recommend stopping by.

For an upscale pizza place...not bad. I really liked the different range of toppings on pizza (how about apples and onions?). And the pizza crust is crisp and delicious. It's not too oily, but deliciously baked!
I do like their pastas as well. Their spinach raviolis and penne bolognese are fantastic. Not the best, but they'll definitely satisfy hunger. They go well with the garlic bread. The price is decent for the food you're getting. -

This place is very nice. I almost forgot I was in Hyde Park where some areas can be skecthy.
Its a place to take a date or your parents. The food is probably priced exaclty right for what you get, the atmosphere, the really good staff, and the food.
I had the Chicken piccata with a white wine, which was an excellent combination.
I assume during school the place is packed with students who are maxing out credit cards.
Plus its easy to get to right off the Metra or several bus lines. -

went here last night for dinner and got the chicken salad and 2 pizzas for 5 people. we got the small thin crust hawaiian with half also with anchoives and a chicago style with tomatoes, sausage and mushrooms. I thought it was ok but not great. I've had better pizza. I think they are a bit pricey too.
I think our waiter also sighed while taking our order too which was a bit annoying. However, the rest of the time the service was good. Our water was always full and the guys were very helpful with taking a pciture for us. -

The carry-out:
A sandwich, a wrap, a deep dish pizza. The cheap items.
All fresh, all well-composed. The cheese on the pizza is thick and slightly pungent.

I'd really like to give it 3 1/2 stars. 3 for the pizza delivery, and 4 for the restaurant experience.
Solid, decent pizza with a great deal of variety, but nothing particularly special. I do enjoy the Thai pizza and I'd recommend it for people who enjoy Thai food. I'm especially disappointed that they don't have a supreme pizza unless you want to pay for each topping, which adds up quickly. The closest they have (the "Almost Gourmet") only has sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms. It's one of the few pizza places in Hyde Park, which makes it ideal if you live or work at the U of Chicago.
If you're really in the mood for good, standard pizza, there are certainly better places in Chicago if you don't mind commuting.
I definitely give it higher marks as a restaurant. They have a great variety of Italian food that is priced appropriately for the quality and portions. It's a good place for a date or hanging out with friends, and it's frequented by U of Chicago students and employees.
