Okay, so after my last update, I came here twice. Once on a weekday and the other on the weekend. I have to say it was a much better experience. Service greatly improved and food quality was what I was used to. Although, I would like more mussel meat then shells. Thanks Pizza Antica for improving your service and food! I'm glad that I can once again enjoy my favorite restaurant!

Also, to our waiter that was not only dressed as a geek but also acted and walked like one for Halloween...your costume was AWESOME!

Totally worth the wait; anytime of day/weekend/evening.  We have been here more times that I want to admit, and we'll keep going back for sure.

The thin, almost crispy (around edges) crust, and the super-fresh ingredients are fantastic.  What is even more impressive, is the marinara; one of the best I have had to date.  Every time (but once...we had some kind of a potato pizza BS; not too sure why we ordered that...maybe the drinks on the Row before we went??) we have been here, we always go away happy.

Our only complaint is the kinda small (and not that great) wine list, and the fact that the fried artichoke appetizer isn't on the menu permanently.

My friends have been trying to get me to go here for a while and I have a general no "pretentious pizza place" rule, especially if there is a line, but I think after this I am going to change my mind. The pizza was actually delicious (sausage and mushroom) and the service was pretty good. We also got a caesar salad which came with whole romaine lettuce leaves and croutons (I think in-house made) which I ended up liking better than the pizza.

If there was anything I might comment negatively about would be the seating, I could see why people might be annoyed at having to sit so close to other parties especially because their seating is predominantly a long bench seat going along the wall with chairs on the opposite side of the table.

p.s. wow! I just got a message in response to this review by the manager (hardcore), they did confirm that all of their dressings are made in house and as for the seating, they said we could request something different. Just for a response to a review, I'm bumping them up a star for customer service!

Unbelievably bad service at Pizza Antica. Imagine coming to eat on a Friday night in Santana Row and being told that you can put your name down on the waiting list and stroll around to the different shops while you wait. Sounded pretty cool to my friends and me. The hostess said the wait should be about 30 minutes so we decided not to go over to any other dining spots to check wait times.

We stroll around and come back only to be asked by the same hostess if we had put our names down on the waiting list. Wow. Really? We just had a 5 minute conversation with you about walking around and coming back. Now we are just checking on the progress of our wait time, you freaking putz.

Oh, what's that you say? The wait will be about 30 minutes? Isn't that what you said 30 minutes ago?

By this time, other dining spots were all packed so it was either stay and wait or try to get on a waiting list somewhere else on a Friday evening. So my friends and I decide to get some drinks at the bar and hang out there while the incompetent host staff continue to tell us that it'll only be a little longer.

Fast forward and hour and a half and 3 drinks a piece and we waited a total of 2 hours to be seated. The most awesome part about it is that we saw several empty tables (that stayed empty for a good half hour) inside while people were still waiting outside.

Oh and the table next to us? They were seated an hour and a half earlier and got their food after my friends and I did. Needless to say, that table skipped the check and left $1 on the table. Overpaying if you ask me.

I will admit that I think the pizza is quite good. But it's definitely not worth the trouble when there are many alternatives in the area.

Would have hit up Falafel Drive in if they were still open.

After some heavy-duty shopping in Santana Row during my recent visit to California, my wonderful daughters and I headed to Pizza Antica. No wait at 2 p.m. or so. We ordered a chopped salad; a pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and mushrooms (ok. So I'm not adventuresome.); and an heirloom potato, caramelized onion and white truffle oil pie. Am not used to having a thin-crust pizza, but both were superb. I only intended to eat a couple of slices, but I surpassed that amount. Still, there were about 5 or 6 slices of pie left on our plates--perfect for yummy leftovers for my daughter and future son-in-law.

The waiter was friendly and took our order promptly, but the pies took a while to get to our table. I thought the pies were a little pricey, considering the size of the servings, but prices on the West Coast seem generally higher than those in Boston and suburbs.

I would definitely want to return, and maybe next time, I'll go outside of my comfort zone by ordering something more unique.

I love you Pizza Antica. I love your thin crust pizza. I usually get cheese with tomato and mushroom. I've tried the ceasar salad and it's pretty standard. I've also had the bruschetta appetizer, I didn't like the bread but the topping itself was really delicious. I will be back

Simple good quality pizzas in an clean atmosphere.

Cost to worth it rating: 3
Return worthiness: yes

Highlights:
- Margarita pizza: lots of strips of basil (my complaint with most is there isn't enough), no grease, fresh-tasting, thin crust.
- Salad: liked the addition of a heap of toasted pine nuts
- Gnocchi: bigger than I'm used to with strong potato flavor similar to a pirogi. I liked the bit of pan fried crisp and loved the shaved slices of cheese. Only knock is it could've used more pesto and sauce in general, as there was just a wee bit under the pile o pasta.
- Wines: for small menu lots by glass and 2 specials by the glass each night

Lowlights:
- Can get crazy crowded on weekends for a long wait and hostesss have been known to sport attitudes
- Server was great but got held up a few times with lots of other tables

Works in a pinch when you're craving more authentic Italian-style pizza and you can't get up to the city for A16.

So, I didn't actually eat any of the pizza here therefore I can't comment on that - but my taste buds busted 2309482309482309 nuts for the amazing, amazing bruschetta.

First of all, it isn't the slabs of hard bread and bowl of chopped up tomatoes/onions/cilantro/basil (essentially Italian SALSA) that one would normally expect when ordering bruschetta. It is described on the menu as consisting of burrata (a fresh Italian cheese), kale, extra virgin olive oil and sea salt, and comes 3 pieces per plate. At $10.95 per order it is quite pricey, but the highly addictive flavors and textures that assault the senses would definitely justify the price.

I had two orders. I would know.

Goes great with the strawberry-mint lemonade :)

The front door staff is so incompetent, it's a wonder this restaurant survives. They could probably enjoy an additional 30% of diners if they weren't so slow, unaware of their surroundings and completely uncaring of the people that are waiting 2 hours for a table (after being told that it would only be a 30 minute wait - after calling in an additional 30 minutes ahead of time).

The food was pretty good - agree that the potato pizza was tasty - and prices are reasonable, but this place was definitely not worth the overall experience.

Had Pizza Antica for dinner a couple nights ago, and here are 3 things I think you should know:

                   1.)  A large was 8 slices...and with thin crust,
that's about enough to fill 2 decently hungry
                   people.

2.) A small beer is less than a pint, and a
large is a pint. They use fancy beer glasses so
they don't actually tell you the size in a
familiar way... "Small...about 10 oz or so..." Uhhh
so its less than a can?

3.) Pizza descriptions are misleading... Ours
supposedly should have had pancetta and
caramelized onions, but it was pretty much just
                   a ton of shaved broccoli.

I do like the flavors here...And though I'm a fatty at heart, I do enjoy the thin crust here too. Though this place isn't the best pizza in the world, it is my favorite restaurant around Santana Row, and when I leave this place after a nice little dinner, I feel the least ripped off by my dining experience.

That doesn't say too much,  because if you have ever read my Santana Row reviews I pretty much say everything is a huge rip, but this place is all about the convenience of being able to eat at the Row. Slice of New York down Stevens Creek is better and cheaper...

Could it get any better?

The summer BLT salad will soon be gone, but just thinking about it makes my mouth water. A light honey mustard dressing over greens, eggs, bacon (or chicken which I prefer) tomatoes..put that over their famous piadini = heaven. I can't eat there enough.

Pair it with a small or large, (leftovers are even better) margarita pizza, an iced tea with the beautiful Santana row scenery and you get a perfect afternoon lunch.

Minus the small amount of wait time for a table outside, the service and taste makes up for it all!

Most people say that Santana Row is completely overrated.  Pizza Antica.........falls into that very category.

However, amidst all the 'OMG Santana Row' mumbo-jumbo,  I'll have to say that it was pretty good food.  Me and Samantha R split a large pizza and had a beer each; perfect portions.

But so far, this is one of my more-liked restaurants in Satan Row.  I guess, when deemed necessary, I will venture back for some thin-crust Pizzas (Theres no 'T' in pizza, why do we pronounce it with one?)

Hi Yelpers,

I'm back, but not satisfied with my latest pizza experience. After being on hiatus for about a month of only fruit and veggies, I desperately wanted to gorge myself on my favorite hobby: eating pizza. I stroll into Pizza Antica on a Monday, Monday people...no Friday or Saturday where you may consider the rush of people an acceptable means to lower the quality of the food cause you have no time.

BUT, it was bland, at best. It was a cracker with hunt's tomato sauce, a large was a domino's small and left me hungry after. Oh, did I mention I got the tomato basil and the large was over $15? Where did all the Cici's pizza buffets for $5.99 go?

Anyway, that sums up the pizza. As for the service, our server was lucky to have gotten 15%. I was feeling generous, allthewhile hungry. She was very curt and rude. I think I saw her smile once...maybe she farted in the corner and briefly enjoyed the release. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I recently enjoyed lunch here on a very busy weekday.

Our table shared the Heirloom Potato, Caramelized Onion and White Truffle Oil Pizza.  This was an unusual pizza, but was delicious.  The crust was thin and crisp and the flavors were lovely and subtle.  I also tried a bite of the Potato and Ricotta Gnocchi, which had a nice texture and lovely browned crust.

I'm knocking off one star because the salad was terrible.  I had a plain salad and it was flavorless and boring.  It was like they forgot to put any vinegar in the dressing.  Other people at my table had the Caesar Salad and they seemed to enjoy that.

Heirloom Potato, Caramelized Onion and White Truffle Oil Pizza FTW!

The pizza here was very delicious! I like these pizza joints that serve topping combinations that are not your typical pepperoni/sausage/etc pizzas.

We ordered the Heirloom Potato, Caramelized Onion and White Truffle Oil Pizza, and it was great! The herbs on the potato, the sweetness of the onions, and the flavor of truffle oil blend very well together. The crust was a bit floppy, though, and requires the NY-style "fold" to eat the pizza. I personally would prefer a crunchier crust, but it definitely wasn't bad at all.

The waiter was telling us that their menu changes every so often -- they pick seasonal ingredients to use on their pizzas, so I'll have to try some of their other pizzas the next time I come here.

alrighty. i finally came here after #svtweetup one night and ate gnocchi and lamb.

the gnocchi were huge pillows of potato and ricotta in a cream pesto-like sauce.  lines may have been a little blurred- a whirlwind of a night.  however, they were quite satisfying- but not as satisfying as little tiptoe-sized pillows of happiness such as the ones at plumed horse in saratoga.

the lamb was eh eh eh.  it just wasn't exciting tasting, lacking of much flavor, however the presentation was nice. the pan fried polenta that came with the dish was alright as well.  the mandarin orange and fennel salad provided humorous flavor. sweet, spicy, uniqe.

hrm. the vegetable platter at the beginning was okay.  the corn excited me- unique flavour.  ah, what enticed me about this dish was the crispy foccacia and housemade mozzarella.

sliced peaches with muscato sabayon for dessert. basically peaches and thick cream.

i don't know. menu sounded sexy.  but the dishes were just okay.  it was hotter to read.

so i'm thinking next time, since this IS called PIZZA antica, i shall try the pizza?  a lot of exotic things to try.  will report back.

Yes, I am a big fan. Although they have pastas and steak, they are known for their pizza. If you thin crusts, then you will love Pizza Antica. You can also create your own toppings and the prices is decent. A large pizza can feed 2 people. If you go on a Friday or weekend, make sure you go early. The waitlist can take up to 30-60min.

This is the only place on Santana Row I've ever actually *wanted* to eat but never did until recently.  I saw the review talking about the potato, caramelized onion, and white truffle oil pizza, and since we were in the area we went here and I tried it.

It was definitely worth the $10-ish pricetag for the 10" or so sized Small.  I love the very thin crust that was baked properly.  I loved the potato and onion and truffle oil.  I also loved my wife's plain ol margherita pizza and strawberry mint lemonade.  The mozarella and tomato salad was superb too, possibly my favorite part of the meal. The warm chocolate tart was not warm, but the whipped cream was delicious.

Our server, I actually saved the receipt to put his name here but recently threw it away (John?  Josh?)  was real nice and definitely a good server.  I think he had some problem customers and it made me realize that working on Santana Row could either be great because the prices are so high and the clientele has deep pockets, or it could be horrible because that same clientele probably thinks they're better than 99% of the world and if you take 2 seconds too long to get their drink orders in they might stiff you.  But that was just an observation as a fellow waiter.  Either way it was good service, good food, and a nice lunch for a Tuesday afternoon.  The only thing I didn't like was the bill!

To die for: Heirloom Potato, Caramelized Onion and White Truffle Oil Pizza.

Also delicious was their basic tomato sauce and cheese pizza.
Great summer drinks--our favorite is the strawberry mint lemonade.
However, the lemon semifreddo was like a giant scoop of fancy icecream that was $5. No thanks.
Service is just okay, but really, the pizza makes up for it.

P.S. Neighboring table changed their mind on their wine choice after it had been poured (but not served)...the waiter just poured it back into the bottle. Foul? I wouldn't know, I don't do wine.

I have to admit Ive had much better pizza from Mountain Mike's no joke! My pizza was extremely greasy and oily! Perhaps it was the pepperoni, but I expected much more from this place as I read the reviews before I experienced it. I would give it a 2nd chance, but I wont be ordering anything with pepperoni on it. The service was pretty good and that is why I gave it 3 stars.

I must tell you that I absolutely love this place for lunch!  Although I don't have VIP status here and I have to wait for at least 20 minutes like everyone else, I really don't mind since the food is so good.  I am a creature of habit so I always order the same thing:

1. sparkling lemonade-nothing beats the original becuase I have tried still water instead of the carbonated water and added strawberry to the mix as well.

2. ceasar salad topped with grilled chicken on top of a piadini.
This salad is better than the Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Chopped Salad with Croutons,Hard Cooked Egg and Dijon Vinaigrette or the Young Field Greens with Fresh Herbs and Toasted Pinenuts. If you are not hungry, ordering a salad will satisfy you.

3.gnocchi which is a homemade potatoe dumpling served with a dry pesto sauce and sundried tomatoe cream.  It is truly the best gnocchi I have ever had ...even better than the ones at Acquerello in San Francisco (2008 Michelin Guide 1 star restaurant)  which is my favorite Italian restuarant.

4. bacon, arugula, sweet corn pizza with extra fennel sausage or
Spicy Fennel Sausage, Portobello Mushroom and Roasted Onion.
I started ordering the Arugula pizza after I tasted the best thin crust pizza in the world at Tommaso Ristorante Italiano in San Francisco last month.  The only thing that I don't like on their pizza menu is:
Grilled Radicchio, Local Goat Cheese, Pancetta and Pesto.  It is so bitter!  The last time I was there I saw a little girl eating it and I was wondering how her innocent taste bud had acquired such a foreign taste.

Although they have 4 locations I have only been to the one at Santana Row:

I've eaten here 3 or 4 times (I would eat here at least once a week if I didn't live down in Gilroy) and LOVE IT!!!  It's true - authentic Italian thin crust pizza.  And when we're not drinking wine with our pizza (rare, but it happens)  we love that they have options besides Coke (& the like) and iced tea.  The Black Currant Soda is excellent!!!  They make it to order and it's slightly tart; not syrupy-over-the-top sweet.

We've ordered the Spicy Fennel Sausage with Mozzarella, Red Peppers and Onions Pizza twice.  The last time we also added greek olives and fresh tomatoes and LOVED every bite.  It's one of the few times I actually make sure I have my equal share vs letting my husband eat more then me.   The tomato sauce has this slight, but perfectly balanced sweetness to it that I really wish I could figure out how to make at home.

I'd love to try the pastas or meats on the menu because I'm sure they are just as delicious, but I just can't get enough of the pizza!!!

I'm a deep dish pizza girl and love fluffy crusts. This restaurant has not quite converted me into a thin crust pizza lover, but it does give me a better feeling of not being too full and feeling like a fat pig when I can actually finish half of a large pizza here. 4 pizzas in a sitting with a group of 5:

-Tomato Sauce, housemade mozzarella and fresh basil: Typical, nothing overly exciting to note. A great vegetarian or more health conscious option.

- Sweet Corn, arugula, bacon (I switched this to chicken), and Basil: The slight bitterness of the arugula was complemented with the sweet corn. Delicious and light, kind of like a salad on top of pizza. It made me feel healthier with all the arugula on this pizza. *FAVORITE*

- Three Cheeses, shaved broccoli, caramelized onion and pancetta: Pretty good. Not as much broccoli as I would have liked, I could barely see/taste it.

-Spicy calabrese sausage, onions, peppers and parsley: Not spicy at all, but it tasted very good.

I love all their pizzas, they all have different ingredients that complement each other well when mixed together. A large is not overly big and sufficient to share.  Only menial thing to note, I didn't like the slightly black burnt parts on the edges of my crusts. Other than that,  I was so full, but very satisfied with our choices.

When I'm craving a super thin-crust pizza I go here...

Had lunch with 2 of my kickboxing buddies here today and forgot how good their pizza tasted.  I usually order the #4 (sauage, portobella mushrooms, onions) and it hit the spot. It was on the oily side, but what pizza isn't?  Nothing like what you would get at other pizza joints where you're using 5 napkins to pat it dry, though...

Highlight of the day was seeing a dude dressed as a cowboy with thigh-high cowboy boots. NO JOKE!  There are some interesting people walking down the Santana Row strip I tell you.  That made my day... LMAO!

One of my favorite restaurants along Santana Row. The pizza is a really great thin crust without too much cheese and crap that your usual pizzeria piles on. This makes for a great meal to share that wont completely throw you off your diet or break the bank. Their soups are also very good.

On popular nights it's entertaining to sit outside and do some people watching. There are some really interesting people hanging out along Santana Row.

I  mostly don't get the hype.  Like most restaurants in Santana Row, this one caters to well-heeled women with a lot of time and money on their hands and I don't fit that demographic.

The pricing at first blush appears reasonable (say $16-18 for a "large" pizza) but then the pizza arrives and it's the smallest "large" pizza on the planet, barely topped with cheese or anything else, and thin as a cracker.  On my second visit here, we thought about having a caprese, about $10 as I recall, but passed, only to see that a woman at the next table ordered one and that it consisted mostly of tomato with hardly any of the more expensive mozzarella accompanying it.  On each of two occasions, I ordered a "sour cherry limeade" for $3.25 or so; it was served in a cocktail glass, loaded with ice, but not refilled without charge the way that other soft drinks appeared to be.

Yesterday, lunch for three males with just two pizzas and three soft drinks ran over $18 a person with tax and tip and no one was exactly stuffed afterwards.  So, while everything tasted or looked fine enough, I had an ongoing sense that the kitchen was cutting corners here on the diners' considerable expenditures of dimes.

Further, the service here is just plain perfunctory.  When we said we wanted a moment to look at the menu on our last visit, the server disappeared until my buddy got up and grabbed her.  On neither occasion did anyone ask  how our food was after it was delivered, nor was I offered another drink after I'd downed mine (even if I were wiling to pay for another, which I might have been), nor were our water glasses kept full.  As a result, the lunch became slower and more leisurely than it should have been.  Again, that's just more evidence that this is a place that caters to people who don't really have anywhere in particular to go and have no reason to care that it might take forever to get there.

So, bottom line, okay, and not outstanding, food, high prices for what you actually get, and "barely there" service.  Not horrible enough to cross it off the list if others want to go there, but I won't be suggesting this for my social gatherings again, either.

Probably the most affordable eats on the main Santana Row strip...it gets super crowded on weekends so make sure to get there before 6pm to get a seat, maybe earlier for an outside table.  For two people, food and drinks will be about $14-$15 each, which in this area is a bargain.  The pizza is done as thin crust with a few preselected combos or your choice of toppings.  Anything else on the menu wasn't as impressive.  Only two draft beers so I was a little bummed.

I'll definitely come back here again.

I came here with a bunch of my girlfriends and we thought the pizzas were decent! Would I come here again? Maybe. This place is definitely not a pizza house. But the spicy fennel sausage, portobello mushroom and roasted onion was not bad at all. We enjoyed it with lots of fun and giggles! :)

I like the atmosphere in general. The waiting area is too crowded and lack of sitting area, but the bar is nice to chill if you dont like to sit with the big group of other people.

We ordered a large Grilled Radicchio, Local Goat Cheese, Pancetta and Pesto pizza and a large Spicy Fennel Sausage, Portobello Mushroom and Roasted Onion pizza. The Goat Cheese pizza tasted better when it's hot. It's a bit pricey of total $50+ on the bill of two large pizza w/ the corkage fee.

Corkage fee is $10.

If you're a Cheeseboard fan, this is no Cheeseboard. But you'll still enjoy the thin crust and yummy toppings, which DO include meat!

My favorite is the sweet corn, basil, bacon, and arugula pizza, and I replace the bacon with fennel sausage. I savor every bite, not just because it's delicious, but because the pie is kinda small.

The wait usually seems long, but takeout is pretty fast. You have to place your order with the bartender, which is a bit awkward, but it's rewarding to walk out as others waiting to be seated stare longingly at your ready-to-be-devoured pizza.

This place is not too shabby...not too shabby at all, I must say.  Inventive pizzas, great salads, friendly staff, and decent prices for Santana Row.  Don't expect a recreation of your favorite thin-crust slices from back in Boston, NY, or Philly, and you'll do fine.

Minus 1 star for offering Coors Light.  :D

Came here for lunch last Sunday. I forgot how tasty the pizza was, something about their crust, I had my fair of fire wood oven pizzas but Pizza Antica places first place in my book. The spicy Calabrese Sausage pizza with the caramelized onions, peppers, and parsley hits the spot every time. I only wish the large was twice the size, that or my bf only devouring his half of it!

Come here on sunny Sunday afternoon and check in for a table. Walk around the farmer's market to check out local vendors and growers for some fresh produce and food. By the time you are done, your table at Pizza Antica will be available. Be prepared for excellent service. I have been here numerous times and service is always consistently great. You also have to try their Caesar salad...I know everyone's had Caesar salad before but their version is incredible, the best I ever had!

I'm still full from lunch today and thanks to Pizza Antica; it was all that and a bag of chips.

I absolutely love everything about Pizza Antica from the service to the food. I rarely give 5 stars and today, my friends, this was clearly deserved.

We dined al fresco. My friend and I split the Ceasar Salad and ordered #4: Spicy Fennel Sausage, Portabello Mushrooms and Caramelized Onions thin crust pizza.

I would definitely come back here. I thought my meal was perfect.

Review #526 for Pizza Antica, lol. Would it make a difference if I wrote a review?

My cousin invited me for lunch last week. I trust my cousins choice of restaurants because she is known in the family as the "garbage disposal" (Hench, she can eat a lot of everything), lol.
I love the restaurants ambiance. A vintage pizza palor look. It can be loud at times but bearable. The music playing in the background is calming; classic jazz and or lounge (Love it!). Unfortunately, I wasn't too big on the pizza. Super thin but taste great. But it's not a "man's man pizza". I can imagine my husband complaining about the pizza. lol

I ordered the "Tomato Sauce, Roasted Garlic, Oregano and Extra Virgin Olive Oil" pizza. No cheese on it. That was nice & simple. We also got the Caesar Salad. Haha. When the waiter brought it out, I looked at my cousin with the "wtf" expression. Long lettuce, not cut, with croutons on top. So I ate it like a celery stick. I'm not a fan of Caesar salads but this was good.

But what made me say WOW was the Bittersweet Chocolate Tart with Hazelnuts, Whipped Cream and Caramel! Omg, and with coffee. It's the best. Not too sweet or not over whelming.

I would give Pizza Antica a second chance. But I would prefer to come in on a day/time where there aren't too many people.

I had a chance to sample Pizza Antica's Heirloom Potato, Caramelized Onion and White Truffle Oil pizza this past weekend at the Y.E.E. and this pizza was DELICIOUS!  I'm planning on coming back for more!
