Pizza 1 makes the best pizza on Earth!
I live around the corner and am blessed to have this place in my neighborhood. They have pizza that lives up to every expectation I have. The Corralitos Sausage and Apple pizza is soooooooooooo gooooooooooood!!!
The pizza crust is flaky, kinda like pie dough, and completes the pizza. This is the only place where I like the crust just as much as the toppings part, granted I used to be the person that would leave the crust and move on to the next slice. Thank you Pizza 1 for making the best pies!! -

I live in Seacliff and I've been going to Pizza 1 for a long time. The pizza is usually pretty good.
This weekend, my boyfriend and I wanted pizza so I called in a to-go order. They said it would take 20-25 minutes. I arrived at Pizza 1 at around the 20 minute mark and the guy at the counter was giving change to the people in front of me. There were still other people in front of me, but before serving them, he cashier walked back to the pizza oven and took out a pizza.
He proceeded to touch it with his bare hands. Yeah, that's right. The same hands that he just used to touch money, the cash register and who knows what else.
He put the pizza back in the oven and then asked me if I had a to-go order. He told my that my pizza, clearly the one that he just touched with his filthy hands, would be done in five minutes.
We all know that food places don't always handle food in the most hygienic manner, but at least hide it from the customers for goodness sake! -

Pizza One overtook Aptos Pizza as my favorite all-time pizza when they were at their peak a year after opening. I still crave the amazing amalgamation of the "Corralitos" (applewood smoked Corralitos sausage, Corralitos apples and Gorgonzola on a garlic cream base).
I would give 5 stars but because the owner/chef is not always there, the consistency is not the best. However, I have yet to be disappointed.
Pizza One: stay generous with the toppings and keep browning that crust to perfection. -

Aptos, CA
This is our all time favorite pizza place in Santa Cruz county! Our favorites are Italian sausage & mushroom (and we always order extra sausage & mushroom) or Hector's, which is all meat. However, I did taste the Corralitos pizza and that was pretty amazing, too! I've been told that the barbequed chicken pizza was great.
It's not an Italian restaurant, just a pizza place, but boy, is it awesome! -

I grubbed on some of this pizza after a long ride.
Holy mother of pizza! I may have been just super hungry but it had the best pizza I have ever had.
Regardless of the hunger in question; this is some bomb ass pizza. It is not over the top with flavor so they make it easy to eat a lot.
It is a chill spot. You will see me here again. -

This is probably the best veggie pizza we have had in Santa Cruz County. It took a very long time to get the pizza (I'd estimate 40 minutes), but let me say it was on the 4th of July, early in the evening, so it's unfair to judge on that basis without going back to see what they do on a non-holiday.
A lot of people camping or picnicking at Seacliff State Beach walk up to Pizza 1 to get take-out; the kids working here were pretty efficient and friendly. There are two rooms to eat in: one has a large TV, and the other has a counter where you can watch the foot and auto traffic go by. We just took our pizza & walked over to the cliff & watched the waves go by.
I'd like to try more versions of a veggie pizza here. I hope they put out a Groupon or Trubate pretty soon! -

Long Beach, CA
The best pizza in all of Santa Cruz county. Like the others before me, my only lament is that I can't afford to eat here regularly. Major brownie points for them having Mexican Coca Cola (made with SUGAR, not crappy corn syrup). Their ingredients are fresh, healthy (for pizza anyway), and often local. Their Corralitos sausage pizza is incredible, or so I've heard, being a veggie and all.
Seriously though, gourmet pizza, but still accessible to everyone. And really, if I think about it, it's still cheaper to eat here than to get sushi. -

If you truly appreciate good food with quality ingredients, Pizza 1 will not disappoint you. Owners, Dana Smith and John Smith (ironically no relation!) are two of the most successful restaurateurs out there, having years of experience with their countless restaurants. Pizza 1's gourmet pizzas are phenomenal and unlike anything else you will find. They believe in using only the finest, freshest ingredients and it truly shines through in their delicious pizzas. An absolute must-try, and you have no excuse for not having eaten there if you live in the area!
The decor is very stylish and fun, with three plasma TVs on the walls, one of which plays nothing but Rolling Stones concerts, as Dana and John are their #1 fans. The countertops feature a hand-painted map of Highway 1 beginning in Alaska and ending in Chile, while naming landmarks and major cities along the way. Pizza 1 also has fun promotions based around the theme of the restaurant, which is of course, The Pan-American Highway. They ask customers to bring in pictures of them next to Highway 1 signs for a free slice of pizza, and there is a grand prize for whoever brings in a picture from the furthest away. This restaurant is wonderful in every way. Outstanding food, outstanding service, and an all around great experience!

Review from John E.
I'm not a big fan of pizza because it's not healthy and usually tastes pretty much the same. Not so at Pizza 1. The pizzas are super fresh, interesting, and delicious. This one of those places that I consider a landmark. That is, if you are visiting Seacliff Beach, you MUST stop by Pizza 1 and grab a slice of the sausage and apple pizza. Yeah, that's right, I said apple. Trust me. Just do it. You'll be talking about the first time you tried it years later. Oh, and you can buy wine by the bottle here too.

Had it for the first time today, take out, care of the boss (and, perhaps, our beloved clients, the proud members of the California Penal system.) What can I say? i was very impressed.
Definitely on the bready side for pizza, but not a lot of crust; still soft & moist. Had a (don't know the names) chicken pizza, with I believe a pesto sauce, and a vegetarian one, with artichoke hearts, tomato, and feta. Both were delicious; juicy, but not oily. A very nice quality pizza.
Oh, and evidently they sell by the slice! The slice I tell you! -

We stopped here on our way back from a day trip to Monterey. Unfortunately we were caught in the middle of a torrential rainstorm and the kids were restless and grouchy. I remembered reading about this place on yelp so we decided to give it a try. Great decision. We ordered a half Monterey half combination large pizza and a salad. I was partial to the Monterey..Mmmmm those fresh mushrooms!
Maybe it was the rain or the stress of spending the day with the kids at the aquarium but this was one of those family dining experiences that will be remembered for a long time.

Really dry pizza by the slice. The sausage and apple is really really bad. Kids liked the cheese, but they'll eat anything.

Corralitos, CA
Ordered the Corralitos Market pizza and thought it was some of the best pizza I've had in Santa Cruz County! I live in Corralitos and the only pizza out here is Big J's, which is good but I wanted something different. I drove to Aptos to pick up the pizza and the pie still had a minute to go so I knew it was going to be hot and fresh. This pizza was similar to a hawaiian pizza, except instead of pineapple there was apples. And the crust was amazing!! Not too thin, but nice and chewy, just the way I like it. Can't wait to go back again!

Broken record review...eview...eview...eview...eview...
Best Pizza In Town! No, not the town of Aptos which boast three or four pizza places (all others shwaggy!). This stuff is the real deal, great toppings, good sauce and crust, surf vids on the screens, decent bottled beer prices and some good hot sauce for to sprinkle on top.
Also, if you are a regular drunk at the Med you know about the late evening drop off of uneaten slices...oh my goddess, what a lifesaver!
Love,

This is very good pizza. Thin crust. Lots of choices and you can order by the slice. Friendly, casual service. And they serve beer and wine.
But it isn't really a restaurant where you bring family and sit down for a meal with table service. It's really a take out place although they recently expanded so there are about five tables and a two "bars" with about five bar stools on each.
They also have about five big screen Plasma TVs and usually show surfing videos or sporting events. Location is great on the Seacliff main drag (State Park Exit - one of the more under-appreciated parts of Santa Cruz) in Aptos walking distance to the beach and next to Manuel's Mexican restaurant, an Italian restaurant and a bar called The Mediterranean (a little seedy). -

i think the pizza was the saving grace for this place, getting to eat it fresh out of the oven would be really good but not sure if its gonna be same when re-heated.phoned in an order and was told it would take 30-35 mins which was fine hence im calling first before going there and picking it up.went there 40mins after i called and asked how far along was it.the 2 employees just looked at the each other and somehow looking smug and said its another 10-15mins till its ready,1 HOUR!!so i paid for it and just decided to wait there and the place wasnt even busy(around 1pm)
so on a note if youre gonna dine in and buy by the slice you would be fine.but if you decide to go for pick up better make sure to phone it in ahead and bring some extra patience when you pick it up.i know when domino's was the previous pizza place they were realy good with timed order and quality didnt suffer at all in its behalf. -

I went back last night and ordered a half hawaiian and half pepperoni. It was FANTASTIC!
Here is a trick if you are a stickler for good crust. Call them and order a medium, but tell them to roll it out to a large. This way you get a perfect crust that is not too thick.

Awesome pizza. Stumbled on this place by accident and we were so hungry we gave it a shot. We have made a point to come back every camping trip to Seacliff. Pizza varieties are unique and something for everyone. Thai chicken is my husbands favorite. This place is no frills and seat yourself. The only thing I would suggest is ice! There is nothing that I want more than an ice cold Diet Pepsi with my pizza. Soda in a can/bottle that has warmed by the time I am knee deep in this pizza doesn't do it. However.....I did go last Wednesday for lunch and was nursing a bad burn on my hand. I was desperate for ice and the guy behind the counter left for a few minutes and came back with a small bag of ice somehow. Ahhhh. Thank you. Lots of TV screens around the room that have something for everyone. BMX/skateboarding for the kids, hockey, football, news, (certainly not Fox News - this is Santa Cruz!) Not sure who likes this place more, the kids or the adults. Will be back every trip for sure.

The best pizza ever! We get our pizza fix here at least twice a month. We always order 1/2 Corralitos Market and switch off between the Chicken Garlic and the Chicken Feta.
Tips: Always add 5-10 minutes to whenever they tell you the pizza will be ready. Trust me... And, check the box. We never get the wrong pizza but on occassion all the yummy ingredients are piled up in the center of the pie. That just doesn't work if we have company. Otherwise, get a spoon! -

Who would have thought apples, sausage, and gorgonzola cheese would be a great combination for a pizza! If you go here, give this a shot. Its called the Corralitos pizza and it is super tasty! We first tried this at the Blues festival. Unfortunately, they do not have a real place to sit and eat so take it home and enjoy while watching the Giants win the superbowl :)

Santa Cruz, CA
Barely cooked. Crust was thick and doughy. Bell peppers were barely cooked, and sprinkled on top of cheese, rather than baked in. Mushrooms weren't cooked through. Sauce was tasteless. Cheese was bland. Very little meat for a pizza that had pepperoni and sausage on it.
Huge disappointment after reading the reviews on here. Maybe it was just an off night for them, but I can't remember ever having a worse pizza. -

Extremely disappointing! Our pizza sat in a box for over ten minutes while we were waiting to dine in. When my wife went up to check on the status they told her to "get over it." We couldnt believe it! Incidentally, our 2 year old stole a menu without us noticing. When we discovered it this morning, we noticed a comment on the back of the menu that says "no complaining - just eat". The Irony!

Review from David Z.
Santa Cruz, CA
This place is popular for a 2-3 hour period on Saturday night which caused a complete breakdown in their ability to produce food in a timely fashion. According to some people whose experience was even worse than mine, it has been this way since they opened over two years ago, which suggests it was not just a bad night but fundamental cluelessness in how to run this type of operation. People want pizza for dinner early on a Saturday evening. Who knew?
I walked in and ordered a pizza at 6:45PM and was told it would take half an hour. This already seemed excessive, but I thought I'd be able to deal with it by surfing the internet or reading the lame local newspapers they had available. Unfortunately the free wifi was flakey to the point of being useless and in any event it was hard not to be captivated by the continual series of screw-ups, unmet promises, and rising tension in the kitchen as four hapless workers kept running into each other trying to work through an increasing backlog of orders.
I realize it is close to impossible to conceive of a competent service operation in Santa Cruz, but Pizza 1 is a memorable low for me in my fifteen years of living here. My pizza was finally delivered an hour and 15 minutes after I ordered it. But the worst experience was reserved for two guys who had ordered three large pizzas (at a shocking $25 each) and had come in after 40 minutes only to be told their order hadn't even been started. They were promised it would be started immediately and be ready in 20 minutes. They came back a half an hour later but due to a "scheduling mistake" the kitchen had still not started the order, so after a tense discussion, there was an agreement that one of the pizzas would be free. Another half an hour and the pizzas were at least in the oven when they returned, and upon delivering the boxes, someone who seemed sort of in charge offered to give them some t-shirts; this was met with chuckles of derision from the two customers. Not really sensing this, the employee dropped his pizza-making duties and started running around the place looking for the t-shirts while the two guys waited even longer holding their pizza boxes and I think ultimately they just left and the t-shirts were never found. Incidentally, no form of compensation was offered to me for my interminable wait, just an insincere apology from one of the cooks as he handed over my box.
The pizza itself was not too bad. The crust was unevenly distributed and had an unappetizing screen pattern on the bottom, but it had a nice aroma and was crisp for the most part and slightly sweet. The sauce was best part. It had the taste of fresh tomatoes, was also on the sweet side, but wasn't terribly "zesty" (compared to, say, Toto's in San Bruno, an amazing operation that always manages to produce your pizza in 15 or 20 minutes no matter how busy they are). Pizza 1 uses fattening whole milk mozzarella that melts into the place where the pie was sliced, requiring you to have your own pizza cutter at home if you want the cheese to say on the crust.
While I waited, a number of people came in to order slices, which looked extremely old and unappetizing, and during the entire hour and 15 minutes I spent there, no new slices appeared, and no slices were removed due to longevity. I'd suggest avoiding them if you want to remain healthy. -

Maybe I just went at a bad time .... This was probably the worst pizza I have ever tasted. The crust was thick and doughey inside and the pizza had an overall bitter burned taste....even though it wasn't burned appearing. I got the combination of meats and veggies. I would take a Domino's Disk of Death before going here again.

If you are looking for great pizza then this is the place. The menu doesn't seem all that different from other pizza places but the execution is so much better. Either their ingredients are better and/or someone just knows how to combine flavors better than other places. . My favorite is the garlic chicken but all that we've had from them have been superior in taste. I can hardly wait to get pizza from here again!

I've eaten at every pizzeria in town over the last 20+ years, and their pizza is the best! If you're looking for a gourmet pizza, with a french bread crust that is always perfect, look no further. Some of my favorites are: Thai chicken with a spicy peanut sauce, The Castroville (artichoke hearts, spinach, tomato, pesto, feta and mozzarella) and last but not least Corralitos market (sausage, slow cooked apple, bacon, and gorgonzola).
