i have spent countless hours and hundreds of dollars in this small store.
i worked at pixi for a couple years back in my BU days when those mesh triangle with strings tops and crystal tattoos were all the hotness. back then, every other thing in my closet was glittery...or had split sleeves! *cringe* i can only count my blessings that i quit before ponchos became trendy.
anyway, pixi is owned by a sweet korean couple who regulary drive to new york's chinatown in search of cute outfits that you can hit the bars in. it's forever 21 quality and markup. but merchandise is fun and trendy and it's painless to stop in if you're on the street. if you live in allston, keep pixi in mind the next time you need a last minute outfit or accessory and don't want to deal with the T.
I would say this place is OK. Don't expect anything you purchase here to be high quality. Clothing is not exceptional. Although if you're coming from a highly rural area, or 2005, you may be blown away. I do enjoy taking a look at the displays, though, since they change them frequently and the looks ain't dowdy none.
In a world where we have corporate fashion merchandisers deciding so many of our "personal" styles each season, enter Pixi where you have an individual's eye selecting a small collection of neat clothes.
I started buying from Pixi in 2004 and I am still a customer. This is the place that made my thirty year old self look hip with the leggings look for a few bucks.
I like the staff because they are a rare combination of sweet and honest. If you go to a corporate joint, you run the risk of buying crap because their staff just wants to make their sale.
Have a great time at Pixi and write to me to tell me how much you loved it!
I bought a dress there and it fit in a very flattering way. However, I got jeans with that were kind of grommeted and the grommets fell off and one of them ripped a hole in the jeans. So, I love the jeans, but what am I to do -- they are sort of ruined. The quality is kinda meh for the price they charge, but at least it's pretty unique sometimes (yea, I agree that some clothes look like they would be seen on a rough stretch of highway coming back from some club drunk and hobbling over in some cheap ass heels). It's got its cute stuff and it's got its ass-ugly stuff.
After continually walking by this place at least twice a week, I finally had the opportunity to venture inside.
....I was disappointed.
The clothes in the window were always super cute, and I have to admit, the rest of the place for the most part is cute, but the prices are a little expensive for the quality. Between $30-$60 for a shirt? They do have a clearance rack, which advertises about 40% off, and there were some good items in there.
I wouldn't completely abandon this place, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it....
Who would wear these clothes? Either the housewives of Orange County or girls into the club scene who can be seen hobbling on Boston sidewalks on tortured, high-heeled feet. Not my cup of tea, but hooray for variety.
Pixi is always kinda swing or miss for me. I have found some cute dresses and tops there, but I have also gone in and found absolutely nothing that I would wear. The owner must have some eclectic style.
I do like ambling into this store though. It is usually helpful when I need a cute top or dress and have exhausted other resources (namely my roommate's closet or Newbury Street). I have also seen some cute shoes here.
Other reviewers are right though in that the price-quality ratio is a bit skewed.
Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
I walk by here all the time, and a few weeks ago finally went in and did a quick "just looking" once over. The clothes were fun, interesting and affordable, so I went back on a Saturday to try a bunch of stuff on.
Well, I didn't buy anything. Putting the clothes on I realized everything was really poorly made; $60 is a bargain for a saucy little dress that will become a staple for social nights, but not for one that will fall apart after 2.5 outings. The clothes reminded me of the super-cheap, super-cute stuff I used to pick up at the night markets in Taiwan--but that stuff cost $10, max. The fabrics and quality of composition were the same at Pixi (i.e., not great) - and I just couldn't countenance paying for it.
But I can't slate the place - the sales rack is great and the clothes really are unique while being affordable. They have some fun accessories too - definitely worth a look in if you're around Allston.
I like this store. After years of living in Allston and driving in traffic (so annoying) I normally would end up in front of Pixi. Tonight, on a balmy end of summers night, I decided it was time to check it out. Am I glad I did? Why, yes, yes, I am. I didn't buy anything, but they had a kinda mod/chic/cute going out clothes. Most of their stock was summer clothes @ 40% off, but they were still too pricey for me. If their clothing was better quality, I'd probably purchased a dress or two. They seem to have a sister store, Coco, across the street. I went to Coco next and yelped about it. I think I'd return later this year to see what they have.
Although this is a small boutique, the owners have a good sense of style and keep the styles that are in the store pretty consistent. The prices aren't too bad and most of the things are of quality.
I am personally not too crazy about the accessories, but I do like their selection of clothing. They have cute tops, dresses, pants and jackets.
It's that time of year again!!! It's almost May and students are going to be heading home, transferring or dropping out of school. Everyone and their mother wants to get their housing situated. They want to secure their apartments for the summer or the new school year. They are out and about like vultures.
Enter me showing units. One property is right near Pixi. I had never been in there until today. After being blown off by my 2PM appointment, I decided to get a coffee, get some gum and check out Pixi.
I am so excited that these ass wipes stood me up! I had enough time to check all out the cute clothes and score a bracelet and shirt for 40% in time for my 3PM appointment.
Yes, some of the items aren't worth their price, but it is fun none the less. All their clothes are super trendy and under $60. I will come back, but I just wish it wasn't due to being blown off from clients, so I could actually go back with some money.
Meh. This small shop has some cute things. But although I found some of them cute, ultimately I wouldn't wear them. I also found that things were overpriced for the quality. Many things I have seen before that look similar at other places and the prices are way lower. $30-$50 for shirts is a lot. The materials seemed thing and cheap. So, I wouldn't pay those prices for what they were offering. I saw that other reviews mentioned that the quality was good, but I just don't agree. It wasn't horrible by any means, but the prices should be lower. Instead of $35 for that shirt it should be $25 or even as low as $22. But I know that being a small business owner is hard and sometimes your prices have to be higher to make ends meet.
The accessories weren't my taste. But they did have all types of jewelry, head bands, tights, socks, and bra accessories. They had the Q Bra, those no strap, flesh colored, jelly bra things that just cover the breast area. (that description sounds so crazy, but it's all I got).
I can't give it less than 3 stars because there wasn't anything overly wrong with it. It just isn't my style and overpriced to me.
Went in there for the first time recently. I really liked almost everything I saw. Will def go and checkout some items and maybe spend some dollars there. Seems reasonable for cute, once-in-a-while, club clothing. If you're looking for quality staple items go to Ann Taylor or the Loft.
I concur with the other reviews for this shop, it is rather hit or miss but definitely worth checking out. If you are shopping for a dress for a special event, like a wedding for example, then this store is for you. Some of the patterns are a little loud, but you could find a hidden gem. The tops are nice here as well. As far as shopping in Allston goes, this store is definitely superior to most others in the neighborhood, but to a find a great outfit you are better off going to Harvard Sq.
I was a bit reluctant to set foot in this store but I was drawn in recently by a stylin' pair of gold platform sandals in the window. While I was disappointed that my size in the retro sandals had sold out, I was pleased to discover a wealth of funky things including a great selection of nail polish. I picked up some pretty sparkly gold polish as well as some gold glitter for my hair, which I use when I go out to rock. I also got some great big, fake cocktail rings for only $6 a piece. The staff was friendly and helpful. This place could easily become my second reason for going to Allston, the first being Blanchards.
Cute little shop, again another hit or miss store. A few doors down from Every Little Thing. It's a small shop, that carries many of the lower end brands carried by jasmine sola. Their miss me jeans are the same price but they have some really cute styles that are either sold out at jasmine or they never carried. While many of the shirts are about $10-15 cheaper (they basically don't have the jasmine inflation). The last few times i went there i haven't been able to find much but there has been times when i've made off with a few really great going out shirts. There is always a jewelery sale for some reason but it's not really anything to brag about. If you're in the area it's definately worth stopping by. It's a small shop, so it doens't suck you in for hours. Really underrated and unknown. You can usually tell if it's a hit or miss day within the first 15 minutes in there.
This is an adorable little shop with lots of unique pieces that looks as if it is Korean owned. Although I didn't purchase anything here, it was still worth a look. I really loved the bright colors and asymmetrical cuts but the clothes did seem a little cheaply made when compared to higher brand named clothing. Overall this place is great for students or people that are looking for something that is a little different.
Though I'm not crazy about the place, I have to give it three stars because I can't knock it for anything. The prices are reasonable. The style is a cute and unique funky, chic, boho thing. The accessories are impressive and like it was previously mentioned, the selection is very consistent but LIMITED. Worth stopping in while you're in the less-than-impressive neighborhood. Not worth a special trip, though.
I pass Pixi every single day, often twice, and it's hard not to stop in just to take a look at the accessories on sale. The clothing is trendy and cute, but some of it isn't the best quality, and the same goes for the accessories. At least the prices are low!
