Cardamom gelato and thick, delicious Italian sipping chocolate. This might be all I ever want for dessert.

The gelato is actual gelato, and not someone trying to pass off American ice cream on you, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

I scream, YOU scream, we ALL scream for...SICILIAN ALMOND AND GIANDUJA GELATOOOOO!!!

    Did I do it right?

Pitango. Saying the name is the second most fun thing you can do with your mouth in this place. The first obviously being making out with a cup of their cool creamy goodness. As my sweet tooth has declined steadily over the years, I've only been twice, but both times I left so utterly pleased with what myself and my gelato had accomplished, I've decided to make it a monthly ritual.

My first visit was in August, a friend and I ducking in from the scorching harbor sun, squinting at the plaques of flavors on the wall as the reflection blinded us, searching for that perfect duet. The heat had me craving fruit, so I went with the sorbet.  Tangerine and lemon. The mere idea of it dropped me down several delicious degrees. The delivery was even better: some of the smoothest, tangiest, most refreshing sorbet I've had.

Round II at Pitango occurred when a random craving for chocolate gelato caught me in the odd month of January. At first we had tried Meli's bakery for one of their amazing chocolate mousse deserts, only to find they had closed the bakery portion (*cue melancholy violins*). So, despite the icy temps outside, we scurried into Pitango. After a quick scan of the flavors, my belly told my heart to tell my mind...to go with Sicilian Almond and Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) gelato.

    My belly is smart.

This was heaven. Creamy, rich, chocolaty-nutty goodness in a cup. With an itty bitty spoon. All the better to savor it with. Dis' be some good gelato.

Ya got da sorBAY!! Ya got da geLADDO!! You...ya did good kid.

    Pitango: I'll be back.

    Delish!

The staff is always friendly and not angry with you when you can't make up your mind on flavors. And they let you taste test as many as you want before coming up with a final selection :)

Also, I love that with the small size you get a choice of two flavors. I hate when some places only let you pick one flavor because its the small. I don't want to get a bigger size just to accommodate another flavor, I just want to mix two gelato flavors man!

Atmosphere is light and fun. They have facts on the wall about how the gelato is made.

So good. They had so many intriguing flavors i seriously didnt know which one to try. My bf & I settled with pistachio and it was so good. It's also in good location near tons of restaurants and bars. Plus there was a parking lot right in front. awesome. And it's near a small pier kind of thing. Perfect way to end the night.

Love.  I haven't actually had their gelato (though I hear it's amazing), but they get 5 stars from me for their sorbets.  Such perfectly balanced flavors, and such *interesting* flavors.  I always want to try way more than I possibly can eat!  So refreshing to find a place with such wonderful ... refreshing :) ... treats.

I never really knew the difference between ice cream and gelato until I had Pitango. It is seriously delicious. I will go down to Fell's just to get Pitango! They have great flavors and they always keep them unique and interesting. They also try to keep a flavor for every different taste. I still somehow manage to get chocolate hazelnut either on its own or with another flavor every time I go. I can't seem to get away from it.

Tried their pistachio gelato for the first time and I felt like I was in Italy (never been there actually). I definitely will go back there for their famous spicy chocolate. Even the small cup made me full, it was $5 for the smallest cup, but u can get two flavors in one. Well every magic comes with a price. This gelato must be made by love.

Creamy. Delicious. Addicting. Best. Gelato. Ever.
Most other gelato I've ever had was more icy than creamy. I recently tried Il Laboratorio del Gelato in NYC with the weird flavors (celery, black sesame, guinness, etc.) , and I wish I could go home just to get me some Pitango for my fix.

Warning: Do not try to walk to the pier and have your gelato while gazing over at Tide Point, especially on a warm summer day. You won't make it, the gelato will melt and you will be sad.

If you want icy gelato, go to Little Italy.

Walking along the cobbled streets of Fells Point, my friend and I nearly passed by this gelato joint that had a line out the door. Something was telling us that we should get in line too.

My eyes immediately gravitated toward the non-dairy sorbet. The line moved quickly and we got to taste samples. I decided on a small cup with half Natural Apricot sorbet and half Spicy Chocolate sorbet.

so. much. bold. clean. flavors. http://su.pr/9fZwYZ

They have a lot of gelato flavors. It is creamy but not too heavy. My favorite is the vanilla gelato with the chocolate chips. I don't know what is about those chocolates but they are so addicting!

I heard someone saying "drinkable chocolate" as their order and it looked like the most amazing hot chocolate ever! Next time, I may need to just skip the gelato and try that out! Or, have both if my waist allows both treat!

Can't stop thinking about the passion fruit and the mojita (lime/mint) gelatos. Perfectly made, just the right amount of flavor. A bit icy but it hit the spot.

The black tea was amazing and tasted just like it, and the chocolate hazelnut was also well made. I, however, was in the mood for some fruity flavors.

Two friends ordered the hot chocolate and it was literally, melted chocolate and whipped cream. That's my kind of hot chocolate!

I loved all the unique and broad range of flavors...
If I lived around here, I'd be back ASAP.

"Where can I get good ice cream?"

    "Pitango!"
    "Pitango!"
    "Pitango!"

It's all I heard from everyone I asked.  They all lied.

You cannot get good ice cream at Pitango, but you can get GREAT gelato there (and there IS a difference people.  They are not interchangeable!).

I was immediately struck by two things: the abundance of flavors and the abundance of price!  A kid-sized dish will cost you $5 (two flavors) and an adult-sized dish will cost you $6.50 (three flavors).  I opted for the kids dish, with half crema and rhubarb.  The crema was sweet, with hints of vanilla cream and the rhubarb as sweet and tart.  I enjoyed them both.

It was over before I knew it though (the portion was pretty small for the kids dish) and honestly, my sweet tooth was not satisfied.  In true gelato fashion though, my mouth felt refreshed and it totally cleansed my palate, which is part of its intent.  Mission accomplished.

Would I be back to Pintago?  You bet ya... BUT only after a meal or when I really crave something light.  If you want the smoothness or creaminess of real ice cream or frozen yogurt though, Pitango will not satisfy you.

I had high expectations for Pitango Gelato because I kept hearing insanely good things about it. I am very glad that it did not disappoint! Pitango in Fell's Point may very well be one of the best gelato joints in Maryland. While there is a definite difference from regular ice cream and gelato, what really caught my eye in this hip little shoppe were their incredibly fresh sorbets and their amazing flavors.

After sampling their rich and dense hazelnut and vanilla bean flavors, I opted for their quince and bosc pear sorbets, which were absolutely amazing. Light, refreshing, and not too sweet. I had never seen quince used in a sorbet before and was quite excited. While prices are a little steep for the amount they give you, this place is definitely worth a try. A small cup will run you about $5 (you can chose two flavors).

I wouldn't really recommend this place for young children. It's more of a grown-up ice cream place, but if you know a savvy 10 year old who has an appreciation for rhubarb, then this might be a nice little field trip.

I'm keeping this one short & sweet....

Lychee- sampled, but didn't like it.
    I got...
    Spicy chocolate- yummmmmmmmm.
Pistachio- meh. I may be biased because I've had pistachio gelato in Italy but I was pretty disappointed with this one... also maybe the spicy chocolate just overwhelmed it but either way it didn't seem to have much flavor to me.

Service... meh. We had one girl giving us samples then she went and rang someone else up, then did some kind of paperwork and didn't come back to take our order. The girl who rang us up wasn't very friendly either.

I had a living social voucher so it was basically a BOGO but I don't think it's worth $10 for two small cups.

If I'm craving that spicy chocolate again I'd go back but other than that idk.

This is my favorite dessert place in Baltimore. Nothing comes close. Obviously all the gelato is great, but if you are a huge coffee fan like me, i've got to make an amazing suggestion. Get the iced Affogato drink which combines espresso with ice cold Trickling Springs milk, a scoop of your choice of gelato(I always go with the espresso one), and ice in the perfect summer drink. One taste and you'll be hooked.

    Coffee fan? Get it.

When I go to Fell Point, I always go to Pitango for a scoop of gelato!

It is much more expensive than Hagendazs... (Two flavors costs $5.25) But trust me, Pitango worth the price!
There are many flavors you could try, and some flavors are seasonal.
The one I highly recommend is the Pistachio....And it is the reason I go to Pitango again and again. The flavor is like thousands of pistachio condensed in a small scoop of ice cream. The gelato has excellent texture, creamy but not too soft.

The other one I love is black tea flavor, but it is seasonal and I could not have it this time.

Pineapple flavor is also adorable. You will know it is ture pineapple inst

This is some delicious high quality gelato.  The texture is amazing and the flavor choices are awesome.  Their flavors change all the time and the day I went I had their black tea and their vanilla chocolate chip gelato.  It was so hard to choose! They're really great about letting you sample their flavors.  I wanted to sample them all, but I was trying to be lady-like and not piglet-like so I limited myself to trying 4 of their flavors and these 2 I liked the best.

They also had great sorbet choices.  My friend got the raspberry and cantaloupe and both were delish!

The smallest size they offer goes for about $5.

Would def try and stop by again if ever I'm in the Baltimore area again :)

This place is mind-blowingly good.  I sampled almost everything - and while some flavors were more subtle than expected (white grapefruit, quince, coconut), the majority of what I tried actually took my breath away.  Yes, this is love at first taste, and absolutely ranks as one of the best gelato/sorbets I've had.

The black tea flavor tastes just like a bubble milk tea, and my roommate got it with almond.  It was a perfectly creamy, seamless blend that tasted like - what else - an almond milk tea!

After sampling 10 flavors I went with rhubarb and spicy chocolate.  The rhubarb was astounding.  I loved it.  It was the perfect blend of sweet and tart, which is what I love about rhubarb desserts to begin with, but as a sorbet it was totally refreshing and perfect for a muggy 90 degree day in Baltimore.  Spicy chocolate was also a sorbet, and it reminded me of a Mexican pudding.  It wasn't too spicy, which can distract from the chocolate flavor.  Definitely best for a chocolate lover, and as a sorbet it was nice and light to balance out the intense chocolate flavor.  It may have been too heavy as a gelato, but just right as sorbet.

There was a guy working behind the counter who was great - very polite and encouraged as much sampling as you wanted.  He also gave very generous portions for your order.  Unfortunately I got mine from a brunette girl behind the counter who spent most of her time eating gelato (no joke- the entire time I was there.  I think she sampled/ate more than I did).   She then stood behind the guy while he was helping someone else, and only when I asked her to help me did she get my order.  She plopped a very messy and small portion into a cup.  It was such a discrepancy that I actually asked her for a little more on top, because she put no effort into the scoop.   That was the only negative experience.  Otherwise, this place is amazing and the food highlight of my Baltimore trip.  Just make sure you get the guy to help you.

5 stars for: taste, variety of flavors, and location!

Fell's Point was my absolute favorite part of Baltimore. Historic brick buildings, cobble stone streets, the water a few blocks away...beautiful!

Pitango was the perfect little walk after our dinner at the Black Olive. I tried to taste as many different as I could without being an annoying rude customer (and making the customers behind me angry...) I managed to taste about 6 flavors: pistachio, hazelnut, mojito, tangerine, raspberry,  and this white one but i forget the name! :(

the pistachio and hazelnut were creamy, nutty, thick, DELICIOUS! yumyum. I paired the hazelnut with tangerine so I can have the creamy goodness mixed with the flavorful, tangy, light, freshness of the tangerine. YUMYUM.

The second night (yes I went back here the next day! and YES it was that yummy!) I picked the pistachio with mojito. SO GOOD. seriously a hugee kick of flavor with each spoonful, and soo refreshing.

The best part was sitting outside, enjoying yummy gelato, warm evening, chit chatting with good company. :)

This place has gelato that is like my perfect woman: sweet, a little tangy, super creamy and very, very cold.

They don't care how long you stare trying to decide on what flavors to get. They will let you sample everything. You will walk out of here with your palate satiated in a way that ice cream could never do.

This is gelato, not ice cream. What is gelato? It's a mix between sorbet and frozen yogurt. It's good. It's refreshing. This is the best place in the Baltimore area to get it.

I got harvest apricot and hazelnut. Both were terrific. There is a good assortment of flavors, but not a lot of classics. As you can see in the pictures of the menu wall, you're encouraged to branch out and try something new. I previously wrote that they do not have a Nutella flavor. Well, I stand corrected. Pitango makes their own version of this flavor, called the classic chocolate hazelnut which they make with their own cocoa and hazelnuts.

My concerns with Pitango are that it's expensive (but everything is handcrafted and high-quality), the line is long (they are popular), they take a while to serve customers (again, because of the crowd), and there are not a lot of places to sit inside.

The gelato is awesome, however and I highly recommend it.

When I saw the staff scooped the ice cream, I knew it would be great! Why? Their ice cream(gelato) is not chunky when you scoop it, it is more like a soft dough!
I had a Amerena, it is the new flavor. It tasted so well, especially with 110 degree outside!!! It tasted like vanilla, but not exactly. Also, you can see some cherries in the gelato!

Post-lunch in Litttle Italy, I skillfully steered my dad to the Fell's Point Pitango for what I was sure would be a life-changing experience. He absolutely loves pistachio, and I knew Pitango would blow the green ice cream at Giant out of the water. My only hesitation was price.

Me: "Dad, the gelato here is kind of.... expensive."
Him: "The flavors are framed. I assumed as much."

    Whew.

At 3:30 the place was kind of empty, so we had time to sample our hearts out. The guy at the cash register was pretty much the best customer service person ever.

Dad: "I'm having a hard time deciding."
Him: "We have a great Black Tea flavor [hands over tiny spoon]. Or if you like you can try the Espresso, made from [insert a detailed description of where and how they harvest the beans]. Have you had our local Quince sorbet?"

After extensive tasting, we both ordered smalls ($4.50), which can accommodate two flavors. I went for cardamom/chocolate hazelnut, which was a perfect blend of rich and creamy. There were actual cardamom pods in the gelato, which lent a fun crunch.

It's obvious from the wall displays and descriptions, informative staff and stellar product that Pitango is serious about its gelato. My dad is a pretty hard sell when it comes to price point, but I think it's fair to say he's now a fan.

    Hello, I love you.

Pitango Gelato combines my two favorite things, sweet delicious creamy goodness and local, organic ingredients. Makes the environmentalist in my swoon.

It's basically and upscale ice cream shop right on the main drag of Broadway in Fells Point. It was packed when I went - and it's not even that warm out. It's just that good.

These are not your normal flavors - much more adventurous and sophisticated. I got the bourbon vanilla and I'm not ever goin' back.

There's also sorbets and coffee/espresso for those not craving a cool creamy treat.

A must have when you're in Fells.

There's a large variety of flavors and it's not your typical flavors either. Pitango, you definitely had me at rhubarb. If it wasn't for being full already, I would've bought a cup. Without a doubt, absolutely the BEST GELATO EVER.

I had the combination of matcha green tea and chocolate hazelnut. Both were deliciously rich, creamy and flavorful. So decadent, yet so light. Unfortunately, I heard that the matcha green tea flavor has been discontinued, but don't let that stop you as they have a wall full of flavors for you to try.

Slightly more expensive, but definitely worth it. Guaranteed you'll fall in love!

This is the best in Baltimore!!  The best Gelato I've ever had was in Italy, this is a close second.

I highly recommend pistachio or cookies and cream.  Very creamy and flavorful - this is quite the opposite of many of the US gelato places I've visited.

The only drawback was the price.  It is not cheap.  We purchased small servings and walked out spending more than $12.

How can you not like gelato???
This is definitely the place to go for the good stuff (and I lived off of it once in Italy).
Delicious & delightful gelato (and sorbet) is what you will get here.
Oddly enough, the sorbet is almost as creamy and rich as the gelato.
Great on a warm or cold day (add espresso).
Staff are always ready to answer questions or offer samples.
Seating is limited, so be prepared to take your gelato on a stroll through the streets of Fells Point.

Going to speed through the first part of my review to get to the good part:

    Gelato = really good.

Okay. Got that out of the way. On two separate occasions I drove from College Park to Baltimore with nothing else in mind other than to get to Pitango and get me some of their sipping chocolate. I went to Europe in 2008 and got hot chocolate at every cafe I encountered (slight overstatement) in search of the perfect cup of hot chocolate. Little did I know, I would have to wait two years and two GRE tests and three grad school applications later to bring me to the Baltimore area to find that perfect cup. At Pitango Gelato.

Stop whatever you're doing and go to Pitango and get some sipping chocolate and some whipping cream and sip that chocolate and that will forever be the moment you use to summon your patronus /superfluousharrypotterreference.

On top of this life-shattering sipping chocolate experience, the staff are the nicest people I ever encountered in Fells Point. I moved to Austin and Fells Point and Pitango are the things I miss most about the Baltimore area.
