Skip the falafel; the last few times it's been burned and too dry for even tsatsiki sauce to save.

That said... best cheese fries *ever.* Hand cut, not frozen, perfectly seasoned (with a little kick). Oh, and you can get whatever combination of cheeses you might be craving. I recommend blue cheese & cheddar. I've eaten an entire box by myself, including the little bits of cheese that get stuck to the side of the box (which sounds gross now that I write it down).

Oh, other reviewers are right, the music is awful & painfully loud. Get delivery!

Wow, that is pathetic! (Pita Pan posted a comment saying that I was a competitior, which has since been deleted). Trying to make me seem like a competitor because you got a somewhat-negative comment? Try not overcooking your meat in the "Pita Pan" Gyro and you will get a better review.

Next to the choice for 2-stars it says "Meh. I've experienced better." I can't think of a more appropriate choice for a restaurant I have eaten at over 5x at and cannot say honestly that it is as good as anything else nearby.  I will not list any other restaurants which might feed into your paranoia that I actually work for a competitor --- I am a full-time student.

Agree with a previous reviewer, the music is UNBEARABLY LOUD... it's not a comfortable place to eat in, but the food is great and cheap!  I always just scarf my pita down fast and get out asap.  Perhaps that was their goal?

In any case, it's a cute place, the food is seriously tasty for seriously cheap prices.  I love going and getting their 3 chicken kebabs for $3 after my workout at the gym, conveniently 3 blocks away.

Horrible, unprofessional service. You want a guarantee your order will be wrong? Come to pita pan. The food is also very bad. I understand the concept they are trying to accomplish but the food is just not good. It also seems like the place is operated by thug-like owners. I am honestly scared to eat here, I feel like the food handling just isn't up to par.

MMM!!! Delicious!! We discovered this place after signing up at Planet Fitness around the corner. It's a great after gym spot with tons of options from gyros to salads! The prices are extremely affordable too! It has some kinda outdoor seating options (two tables outside) which makes for an even more awesome ambiance!

I had the beef gyro, two of them for about $6, with the yogurt sauce. Really freaking delicious. It's random, but they put a couple french fries into the gyro as well. Handcut fries=awesome.

I miss the old Pita Pan, when it was next door.  You can get a couple of cheap falafels (you'll need to get at least two) really quickly, or a huge bowl of greasy french fries, or an okay Greek Salad for a low enough price.  They're tasty.

HOWEVER:

You will assaulted by the absolute worst music you have ever heard.  Get delivery or get out quick.

Ok. I love the music but honestly....I'm eating a small portioned costume made sandwich - this doesn't click.

If you're going to have techno music let it be a:
1) night club
2) boutique/clothing store
3) blasting on your radio at home, party, in car
..... not a gyro place....

I'm going to be honest with you, I like the food but when it comes to quality and price.... it's not really worth it. It's one of those
"I'll eat here cause I feel like I'm fat"

and/or

"I'll eat here cause I don't have enough cash but I don't want to look cheap because I love my ego way too much"

& yes, the staff doesn't care about you. they look miserable like they partied all night went to bed at 5 am and woke up at 7 am - yes that kind of miserable. when I order something the employees make it seem like I'm ordering them to do slave work.

makes me wonder: maybe there's club music in here to wake these kids up.

& btw if you think you're going to lose weight just by coming here... think again. the only way you can lose weight is by taking care of yourself which means:

exercise - even walking up and down in a rectangle shape of 4 blocks for 15 minutes a day can help.

yes. eat small portions but that doesn't mean get small portions of extra oily meat and french fries. eat healthy. vegetables and fruits are way better than prescription drugs, surgeries and etc...

my cousin is over weight and she recently took my advice & she feels better: mentally, emotionally, and internally ! even the doctor noticed

so don't be fooled this place is as good as subway.

PS I haven't been there late night so not sure what the people are complaining about. It's a magical place.

Pita Pan offers some solid fast food. One gyro was around $3, so it is the perfect price point if you want to grab a small meal, or 2 of the gyros is plenty for a regular meal. I thought the beef gyro definitely had an edge over the chicken gyro. Also, you wouldn't think that a Greek/Mediterranean place would have good fries, but the thin, crisp fries are really good. In some ways, these were the star of the show.

I would recommend ordering a beef gyro and fries or also surprisingly, it is worth dropping by here for a milk shake.

I love their gyros. It's not the typical huge and messy type of gyro and the convenient wrapping holds it all in place. The fries are pretty good too =)

I think the point of this place is to be healthy...except of course if you're ordering fries and onion rings =P

The smoothies though were sorta bland but the whole wheat pizza is pretty good...as most whole wheat pizzas...

But the thing that draws me the most to this place is the gyros.

so yes...GO GYRO!!!

The 3 stars are for the food only. For greek fast-food, you really can't do much better. The souvlaki and gyro meat is delicious. Their paninis and salads are also pretty darned good.

However... since Pita Pan moved locations 2 doors down from their former (still vacant) location... I really can't go in there. The loud thumping techno music is beyond headache inducing. And it's usually so chock-full of teenagers just hanging out, it becomes a chore to get to the register.

Delivery ain't much better. They usually put you on hold for 5 minutes before they can take your order. And then it usually takes about an hour or so to actually get your food (and I live just down the street!).

The food's great! Everything else... not so much.

The novelty of this place wore off REAL quick.  It's cool if you leave the Rover at like 2 am mega wasted and your taste buds aren't working correctly ...

Under normal circumstances ... their portions are rather small (and overpriced), the staff could care less that you're there, and sometimes the food is unusually ... not fresh.

If I ever order from them these days its just a couple of smoothies to go along with dinner.

In a fit of extreme hunger, I ran into Pita Pan with several friends for a quick meal. I got a burger with avocado - I was so excited, I could live off avocado. When my burger arrived, I looked for my beloved piece of food only to find two sad little smushed pieces of avocado. Poor little guys. I ate them immediately, then devoured my burger, and promptly felt greasy and disgusting.

My friends both got gyros and said they were alright - maybe it was an off day? We haven't been back to Pita Pan since, but we fondly shout out the name when we feel like getting some attention. It's impossible to say without sounding just a little bit stupid.

For a quick bite when you are on the go, or even for a place to order in from, Pita Pan is really a great choice. Their pitas and wraps are really good. A friend of mine from out of town who's visited NYC twice in the last year has said this is his favorite place to eat in Astoria. While I wouldn't go that far, I will say that I really enjoy it.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is not what I'd consider great for eating in. The music is typically loud and annoying techno. But like I said, I always take it to-go or I get it delivered. The food tastes good and is inexpensive. What more can you ask for from a Greek fast-food joint?

Oh Pita Pan, no one will ever be as grateful for you as I was on New Years day 2009. I drank and drank until I woke up in queens, minus one earring and mysteriously gaining one 100% cashmere scarf, which I'm wearing as I type this love letter to you.

Pita Pan your menu wowed me as I fought off the double vision that was making it nearly impossible for me to order my gyros, burgers, fries and other hangover cure alls, one last parting gift of 2008. Because we ordered over a certain price you threw in two free pizzas, which we promptly devoured after delivery. I remember taken note that your food was unlike the other fast food joints we had ordered from days before, your food seemed fresh and devoid of grease, something I usually don't expect from most delivery places. Suffice it to say, it was the perfect day to sit in and watch crappy TV. While struggling to remember the names of those you made out with hours before, all thanks to you Pita Pan; especially those extra pizzas and super large order of fries no one could finish.

The food was delicious and cheap, my favorite combination!

I had a chicken gyro and some fries - the fries are seasoned with amazing and the gyros are small enough to chow down on two for a meal. I would only get take out though, the music was awfully loud (and bad). They also played commercials for the place on the pillar of TVs near the order area. I'd recommend take out unless you love to eat in a dance club. Then by all means!

The bathroom, mais oui, is clean and large. The rest of the place was clean and spacious - but for some reason no one was staying to eat! Hm!

This place was pretty solid.  It's got a cool, airy feel in the cute little Astoria neighborhood and I got my falafel on for around $5.  I choose the "build your own pita" option where I could pick four items - falafel, hummus, cucumbers and feta on a whole wheat pita.  Everything in it was so fresh and while it took them a bit of time to make, I knew they were making it right when I ordered it.  It was really filling, too!

I work with a lot of greeks who dubbed me the name "kouklamoo" and they told me that the gyros from this place is pretty close to how they make it back home in Greece. The meat, onions, tomatoes, Tzatziki sauce and crispy shoestring french fries wrapped in a toasted pita is pretty tasty from this place. I love greek food and if this is pretty similar to authentic gyros (which btw is pronounced hiros not gy-ros) then I'll take seconds, better yet thirds. Trust me, I'm well aware that I'm a heifer.  MOO!

For falafels though, take yourself to THEE BEST Falafel joint in Astoria called Pita Hot (my first review).

After a long night out on New Years eve I awoke at noon and looked to order some grub. With Seamless Web's new availablity in Astoria and a $5 promo code to redeem, I found Pita Pan on their limited list of delivery options. A full forty minutes later I had two gyros in hand that had the appearance of Taco Bell chalupas and tasted like a chihuahuas taint. In other words, despite their annoyingly creative name, Pita Pan is pretty pathetic. Never again. Any positive reviews of this place are from people that have never been to BZ Grill and had a real gyro. My roommate said the pizza blows too.

why with the loud music? it's completely unbearable to sit in there. The bass, my god- the bass. It's like a dance club, but instead of dancing, you order pitas.

But what good pitas they are. They're small. You may want 2-3 if you're a bit hungry. They're tightly wrapped, and delicious. Falafel and Chicken Gyro are my favorites. The fries are also quite good. They're shoestring style, and instead of being fried and crispy, they're kind of floppy and baked? tasting. I loved them, but there's few french fries I don't love. One serving is probably enough for two.

They're also quite quick, not fast food quick, but think 5-7 minutes quick. Overall, really good pitas at a good price with a side of hot beats.

I was here before at some point in 2006. I gather that was before these renovations people are talking about. At that time, I ate in, and the food was good, but not great. Better than this time, that's for sure.

Now I ordered take-out delivery tonight, to give it a try (I really wanted a pita). I got the Loukaniko pita with the fries and salad. Now, if you don't know, loukaniko is a Greek sausage. This place is in Astoria, a Greek neighborhood. The loukaniko pita was kind of a let down. It wasn't as flavorful as it could have been, and the garlic in the pita's sauce (tziki, sp?) overrided (or is it overrode) all other flavors. Also, the pita itself was kind of small. I imagine the staff thinks that they can do that since they give you a lot of fries and a salad with the combo.

The fries were good, but probably would do better had I not had them delivered, which made them limp and stuck together in one giant mass. I won't fault Pita Pan for this since this happens to all french fries when delivered. They did have a nice flavor, but the soggy limp hunk of mess kind of turned me off.

I love me some eggplant, so I decided to try the Roasted Eggplant Dip. At least, that's what I asked for. It looked like eggplant, it sounded like eggplant, I just wish I could say it tasted like eggplant. It was all garlic (again!). Now, I like garlic, don't get me wrong, but Pita Pan, you should know, there are other flavors out there. In fact, I'm ordering things like Loukaniko and eggplant because I like their individual flavors. I'm not afraid of spices and altering flavors, that's what makes cooking awesome. But listen, Pita Pan, don't be afraid to branch out. I'm just saying.

And there was a chunk of what looked like chicken that had fallen into the middle of the eggplant, and then magically got covered up (unless it's supposed to be a hidden gem). It may have been cheese though, but really looked like a chicken. I did eat it to see. It kind of grossed me out, and if I were trying to keep vegetarian, I probably would have been upset, so all you veggie-ites out there, just watch out. Oh, and $5 to whomever can guess why I couldn't tell if it was chicken or cheese (it had the consistency of both, oddly enough).

I didn't even bother with the salad. I was afraid they may have put garlic on my greens.

Maybe I came here on an off night? I don't know.  The staff was nice and the prices were good, but the food was pretty bad, We got a Greek salad, a selection of three dips (hummus, eggplant dip, and tzatziki) + pita bread, and a falafel pita.  The dips were all just eh with the eggplant being the best of the three.  The pita bread  was decent.  My sister didn't really eat her salad (and she usually eats everything :)) and my falafel was horrendous.  I guess I'll give this place another shot since they're near by, but it was pretty bad.

Pita Pan has fantastic grilled whole wheat wraps. You pick and choose your own ingredients and I think I might have invented a real winner: eggs, grilled onions, swiss cheese and olive spread.

The service is typically fast, but sometimes you have to wait quite a while to get your food.

The music at times is a bit loud, but you can sit outside in the warmer weather  and escape it.

If bad, blaring techno and mediocre food is your idea of a good time, you'll LOVE Pita Pan.

The music is overly loud from the street, inside it's unbearable. After I yelled out my order, it took about ten minutes to make my one chicken pita. The portions are on the small but fine for the price. The chicken in my first bite was dry and bland, reminiscent of a fine cardboard, maybe a 2005 vintage. Subsequent bites weren't much better, only slightly improved by the admittedly good tzatziki sauce.

I'd be willing to go back to try some of their other food and some of their tasty-sounding sauces but I won't be expecting much. I've heard bad things about their delivery service so I'll be calling my order in and wearing earplugs to pick it up.

It has a cozy look, but i was disappointed with the end result. The portions are extremely small for the price you pay and the quality is the what you expect. I had tried them when they first opened and they had one of the best products. It's unfortunate that things have changed so much. For now  i am better off going to a stand for gyro.

Went in here again for a quick dinner, HUGE mistake! That maniac was behind the counter, I should have turned around right when I saw him and walked out. Hearing the music and seeing him should have been my cue to turn and run. I don't know why I bothered ordering from here, but was hungry and didn't feel like walking any further.

Tried to place my usual order, gyro plate, figured I'd survive the music for the 10 minutes it takes to eat this meal. The girl behind the counter couldn't hear me and I had to repeat myself several times, while being distracted by the guy behind the counter dancing in place, sweating and waving his hands in the air, it looked like he was doing this for a while with the sweat he built up. There's a gym down the block if you're looking to burn some calories. I then proceeded to make a comment to him, he was holding some sort of remote to the sound system, told him, "don't you think the music is a little too loud, people can't place their orders."

He then yelled, "What? You don't like?", but I couldn't really make out all the words he was saying the music was too loud, he proceeded to put the volume up with the remote and kept it there, while dancing more wildly. He was now directly behind the girl who took my order, she stared straight right at me with a horrified look, he made her completely uncomfortable. I thought he was doing this as a joke, but he was staring right at me bopping his head up and down in an aggressive manner. I tried to smile and laugh, thinking ha ha funny, but when he didn't laugh back I realized he was serious.

This is the last time I step foot in this place or even order take out, I just feel bad as the rest of the staff is normal and no one should have to deal with someone like that.

I do love puns and delicious food, so Pita Pan? I've got to crow about this one. You'll never land a bad meal here! You & your shadow are going to want to eat here!

...Okay, I'm done. Because mainly if I kept doing that, I wouldn't get to talk about how yummy the food was. Having never eaten there before the renovations, I can't speak to whether or not it was better or anything like that. But as of now, they have really delicious options for making a pretty good meal. I did a create your own wrap with a terribly inauthentic but just as terribly delicious combination of falafel, avocado, grilled mushrooms, and olive spread. Could not have been more delicious. And while Andrew J. can talk about his own food, as I did have about a quarter of his fries I can attest that those were delicious as well.

For me, they lost a star because their take-out containers were really messy and made the food kind of gross, and they forgot Andrew J.'s salad, but still, quibbles. I guess you could say I'm hooked! (Done, seriously...)

Pita Pan is one of my favorite places to order food from in Astoria. ITS SO GOOD!
I always get a wrap. It took me a while to find the right combo but once I did I was addicted. Whole wheat wrap with grilled chicken, feta spread, cucumbers, and roasted peppers. Yum! The salads are also really good and I really like the hummus too. My boyfriend loves the paninis and fries too.
I agree the music is way too loud in there and it feels like a club. I almost expect to see a bunch of tan guys in tank tops with glitter on their chests trying to dance in there. But like someone else mentioned, you can wait outside, or like me you can have it delivered.
Definitely try it out.

i don't understand what the bitching is about in some of these reviews. i've eaten here for years--when they were still on the corner and then when they moved next door. the food is super tasty, filling, and moderately priced. do i go to sit there and hang out with my friends so i can listen to euro house shitty music? no. do i go there to pick up one of the waxed-eyebrowed, tight diesel shirt-wearing, greek lotharios? no. i go there to grab a quick meal and peace the f out. do you walk into mcdonald's for the ambiance and the crowd? i mean, seriously moronic.

they have healthier options, like substituting whole wheat pita for regular, falafels, and salads. whatever. i go there for the pork souvlaki sandwiches filled with tzatziki, french fries, onions, and tomatoes. and the beautiful, sloppy, generously spiced fries that all meld together like a mass of love. i also get a side order of the spiced feta spread, and it's a pretty fantastic, greasy and awesome meal.

when i order from there, it's nice to know they take credit card orders over the phone, including the tip. it's a rare and wonderful thing in astoria to be able to order food via delivery and pay by cc. they also have my address on file when i call from my house.

quick. convenient. yummy. what else are you looking for?
peace out bitches!

Craving a wrap from my beloved, temporarily out of commission Sanford's, I turned to Pita Pan last night in my moment of need.  Not only are they on seamless web (so you can easily order online with a credit card) but their food is tasty, fresh, and affordable to boot.  We had a BBQ burger and a whole wheat veggie wrap with hummus-- both were awesome.  My only complaint would be that the whole wheat "wrap" was not what I expected, since it was really pita-like in nature, but it was yummy anyway.  Oh and we had cheese fries-- I'm not a big fry person but WOW their hand cut fries are delicious.  Watch out, arteries!

It's cheap, it's conveniently located, and it's tasty. I've only ever ordered the falafels and I haven't been let down yet. I tend to order for delivery because the actual establishment is unbearable for me to go near. It's very loud and, call me an old lady, but I can't handle it. If money is running low and I don't feel like cooking, Pita Pan it is.

If you're ever in the mood for hot, delicious, and fast Greek food- this is your answer. Their gyros with the fries in them are heaven sent, cheese fries- just marry me. The one time we ordered so much food they threw in a free meat lovers pizza that was better than most pizza pies I've had here for some weird reason. Awesome "junk" food, and great prices, fast delivery- try it, so worth it! And even though it maybe fast-foodish, you don't pay for it later on if ya nahmean- so that's good news!

I have been here a couple of times in the recent weeks. I usually go here after I finish up my workout at NYSC . They do have some healthy options (salads and whole wheat pitas) here that won't sabotage your workout.  I have had all of the gyro meats and the souvlakis pita sandwiches which are all tasty. The price is right and the staff is courteous.  Another plus is they are on http://seamlessweb.com. If your in the area I would recommend dropping in here for lunch.

To me, Pita Pan is like a drug, and I, unfortunately, am an addict. When they first re-opened, I actually had Pita Pan for dinner 5 nights in a row. (I'm so ashamed). But I cant help it! Their beef gyro is soo f'n yummy! The beef has a sweet and salty taste and the bread is warm and chewy and yummy carbolicious. I cant rate any other gyro's because I have found my soulmate within the beef and have no interest in cheating on him.

I LOVE THEIR FRIES! They are handcut very thin and seasoned with herbs. They are the only NON-CRISPY fries that I like, and thats saying a lot. I've actually found myself digging into the corner crevices of the box the fries come in, just to be able to have the last taste of fry crumbs. Best of all, everything is SUPER affordable.

After reading this review over, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna die of obesity/heart failure by the time I reach 30....but in the meantime- PITA PAN 4EVA haha.
