    I blame the iPhone.

I own one you see and I haven't enjoyed it at all since I purchased it. I loved my Blackberry, but of course the Yelp App on the iPhone is AWESOME and you can't live without it, so I caved. Of course, for some reason I haven't been able to actually download it because iTunes doesn't like me either for some reason. Clearly, either the i's are out to get me or I really am a complete and utter technotard. I am assuming it's the latter. But anyway...

I had an eye appointment today and was starving. My tummy was a grumblin' and I needed to eat STAT. As I walked by Chin Chin's I thought, nah. Then came Jamba Juice, nah, not substantial enough. And then I caught a whiff of something that smelled awesome. What is that? Where is that coming from? Oh, it's from this Pita Kabob place! Sweet, let's check it out, I thought. (Us being me and my hungry belly)

Now had I not just been walking by and actually looking stuff up at home to try, obviously the low star rating would have deterred me and since the iPhone app was not mine, I chanced it and it failed. Big time.

For starters, as soon as I walked in, I thought the prices seemed kinda high. I stared at the menu for awhile and the guy stood by the register waiting for my order. Inner dialogue: "Hmmm, $12 for a plate of beef shawarma? Hmmm, there was a place by my old office that sold it for $6.99. Maybe I should leave? But I'm friggin starving!! Why are you dressed like a man, stephy? Would it kill you to put on makeup? Oh, wait, my order..."

I decided to go with the shawarma upon his suggestion. After paying, I grabbed a table in the empty restaurant and waited. There was some loud obnoxious program on the TV, so I tried to tune it out and started reading the menu. That is when I saw LUNCH SPECIALS way off to the side of the main menu. Hmm, beef shawarma with rice and humus: $8.99? What the?

I then walked up to the counter and said, "Hi, I just noticed you had a lunch special for the exact thing I ordered?" He said, "Oh yeah." Assuming he would have taken the hint that, hello, why didn't you tell me the exact thing was available for a few bucks less, he continued to wrap up my meal and said, "Next time."

Next time? Yeah, that is totally going to happen, sir.

Now let's talk about the food. I have never had shawarma, but if it is supposed to taste like dry tire tread, then, ummm, I don't get the appeal. This was horrible. So dry. Yuck. The hummus was okay and the rice was good, but for a $15.00 lunch, c'mon.

I wish I would have had the Yelp App to check first, but I didn't, so let this be a warning to all of you other iPhone users who haven't yet downloaded the Yelp App. Do it, save yourself the money and time wasted on a crappy meal like I had today!

    That is all.

I love PIta Kitchen too - better food and better prices.

Got a chicken pita type sandwich that was ok, but not worth $10. Also tried some cookies and baklava that weren't very good.

    The service was decent.

The food is good. BUT, the service is terrible.  This place probably will not last.  My own experience and that of friends that work in the neighborhood is the same.  During the lunch rush one would expect to order and receive their food in less than 15min.  Well, this place takes 30-40 mins.  The excuse is that they are making your food 'fresh'.  Tell me, does it really take 30 mins to make a chicken shawarma sandwich when there are no one else in the restaurant?!

And for the person with the previous post... from what I heard Panda Express was doing OK, but the property owners were raising the rent to extremes.

Good luck Pita Kabob... you're gonna need it.

They opened earlier this week.  The food is pretty good but the prices are way too high.  Also, parking is an issue.  There used to be a Panda Express at the same location and it didn't survive because of the parking situation I believe.  Let's hope this place lasts.

I have never reviewed a place without eating there but, here goes.  One night I found a parking spot on the street and decided to go in since I had a coupon.  Two men were sitting outside smoking and the girl inside motioned for them to come in,  They went in and got behind the stove to cook without washing their hands.  I left and haven't been back.  Also their prices were way to high for a small strip joint.

I'm in love with Pita Kitchen in Sherman Oaks, but when this place opened down the street from me I had to try it and compare.  On my way home I stopped in and ordered my usual... a chicken shawerma sandwich, to go.  I noticed they highlight some really pricey items which is odd since the place isn't that different in atmosphere from the Panda Express that used to occupy the location.  Anyway... I got home to find a bunch of dried out chicken breast pieces and some pickles.  It didn't taste like shawerma to me.  And there was no lettuce as promised.  So far strike one.

It's gone!  Closed in December 2009.  Another victim of the recession.  Sad for Studio City as it was a good place.  Landlord must really be hard nosed because there was already one empty eatery in the same complex (Camila's Cafe?).
