Pita Inn (Middle Eastern) is one of the greatest dining values in Chicagoland and has food as good as the best I've had in the Middle East!  My personal favorite is the Vegetarian Combination Plate with a Mint Tea and a Kinafa dessert (a bit like cheesecake-baklava).

This location is very busy and parking can be tough during meal times, but there are two other locations in Wheeling and Glenview with more parking.

I have written a review for other locations and same applies here.
Been coming here for many years and its still the best middle eastern fast food joint in Chicago.  Reza's is too far away, so this is the next best option.

Now they started charging 50 cents for a soda refill, c'mon!  Still the pricing is pretty decent, so I guess I can live with the refill cost.

My only issue is that sometimes the shish kabob is tough to chew and the kifta kabob is at times overcooked.

Pita Inn is one of those places that is quite near and dear to my heart.  Having grown up in the neighborhood and eaten here countless times since the mid 90's, I've got to say that things are just as good now as they were back then.  I still come back several times a year.  Sure the space is much larger and maybe nicer than before, the food however continues to be exceptionally affordable, consistent, and flavorful.

When looking at the menu, there are only three things I haven't had on the menu.  Yeah, I brag about my gluttony.  :)  My go to dishes are the Kifta and Lamb kabob entrees.  My favorite item on the menu however is the gourmet Jerusalem sandwich.  The shawarma to me could be better however.  For the first timer, the combo entree will quickly set your bearings.  The menu however is loaded with tasty items.

For those that are getting take out, there are two things I would recommend.  If your group is extra hungry, pad your order with a bag of dozen falafel and then go next door and pick up a bag of pita's.  Also, don't forget to walk up to the counter and ask for to go containers of the yogurt/tahini and hot sauces.

The stories of having to wait and tables not being available are true.  Over the years the wait has gotten shorter with the opening of their additional restaurants, but it's still not great during the busy lunch and dinner hours.  The wait isn't Hot Doug's or Weiner & Still Champion bad, but do expect a crowd at peak times.

    Some cool highlights:
They have one of those turbo excellerator hand driers in the bathroom.  Feel the powah!
The Bakery/store next door is worth a stroll if you've never been.  The baba, hummus, dolma, pita's, and others are all available here in conveniently big sizes.

There is basically nothing I love more than Pita Inn. I'm serious. I worked in Skokie for a few years, and whenever I had a bad day at work, I would head to Pita Inn for a delicious falafel and Jerusalem salad. Sometimes, I would pick up pita and hummus to take home, because the hummus is just the best I've found in the city.
Now that I'm no longer regularly in the area, it's harder to get my fix, but I still make it a couple of times a year. Even if it's swamped at lunch time, it's still worth the wait. Everything is good. Everything. yum. yum. Now I'm starving.

Hands down the greatest restaurant of all time.

I ate lunch here on my wedding day.  Yes indeed, my three groomsmen and I devoured a feast fit for kings about three hours before "kickoff."  In fact, it was one of the wedding events that I planned the earliest and looked forward to the most.  I can think of no greater compliment.

Perhaps my wife and I should make this an anniversary tradition...

I love this place! It's always been crowded but I've never had to wait long to get my chicken shawarma. The parking also sucks. But where else can I find a deliciously spiced chicken shawarma for under $6? Also, I don't live in the area so I  have to make an excuse to hang out with my friend who lives in the area and drive an 1 hour+ so I can get mah fix.

Thanks to Yelp I found this place and bookmarked it.  Then one day we were driving down Dempster and I remembered that bookmark.  It was 11:30am and there was already a crowd here.  We formed a quick game plan.  I grabbed a table and my party went to order.  I am so glad that I did because I think we got the last table.

I had the shawarma sandwich, which consists of thin slices of lightly seasoned beef served in a pita with lettuce, tomato and tahini sauce.  The meat was really good but it was a little dry...not a bad dry...in fact, I saved my shawarma by adding more tahini sauce and a spicy red sauce too.  The sauces were so yummy.

My little one had the Chicken Tender Sandwich.  She liked the grilled chicken at first but then she started to see the spices on the chicken and she was done.  She really loved the pita...she was dipping it in the tahini sauce.  I inherited her chicken and it was really tasty.  Typically chicken can be over cooked but the chicken here was perfect.

My wife had the falafel sandwich but Jerusalem Style which means that potatoes and cucumbers are added.  A falafel consists of deep fried patties of seasoned ground chick peas and vegetables and served in a pita along with lettuce, tomato and tahini sauce.  I have to tell you that this sandwich was hands down the winner out of our three sandwiches.  I usually pick the right thing but not this time.  I wish I would have gotten this but there is always next time.

I wanted to try the split pea soup but it didn't happen.  Remember I was camping out at the table...I tried wishful thinking but it wasn't on our tray of food.  I also was not going to wait in the line that was now out into the parking lot.  I thought it was crowded when I walked in.  I have no idea what it is like at other times but do not come here on a Saturday for lunch unless you live close by and are doing a carry out order.

After we were done eating we went out to check the bakery.  We saw the guy making the pitas...it was very interesting to see the process.  It kind of reminded me of Lucy making chocolates.  This poor one guy was running the whole machine and he was rocking and rolling.  He even grabbed a tissue paper and handed a hot fresh pita to my daughter.  She was so happy...that guy rocked!!!  Just amazing customer service.

I will come back next time I am in the area, plus you can not beat the price of a sandwich here.  All sandwiches are under 5 bucks.  That is an incredible deal.  Good luck finding that in downtown Chicago!!!

I have been coming to "Pita Inn" for over 8 years now. I absolutely love this place, from their freshly baked, warm pita bread (bakery is right next door where they make pita bread everyday) to their falafel.

Here you can please the vegetarian and the carnivore at the same time. From sandwiches to combination plates you will find something you like. I introduce my meat eating husband to "Pita Inn" a couple of years ago and he loves it, he started by just having the combination plate, then slowly he started trying new things, hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh salad and now even falafel.

I have not tried better Mediterranean food than this, no other places compare to "Pita Inn". Service is good and the food is delicious. It is small but you will always find a table (you have to find your own table). Don't forget to leave a couple of dollars to the boy that cleans the tables, he is good at turning tables fast.

I like the little market next door, you can find fresh olives, nuts, teas and even hookahs!

Pita Inn is a great place for a quick and delicious bite at an amazing price.

I got the chicken shawarma sandwich and a small hummus. The pita was delicious, the chicken had a great spice and flavor and the hummus was soooo good. I would go back here in a second. Sultans Market in the city has nothing on this place.

It was definitely busy and there was a line, but we didn't have to wait a ridiculous length of time before our food was ready. It was a dated restaurant, but who cares? Seating was easy and comfortable. Fast food, but so much better tasting and for you than the burger joint down the street.

    Sold.

On second Yelp, I'm downgrading my 5 star ranking. Despite the delicious food and late hours I am a bit dismayed at the higher prices. What I loved about Pita Inn was their affordability for the quality and taste.  While you can still get a cheap deal on the business lunch special for $5, M-F, falafel pieces, hummus/baba, or sandwhiches, the price of entrees like my beloved chicken shawarma at a stiff $9.10+ with tax (the online menu prices are wrong, I believe it's $8.50 without tax now at the Skokie location) is just too high.  You do receive a good portion of chicken and rice pilaf and the taste and tenderness of the chicken calls my name at least once per week, but at $9+ a pop it's becoming a bit of a hindrance.

Will I still come to PI often? Sure will because I'm addicted and a drive from West Rogers Park is not too far, but I just have to say I'm not happy.

The crappy lettuce and half slice of tomato you receive with your chicken shawarma entree is not worth whatever extra cost is passed down to you.

Bring back the $7 entree fee for this and other entree items. It's only fair.

Once upon a falafel, in a place not so far away, unless you live in Joliet, there was a Pita Inn serving Meditteranean/Arab food close to my heart.  What?  You're still a Meditteranean/Arab food virgin?  Fear not!  Stop on by for their awesome Business lunch specials (available M-F b/w 1130-2p except holidays)!

What is a Business lunch special you ask?  Its a plate of yummy meats (lamb kabobs, grilled beef pieces, grilled chicken breast), lettuce, tomatoes, rice, falafel, hummos served with a side of pita.

Trust me, you will live happily ever after you eat - that is, until that urge comes lurking back and you feel you need to eat another lunch special but oh no, its Saturday.  So what - who cares!?!  Pay a little extra and treat yourself to their delicious morsels.  Ah, what a treat!

Don't forget to try their Kinnafa dessert (orange flaky top with sweet honey flavored base).

    The End...

I love Mediterranean food, and I've had food from this place twice at catered events, once on campus at Northwestern and once during an internship. I finally came here in person with my roommate and another friend. My roommate and I split the combination feast, and the other friend got the combination feast just for himself, and it was the perfect amount of food. Overall, everything was tasty and pretty standard for this type of food. I would come here more if I had a car, as it's just far enough that I'm not willing to walk here.

From everything I had heard about Pita Inn, I was expecting a "blow me out of the water 5-star" experience.  And maybe that's the problem.  The bar was set a little high...

What this place definitely has going for it: AMAZING prices (and generous portion sizes), really good falafel, tasty warm pita, good hummus.

What I thought was less awesome: the crazy waiting area in the front where no one could tell what was line to order/what was people waiting for carryout, the dude reading out the numbers who mumbled everything and wouldn't repeat it so no one knew if their food was ready, and (most disappointing to me) - the bland sauce that came with the falafel.  Even after mixing it with the red spicy sauce, it just didn't do it for me.

I'll definitely be back - at these prices, how could I not?  And hopefully I'll be able to upgrade the rating after trying more of the menu items!

Seriously? I haven't written a review for Pita Inn, what can I say that hasn't been said. I live on the south side of town but anytime we're within 20 miles of a Pita Inn we try to stop by for lunch.

This location can get crowded at times, especially during lunch, but the staff handles the rush hour quite well. The business lunch special is a great deal, the food is always tasty.

Parking can be difficult here at times but we usually find a spot in the small strip mall just west of it, their bakery is there so I guess it's cool, I've never had a problem.

I feel some kind of moral obligation to my stomach to come eat at Pita Inn at least once or twice a year.

The service is kind of diner-ish -- wherein you queue up, place your order, and pick it up when they call your number after a few minutes wait (it usually isn't too long a wait). There are a lot of tables to sit at, but the place can get pretty crowded during peak hours. Parking is kind of rough at these times, but it isn't the worst thing in the world. Service (ie. cashiers, chefs, and bus boys) is kind, efficient, and professional.

The food is fantastic! Most entrees come with your choice of meat (lamb, chicken, beef, combination, etc), rice pilaf, salad, and sometimes a falafel. Everything is so delicious and the portions are pretty generous. The meat is cooked perfectly tender and all the fixin's are fresh and complementary. The pita is warm and soft, and it goes great with their hummus. I definitely recommend trying your meal with the 2 supplied side sauces: tahini yogurt and hot sauce. If you're up for dessert, their baklava is pretty delicious as well.

Prices are pretty good, but the best is the 11am - 3pm lunch special. You get a ton of great food for $4.95.

Hands down, Pita Inn has some of the best Mediterranean food for your buck in all of Chicagoland.

You can't go wrong with this place because everything on the menu is literally good. I've been coming here and the other location on Golf rd. for many years. They're consistent with putting out great food all the time. Plus they have a killer lunch special for like under $6 bucks. A long college summer spent cooking in a Lebanese bakery has earned me bragging rights as a baba gannouj connoisseur.  Having sampled baba from coast to coast and in between, Pita Inn is hands down the best baba I have ever had.  They even put the Middle Eastern bakery on Foster to shame in both the baba and pita chip department.

Next time you are at Pita Inn, go next door to the Pita Inn Market and pick up a container of their pita chips - rectangular season strips of crispy goodness.  Damn I wish this place were in the city.

Used to love Pita; not so much anymore. Here's what's happened to me the last few times I've been there:

    1. Ordered the chicken fatuoosh salad, which I love, for carryout. When I get home, I see what I got was the chicken fatuoosh salad minus the chicken.  Not a bit of bird in the picture.  So I call them and complain, and all they say is "sorry." About a month before this, I had ordered the salad and when I got it home there was no dressing on the thing. They need some quality control here!

    2. I don't like being addressed as "Boss."  The guys at the cash register may think that's cute, or sarcastic, but I don't like it.

    3. Last month we went with friends for dinner. We ordered two kibeah and four dinners. As usual (and I have no complaint about this), the kibiah was not finished when our dinners were. OK, no problem, they will let us know. Half an hour later, we are pretty much done eating, and still no kibeah. So I go up and check, and they say it's coming. At 45 minutes in, we have finished our dinners and are waiting, so I go up again and ask what's up? The guy tells me kibeah takes a while, which I know. I ask him if it takes 45 minutes and show him my receipt with the time shown on it. He checks with the cooks, and they all kind of shrug and he tells me it's on the way.  Our two kibeahs, way overcooked, finally show up about 55 minutes after we order them. No apologies. No offer for free Cokes. No nothing.

Not the way to treat customers. But I guess they don't figure they need my business, as they are very busy every night. So I guess I'll not be back in a LONG while.

For being fast food this place has great food, better then most sit down middle eastern restaurants. It is fast, cheap, and delicious. The falafal and hummus may be the best i have ever eaten. OMG and the pita is to die for. They are made fresh daily and very fluffy. The service was very fast and friendly. They gave us free hummus because our order took a little longer then usual. You can have a fast great meal here for less then ten dollars. I highly recommend it

Pita Inn is legendary among people in general, but also among my group of friends from home. We recently discovered it for group outings (talk about tardy to the party...), and we are glad we have.

Many people praise how Pita Inn offers quantity for low prices. That's not the whole story, though - Pita Inn refuses to coast on its reputation, offering a wide variety of tasty, imaginative Middle Eastern dishes. I doubt any are priced above $10 or even $7-8. I'm pretty sure I got my chicken shwarma pita (with hummus please!) plus a small drink for around $7. (That would barely cover a salad at Panera!)

Beyond low prices, though, the focus these folks put on their food is evident. The chicken shwarma is always flavorful and juicy without being fatty. The pitas will make you feel as if you are biting into small, doughy clouds. For realz. The hummus is also amazing.

It will probably be crowded whenever you go. And it's a bit annoying to hear a very loud microphone broadcasting whatever number comes up. Still, the people who work here are nice enough and manage crowds very well, second to only Doug from Hot Doug's (at least from my experience).

For just $5 bucks, you can get a whole lunch entree with choice of meat, rice, and salad. Yummy yummy goes your tummy for lunch.  Then after a long day of being awesome, you need a late-night spot to refill your empty tummy. Look no further than Pita Inn.  Kabob sandwiches for under $5 - Schwarma entrees for about $7-8 bucks (and its a hefty amount of food).

What's that? You are thirsty and not sure what to get?  Take my advice and get the fresh hot mint tea.  Nothing more than delciousness hitting your soul.

    Cheers my fellow yelpers!

so.. i just got back from eating at pita inn...AND omg! NASTY! i grew up eating middle eastern food, and this place is nothing what i was expecting! Since ive moved here from california, ive been to many different mediterranean restaurants...I was totally craving some good mediterranean food, i was kind of home sick....And this place did not hit the spot. the only thing i liked was the bread. The chicken was dry and crunchy.. the rice tasted like it was out of the box..kind of like rice peal off from a box! YUCK! oh n their babba ganuge..how ever you want to spell it.. was disgusting ! bottom line... i would NEVER! EVER! go back to eat there AGAIN! OH and i usually recommend awesome place i eat at to all my friends and clients...BUT NOT THIS ONE!!! i will let them know how horrible the food was!!! DONT GO THERE!

We are not often in the neighborhood. My partner was reminded of Pita Inn, a local chain on the northside, that had some good food. That statement is an understatement.

When we came in around 715p. First, the parking lot was a madhouse. Seriously couldn't find parking at first. Instead you feel like you're defending your life. We struggled to the front counter and ordered dinner to go. We went next door to the market to kill some time. I believe it was about a 20 minute wait, which was not that much considering the traffic.

After we got our combo veggie plate and a combo feast, we raced home as soon as we could. Waiting those 18 minutes were painful as we smelled what awaited our tongues. We were not disappointed. It was truly delicious. Everything was seasoned just right -- not too salty -- and the temperature was still spot on.

It's not the cheapest at $37 for two meals, an app and soup but it was well worth it, both in flavor and portions. We'll be going back for sure.

We came here for dinner right before the 4th of July fireworks.

    1. Chicken shawarma entree, 8.50 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Thin slices of marinated chicken cooked on a slowly revolving rotisserie served with rice pilaf, salad and our homemade pita bread.
~Yummy. Everything was pretty good, although I suppose the chicken was slightly on the dry side. Still, it was pretty good.

    2. Falafels, 0.5
~Pretty good, one of the better falafels I've had.

Definitely would come here more often if I lived closer.

Oh how I miss my Pita Inn!!!  I cannot get enough of this place, I basically lived here!  I can eat at this place 3 times a day, everyday and never get sick of it.  I have eaten here at least every day for months, and it was always great!  Never go at lunch or dinner time.  You must time it so there is a place to park and you're not waiting out the door.  Order ahead if possible!

I tend to eat a certain dish over and over again until I decide it's time for a change.  First it was the Business Lunch; can't go wrong at $4.95 for the amount of food they give you in that!  Then later it changed to Hummus with Beef Shwarma; a little bit of hot sauce and a side of rice..drool!  And then the Falafel Sandwich.  And no matter what I got or what time I got my food, I will always have a Baklawa, they make it the best!  Then the market next door is awesome.  Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and they also freeze food for you to take home if you like.  They have their desserts and pastries there too, and everything you need to have your own Pita Inn restaurant right in your kitchen.  It's just an amazing place to go!

The food is so cheap, the food is fresh (bakery is right next door), the service is quick and friendly, and it's always a great place to go!  I've been to tons of Mediterranean restaurants, and nothing ever beats Pita Inn.  Once you have it, you crave it all the time!  Love it!

I have being going to Pita Inn since I was in college (about 15 years).  They have great mainstreamed middle eastern food at great prices.  The only reason they don't get five stars is because i save that rating for places that make my toes curl.

The run down: you place your order at the counter (or better, call it in) and take a number. Use this time to grab a table because the place will probably be packed.  They call you to come get it when its ready.  Make sure to ask for extra pita if you ordered hummus or babaganoush and make sure to get extra sauce (white or red, as you prefer).

I love to cook but on the rare occasion that I am not in the mood, Pita inn is our go-to spot.  They do what they do well.
