Meh. The falafel sandwich I got was dry and so cold it was probably taken out of the fridge moments before. I doused everything in tzatziki to infuse some flavor and moisture to the pita wrap. Though, the tabouleh salad on top was refreshing.
Also, the overhead menu is measly - which is too bad, because the actual menu has a nice selection - including some Indian flavors. A fast-food Mediterranean place could have really found a niche in University Village. So I hope the owners read this and dramatically change up their style. Either make it delicious or dirt cheap ( another Maxwell's) - or else the restaurant will tank faster than a Panda Express in Chinatown.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Scotty J.Portland, OR28688Apr 11, 2012
As far as quick Mediterranean options go for the area this is one of the better options. My co-worker and I come here often. He's vegan and I'm vegetarian so this has a few options for us. I'd rather get falafel from here than the subway next door. It's weird subway offers falafel now. The service is quick and I usually take it to go.

Horrible... and I love mediterranean food.,,, the chicken was so over-cooked andn dry I literally could snap it in half... and the pita was dried out and crunchy... Im sorry, I dont like to leave negative reviews, but I feel I have to warn people so they dont have to waste their money like i did... now im still hungry and out 10 bucks for nothing!! Shoulda just grabbed a sandwich at subway next door!

I like this place! With the platters, you get a lot of food. It's fresh, tastes good, and it's close to UIC. I get their Shawarma platter usually. Not a fan of the kafta. Haven't tried the falafel.
I grew up in Detroit, where there's a huge Arabic population, and I'm used to good Arabic food (this place is more Lebanese than pan-Mediterranean, although they also have Samosas). It's not the best Shawarma I've had, but it's not bad, and it's a good deal.
-1 star for slow service... seems like the guys take their time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jill E.Chicago, IL25Sep 9, 2012
This place is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. We ordered a falafel sandwich, a chicken shawarma platter, & hummus and finally got our food after waiting over 30 minutes. When we got home and started eating, we found that we did get what we ordered. Instead of giving us a falafel sandwich, we got a falafel platter instead. I am assuming they did this because the pita that they gave us was so stale and hard that you could not use them to make to make a sandwich. They were not warm and so hard that they broke into pieces when we tried to eat them. We could not eat them. Unbelievable- how does a place named Pita Belly serve such disgusting pita? On top of that, the falafel were so cold and tasted like they just came out of fridge. The chicken wasn't bad, but it was nothing special. Overall, I wouldn't recommend anyone to eat here and will never go back.
