Pita Bar & Grill.....my new favorite spot.

As a student of Fairfax High School, i have pretty much eaten everywhere in a 1 mile radius of the campus. This is by far my favorite place. Im trying to think of a comparison to relate this to someone who has had greek before, but Daphne's and Gabby's are nowhere near this caliber of delicious. I got the shwarma plate=$12. It was incredibly flavorful, aromatic, and delicious. My friend got the chicken plate. It looked straight out of a commercial. Do yourself a favor and drop on in. Plus the owner is great.....in many ways ;). Just go.

This place was decided upon by my friends and I after we saw it on Yelp. The ratings were so high we decided to try it out and it was fantastic.

The owner was there and he was so friendly, helping us order and constantly cleaning the restaurant. It was a smaller physical space but a great menu selection. The side bar with the pickled veggies wasn't my favorite thing but it might be someone else's taste.

I came in for a quick bite, I didn't want anything too filling, so the cute lady owner suggested I get the chicken pita.

Jesus! This pita was fresh and piping hot! I am a stickler for food being eaten at their proper temperatures: sushi should be eaten cold, and this delectable delight should be eaten hot off the grill. I was very impressed. It had a slaw, some picklish stuffing and all manner of deliciousness sheathed in a beautiful warm pita bread. I dabbled with all their different sauces, which were all right, but eating the pita alone was flavorful enough.

I stopped in to check it out on the way home from work.  It was OK.  I thought they skimped a lot on the meat on my sandwich, making up for it with yummy veggies, but still.  I'm used to going to authentic Greek places that LOAD the pita up with meat, and then overflow it with a little veggies.  No tzatzki either, which was disappointing.

When I first found this place on Yelp I was a bit skeptical.  I mean, how could a place do Pita and Grillin' that good.  I am happy to say that the reviews are all accurate and well deserved.  The Pita Bar and Grill is da bomb!

When I first stepped in I almost felt like I should have brought my passport because this place feels like the real deal.  Everything from the smells to the locals set the tone for an exceptional experience.

When I approached the cashier to place my order I found that he was the owner and so I decided to defer to him for my full order.  He ordered me the chicken platter and I got a mint lemonade.  Both were exceptional.

The chicken was cooked to perfection and still retained the juices that pop on your taste buds and the lemonade was like something someone's mom had made.  My friend got the Kafta platter and the meat on his plate, like mine, was perfect.

Each plate came with lentil rice and, speaking as someone that has had this rice since birth, I can honestly say it was one of the best I've ever had.

I highly recommend it as a healthy, delicious, inexpensive lunch spot.

I loved this place -  the decor could definitely be improved otherwise I would give it a 5 star.

Josi and Tanya immediately welcomed my friend into the restaurant with their friendly smiles and Israeli accents. The conversation quickly turned to the energy of Tel Aviv - how ALIVE that city is. These two are awesome. Very sababa!

I had the chicken kabab which was a ample and delicious meal with hummus, rice, hot pita bread, and a salad. Similar in quality to Pi on Sunset BUT this took about 5 minutes to make on the grill whereas Pi takes about 5 hours (slight exaggeration).

    Will definitely go back!

This place is great for a fast meal. I really like how they have a pickle bar and give have an assortment of sauces to choose from - mango chutney, jalapeno cilantro sauce, garlic sauce, and some others. I think this place incorporates some Indian flavors in their food which is probably why I love it so much.

    Recommendations:

Chicken Shawarma Plate (the seasoning on the tender chicken is really good; it also comes with hummus, a salad, and rice)

Eggplant Sandwich (roasted eggplant stuffed into a pita with hard boiled egg, other veggies, and some sauce)

So i'm just updating because with every passing year the food at PBG just gets better.
i go at least twice a month. But i could totally eat that food more. It NEVER disappoints me.

    The best:

Schwarma, grilled chicken breast, french fries (why are israeli FF so awesome?), lentil soup, cabbage salads, fried eggplant, babaganosh, falafel, homemade drinks, bourekas and baklava!

And the nicest people. I would be devastated if they ever went away!

Pita Bar & Grill  serves up one of the best falafel pita sandwiches in Los Angeles.

I remember stopping by this place when it  first opened up.   It has always been a welcoming experience.  I have been returning ever since, converting Zankou lovers with every order of falafel.  I was in the mood for the type of falafel I used to be able to get in NY, a hearty meal that would stay with me for the rest of the day, one loaded with kraut and red cabbage, an alternative to the ones I'd become accustomed to.

This place exceeded by expectations.  The condiment bar offers a nice distraction during the waiting time.  Where other places tend to skimp on the pickled beets, treating the side like a small bag of fries tied to the waist of your hamburger, Pita Bar welcomes you to load up an assortment of pickle veggies, including beets, cabbage with cauliflower and carrots with lemon.

The falafels themselves are flavorful, moist, not cakey or dry. They seem to compliment the rest of the pita nicely rather as opposed to  them standing apart from a mere salad. It is more of a  thoughtful sandwich than ingredients thrown together and tossed in a basket.   Once they bring your pita, you're free to experiment with sauces.

Amazing Mint Lemonade for a hot day.....I've tried a few of the different Pitas as well that are all Delish!  The pita bread is soft and hearty, and I really enjoy the pickled veggie bar.  The owner has a really nice attitude also, and had that "im excited about my product and want to share it" vibe when he would recommend all the different sauces (which are all great, except the cilantro...but thats just cause cilantro tastes like soap water to me)

They also had this friend cauliflower thing that was great, but got cold pretty fast so...oh no! i Had to scarf it down!!....

Bakclava is great too.  Love this place.  ALso on the same block as Bark'n Bitches...so go have a Pita and then work it off by taking a shelter puppy in need on a walk!!!

I'm a huge fan of the falafel plate here.

For $8 you get a plate with 6 delicious falafel served on top of rice with lentils and onions, the most amazing and creamy hummus, israeli salad and some pita.  Add a side of their slightly smokey baba ganouj and take a trip to the free pickle bar (almost half the reason I love this place so much), bring any or all of the 5 sauces to your table to dress things up. Put it all together and I'm in heaven.

The staff here is warm and friendly but if you're in a rush and can't eat in, take it to-go and they'll give you a container to load up those heavenly pickles and they'll even throw in a bunch of those tasty sauces so you won't have to feel like you're missing anything....what more could you ask for?

Okay, fine. They don't deliver but it's worth the trip, I promise!

I am addicted to this place.  It has the best falafel I have ever had. I dream of their falafel pita sandwich. The lentil soup is so delicious I have to get it every time.  It is great for vegetarians like me, and meat eaters like all my friends.  I love bringing people here, nobody has ever been disappointed, ever! The pickle and sauce bar is insane also. So good. Sam, the owner is super nice and generous. This is my favorite place for lunch in the area. The BEST!

A friend of mine suggested this place, and I am so glad she did! I wish I could come by here more frequently, but I usually stop by here on the way to the Silent Movie Theatre (now called Cinefamily) on Fairfax (2 blocks down). If you're in the area, you should stop by here and get your grub on.

I've tried the chicken breast pita, the chicken kebab, and the shawerma plate. Yum yum and yum! Food is fresh and tasty. They also have a little cart on the side which holds a variety of sauces, along with side garnishes including radishes, chiles, and onions.

I love going to the ma & pa places. You get more bang for the buck, and food tastes better. The people/owners here are friendly and hospitable. If you are a driver, then good luck finding street parking in LA. The residential area is usually available, but very hard to find during rush hour.

My friend and I go here all the time.  Why?

    1. Tanya (who works there) is super friendly and remembers who you are kind of like that 80's TV show Cheers.
    2. The food is tasty. We always get the Schwarma plate with extra HUMMAS. mmmm.
    3. They have a bevy of tasty drinks and soda in glass bottles.
    4. It has an interesting atmosphere where we can watch TV and overhear random conversations.
    5. They have many tasty sauces.

In summation, go here! You will like it. (=

Yo Yo Yo this place is Awesome!

I got the Schwarma wrap and it was great. The beef was delicious and perfectly cooked. They also have one of the best non-alcoholic drinks in Los Angeles - it's a mint lemonade that reminds me of a virgin mojito.

Tanya who works here is the coolest and brought an awesome vibe to the place.

It's only a couple blocks away from my new place, so I'm bound to become a regular.

I feel lucky to live a block from this place. I think they have the best falafel, hummus, and babaganoush in LA, and I consider myself an expert.

The pita is grilled warm and so soft. But try the falafel sandwich on baguette too. They get their baguettes par-baked and finish baking them right before they make the sandwich. So they come out warm and crusty and delicious. If you get a falafel plate, the falafels come on this mysterious bed of dark rice and lentils that has such great flavor it could be a meal in itself.

Another favorite of mine is their mint lemonade. Heaven on a hot day. And the sauce and pickle bar is great. Come on... free food is always nice, but this is kind of special. I love the garlic sauce, the cilantro sauce, and the harissa sauce.

But not only is the food great, everyone from the owner to the kitchen staff are generous and gregarious... and they seem to genuinely care that you have a quality experience.

It's a small place, and I guess parking might be tough (though I wouldn't know), but they do everything they can with what they've got. It's unpretentious, healthy, delicious, and fun.

Ibeen going there a lot! Their quality is always consistant and the crew is always courteous and friendly. The falafel balls are never greasy! Oh! there was 'hot' girl that was there that took my order when I was there last! The owner is really friendly and nice and asks you if everything is alright??EVERYTHING is good at this place also, try the chicken kabobs!! during lunch they have a deal where they include their fresh made fruit juices with your falafel order. Try the watermelon juice its grrrrreat!!

Overpriced. Lacking originality. lacking correct spelling in their menu.

it doesn't come as a shock that people like this because in this part of town everyone likes everything. everything is fabulous near hollywood and near beverly hills.

the food was not good. the service was atrociously slow. and the sauces at their "pickle bar" were worthless.

This place is awesome.  cozy little spot on Fairfax, which stands out in its delicious ethnicity.  My favorite is the falafel pita.  I have always liked falafel, but the way they cook it brings out so much moisture and flavor, it is the best falafel i have tried so far.  They have a wide assortment of sauces in arms reach as well as side spicy vegetables, and I always get their mint lemonade.
Aside from that, the manager or owner has wonderful customer service and wants to see that his customers are more than pleased.  Very friendly and welcoming.  I have been going here for a while now, and will continue to do so whenever I have my craving for falafel and pita.

One of the best pita places you can find in the area. There's not much places that can make pretty good pita and this spot ranks pretty up there on my list.

My all time favorite is the chicken kabob meal. It comes with hummus and salad. That hummus tastes hella good! I mean that! This is a really good spot to get some real good grub on the cheap. Everything is well under $10, unless you opt for the full plate than it'll set you back $12. If  your on a budget just the pita itself is a good snack for something quick, cheap and good.

Portion is on the smaller side. I would have expected a bit more food for the price, but what makes up for portion is the taste and healthy aspect of it.

I have been a fan of this place since the day it opened.
And I am glad to report that the quality and service has been consistently good since then.

    It's authentic food.
Authentic as in "this is the way a shoarma or falafel tastes in Jaffa, Israel"

    That's how good it is.

I cannot even tell you what my favorite is, but I tend to order the same thing all the time :-)

I love their shoarma wrap or in a pita bread.
The sauces are fresh and delicious.
Falafel is very tasty and good.
Water melon juice is my favorite juice.

If I have to add a critical note, I would say they can work on their French Fries; they are not the best I have tasted and yet, still tasty.

Like I said: if I HAVE to add a critical note :-)

Other than that: this is one of my favorite hang-outs, I am a regular.

Pita Bar & Grill has some legit chicken shawarma. Their rice is really good, and the salad that comes with it is very fresh!
The first time I ordered was for delivery. It took them about 20m to get to my office and the delivery guy was really friendly.
The shawarma was great, but they really need to get to work on their hummus, it was way to grainy for my liking.
Other than that, I'll def order from them again.

We went with the traditional shawarma plate. I liked the rice & lentils mix. Overall: tasty, and not a bad way to go if you're in a hurry, but not as cheap as I'd imagined despite the $ rating on Yelp. That's LA for you. The amount of food is probably 1/2 of what you'd get at Zankou's.

Everything this place does is awesome, from the $5 felafel sandwich to the $8 Shawarma sandwich to the more extensive plates. Eaten a lot of this stuff over the years, and this place has some of the best food of its kind anywhere. And their shawarma is amazing. To top it off, the service is very friendly. Got the Shawarma plate since this was my first visit and I wanted to try a few things. The plate was only $12 and came with an AMPLE portion of well-seasoned shawarma over a bed of what appeared to be brown rice and lentils. Whatever it was, it was delicious. The plate also came with some of the best hummus I've had in a while and an Israeli salad, which was like a middle eastern pico di gallo: diced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, parsley, olive oil and vinegar. Both served as great toppings for the chicken.

Plates also are served with a house drink. I opted for the mint lemonade, which the owner told me was the most popular. I can see why. It was delicious! Not too tart and the mint complimented the lemon well. Since this was my first time, the owner was really helpful, guiding me through the menu, making recommendations. He even let me sample a few things that I didn't order, but showed interest in. I could tell he really cared about his restaurant and food. Good food made with love? SOLD!

Can't wait to return and explore some more.

In case you're still on the fence. They have a pickle bar. Need I say more?

For a middle eastern restaurant this place was really pricey.usually when you go to a small hole in the wall the prices are reasonable. Everything ranged from $12-25 per platter. We tried to order the shwarma and the cashier said "we're out of shwarma" . Omgggg seriously what middle eastern restaurant runs out of shwarma loll omg that's horrible( i was thinking this in my head lol). The cashier had a tear tattoo coming down his eye. He was super short and had awful customer service. His bad energy makes the environment uncomfortable.he just creapingly stared at me during the entire time my boyfriend and I ate our dinner....Hella creepy. My boyfriend I were looking at the menu and I said " hmm what should I get honey." I said this to my bf and the cashier jumped in and said " you can get what you want." my bf and I just kinda looked at eachother like hmm okay. The cashier was pushy and had no patience. He was tapping his nails on the table the entire time we were trying to order. Because of such bad customer service we will never go back. To make matters worse, parking is horrible for this hole in the wall, it's st parking and the lighting on this part of fairfax is bad, makes you feel like your in the hood.  If you do go here make sure you go with your boy friend,bc there were def lots of skethy guys hanging around this restaurant. Our meal in total was $35 in all. We got falafal and chicken cabobs,The taste was average. I think trader joes humus taste better. But the falafel tasted really yummy.
