I'm not too much of a camper, but when I do, I like the clean, quiet, peaceful lake type. I came here to camp for a friend's bachelor party weekend. Good times!! We can't here, I guess it's one of the few places where you can camp literally on the beach (right next to the ocean) on sand. Personally, I hate the beach because it is dirty and sand gets all over the place!! Anyways, it's pretty cheap, about $40 to camp and 2 vehicles. You pretty much drive on the beach and find a spot and camp. No rules!!! It's totally chaos! Bring your own firepit or you can just dig a hole in the sand. It's fun, but since there are no rules, it gets loud at night. We went to bed around 12, and I didn't have restful sleep throughout the night, I even woke up at 4 in the morning to twitter my complaints!! During the night, I heard a couple having an argument, and some people next to us playing loud reggaeton (which I can't stand) all night long!! No one stopping them! No rules = bad! But also good, because you can drink and smoke all you want and no one bothers you!! Although, you can hear the calming ocean all night, which is the nice part. It's right next to the sand dunes, so if you have your off-road vehicles or ATV, it's perfect!! Beach camping just isn't for me!

I REALLY HATE THE BEACH, AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHY!!!

This is a campground by the beach, that also has a lake.  So bring those bug repellents, because with lakes comes mosquitoes.  We usually camp here when we come to Pismo beach.  I'd rather camp on the beach myself, but we're always fearful of it getting too windy to camp so we usually end up staying here because all the trees and stuff provides protection from the wind.

It's close to the Dunes, but quite a bit away from the main part of town.  So if you plan on going into town for some grub, make sure to drive, or ride a bike or something, because the walk is about 2 miles or so I believe.
