My husband and I recently stayed here on our way to Hearst Castle. We were pleasantly surprised and impressed. The suites are in 3 buildings. One building is ocean front but ours was not. One of the bedrooms in our suite faced the courtyard although we could see a glimpse of the ocean in the distance. The other bedroom in our suite faced in the direction of the highway which is nearby. We didn't notice any traffic noise but we didn't use the bedroom facing the highway. The rooms are clean and are decorated with a nautical theme. The only thing I found less than ideal about the layout is that the first room (closest to the entry door) has a curtain rather than a door to close it off from the hallway. However, there is a door on the bedroom facing the ocean so it is possible to close that if you are sharing the suites for privacy.

We did not stay at a peak time and felt the hotel was quite reasonably priced. It cost just as much to stay near Hearst Castle in a hotel that was not half as nice. Although I realize many people considering staying in Pismo plan to spend their time at the beach if you felt like visiting Hearst Castle it's about an hour away so you could drive to San Simeon, take a tour and eat lunch, and drive back as a day trip.

When we stayed at the Pismo Lighthouse Suites we didn't realize until the end of our stay that it is possible to get to the beach on foot rather than by driving closer. To do so walk in front of the building with units facing the ocean (if you are not staying in that building you may need to walk past the pool  - which is nicely located overlooking the ocean - to get there) and keep walking in front of a neighboring hotel until you find the stairs that will take you to the beach.

This is a hotel we would definitely visit again.

This place was super mellow.

Best continental breakfast i've ever been to, including a make your own waffle set-up, 4 varieties of cereal from a huge dispenser, Seattle's Best coffee, lots of bagels & pastries, juices. I was impressed if you couldn't tell. ha.

My boyfriend and I shared a suite with his brother & sister in law. It had a great view of the ocean and was pretty spacious.  The lawn games were cool: the huge chess/checkers board & ping pong were fun. And mini golf!

The pool/spa was another plus.  It was surrounded by large glass walls which you could see the entire ocean from. Great to go in for a nice sunset view :)

The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the beach, down lots of stairs.

Lots of parking and close to the downtown area.

Overall, I would say that coming to the Lighthouse suites is a good place to stay !

Here are the big pluses about the hotel:
+Very clean and well-maintained
+Wonderfully large suite for travelling with family and having privacy for both parents and children with 2 king beds and 2 separate bathrooms
+Social deck with mini-golf, ping-pong and life-size chess is a wonderful diversion for kids in the afternoon
+So near the ocean where you can easily spot dolphins jumping at Pismo Beach and brown pelicans taking nose-dives for fish

Here are the drawbacks:
-You could end up staying near really noisy families or being in a unit near Highway 101
-The beach access does snake through other properties and does involve navigation of some precarious steps
-Your partial ocean view could end up being a full neighboring hotel view
-Healthy and or nicer dining nearby does not exist (but hey its near a pier)

The choice was a toss-up between Embassy Suites or Pismo Lighthouse Suites.  I'm glad we chose Pismo Lighthouse Suites, but if I had to do it again I might choose Avila Lighthouse Suites by the same management company.

If you are looking for a fantastic place to stay while in Pismo Beach, this is it.  This is a great place for families.  During our stay there were quite a few families here.  But it was still very pleasant and quiet.  The rooms are all suites with separate bedrooms.  If you are lucky, you can get the rooms that face the beach.  Terrific views of the ocean from your back door!  Continental breakfast and newspapers are included in the price of your stay.  The hotel is a short distance from downtown Pismo.

Very good.  Clean rooms, well-maintained pool and spa, glassed in on the cliffs.  We enjoyed standing on our balcony, watching dolphins jumping in the ocean.

It's quite a hike to the beach though - along the cliffs and down the long stairs.  If your party is all young folks, it's not an issue.  If you're traveling with small kids or your parents, that's a long walk back to the bathroom!

We had five adults and two kids in our two-room suite with room to spare.  Great place for a large family, or family-plus-grandparents.  I heard our neighbors discussing who was sleeping on the floor that night, so it seems this is a well-known amenity.

Service was English-fluent and friendly.  Slight downside: they don't know local restaurants.  Their desk guy recommended Old Juan's, which is only two stars on Yelp.

Very nice hotel. We had a first floor oceanfront king suite. Best thing ever. I loved that we could just put our kid to bed in the next room and hang out in the living room or outside in our patio and listen to the waves all night. Also there were two bathrooms which was pretty cool. I could totally see two couples or large families staying here comfortably. There was plenty of room for just the 3 of us. The room was clean and well-stocked with Bath & Body Works items (bonus for my husband because he loves BBW shampoo). Also the kitchenette was really useful -- a nice small fridge, wet bar and cabinets if you need them.

I've read some complaints on the complimentary continental breakfast which I thought were unfounded. Continental breakfasts aren't meant to be any more than danishes and coffee and I thought the breakfast they offered went way beyond that. There was a large variety of cold cereals and hot (oatmeal in packets with hot water available), bagels & cream cheese, a bunch of different danishes, fruit cocktail, mini Yoplait yogurts, oranges, apples, and of course coffee, tea, milk and 4 different fruit juices. The best thing was the waffle maker. It's DIY but there are instructions and staff on hand to help if you need it. I looked forward to making my waffles every morning! Mmm...hot waffles with butter & syrup...

I did agree somewhat with the complaints on the noise level. The first couple of days weren't so bad because we didn't have neighbors above us but once the room was occupied we could hear every foot step and door closing they did. I admit I was a bit annoyed by that. Also in the morning the housecleaning staff is pretty loud as they go from floor to floor with their carts and I could always hear their walkie-talkies going off. And by morning I mean before 8am which I think is still early for so much noise.

I agree w/everyone about the hike to the beach. The walk over isn't bad but the steps leading down to the beach are really steep and uneven. We took our 3 year old son down there a total of 1 time during our stay and i was sooooo exhausted when we got back. LOL.

All in all it was a very relaxing few days and I would definitely stay there again. Also note that mid-week rates are a LOT better than weekends. A LOT.

On first blush, this place looks great and actually it's not bad. However, if you're looking for a place for a romantic getaway, this would not be the spot. As Ericka A stated perfectly, this is the perfect place to bring the whole family. During my stay here, there were kids everywhere! - in the game facilities, in the pool, in the hot tub, outside my window yelling, in the suite above me jumping on my head! Ugh.

Another thing that drove me nuts was the fact that I could literally hear the folks above me, and everything the were doing, be it walking around, watching TV, talking or flushing the toilet. The walls appeared to be pretty thin, so at 3am I could hear the fan in their bathroom, and each toilet flush. This place could definitely benefit from some good double pained windows. This became very apparent when the staff was outside my window at 7am having a conversation, and I was able to hear every word, despite the windows being closed.

They also advertise the fact that they have free internet, which is a huge selling point for some. I was one of those that was sucked in by this, and it was one of the primary reasons that we stayed here. I had some work to do, and thought it would be great to sit on the patio overlooking the ocean while doing some business emails. They failed to mention that they have one router, and that if you close the front door, you get no reception. I called the front desk and they said that they had a few access points to loan, but they were all out. The guy suggested that I sit in a chair in the bedroom, and work there, as there should be some reception there. Ugh!

The views from the location are pretty spectacular and the rooms are pretty plush, but it is definitely a family environment.

This is the perfect spot to bring the whole family for a vacation by the sea. My family and I have been coming here for a few years now and we love staying here.

The beds are super comfy and the rooms are immaculate! The bathrooms are spotless as well. The nautical decor is fabulous and there is a nice fridge and microwave in the suites as well. The balcony is great for sipping wine while watching the waves.

There are plenty of great fun things to occupy your time nearby too like wine tasting, atv'ing, hiking, boogie boarding, and lots of different farmers markets as well. The staff at this place is awesome and very accommodating.

There is also a life size chess set outside which is a lot of fun, a badminton court, and even a putting green. They have a huge breakfast room with tons of offerings and even a waffle maker. So much fun!!

I just happened upon this place while making plans for a getaway to San Francisco. We like to stop in Pismo to break up the driving and give the kids a break. But we have 3 teenagers, and it gets expensive. Pismo Lighthouse was perfect for us - large accomodations, clean, friendly, helpful (I had to do a load of laundry after an afternoon of ATV-ing) and very comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised that our rate dropped even more when I inquired about the AAA discount. Love this place - we'll be back!

Great for families!  I went on a roadtrip to the central coast w/my husband and his parents.  This place had the perfect solution - suites that have their own bedrooms and bathrooms at a very reasonable price.  For a Thurs and Fri night stay, the average per night cost was about $170.  (Fri. night was more expensive.)  This place is right off the Price Street exit on 101 and it's right next to the ocean where you can go for a walk or watch the sunset.  They have outdoor badminton court, 3 ping pong tables, a human size chess set, a mini putting area, and a decent size swimming pool.  The rooms are pretty clean and decent size.  The suite has a microwave and mini frig.  We went to the SLO farmer's market and bought fruits which we kept in the frig.   (SLO is just 11 miles north of here.)  The stay comes w/continental breakfast and the check in office has Seattle's best coffee at all times.  They have bath and body works' shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, soap.  (I hate hotels with cheap ass products and usually you'd have to stay at expensive hotels to get decent amenities.)  It's also conveniently located about 1/2 mile from a great restaurant for crabs called Cracked Crabs.  It also includes continental breakfast and free wireless.  I'd recommend this place for sure - it's nice and affordable stay.  (My husband is really picky about hotels and he liked it too, so that says alot.  Trust Me!)  One complaint is that there's no AC so it was a bit hot at night and we had to turn on the fan and open the window, which then was fine.  When we asked the front desk about AC, she said that all the hotels around that area doesn't have AC so I guess we couldn't have done any better at another hotel.
