6 reviews for Pismo Beach Pier
I love the Pismo Beach Pier. It's pretty far from me (a good four hour drive), but when I'm in town, it's a must-see for me. The shops are all really cute, and the pier itself is a nice stop off to get your dose of ocean oxygen. (Plus it's a great stop off from San Francisco if you're taking the 101).
It's a bit colder than the Piers we have here in Southern California, as the weather and ocean current patterns change drastically north of Point Conception.
I recommend it as a nice day to walk around and relax. Buy some gorpy souvenirs, and possibly finish your day off by stopping at Perko's Cafe up the road. *Sigh* I sure miss Pismo Beach....
It's pretty crowded in the surrounding area of the pier, but the pier itself looked pretty deserted and peaceful.
I probably only spent a total of 5 minutes here, but I saw the pier from the freeway, and I wanted to take some pictures, so we exited and I got my way.
It's definitely picture worthy. Excellent view from all angles, and if the sun hits it just right....beautiful.

The last time I was there, I went fishing for almost three hours, listening to the Dresden Dolls on my MP3 player and catchign a grand total of 0 fish.
It was a quiet and relaxing day out on the pier and I just enjoyed the weather, talked with a few folks who walked by and was glad to have taken the day out.
A very nice pier, as far as piers go. It is 1300 feet long (apparently), in the middle of beautiful Pismo Beach. There are no restaurants or attractions or tacky-tourist kiosks on the pier. It's all about fishing, surfer-watching, and the view. There are several benches throughout the pier, and always a lot of pigeons and sea-gulls around. There is also a "town square" type area at the base of the pier that had a number of kids hanging out - gave the area a nice feeling (they didn't seem like angst-ridden kids, just bored ones with skateboards).
Restrooms and parking are available at the pier. Fishing supplies are available too (but it was closed when we were there, and I don't fish anyway, so I can't say much about that...)

The pier wasn't to terribly crowded so we grabbed a bench overlooking the surf and watched the waves and the surfers for a while. There were LOTS of seagulls and pigeons, but they left us alone. The sound of the waves was relaxing, and quite enjoyable. We also enjoyed watching the surfers.

The pier itself isn't too bad. There are pigeons, but it is definitely cleaner than in the last few years. You can fish off the pier (no license required!) and there is just one kiosk. Surrounding the pier is a wide beach, restrooms, and a few touristy businesses. The parking is free for now, but it could disappear if the city gets its way.
