Don't ask questions. Just go.
They will have something that appeals to you. Get something you're not sure of as well. Everything I've ever purchased here was primo...
Best cheap eats, and "comfort" food you'll ever get away from home.
It was my first time eating Russian and 'Oh.My.Gosh' was it great. I did not want that Onion, Mushroom, and Potato Pironshky to ever end.
This tiny place is worth the wait- it is cheap and delicious.
This was the first time I've ever had Russian food. We decided to check it out since we were doing the tourist thing, and visiting the first Starbucks!
We ordered 1 Salmon Pate, and 1 Blueberry Cream Cheese Piroshky. Both were kick ass!! Definitely satisfied with these choices. It was a pleasant experience for my "first" Russian experience. It's a good place to stop to get a snack, or food on the go. It's filling, affordable, and tasty. I should have ordered more! I'd definitely come back here if I were in Seattle....
Great bakery! I had the cheese onion roll and the chocolate cream hazelnut. It stuffed me silly. I wish we have them in LA. But I'll be happy with Portos... =D
The first time I experienced the whole salmon throwing thing at the Pike Market was in 1994...Wow..that was 15 years ago to be exact.. Went back to Seattle a few times later but never to Pike market ...
Visited the place again last week and was mesmerized at the whole segment again...A lot more tourist this time taking videos of the salmon throwing act. It was quite an experience..they had a GIANT Monk Fish display in tne middle of the stall with a made up cord place in the mouth so when they pull the cord it looks like it was ready to bite... just an added attraction.
Love the marketplace in general....It's the first thing I go to whenver I travel.....go to their markets...it's always a great experience and fun for me and I really delight going around and checking out everything.. being a gourmet cook I hunt for exotic spices...
After doing the tourist thing...we got hungry and looked for something to snack on..it was almost 2:00 pm .and we were suppose to pick up another friend and have Pho at this Vietnamese place at the Great Wall Mall...so after we did the rounds... nothing really caught my fancy until we passed by this long que and wondered what they are in this for....looked up and there...advetised in big letters...Authentic Russian Cuisine...A bowl of Hot Borst Soup with Piroshky for $5.95...I always have a penchant for hot breads....so I went on line....and ordered their specials and more...they have a whole array of Piroshky......Meat, Vegetarian and Sweet.I had the Beef & Cheese Piroshky, just out of the oven with Borst Steaming soup...Very filling and really satisfying duo..REALLYgood....ordered Mushroom,Onion and Celery and the Cinnamon, CardomonBread and Sweet CreamCheese Blueberry Vetrushka togo. I am so glad I am only in Seattle fora few days...with all these delicious Piroshky I can't resist..I would have gone home100 lbs heavier.....HO...HO...HO...
2 Piroshky's + 1 soup for about $12.
Came here because our friend raved about the Salmon Piroshky.
Flavor-wise, the piroshky's are alright -- but, not as authentic as those made in the Richmond District/Russian area of San Francisco. The bread part of the piroshky's are pretty dense, and doughy - kinda reminds me of a bagel dog almost.
1) Salmon Piroshky: bursting with filling. They really don't skimp here! Flavor is very savory (like salmon lox).
2) Beef + Cheddar Piroshky: it's oozing with cheese, but is a lil skimpy on the grounded beef. The flavor was alright -- kinda reminds me of those chinese BBQ baked buns, so it didn't scream excitement to me.
3) Beet/Veggie Soup: consisted of a very thin watery broth and was vibrant fuscia. The beet taste was very pronounced, but aside from the beet juice...there was barely any thing else exciting in there (except for a few meager strands of onions). Definitely NOT worth your money...
In conclusion, I'd save my money for more crumpets from The Crumpet Shop.
I just stumbled across this place without hearing it about it beforehand. And am I glad I did, b/c this place is delicious! I had the Potato and Cheese Pirosky, which was delicious. Like a sweet, soft bread stuffed with grated potatoes and melted cheese. All in the shape of a handy donut-like ring. Love portable meals. Also had the Cinnamon Cardamon Braid, which again, I loved. Kinda like a sticky bun/cinamon roll, but without the frosting. Still super delicious. I wish they had this in SF!! Must try if you visit Pikes Market.
Evil place.....soo yummy and soo bad for my diet!!! But who cares. I live to eat, not eat to survive.
So far I've had the Apple Cinnamon Roll, Coffee Cinnamon Roll, and the sinfully delicious White Chocolate Piroshky.
I think cheating twice a month is Okay??? All right....maybe one a week. Thank god I don't live in Seattle. YET!
My wife loves this place. I think it's pretty good, maybe a little overrated, jus a lil bit. I like the savory ones better.
I've never had a bad one. I like the ham cheese and spinach. Also smoked salmon is on point. We hit that place up during any pikes place visit.
Wouldve given it 4 stars but not my favorite type of food, not bad just not my cup of tea.
Great food, and ver filling! My only regret is that I couldn't try one of everything.
The last stop on our mid-afternoon snacking escapade (see the Le Panier review) was Piroshky Piroshky. Not having ventured outside of Asian, American, and French bakeries before, I was guided here by one of my coworkers. As a result of some misunderstandings though, I thought we were coming for dumplings (pierogis, which I also have never tried), so imagine my surprise when we arrived, staring into a glass display full of baked goods that were reminiscent of the buns I see at Chinese bakeries.
Coming in expecting pierogies, I decided to stick with the savory route, opting for the beef and cheese the gal working the register suggested. Like others have mentioned, the prices range from roughly $3-5 here, which initially came as a bit of a sticker shock, with my mind having already been tricked into a comparison with Chinese bakeries. But after getting quite full finishing my piroshky, I realized it was somewhat akin to eating a sandwich for lunch, making the pricing a tad more reasonable.
The piroshky itself was pretty tasty, though the beef and cheese flavor imprinted the comparison to Chinese baked goods even more, reminding me of the ham and cheddar buns that I used to eat as a child. That said, the flavors of the piroshky were much stronger (a pretty sharp cheddar), tastier, and much more filling. Giving these folks a solid 3.5 stars.
Dear Piroshky Piroshky,
Thank you for filling my belly with goodness beyond what i ever expected. Although i should have known from the beginning when i was standing in line outside that I was in store for quite the treat!
Your Cheese Roll with Onion and garlic made me want to jump over the counter and hug all the staff, and possibly eat more cheese rolls. It was too good for words. I love you
Love,
Andy.
Pastry dough is like 50% butter and 50% flour. Don't mind the butter. Love butter. Gotta watch the butter intake. But still I eat butter. Butter is protein. Protein makes muscles. Luv da protein baby. But why do so many of Piroshky Piroshky pastries have to have egg wash?
My apologies for making the line go slow. I just had to know which breakfast pastries were not egg washed. And I appreciate your patience. Glad the pastry without the egg wash contained fruit. Fresh fruit. Washington State Green Apples. They fit a lot of sliced in the Apple Roll. That's a pretty impressive apple pastry.
And here's the morale of the story, the next time I go to Piroshky Piroshky.... it won't be me holding the line up.

Ok Yelpers looking for great and affordable Piroshkys. Look no further because this is it.
Having been at the Pike Place Market for years, it's acquired quite the reputation. Being right next door to the Original Starbucks, this tiny (and I mean tiiiiiiiny) piroshky bakery is amazing.
I've practically tried everything this bakery has to offer. My favorite is the Cheddar Cheese w/ onion or the ... damn. I've had so many I don't remember what I had. Doesn't matter, pick up what sounds good to you and trust me... you won't regret it. I had never regretted anything I've bought here. Well, except for the Oscar's Star... the chocolate pudding thing didn't roll well with my taste buds.
I know people tell you to try the sweet piroshkies, but I'm telling you-- nothing beats that fresh salmon pate piroshky!
The line wasn't too bad either considering it's a popular spot in a touristy destination-- and I was there on a weekend just this summer! It's mostly the inside of the market that gets super clogged up.
I had never tried a piroshky ever in my life, and it turned out to be a great breakfast pastry/treat with some coffee to wash it down. The salmon pate one is even shaped like a little fish. Steaming, fresh soft dough and an amazing filling.
My friend and I took our piroshky baggies to that little park area near the market... such a pleasant meal to start off the day. Plus, the word is fun to say. :]
In the piroshky department and open food market department-- Seattle, this LA kid bows down to you.
The bf and I were walking around Pike Place just checking things out when we spotted this little bakery and the long line out the door. You can even watch as they make everything by hand! They had an article taped on the door showing how Anthony Bourdain had been there when he was in Seattle. Everything in the case looked and smelled so buttery and delicious that we had no choice but to try it! I didn't even know what a piroshky was!
We tried a Bavarian Sausage piroshky and a cinnamon cardamom braid. The pastry on the sausage piroshky was so flaky and delicious! I didn't actually really care for the sausage - it just tasted like any old polish sausage. The cinnamon cardamom braid had really good flavor - not too sweet - I just wish that it had been softer and not as dry.
Not itchin' to come back to this place...
I waited 8 days to come here and eat my fat filled, calorie intensive desert for the week.
I could of eaten donuts, cookies, cakes or pies.......but no.
I came here and ate my beloved poppy seed raisen roll with a cup of Starbucks coffee from the original first store.
I was in heaven.....pure pleasure.

Its now October. Don't let the short daylight and constant rain showers get you down. Because the rain and darkness means that the Pike Place Market has been returned to Seattlites! You can get fresh meats and cheeses, honey and apples, without feeling claustrophobic or battling long waits.
The best way possible to beat the winter blues is to sink your teeth into a piping hot, buttery, piroshky. After eating a piroshky filled with cheese, potatoes and onions, ($3.40) you will be warmed to the core and full of good food. It makes me love the darkness and rain all the more.....
Those Russians know how to survive the winter.
My co-worker recommended Piroshky Piroshky to me after I told him I had moved downtown. This weekend, The Boy and I made the trek to Pike's Place accordingly, and bought some piroshkis to take home. I got a delicious beef-and-onion, a tasty hazelnut, and a potato-cheese-garlic one to snack on later.
These piroshkis are a good size, and they don't skimp on the filling, so expect to feel full after just one. I ended up cutting my sweet piroshki in half and basically got two filling meals out of my three piroshkis.
I think I'll be bringing my out-of-town guests by here when we show them the Market. Inexpensive, delicious, memorable.
I had a piroshky and it was GOOD. I even walked around the marketplace with it.
Ok... it took me 4 days to try this place....
Day 1: Labor day.... lines down the block.... and frankly, there were just too many other places to try without having to wait in line for this place
Day 2: we weren't in the area...
Day 3: We were in the area late, I think they were closed already
Day 4: we already had breakfast, but were moseying the area ... and we were looking for something for a to-go lunch.... bingo... no line!
Yes... they are pretty good.. maybe not all the flavors that I like in the 3 we tried.. .but they were all tasty... flaky... yummy.
This place is equivalent to getting pasties in Covent Gardens in London.
greasy, meaty, bland pastry.
Not sure what all the hype is about. Once a place gets on TV- people seem to flock. Piroshky Piroshky is clearly a tourist trap. I should've known.
I had the beef and onion Piroshky and it was really boring and not worth the wait. Cost was fair.
So many other excellent food options around Pike Place
The line is always at least 1 store down, no matter what time you're there, but it moves pretty quickly.
There's a huge variety of savory and sweet piroshkys. What I didn't really get was why some are in a dough and some are in puff pastry. I thought puff pastry would be too buttery, so we went with the dough ones. They're brushed with butter and egg to be shiny and golden. Slightly warm, the dough is nice and chewy.
Their most famous and most ordered selections are posted on the wall, so we went with the smoked salmon. It comes in an elongated shape, and it's generously stuffed with smoked salmon spread, which is kind of like a lox. It's reminds me of a rolled bagel with lox shmear inside. The flavor was smoky, but it was a bit too creamy for me. The dough was redeeming, though.
My friend swears by the beef and onion, so maybe we'll try that next time. There are also some interesting vegetarian combos (like sauerkraut and carrots with cabbage, various potato combos). They range from $3-5 each, and they're pretty filling.
With only about 4 bar stools and barely enough standing room to view the baked goods before ordering, the place is tiny. When my bf and I decided to visit to Seattle, this was one of the food places that I put on my Absolutely Must Try list, and I'm so happy it was.
We got the salmon pate piroshky, which is shaped like a fish, as someone before me said (so cute!). The bready part is soft and warm, not too doughy, not too salty, just right. And while I was afraid the salmon pate was going to be a pulverized blob that looked like catfood, it was actually just broken up pieces of salmon. It looked really simply made, with just a few ingredients and herbs, but it was so tasty. I can't wait to go back and try their other piroshkys.
we had the egg, cheese and spinach ($4.40) and potato and mushroom ($3.45). They were hot and ready to eat. Pretty good. maybe should have had one with meat so that we got some more saltiness.
Just went back recently and sampled quite a few of the other offerings. Definitely not as good as the salmon one so I dropped it down a star.

Autumn sunshine, blue sky, fresh salmon piroshky and a strong cup of coffee.... mmmm. The salmon piroshkys even have the cutest little pastry tails. Super flaky yummy pastry and nice tasty salmon filling.
Am having piroshky regret -- wish I'd tried the mushroom version too. Will definitely be a repeat customer next time I'm in Seattle.
SWEET CHRIST.
Rosemary chicken piroshky split between 3 fatasses. It was gone in the blink of 6 eyes. Now that I think about it I should've knocked the other two bitches out so I could've had that shit all to myself.
I'll be back to try everything. And don't even think about asking me to share unless you want to be stabbed in the face with my pointy high heeled shoes.
I can never decide whether to get savory or sweet when I'm here...as they're both good. Usually I can convince the boyfriend to get a savory piroshky and I can get a sweet one...but alas, yesterday he refused to share. He got the potato/onion/mushroom (yummy) and I got the potato/cheese/onion (even yummier) and we decided to share an apple cinnamon.
I love having guests visiting because we always make a Pike Market visit and I can always swing by here for some goodies.
God almighty these are delicious. A few friends and I ordered a bunch and split them. *wipes drool off chin*
Please adopt me and feed me these on a daily basis. Once I have reached 2 tons release me into the ocean where I can rejoin the rest of the Killer Whales. You know they were once humans who gorged themselves on these flaky, nuggets of fat, right? It's true! Jesus told me.
Jesus knows everything.
Holy crap! I figured this place would be good but when I took a bite into the Smoked Salmon & Pate Piroshky, it was more than good........it was, ummmmm, so good that it left me speechless for a while.
Tried couple other things but the salmon was just amazing.
The staff are super friendly. The only drawback is that there can be a long line but that's what you get when you serve up amazing food.
So, I didn't get a piroshky when we're here. I was for sure that I want a piroshky until I saw the unbaked cheddar rolls in the window. And as we approached to order, the fresh baked cheddar rolls arrived. I just had to get that instead. Well, I'm proud to say that I picked a winner! Bits of crispy cheese on the outside. Tender roll and gooey cheese inside. It's just as good as it gets.
If we do make it to Seattle again, I will do my best to try a piroshky.
Def worth the wait (even in the rain).
For all your cheese lovers and semi-cheese lovers, try the Cheddar Piroshky.
The Ham, Spinach and Cheese Piroshky was just okay. I personally would not try it again given their large selection.
The Bavarian Cream (?) dessert Piroshky I tried was yummy! Not so sweet, but still satisfying.
Thank you Piroshky Piroshky for introducing me to your deliciousness! I'm dreaming of the day I can come back and try all the other types. Too bad Seattle is sooo far from me...
This place seems to always have a line out the door. And the fact that is has over 300 reviews shows how fanatical people are about Piroshky Piroshky. My favorites: Potato Onion Cheese, Oscar's Star, Marzipan Roll, and the Whole Baked Apple. I am partial to the sweets.. It is worth the wait in line, which usually goes pretty fast. Go figure out your own favorites!
Russia, home of Zangief, Yakov Smirnov, lines for toilet paper, and piroshky. What's a piroshky you ask? Think Russian Hot Pocket.
The piroshkies at Piroshky Piroshky are so good that they named the place twice. I've never seen a line for piroshkies before but I know now why it exists. The piroshkies were the bomb yo. I had the potato and onion piroshky and it was delish. They have plenty of different varieties, meats, veggies, and sweet ones for any occasion.
A definite gotta try in Pikes Place.
Yum yum yum, cheese, onion and garlic roll!
I would almost make the trip from Everett to Seattle JUST for that, sweet essence of life!
I've tried a few other ones, but the cheese onion and garlic one still knocks my socks off the hardest.
I even buy an extra one to bring home and munch on once I digest my first Piroshky.
I wish they had Piroshky punch cards, though. Like, buy ten get one free? I would have earned many free Piroshkys by now if that was the case. Too bad, maybe I'll email them.
Light, Fluffy, Crispy, Fresh... DELICIOUS!!!
Wow! Really, really bad for you, but, WOW! Really delicious!! These warm little pockets of deliciousness are the perfect cure for an awful day. If you are feeling a little malnourished, have a fatty piroshky (remember though, you can only suck on ice cubes for the rest of the week).
I had the salmon piroshky, which was the all around favorite in our group. It was warm and very filling. I didn't need anything else for a loooong time. In fact, what I really wanted to do was take a nap at my desk after consuming the little devil of a russian hotpocket.
Not going to be doing this often, but if I'm feeling the need for some fat-I'll be heading here, fa sho!
The beef and cheese one was great, however the mushroom spinach and cheese was only ok.
One thing, and one thing alone, makes this our first stop whenever we visit Seattle. It's called the beef and onion piroshky. Don't waste your stomach on anything else!
