Well, I am a day toward ending my trip in Hampton Roads. I had a beautiful reunion with two of my best fds from college. My fd suggested this restaurant. Its located in a plaza. Initially, I was a bit disappointed because I thought we were going to eat overlooking the water. However, the great food makes up for the location.
Well, my fds had salmon and a lump of crab. Im allergic to crab so I can only give a review of the crab based on their description, "OMG! this is soooo good. ITs real crab. Its fresh....no bread crumbs. REAL crab meat..." I ordered blackened salmon, broiled scallops, and fried clams. Our side dishes consisted of spinach casserole, baked potatoes, fresh garden salads....Everything was well seasoned. I typically dont like hush puppies. However, they were so delicious I over ate. They had a sweet taste to me. PERFECT!...
I wish I had gotten our waitress name. Anyway, she was great. She also was knowledgeable of the vast wie collection. I had three glasses of reselig-good!. Dont recall what brand-maybe cause i did have 3. :)....Well, the food was so good that I felt guilty that I didnt bring my mother. So, I ordered my mother the salmon and crab meat. She commented that everything was seasoned perfectly. She also stated that the crab meat was REAL crab meat...
Well, my fds stated that this is one of the best seafood restaurants in Hampton Roads. This is now one of my favorite FInds.....Cant wait to rtn in the spring. -

This is another place my husband and I decided to try on a whim while our daughter was away.
It's a great hole in the wall restaurant. The hush puppies? TO DIE FOR! We were fighting over the last one on the table. We were there on a Thursday so I had the 1lb Crab leg special. PERFECT! The potatoes? No so good. They are mashed then fried so they are extremely greasy. My husband had the fried oyster sandwich and really enjoyed it.
The service was perfect and even though we were there close to closing time, the staff was friendly and very accommodating. We will definitely be back but I will steer clear of the potatoes and maybe get a double side of Hush Puppies!
I was back and forth with a 3 star or 4 star review. The potatoes and veggie was pretty bad BUT my husband's meal, my crab, the hush puppies and the services more than made up for it. Next time I will just order a different side. -

Tried the Pirate's Cove for the first time today. I had the Griddled Reuben sandwich (w/o pickle, as I'm allergic) and my companion had a Prime Rib French Dip sandwich. She also got no pickle with her sandwich upon request. That may sound like something small, but the waitress remembered it easily - and then came back out to let me know that the optional dressing for my sandwich also had pickles in it and offered me something different. That right there is good service.
The Reuben was good. It had just the right proportion of meat to kraut to bread, and each of the three was of good quality. When my companion could not finish her PRFD, I ate half. It was amazing. I can not see going there and not getting the PRFD. It was the best French Dip I've ever had in my life. The fries were average. Not all had the same texture, so some were soft, others were crisp, and so on. They were not bad, but they weren't particularly good. This could be because I'd already had a bite of a good Reuben when I started on my fries... so my expectations might have been a little high.
The service was impeccable. The restaurant was not loud despite a healthy crowd. The atmosphere was pleasingly bright, but cozy and comfortable.
I will definitely return, and soon! -

This place is tucked away in the corner. We really like the food:
- Buffalo chicken salad (this gorgonzola is tastey)
- Pollock fried fish (light and appetizing...not greasy at all)
The hushpuppies were yummy as well. Definitely get your money's worth! We will be back for more. -

Best seafood in the Tidewater area. Although the prices have recently risen and the portions have somewhat gotten smaller, the quality remains the same. Just can't go there quite as often.

I'm not a big seafood fan, nor am I one to order fried food, so I was a little precarious when I saw the other reviews on here... Alas, my aunt and uncle wanted to go, and so we went. The prices are a little high (maybe I'm just not catching up with inflation in my mind yet) in the upper teens for most dishes, but they do serve up a good portion size. I got the lemon dill version of a fish, and trusted the server when she said that I should get it with the salmon lightly Cajun fried. It was not overly greasy and was nice both in its size (about 6-8 oz) and its contrast of tender salmon goodness with a little lemon dill sauce on a bed of fresh cooked baby spinach (not greasy) with a little bit of a crunch outside. (Check out photos on their website to get an idea of what you're in for, as they are accurate.) It was exactly as she had described. For my sides, I got the spinach casserole, which was more like canned spinach mixed with hidden-calorie yum of parmesan and butter. I also got the baked apples side, but was not a fan--it had some kind of overly nutmeggy spice I didn't like and struggled with having some hard parts (like the parts near the core of the apple that are too hard). I'd give my dish nearly 4-stars for the fish and spinach casserole.
I tried a bit of a Napoli version of flounder, and that was good. It was like a creamy alfredo sauce with an aftertaste of basil... I am always a fan when somehow chefs are able to separate out flavors like that so that you can experience of little of both separately! This dish gets a solid 3-3.5.
Much like my great experiences so far in Chesapeake, this place was excellent in ensuring my water never went empty and boasted great, professional service from people other than TGIF-type teenage servers, although you might predict otherwise from the slightly cheesy ambiance. -

Fish was nice done with a thin batter and very tasty. The green beans were awesome. The server was pleasant.

If you like a menu that has everything fried; this is the place for you. Pirate's Cove serves fried fish, fast food style in a sit down restaurant. The food selection was poor, the food itself was nasty, the atmosphere was cheap and dirty, the service was fine.

This is a little gem tucked away in a strip mall off of Battlefield Blvd. My mother in law loves this place, and it's not because she is "crabby". The food is great and the hush puppies are superb. Fresh local fish is prepared daily blackened, steamed or fried. If you are in the market for a double bypass the fried shrimp and clams will do the trick, but worth every bite. Cheap satisfying seafood worth the trip to Chesapeake.

This place is a gem hidden in a strip mall next to a Food Lion. We were in a group of 8. Restaurant was well lit. Music is calm. Service was very good. Very big portions for the price. Suggestions. Broiled or Fried Crab Cakes. Broiled Flounder. Blackened Salmon. and Ofcourse, their well known hush puppies.
