I remember this place as ShirtTail Charley's back in the day. We would grab burgers on our boat.

I have been three times this month. Once for lunch and twice for dinner.
I think the place is great. Probably the best view of downtown from on New River. You can sit down at great tables on the water. It's very chill! Wish they played music or had a band. Bet a good live band would make this place go off.

I had one of the greatest burgers ever. Did not need to put anything on it. I am in love with the sweet and tangy wings. The sauce is a game changer. Friends had the pirate bowl. Different mixed seafood. They both enjoyed it. Great mixed drinks. Muddled fruit with rum, vodka or a Brazilian liquor. I forgot the proper name of the drink. Wonder why?

The service was also fantastic. Very friendly and attentive. There is a huge pool in the middle of the entrance. Not sure if you can hop in but I think we can get the old Shooters Sunday pool party going again here!!!!

This place is a secret winner. Don't let the pirates out front scare you off. They become friendly as the night wears on.

15 minutes for a waitress and the place was empty. The food was HORRIBLE- it takes more than a nice waterfront location to stay alive. It's a shame as this place has such potential. I've taken clients here by boat when it was Shirttail Charlie's which was another unsanitary place and it seems as nothing has changed but the name- Never again.

Our family of 10 and 2 babies came by boat to have a "last night of vacation" dinner at Pirate Republic Bar last week. Here's what I think alternating from the bad and the good.

    1) The tables are unmovable so we had to sit at 2 separate picnic tables so my back was to family as I ate.

    2) The Pirate burger was out of this world. 3 of us got one and we all raved about how amazing it was.

    3) The waitress was flustered the whole time even though we were her only table. She wasn't friendly either.

    4) The Kobe burger with cream cheese was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen, and it was incredibly good.

    5) The bill comes.
    5a) No free refills
5b) My dad asked for extra pesto on his chicken sandwich. He was charged 85 cents. When I told the waitress she said "Well, I can pay for it out of my pocket if you want".
5c) My brother is deathly allergic to seafood. He asked if the fries were made in the same fryer as the seafood and she said yes. He said he needed a different side that never went near seafood. She said mashed potatoes. She then charged $2 extra for the mashed potatoes.

    6) The kids chicken nuggets tasted like they picked them up from McDonalds.

So, the food and the restaurant setting were really fantastic. But when you serve wine in plastic cups and charge $2 per soda that is mostly ice, don't nickle and dime us on dinner.

Good place. Neat on the water atmosphere. Though I would not sit down at the very bottom dock near the boats. We did that the first day and were inhaling nasty fuel smells from boats going by, docking in and pulling out while trying to eat our food. The second time we went and sat on the top level, which was a much better experience minus the nasty smells.

Fun Reggae band on Sunday was a nice background noise for the place.

The pirates burger is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! top it with some of their amazing Babaganoush and it's really one of the best things I have ever eaten, and I don't really like burgers.

Friendly staff, reasonably priced. All and all I liked it, and several of my friends I took there at different times were all pleased.

My dinner experience here was nothing special.

    1. Appetizer never came. When she brought the entrees, I told her just to cancel the appetizer. No apology.

    2. Waters didn't get refilled often.

    3. Three different dishes were ordered and they were all seasoned almost identically, even though the menu listed them differently.

    4. For the quality of food, I think we paid too much.

I'd be willing to give it a second chance, though.

I rode the water taxi to the Pirate Bar with high expectations of an incredible "pirate themed" experience, but came to find cheap flags and silly statues of pirates randomly placed in a boring fashion. It's nice that it's on the water with a nice dock, but there's nothing to really look at other than an old railroad track, some non-frequent boat passerby's, with nothing much going on...As far as the "theme", there were no ships or fun relics of pirates just bland boring plain black skull flags. The upstairs bar is a neat area with a great view, but no decorations or personality in a boring open area. You can smoke inside, so it was a tad stinky and uncomfortable.

The staff was just setting up as we arrived so they were a bit slow. But they came out with our drinks quick since no one was really there. They have great beer special, a bucket of 5 for $12. The menu was okay. Not anything extremely special than any other bar. They had a kobe burger that I heard was extremely good, but it's $15. The regular burger was $9.50 and my family ordered that and informed me it was good. I ordered the fish sandwich which I was told was sea bass and it was very welly cooked and seasoned! I was pleasantly surprised and happy. They had sweet potato fries so I gave that a try and they were good, but really under seasoned. My Grandma got the coleslaw and it was good as well.

Overall, I had fun on the girls night out, but this place isn't anything spectacular. It's kinda off the beaten path as well, so there isn't much to watch unless the bar is packed. And it wasn't...

I, on the other hand, am just tickled silly that Shirttail Charlie's has re-opened, even if it's not Shirttail's. I do indeed go for the ambiance, to have a beer in the balmy south Florida breeze and chat with buds while watching boats and trains go by. Call me madcap, but that's the way I am.

I visited Pirate Republic (riverfront) yesterday for lunch and had the pork bbq sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was good. Not great, not 5 star, but I enjoyed it. The Corona bottles were ice cold and refreshing.

Service was fine, although I was sitting right at the bar. I can see where there might be a problem when it gets busy. I'll attribute that to newbie-ness and assume that it will smooth out over time, especially as the season descends upon us this Winter.

The ability to drift up in your boat, climb up in shorts, and sit down to have a drink or a sandwich ranks high in my book. Plus, the typical crowd that this place should draw is more my speed: no pinkies in the air expecting high-falutin service and food.

The street-level bar sits in an oversized kiosk perched above the basin serving the marina next door. The large LCD television had ESPN News on it during my lunch.

There are tables under cover immediately next to the main building as well as picnic tables lining the L-shaped dock along the side of the marina basin and the south bank of the New River.

The upstairs area of the main building that formerly housed the "fine dining" restaurant of Shirttail's is now what my bartender described as a "rock and roll bar". Apparently there is a second bar upstairs as well. Neither serves food, so smoking is permitted. Both are nighttime operations.

So out with the old, in with the new. Consider Pirate Republic on the New River to be a casual bar that serves food, rather than a fancy restaurant that serves drinks and you'll do fine.

I was looking forward to eating here. We took the water taxi to the restaurant. I ordered the lobster bisque which has never disappointed me anywhere else...except here. It was quite bland. We ordered calamari...also bland and the sauce was...you guessed it... Bland. We ordered burgers and and a chicken sandwich. My chicken sandwich was..well you get the picture. Then we had cheesecake...it was ver thick, dry, and yes...a little bland. The bill however was a surprise....paid way too much for bland food. Definitely not going there again.

Food isn't too bad. Service was HORRIBLE. The expensive drink my girlfriend ordered was a joke. Small and watered down.Took forever to get our food. Waitress didn't bring what we asked for. I ordered fish and chips then asked for extra tarter sauce. Waitress didn't bring it till I was done eating. I would never go back, and don't suggest you try it. Alot better places.

UPDATE: We went here to watch the boat parade. We were told to be here early cause it started at 6. We were given a table on the water. The reservations costed us 25.00 (!!!!!) and there were 4 of us. Do the math. This is NOT SoBe mind you.
So it starts to Down pour and we ask if we can just nix the cover charge for the table and hang in the bar. (after all, after an HOUR of being there, there was still no parade and people were leaving left and right). We are told we can NOT hang in the bar cause we made a reservation. She was "nice" enough, and i use that loosely, to sit in doors. (her responce? "what am I supposed to do with your table if you hang in the bar?!" My response "sell it someone else if youre going to be that busy." Yeah, that didnt fly. )  By now the place has cleared out, and im thinking, WHY are we paying $100.00 to be in a dive bar? The servers were soaked, and some were almost in tears cause ol' "Papa Pirate" was yelling at them about walk outs and claiming they had to pay for everyone bills that left! (NOT a good guy too work for it seems).
After working all day at my restaurant, the last thing I want to do is pay to hang out in a stressful environment. Our server (danielle, I think?) was great and was totally busting her butt and was really hustling to make people happy.
in the end, I let her know that we were not going to be paying that ridiculous fee to sit in their place, and gave her her tip in cash. I hope to GOD, someone learns how to do business at this place. Its not like they are right in the line of traffic. People go to places that they hear are fun, and this place, is not one of them.
Oh, and did I mention, that we never even SAW the parade?! We saw about 8 boats pass by in a hurry, cause the parade started EAST of us on the waterway! Nice Pirate bar... nice.

Also, a note to the female manager:
If you are going to run a business, and you want people to take you seriously, stop throwing back bottles of beer when your working. You depend on OUR business, we dont depend on you. Get professional, and treat your guests with respect, and maybe some of them will come back.

    OLD REVIEW:
We were going out on a friends boat and it was docked here, so this is where we went. We got some fish sandwiches which were pretty decent, and they had football on every TV. It has a nice view of the water, and the bartenders were happy and friendly. I thought it was a nice surprise to find a new bar. Its a pretty cool place to get an afternoon drink if your taking the water taxi around, but there were not a ton of people there, so the socializing part was pretty dull.

We went there on Saturday to see a friend's band play. The Pirate Republic is located out of the way, where the old Shirt Tail Charlie's was. The band was awesome! The place was full all night. If it wasn't for the band, we would have left The Pirate Republic immediately. The waitresses acted like they were doing me a favor by serving me. I went to the bar several times only to find waitstaff hanging out, texting on their phones, and smoking!
In addition, I found out that the owner refused to pay the band at the end of the night. From what I heard, the band brought more people than any band since they opened. I will NEVER patronize the Pirate Republic again. SHAME ON THE PIRATE REPUBLIC.
The only reason I gave it one star is that I could not enter Zero stars.

They served me a burger with raw bacon and cold fries. It took them 20 minutes to take it off of our check before we left. The service is rude and keep true the wrench written on the backs of their shirts and the food is worse. Horrible, horrible, horrible.
