This is IT for burgers in Westchester County. The Blazer what? Candlelight who?
First, the atmosphere. This is your typical Irish pub, with the row of regulars lined up at the bar, watching sports, etc. The dining area is very simple, yet clean. They actually did some renovations recently that I didnt love...mostly because when it comes to favorite restaurants, I hate to see things change. However, it is still simple and cozy....a great place for friends and families.
Service- Fast, friendly, on top of their game. The only time you ever have to wait is when they are slammed, but its such a small place that you can always flag down your server or if waiting to be seated, keep an eye on how things are progressing.
So now, the food. Clearly, I come here for the burger but from what Ive heard, everything is great. The onion rings are a fav of mine, great batter, crispy and a sauce that is so good, we have requested extra sauce to take home for leftovers every time we have been there. Then comes the burgers....there are a few different kinds to choose from, all with a New York-inspired name. They are always cooked exactly how you order them and the beef is of a great quality. They come in two different sizes, but even the smaller patty is huge. Regardless of whatever burger you choose, you will not be disappointed.
My ONLY gripe....no take-out.
I've known about Piper's Kilt for a while....I've read the reviews and heard all the great word of mouth, and have tried this place out on several occasions. And at the risk of sounding crazy, I really don't think Piper's Kilt is all that great. The burgers, which are supposedly the best in Westchester (how many places claim that?) are really no better than the ones you can find at any backyard barbecue. Every one that either myself or my girlfriend has ordered has been overcooked until the outside is burnt up, with only a slight amount of juice left to trickle out. Both medium and medium-well burgers come out the same, with no pink inside at all (well-done). I've never had one that was tender or juicy (which I, and most people I know, prefer a burger to be). The fries are also overcooked and too crunchy. I've ordered wings here and they weren't too bad, but I've had much better.
The service here is also a bit sketchy, there's one waiter I've had a few times who has some boundary issues and is a little too forward with customers. And don't grab my glass when it's right in front of my plate while I'm eating, assuming I want a refill. ASK FIRST! As others have mentioned, this is a small place and it gets crowded fast. It often takes a while for them to get your food on the table, longer than burgers and fries should take (approximately 30 min. after ordering is a little too long in my book).
I really wanted to like Piper's Kilt, and gave it several chances, but it just didn't work out.
YUM YUM YUM. They are the best! Yes it gets very crowded, we avoid the weekend & try to go during the week. We used to go to Horsefeathers too for a good burger, but the last couple of times the burgers were overcooked & they charge a lot more . Who needs that?
Pipers Kilt gets the burger right the majority of time.
Awesome burgers!!!! The salad SUCKS tho. French Onion Soup A+++. Mozzerella Sticks ++
This burger joint is so flippin' tastified, you'll sacrifice your education and overall future just for a few bites.
Me & my peers would consistently slough off classes in lieu of attending said pub.
As you can tell by my stunning mastery of the language, cutting those bullshit English classes in favor of gorging myself on this ground beef slice of Jesus has not harmed me.
I suggest opting to eat at this place rather than attending a loved one's wedding, a religious rite, a parent's funeral or even your own grad school commencement. The beef-hocks slung at this brew joint are good enough to miss those once-in-a-lifetime events.
If you consume the beef here, and do not end up throwing a caber in the air while yodeling traditional Scotch folk shepherd hymnal chants, or at least attempting to blow them through a set of bagpipes, then you, sir, are gross.
This is a pretty helluva burger folks. We tried the Easterchester, which comes with chili, fries, and onion rings, and the Bronx Bomber, which is bbq sauce, swiss and grilled onions. Both were very tasty burgers.
The pints of Guinness, Sam A and Harp are pretty cheap as are the eats.
Best part about this location is the service. We choose to go on St. Pats Day, which could have proven to be hell on earth. However, the waitstaff was fantastic to us, attentive without being probing. We'll be back.
Welcome to burger heaven. My parents, of all people, have been raving about this place, and so on my most recent visit to Westchester I insisted that we visit Piper's Kilt so I could see what all the fuss was about. Having had my share of excellent burgers (JG Melon's and PJ Clarke's on the UES, Rare in midtown, Shake Shack, years of In n' Out in CA), I feel like I bring some experience to the table. Piper's Kilt may take the cake. A big, juicy patty, soft sesame bun. The ultra-crispy battered fries are actually nothing to write home about -- next time, I think I'd try the onion rings instead. But wow, that burger. The atmosphere is much like Melon's (packed, narrow bar at the front, small noisy seating area in the back). Be prepared to wait. VERY reasonable prices.
Best burgers in Westchester!!!!!!!! this is true....
What i love about this place is that if you tell them "medium rare" its Medium rare.... whats the point of asking you how you want your meat if you're not gonna make it that way!?!!?!?!?!?
and also, the quality of the meat... its OH SO GOOD!!! so fatty and juicy and the meat is so flavorful!!!!
i recommend the cheddar burger!!!! their fries are awesome too!
This is what all bar food should be. Great burgers. Great burgers. Great burgers.
Best Burger in Westchester, need I say more?
Stick to the burgers or the balsamic chicken salad. Gets very crowded, but worth the wait. Old Pub style atmosphere. Priced To eat. (approx $25 for 2 people)
Excellent burgers made to order! I've been a fan of Piper's Kilt for a very long time and it's been consistent throughout the years. Piper's Kilt gets packed quickly and sometimes there is a wait for a table. Friendly service in a comfortable atmosphere is a plus. I love coming here on weekends with friends. Piper's Kilt rules!
Hot dogs here rock! But its a toss up...now I like Blazin Burgers better. But they still know how to cook up a mean burger!
the burgers are DELISH. truly, they are. perfect size. perfect moisture... and they serve a damn good fry! go early, because it can be a zoo and i mean a ZOO. i could swear an orangutan tried to take my seat when i went to the bathroom. anyway, my one gripe is: they won't let me have a "single" onion ring with my burger. i always request ONE single onion ring (that i am willing to pay for) and i am ALWAYS denied. what is the big deal? there are 6,000 onion rings floating around that place at ANY given moment. it is not like it is this SUPER corporate computer-driven place. it is a small, family-style pub! throw me a DAMN ring!!! other than that, great pub food... in a simple pub atmosphere... prices are reasonable too... EXCEPT when you have to order a FULL order of onion rings just to have ONE! but, this probably isn't a traditional dilemma.
Absolutely the best burgers in Westchester. They're always busy. They usually have dinner specials of some sort but I would go for the burger. Melts in your mouth. The service is ok. Depends on who you get. Sometimes great, sometimes so-so. Always friendly but not always super attentive.
Excellent burgers.
