Review from Janina L.
Erie, PA
After reading some of the reviews on Yelp! and then visiting the restaurant's website, I decided that this was a perfect place to go out with my family. My husband and I are always looking for a family run business with longevity - 39 years - we figured we couldn't go wrong. The wedding soup was flavourful and delicious and set the mood for an excellent dinner. I had some of the homemade gnocchi with red sauce (and my own twist, alfredo on the side) and loved every bit of it. Serving was large enough for another meal to take home. Hubby had his go-to, Rigs and Balls (rigatoni and meatballs) and wasn't disappointed. Son had calzone stuffed with hot italian sausage, pepperoni and meatballs and the pizza sauce on the side. Everybody was thoroughly stuffed and satisfied. Prices were low, staff was dynamite and we plan to make it a regular dining spot. Also took home the delivery menu for those nights when we don't want to vernture out ;) Can't recommend Pio's enough - yummo!

I love love love this place! Talk about a great old Erie joint. The food is filling, hearty, and let's not lie about it, quite fatty. I adore the old Erie pics and memorabilia on the walls and the old-school red plastic Coke cups. I HIGHLY recommend the Reuben Pizza--kraut, pastrami, cheese, and pickles on a dark rye crust. Always hits the spot! Though there's pepperoni balls of course:-) Prices are low and the owners are so nice. Don't leave Erie without checking out this joint.

We ordered both the Bacon Big Lou and the Barbeque Chicken Pizzas. While the Bacon Lou was fantastic (great bacon and feta, perfectly light crust) the BBQ chicken seemed a bit heavy and thick. Our waitress was wonderful and the service was prompt, though $10.99 for a 10" pizza seems a bit pricey. We didn't try the other crust varieties they have.

Yum, yum, yum. Great Erie pizza, good prices, fun jukebox, friendly staff. Picked up a couple of takeout pizzas on our way home from Waldameer one weeknight while visiting Erie. We played their jukebox and drank Mad Anthony Ale while waiting, chatting with Pio's son, and looking at the memorabilia on the walls. I would definitely eat at Pio's a lot if I lived in Erie. In fact, when I did live in Erie, I did eat here a lot, so there!
