A few hours in the afternoon at Pinkie's is my great escape. I have been visiting the Potrero Hill location for a couple of years now, shortly after moving to the neighborhood. Just a short walk up the hill and it feels that I am a million miles away from it all. Thui is my favorite for brows. Her tinting/waxing services are gentle, but super effective. My last service continues to look great, 3 weeks later!

Here's another great experience- For my birthday several weeks ago, I was booked for a delux mani/pedi and brow tint/ wax. The main salon was busy, so I was brought over to the second location across the street. Well, It was my lucky birthday! I had the entire room to myself for my 2 hours of services and total tranquility. It was like a private appointment! Thanks for accommodating me on my special day, Pinkies!

Connie and Derik,

I appreciate your reply to my review of Pinkies, but the fact of the matter is that we did not receive a return phone call from anyone - no missed calls and no messages. Also, my wife does not use any of the skin medications you listed in your private message to me - that is not the issue here. The issue is that the skin above her eyelids suffered burns during an eyebrow waxing at your salon. She is hopeful that she did not get the technician into any trouble. The unfortunate incident should have been addressed by you or whoever was in charge that day with a little more sense of urgency. I will acknowledge to all readers that you did offer money back, but two days too late - it should have been offered the day it happened. No thanks on the other complimentary offerings - she won't be returning to your salon.

Used to go here when the place was still "ManiPedi."  I was a bit skeptical when the Pinkies chain took over; but, boy, am I glad I kept comin' here.

There's another Pinkies Nail Salon, literally, one block from home, in Burlingame; but, I've always just preferred going to Potrero Hill for the sole purpose of visiting this particular Pinkies.  Seriously.  I have *always* received such stellar customer  and salon service here - consistently.  And, time permitting, my 15 y.o. niece still loves to come here to get her brows waxed because she specifically appreciates one esthetician.

You really don't have to pay high spa prices to spend a nice, quiet, relaxing, semi-luxurious afternoon or evening pampering yourself.  I consider it a total indulgence when I treat myself to a treatment at Pinkies in Potrero Hill - I can always justify the gas, time and energy it takes to make the trek for some guaranteed quality service.

Plus, I think it's super cool that they have a facebook page AND you can follow them on Twitter (every once in a while, they post some cool music via tweets and fb status updates)!

Oh, and they're just down the way from Just For You Cafe!  Score!

I *heart* Pinkies!

Sometimes this place is okay and other times it is terrible.  I hadn't been in a while and just went back for a quick manicure.  I won't be going back again because the manicurist mangled my cuticles, leaving three fingers bleeding - totally unacceptable at any price.

Flew into SFO and practically headed straight to Pinkies for some pampering since I looked how I felt. Saw that they were advertising yelp and I decided to take advantage of their offer for a free manicure, since I had been here previously. This made my day. The receptionist was very accommodating and made sure my eyebrow waxing was taken care of while she checked my stats. Annie did a good job shaping my brows, the first time I've really had them thinner, and I've gotten encouraging feedback since then. Howie did my nails and he was a pleasure to talk to, and didn't give me any grief when I messed up my thumbnail. I'm definitely glad I went because I got engaged that weekend and I was able to show it off with a great manicure!

I'm a fan!... of the pedicures so far & hopefully, next time, the manicures - this 1st mani was not soo good.  However, I'll be back to give another chance.

Ok... Here goes!  After moving studios & having to peel stuff off the floor with my fingernails... I decided I'm getting a mani-pedi!  Only done this a handful of times so I don't always know what to expect.

The Pedicure was perfect! Thanks Howie!  Great scrub & massage, amazing shape on my stubby nails, smooth cuticles & picture perfect polish.  (would be 5 stars all the way if it weren't for the manicure)

I've never had a french manicure & usually think they're a little funny, but figured I'd try it out.  The shape is Great but the "french" part ... that little stripe... is a chunky mess that already started cracking (the next day).  I went to dinner & my friend looked at them, there was white under all my nails and they're are all uneven, you can see the manicurist's view point because they are all slanted in the same direction.  Also, I'm not a big fan of using one's own broken fingernail as a hygienic measure to remove nail polish from the edges.

Like I said... never done the french tip so I may just have had un-realistic expectations (maybe they are always a bit thick & lumpy). I'll be back to try again for a standard polish.

I have been going to Pinkies for years and love the service and the wonderful staff.  They are incredibly friendly and get you in right at your appointment time (I have never waited).
I highly recommend Pinkies and introduce my girl friends to Pinkies regularly.  It is my neighborhood hide away.

I came to pinkies today with a friend, it was both of our first time, she just moved close to the salon.  Pinkies had great service, friendly people,  was clean and super cozy/cute inside.  Even though it is farther away from my house I will be back because they did such a great job.  I even smudged a nail and Kim fixed me right up with absolutely no hesitation.  My feet have never looked better, thanks Kim!!

Five stars for Mary and the woman at the front. Oh and for the 'write a yelp review, get a discount' coupon.

Minus two because it's too pricey and the atmosphere is a bit too pretentious for me. I like that it attempts a more bucolic look, with the rustic paints and motif but that gets mired by all these things. Too many of them. I am reminded of crowded boutiques like Ambiance without the clothes. That doesn't make me so happy; quite the contrary.

I have an affinity for clean, comfy, warm settings when I'm at a spa. Nail or health. Hair or otherwise. I have an aversion towards explicit displays of consumerism.

If you could just put at least half of the slippers on sale away. Or maybe even reduce the number of jewelry displayed. I just want to relax, enjoy the tea, and the staff-who are gracious and kind, btw. I'd come back for Mary and the woman at the front, maybe next time I'll put on my blinders to avoid the excess.

And, one another problem that can't really be solved: I also have an aversion to chains. 6 is a little too much for me. Makes me feel like I'm going to the Starbucks of nail salons vs. an intimate, special place. I know. I'm being a stickler. Leaves me rather conflicted since I really appreciated the service.

We'll see where I venture to in the next two weeks.

I've been coming to Pinkie's since the Mani Pedi days. The staff has always been kind and accommodating and the technicians really do a great job. What I love most is that it that the space is very open, comfortable, clean, and always filled with that Potrero Hill sunshine. Added bonuses are the abundant free parking, hot tea, good magazines, and little jars of tootsie rolls (my favorite candy!) they have sitting out.

I went to Pinkies a few times, hoping the quality of work would get better and it did not.

I visited Pinkies recently for a birthday treat, and felt like the total pampered birthday boy! Unlike many boutique day spas I've visited, Pinkies has a very personalized touch and really makes you feel special. I had the luxury mani/pedi with oil/lotion manicure and peppermint scrub pedicure...yum! Pinkies is a little slice of heaven on top of Potrero and I will definitely visit for my next mani/pedi.

Other things to note: The owner and entire staff were SO friendly and really made me at home. They were super dog friendly and even made my little Frenchie feel at home with lots of love and fresh water. Thanks, Pinkies!

Really kind of the owners to send me a message, but I have to stick to my review.  I've been getting my nails done every other week for the past X years and this was not a good quality pedicure for the price.  You really pay for the ambiance, not the services.

I really needed a manicure and an eyebrow wax, badly!! And I didn't have time to drive all the way to the Sunset to go to the greatest nail salon ever (Sensi), so I stopped by here.

I got a manicure with just a buff... My nails were really short an jagged but the lady barely filed them. I had to ask her to make them as clean as possible. Twice! It was such a crappy job...

The waxing was fine, but nothing special.

All that cost me $38... $38 freaking dollars!!! Don't waste your time or your hard earned cash and come here. No way...

I have been waiting for 3 months to get a pedicure (very hard to find places in Italy and Spain), so when I received a coupon to get a free one at this salon I went the next day.

The location is difficult unless you drive, the space is nothing special. We were asked to pay FIRST.. what? This is a SERVICE industry you never pay first, but since mine was free I didn't balk.  Before my toes were painted I checked them and noticed some dirt still under my nails, my lady was too gentile perhaps and didn't realize there was some serious maintenance to be done. Oh well.. then we dry.. and go.  Later that night after removing my shoes my thin layers of polish had WORN OFF!!  I was annoyed even if it was free because now I gotta do my toes over again anyway.

I went onto Citysearch to see why they are rated "Best Of" and turns out it's for their East Bay location and the editorial review is a one liner fill.  Thank goodness for Yelp giving the people the real say in who's top rated.

I made the trek from Colma to Potrero Hill, sometimes every 2 weeks, with my BF in hand to get our bi-weekly manis & pedis after getting our brows done at Benefit on Fillmore, at ManiPedi.  We were such hardcore fans of ManiPedi.  After a while, we knew people by name, it started to feel like family.  You could seriously walk in at any time of the day, I felt like, and easily have 2 people working on you at the same time.

ManiPedi switches to Pinkies.  What a BUMMER.

Observations:

1. To be cost effective, I noticed that instead of having 2 people working on you, it ended up being the same person for both mani and pedi treatments.  That, or your pedi would start halfway through or at the end of your mani.  It seemed that there just wasn't as much staff on hand. So instead of being able to get in and get out in an hour, just as I was able to when ManiPedi ran the place, it was sometimes stretched to an hour and a half.

2. Quite a few of the familiar faces either left or were let go?

3. I appreciate and love the woman who runs the front desk.  I never did get her name but she's attentive, accommodating and just warm.

4. I had a $50 Pinkies gift card (BEWARE: keep your receipts for every time you use your GC. apparently, the computer is unable to keep track of your balance or something?) I had $14 left on my card, and when it was swiped, it showed a 0 balance.  But if it hadn't been for my memory of past visits, I wouldn't have been able to use the rest of my card.  Wack.

5. I was relaxing in the bungalow across the street when one of the front desk ladies, I don't know her name (I didn't see her anymore after the incident), yelled disrespectfully to one of the nail technicians, she was merely asking for clarification, "Well I said you had a pedicure!" in front of all of us sitting in the bungalow.  Rude.  Disrespectful.  Unprofessional.  Bad for business, chick.

6. The place just isn't the same.  So I haven't been back.

I think it is really sad what this place has become after changing management and becoming Pinkies.  I used to LOVE this place when it was Mani Pedi.  Now, it totally stinks!  There has never been an appointment that started on time since it changed hands for me.  I have seen the receptionist yell at the technicians more then once on more then one occasion.  The technicians themselves, I LOVE but tend to get confused, but I blame that on the receptionists.  It is no longer the friendly, warm, efficient place it used to be.

The final straw was my last visit about a month ago.  I had a 3:00 appointment that didn't start until 3:20.  During this wait time, a customer who came in after me, who's appointment was after me was catered to first, with two technicians, while I had to wait until one would see me.  She had to do a mani pedi in 30 minutes when she should have had an hour.

It's not the first time its happened.  So I won't be going back.  I gave the place way to many shots.  And I was disappointed 95% of the time.

If anything, they just need to be nicer, the staff.  Not the technicians.

I really used to love this place when it was Mani Pedi.

But, *sigh*, times have changed.

While the site has retained the relaxed "shabby chic" environment, the quality of the manicures have steadily declined over the last several months. The workmanship was so poor recently, that I actually asked for a different tech to re-do my polish. Trust me, it was bad - clumpy, streaky and all over my cuticles.

The front desk staff, with a few exceptions, are not very friendly to customers or staff.  Please ladies, show the techs and patrons a bit of respect.

I've seen the owner in the salon every once in awhile and morale seems to improve when she is present.  But unless she hires better front desk help and institutes a bit of quality control, I am not going to return.

I knew Carmen the manger of Portrero from the Los Altos location... she is so friendly and makes you feel right at home.

Make sure you ask for the deluxe pedicure so you can get your 10 minute massage and salt/sugar scrub.. it is WAY worth it.

I had a celebration with some friends last Friday and they sent us over to their location across the street so we could be alone (the 4 of us) and let us drink champagne. They are very attentive and do a fabulous job.

I did have my nails done recently too.. she did gel and although they look good, it took her 1 hour and 45 minutes to finish them. I assume since it was our fist time she was trying to do a great job but I have never had "fills" done in more than an hour.

Try to see if you like it, I am a happy customer for pedicures may think twice about my gel fills

I can't speak for the nail side of things, but their waxers are awesome.  There's something to be said for actually not feeling 100% humiliation as you're spread eagle in front of a stranger, knowing the pain that's about to ensue.  I've been to two different people there, cute little asain sweeties that both made the process as easy and non-embarrassing as possible.  Not to mention they're great and thorough attention to detail.  They are now my go-to people for pre-vacation razor liberation.

The only reason I even tried to come back here is because it's really close to my house and I was trying to plan a mani/pedi bachelorette party event.  They were super nice to me on the phone, but then when I showed up with the bride-to-be and other bridesmaids they were incredibly rude and told me that since we were a few minutes late we could only get "mini-manis" and pulled a nasty attitude.  I felt awful for the bride-to-be.

Um, I booked you guys ahead of time, and I am bringing you business.  Also, why are you nice to me on the phone, but when you see what I look like, you're totally rude?  I think I have to second the other reviewers that feel this place is RACIST.  Same experience again with the several white receptionists standing around in the front not doing anything.  I will NEVER set foot in this place again.  We went to Modern Nail Bar instead.  As we should have done in the first place!!

Apparently they changed ownership, I miss, miss MISS the old Mani Pedi.  This new place has awful service.  I called to see if they did gel overlays on natural nails, the girl on the phone barked at me, she was like "No", and I was like, "On your website it says that you do though.." and she LITERALLY sighed for a good 2-3 seconds and was like, "hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, no, we don't do that at this salon", and I asked why again, because it's on their website, she replied with, "The OTHER salons do them" then she hung up.

Yuk.  I want to give them a try, but for cryin' out loud, have some manners!

I don't know about this place.  From the outside, it presents itself like the type of place where I would willingly pay $44 for a mani-pedi (that's what they charge).  Once you actually get the mani-pedi, though, it feels no different than a $19 mani-pedi.  I agree with some of the previous reviews that their nail and cuticle trimming is... severe.  The polish is okay, but one nail got messed up and when I mentioned it, the lady quickly nodded and just covered it up instead of re-doing the nail.  Now the nail just looks like it has a ding on it covered up by polish.  But it does look like it will last and the overall job is a good one.  They also charged some sort of "cleaning" fee on top of the mani-pedi price.  I find this odd b/c other places don't charge this; they just include it in the price!

On another note, I find the racial divide of the staff to be a little disturbing.  Everyone who greets you at the counter (3 ladies) were all of one skin color and spoke perfect English.  Everyone who is actually doing the mani's and pedi's is of another skin color and don't speak much English.  I guess I'd rather go to those $19 mani-pedi places where there isn't a glassy-noodle ceiling.  I think I'll stick to Quince for my upscale mani-pedi.

I like me a Mani-Pedi.
Been going to places in the city for a while now and while there are many places that I like, this is by far the best one I have had.

My Nails are buffed to a high gloss and feet are happy beyond belief.

Did a walk in with my wife and 14 year old niece and they did a great job accommodating us.

Super nice and probably the finest 30 fingers and toes that the city has ever seen!

I will start out by saying I liked this place tons more when it was Mani Pedi. Its was always packed(but in a good, fun and organized way) and I rarely got a bad pedicure.
I still go now that its pinkies but my pedicures are a little hit or miss, sometimes they really suck. The new protocol for a lot of the staff seems to be to do that icky -make a line all around the edge of your nail with the edge of their own fingernail dipped in polish remover so that your polish doesn't go to the edges of your nails. I guess this is to clean up sloppy brush techniques but for me it creates a blob of polish in the center of my nail that then peels off in one big chunk a day or two later. Please stop doing nails that way, it looks awful and doesn't last, at all.
The front desk staff is still incredibly friendly and takes really good care of me and the nail techs are really nice and work really hard.
I got waxed one time about 2 years ago (don't remember if it was pinkies or manis at that time)and the waxing lady was condescending and seemed really irritated with her job. Waxing is not a fun time to begin with and then I get stuck with a rude jerk, no thanks.

I've recently been told I wasn't  girlie enough because I am good at parallel parking. (laughing............can't stop laughing.) Pretty funny I know.

My friend takes me to Pinkies. I usually go to Mara's but I guess it's healthy to try new places. These ladies were very eager. I was offered tear-water every ten minutes. Which only later found out they were offering tea or water, not tear water. I was amusing myself Imagining a girl in the back crying into a glass to serve the customers.

As any "girlie" knows getting a pedi is a great opportunity to read all the best gossip magazines. But hadn't realized I was more into the magazines then the pedi and by the time I looked up she was almost done. I said I didn't like the color and the world stopped for a minute. All the ladies looked at me. A dog looked in through the outside. The girl doing my nails gasped. I quickly changed my mind. I I I like the color, No I love the color.

Please don't make the girl cry so they can serve up some more tear-water.

Previously Mani-Pedi, but sold to Pinkies, a Bay Area chain. All of the staff is virtually the same, but the decor is now more taupe sophistication rather than beach-ball festive.

I was greeted by very friendly staff and was able to get in for a pedicure the same day. Everything from the brands of nail polish to the half-hearted leg massage to the price ($27 for pedi, $40 for mani and pedi) was pretty standard.

Ladies note: you can abandon the birth control if you come here with any frequency, because the toxic fumes are guaranteed to curdle your ovaries. My eyes were tearing up it was so bad last weekend, but before you toss the pills and run for Potrero Hill, note that they said they are working on the ventilation problem.

Also, closed Tuesdays.

Nice place, definitely an upscale nail salon - the kind of place you can relax in and not worry about getting a staph infection from unsterilized equipment.

Confusingly, there are 2 locations across the street from each other, and there's no rhyme or reason to the division between the two.

I got a good pedicure. Nuthin' special, but it was done well. A bit pricier than you can find elsewhere, but like I said, it's a nice, upscale place.

I, too, used to be a loyal Mani-Pedi customer and decided to try the new Pinkies.  I had the worst manicure and pedicure experience ever.  I made the mistake of trying a new salon the day before my wedding.  I asked for French nails and a pedicure, which were done, but the woman filed my nails so much that the skin on my fingers and toes were filed too.  I told her it was really hurting me, and she said, "Sorry."  When she used acetone to clean up the polishes, the acetone completely stang my raw skin.  I asked her to stop, but again, she said, "Sorry," and just wiped the acetone off those areas.  My bridesmaids all saw my raw skin later and told me this is really abnormal and terrible manicure and pedicure service.  I ran out of the salon on heels while my polish was drying and avoided eye-contact to pay gratuity.

Running on heels with wet polish is hard.

4 stars off: filing the skin around my nails until it was raw

I really am picky when it comes to this kind of service.  I have been to lots 'o places and I think this is the best.  It is more expensive but the service is way better and the polish stays on for 2 weeks.  It's clean and soothing.  I don't have to listen to some stupid TV on ( always on too low to actually hear it) or someone speaking in another language that always makes me wonder if they are talking about me.  You know how that goes.  No phones ringing..no fast and furious in and out.  These guys are slow are careful.  I go to one woman there in particular because I get acrylics but I'm not telling her name or she'll be unavailable to me.  Ok, her name is Thi and she is fabulous!  The staff are attentive and gracious.  Like the saying goes, "You get what you pay for."

Since they still accept gift certificates for the former Mani-Pedi, I redeemed mine over the weekend for two pedicures. My sister and I made had two appointments, but after running into traffic, they were only able to push one back since surprisingly they were completely booked! Upon arrival, the technicians were nice enough to take us both and stay beyond their scheduled shift. The location is spacious and cute with easy parking, but that's about it.

My technician was friendly and did a French pedicure on my toes at no extra charge. But at $27, it still wasn't one of the best pedicure services I've had. My sister's technician managed to use her nippers a bit too deep causing her toe to bleed. Pinkies doesn't quite live up to what I've heard about the former Mani-Pedi. It's a bit pricey for the mediocre service. Looks like I'll be taking my business elsewhere for the same price AND with a mani included.

This review is for the waxing services by Annie, as that's pretty much what I go in for 95% of the time.  Annie is the best!  She is the only one I trust to do my brow & lip waxes.  She is uber-detailed and takes care to trim, pluck & wax your brows into perfect shape.  Plus, she's a total sweetheart.  I did get my brow waxed by some other person there once when Annie wasn't in (can't remember the name), but it was one of the worst experiences ever.  She was sloppy, fast and just a disaster.  She couldn't find the strangler hairs even though she was using this huge magnifying glass.  I came out swearing I'd never let anyone but Annie touch my brows again!
Minus a couple of stars for the scheduling snafu's I suffered in the past.  Once I specifically asked for Annie in an appointment.  It was confirmed.  When I called back day to verify, the front desk person 1) said that Annie wasn't available for that time anymore, 2) wouldn't bother trying to move her schedule around to accommodate me (when it was THEIR scheduling problem) and 3) was apathetic and unapologetic.  After that, I banned Pinkie's for about 4 months.  But just couldn't find someone as good as Annie, so I sold my soul and came back.
To be fair, since I came back, the front desk / scheduling people have been much, much nicer & better, but I'm wary.  We'll wait and see.
I'm going to try a pedi today.  Let's see how that goes!

The old Mani Pedi has morphed into Pinkies, and it looks more or less the same (though perhaps some of the "summerhouse" decorations are gone).  The old place had the shabby chic vibe going, and while it still does, it didn't strike me as quite so charming.  At the same time, there are cute accessories, and I had a perfectly fine pedicure today, and it's near where I live, so I'm happy for that.

Gift idea:  a gift certificate is always a good idea!

I, too, used to go here when it was ManiPedi.  Even then, it was borderline for me.  I was a witness to seeing and hearing the owner yell at her employees and bark at them for various reasons.  No wonder she sold the place, she looked like her head could explode at a moment's notice.  But other than that, the techs themselves were very nice and welcoming.  And I agree with Kate M when she says that it had a very Potrero Hill vibe to it.

I think what made this stock plummet is the fact that Pinkies is a chain!  A chain, people!  What's worse is that it's a chain from small-town chic suburbia, like Danville, Burlingame, Los Altos, etc.  So I feel robbed of my unique Potrero Hill experience.

One weekend, I was on my way to Concord and decided to stop at the Pinkies in Lafayette.  I went in at 6 (the place closes at 7) and there was only 1 person getting her nails done, and 3 technicians not doing anything.  I asked the receptionist for a pedicure, she gives me a dirty look and tells me that they took the last client already.  At 6?  You took the last client at 6 when you close at 7?  Yeah, right.

So I'd give the entire Pinkies chain NO stars, but I can't.

Go to Modern Nail Bar just a few blocks away.  They're fantastic.

3.5 Stars - I wish we could give the half stars!

Well, it's better than the old Mani:Pedi! I vowed to never return to this location but I had a certificate :-) Actually, I was pleasantly surprised. I was a little worried given the reviews and mani/pedis are my bi-monthly guilty pleasures and would not want to waste time if I knew it would be terrible. But management changed. Perhaps, given these other reviews, sometimes it just takes time to work out the kinks.

The owner (I think it was the owner) was super friendly and attentive. I loved her dog!! The staff was very nice. They did a great job putting on the polish but they could have spent more time massaging. The mancurist cut my skin :-( It took a total of 45 minutes to complete my mani/pedi.  :-((

Well, you get what you pay for. I had a certificate for the pedi so with tip I only paid  ~ $20. My normal place charges a lot more and I'm alway in heaven.

Make no mistake: Pinkie's isn't a spa. It's a simple, neighborhood nail salon. It offers nail services, waxing services and even a chair massage. It is staffed by women and the prices are fair.

I popped in for a quick french manicure and it was a lovely, efficient, well-done experience. She definitely trimmed the fuck out of my cuticles, but she also did a very meticulous job on the polish, so I can't complain.

I don't know that I would pursue a more "intense" relationship with Pinkie's, but I'd definitely go back for a "quickie" if the need arose.

pinkie's is great! the staff, especially oge, is very kind and accommodating.
my toes look amazing after every visit.
it is a trek but great views along the way
the owner is super sweet, and they are a lot more friendly than the little nail shops on every other street corner
love the green tea while i'm being pampered!
