Nice place, definitely an upscale nail salon - the kind of place you can relax in and not worry about getting a staph infection from unsterilized equipment.

Confusingly, there are 2 locations across the street from each other, and there's no rhyme or reason to the division between the two.

I got a good pedicure. Nuthin' special, but it was done well. A bit pricier than you can find elsewhere, but like I said, it's a nice, upscale place.

Love the location. I go with a gal pal. We walked in the other day....they couldn't accomodate us for an hour so we went down the street to the neighboring cafe for a glass of wine. It all worked out.

i came here because i once walked in and was immediately smitten with the ambiance and also because i finally live close enough to go without having to drive out of my way. that said, i was pretty stoked to finally have a good reason to get my toenails painted (a rare treat for me).

they were able to fit me in when i requested an apt with no problem. when i got there even with an apt i had to wait about 10 min for my mini-pedi to start. normally i don't sweat this kind of thing but i had to leave for a wedding in a few hours so i didn't have time to waste and i was mildly irritated that they didn't seem to be even remotely ready for me.

the mini-pedi was nice except that i didn't realize that an $8 polish change included a soak, cuticle push, and nail shaping... had I known i wouldn't have done it myself the night before :)

i asked how the bins are sanitized and the receptionist told me they use "hospital grade sanitizer" and dish soap, scrub and then run the jets. i guess that's as good as you can get but i'm always kinda skeptical about public foot bins and i never have my cuticles cut because i don't like to share tools that cut skin.

the woman who did my toes was nice and attentive. i had a bit of champagne while she worked on me but i had to ask for it after seeing other women with bevys. i was a little miffed that they weren't ready for me, they didn't even have a place for me to sit when i came in and they didn't offer me something to drink when clearly it was part of their service package.

after polishing my toes the woman who was helping me cleaned up and walked away. she didn't offer me to the drier or anything. after a while i finally asked if i could go under the drier and the receptionist set it up for me.

the drier nearly scalded my feet! the woman next to me and i both had to actually take our feet out after a few minutes because the heat was so high it was like being in an oven 2in from your skin. i *much* prefer the driers that are UV light or whatever instead of direct painful heat. my toes dried and the woman who'd been polishing me came over to give me my shoes (which were actually another woman's shoes sitting near me) and help me finish up.

here's the kicker: when i got home and checked my toes 2hrs later to make sure they were dry before leaving the house they had bubbles in the polish! the top coat wasn't fully over the whole nail and the bubbles have since picked up dirt and now appear like black bumps. i called to tell them this and they credited "my account" the $8. i'll go back because i have this credit and give them another chance, but since i'm going to another event this weekend i'm not going to take the chance this time, i'll try another spot and see if it's any better than pinkies.

Apparently they changed ownership, I miss, miss MISS the old Mani Pedi.  This new place has awful service.  I called to see if they did gel overlays on natural nails, the girl on the phone barked at me, she was like "No", and I was like, "On your website it says that you do though.." and she LITERALLY sighed for a good 2-3 seconds and was like, "hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, no, we don't do that at this salon", and I asked why again, because it's on their website, she replied with, "The OTHER salons do them" then she hung up.

Yuk.  I want to give them a try, but for cryin' out loud, have some manners!

I came here because I got a coupon for a complimentary pedicure and decided to try out the place.  Overall, I had an enjoyable experience.  The place is initially confusing because Pinkie's has 2 locations across the street from each other.  I had to go to one place to sign in, and then across the street for my pedi.  The people here are friendly and parking is easy.  The foot massage could had been better, but the lady did a good job with the polish .  AND they had a sidewalk sale yesterday, so I ended up getting an OPI polish for $1.  Sweet!  I'll definitely go back to try out their other services and see whether a paid pedi is any different...

I don't know about this place.  From the outside, it presents itself like the type of place where I would willingly pay $44 for a mani-pedi (that's what they charge).  Once you actually get the mani-pedi, though, it feels no different than a $19 mani-pedi.  I agree with some of the previous reviews that their nail and cuticle trimming is... severe.  The polish is okay, but one nail got messed up and when I mentioned it, the lady quickly nodded and just covered it up instead of re-doing the nail.  Now the nail just looks like it has a ding on it covered up by polish.  But it does look like it will last and the overall job is a good one.  They also charged some sort of "cleaning" fee on top of the mani-pedi price.  I find this odd b/c other places don't charge this; they just include it in the price!

On another note, I find the racial divide of the staff to be a little disturbing.  Everyone who greets you at the counter (3 ladies) were all of one skin color and spoke perfect English.  Everyone who is actually doing the mani's and pedi's is of another skin color and don't speak much English.  I guess I'd rather go to those $19 mani-pedi places where there isn't a glassy-noodle ceiling.  I think I'll stick to Quince for my upscale mani-pedi.

I got my french mani pedi a month ago. I hope it doesn't startle anyone that I speak the truth--I still have my pedicure mostly in tact! I'll probably say goodbye this week. My manicure however, tragically chipped away little by little about a week after. But they were both beautiful and since I'm not usually into the whole pampering bit (gift certificate) I forgot to wear flipflops so they provided me with the fluorescent green one-size-fits-all foam for your feet. Why NEON?! Subtlety might be nice when I have to walk to my car in them.

Overall, my experience there was a little rushed in the beginning and then a bit long-winded, lasting about an hour. The nail technicians were sweet and talked to me about their families (there's a mother daughter duo there and you would never guess it). The girl doing my nails was engaged and she kept complimenting the condition of my nails. Finally she said, "Tell your boyfriend 'look how pretty my nails are--now they just need a ring!" Very clever, trevor.

3.5 Stars - I wish we could give the half stars!

Well, it's better than the old Mani:Pedi! I vowed to never return to this location but I had a certificate :-) Actually, I was pleasantly surprised. I was a little worried given the reviews and mani/pedis are my bi-monthly guilty pleasures and would not want to waste time if I knew it would be terrible. But management changed. Perhaps, given these other reviews, sometimes it just takes time to work out the kinks.

The owner (I think it was the owner) was super friendly and attentive. I loved her dog!! The staff was very nice. They did a great job putting on the polish but they could have spent more time massaging. The mancurist cut my skin :-( It took a total of 45 minutes to complete my mani/pedi.  :-((

Well, you get what you pay for. I had a certificate for the pedi so with tip I only paid  ~ $20. My normal place charges a lot more and I'm alway in heaven.

I, too, used to be a loyal Mani-Pedi customer and decided to try the new Pinkies.  I had the worst manicure and pedicure experience ever.  I made the mistake of trying a new salon the day before my wedding.  I asked for French nails and a pedicure, which were done, but the woman filed my nails so much that the skin on my fingers and toes were filed too.  I told her it was really hurting me, and she said, "Sorry."  When she used acetone to clean up the polishes, the acetone completely stang my raw skin.  I asked her to stop, but again, she said, "Sorry," and just wiped the acetone off those areas.  My bridesmaids all saw my raw skin later and told me this is really abnormal and terrible manicure and pedicure service.  I ran out of the salon on heels while my polish was drying and avoided eye-contact to pay gratuity.

Running on heels with wet polish is hard.

4 stars off: filing the skin around my nails until it was raw

This place gets any stars at all from me because the pedicurist was great and the owner was super nice and had a cute dog.

The receptionists need to get their respective acts together - why are there 2-3 of them behind the counter at any given time?  Why is it that they tell you repeatedly they can't fit you in for a pedicure when there are fewer pedicurists (all hard-working immigrants) working in the back than there are receptionists (all obnoxious non-immigrants) standing around doing nothing in the front?

I'm going back to Modern Nail Bar, even though it's a further trek.

I Love pinkies!  Great customer service, wonderful Mani Pedis that last  a long time....my Pedi lasted almost a month! Very positive energy with everyone who works there. You can go into Pinkies stressed and find yourself relaxed and in a wonderful mood when you leave. From the minute you walk in to the minute you walk out, the receptionists are always there to smile  and greet you in and out. My favorite by far! Best parking in all of SF!

I have to drive here but  there's parking -one star up.

They have another place off Burlingame Ave that I went to when I worked in RC. Both spas are super clean and none of that point -n-sit and 10 minutes crap. My bff Lisa goes to that cheap hole off Mission. Save 2 bucks, wait an hour, sit a yucky grandpa recliner 'n lose a toe...sorry girl but someone had say it! My place doesn't use mystery polish that chips off by dinner and they treat me like a human.

I too used to come here when it was Mani pedi.  But I made an appt for a pedicure for sat, to arrive and find out that the receptionist had screwed up and they couldn't fit me in.  Instead of offering me a discount on my next one, she just said sorry.....sorry ain't good enough for me.  I tried Dolci on 18th for the first time and LOVED it - way nicer, cleaner, and 7 dollars cheaper.  Bye bye pinkies.

Horrible. And I'm not just saying that without any reason.

I tried not once, not twice but three times to give this place some benefit of the doubt -- bad day for the manicurist, the humidity in the air, I was one of the last customers of the day. But really? Three strikes?!

I used to be a Mani Pedi loyal customer so when this placed changed management I pretty much thought things wouldn't change.

I was wrong.

I got an acrylic fill and gel overcoat last Thursday. It's Weds and I have a lifted nail, a broken nail and two others that are chipping on the sides. Um, what? AND it's more expensive that my neighborhood salon? Ohhh helllz no!

Need a place for a mani pedi? Move on. This place sucks.

Make no mistake: Pinkie's isn't a spa. It's a simple, neighborhood nail salon. It offers nail services, waxing services and even a chair massage. It is staffed by women and the prices are fair.

I popped in for a quick french manicure and it was a lovely, efficient, well-done experience. She definitely trimmed the fuck out of my cuticles, but she also did a very meticulous job on the polish, so I can't complain.

I don't know that I would pursue a more "intense" relationship with Pinkie's, but I'd definitely go back for a "quickie" if the need arose.

I've recently been told I wasn't  girlie enough because I am good at parallel parking. (laughing............can't stop laughing.) Pretty funny I know.

My friend takes me to Pinkies. I usually go to Mara's but I guess it's healthy to try new places. These ladies were very eager. I was offered tear-water every ten minutes. Which only later found out they were offering tea or water, not tear water. I was amusing myself Imagining a girl in the back crying into a glass to serve the customers.

As any "girlie" knows getting a pedi is a great opportunity to read all the best gossip magazines. But hadn't realized I was more into the magazines then the pedi and by the time I looked up she was almost done. I said I didn't like the color and the world stopped for a minute. All the ladies looked at me. A dog looked in through the outside. The girl doing my nails gasped. I quickly changed my mind. I I I like the color, No I love the color.

Please don't make the girl cry so they can serve up some more tear-water.

I, too, used to go here when it was ManiPedi.  Even then, it was borderline for me.  I was a witness to seeing and hearing the owner yell at her employees and bark at them for various reasons.  No wonder she sold the place, she looked like her head could explode at a moment's notice.  But other than that, the techs themselves were very nice and welcoming.  And I agree with Kate M when she says that it had a very Potrero Hill vibe to it.

I think what made this stock plummet is the fact that Pinkies is a chain!  A chain, people!  What's worse is that it's a chain from small-town chic suburbia, like Danville, Burlingame, Los Altos, etc.  So I feel robbed of my unique Potrero Hill experience.

One weekend, I was on my way to Concord and decided to stop at the Pinkies in Lafayette.  I went in at 6 (the place closes at 7) and there was only 1 person getting her nails done, and 3 technicians not doing anything.  I asked the receptionist for a pedicure, she gives me a dirty look and tells me that they took the last client already.  At 6?  You took the last client at 6 when you close at 7?  Yeah, right.

So I'd give the entire Pinkies chain NO stars, but I can't.

Go to Modern Nail Bar just a few blocks away.  They're fantastic.

Wow. I can't believe it. I had moved away for almost two years and recently returned to San Francisco. I was a kinda-sorta Mani Pedi customer before I left cuz, even though it was really convenient for me, the services was soooooooo harried and rushed I was never relaxed. My friend told me to try Pinkies (old Mani Pedi) and I was really hesitant after reading the reviews.
Well search no more! Even though I have to drive across town I will never go anywhere else again. I've been several times and it's always been terrific. During the day, during the week is the best as things are super relaxed and I actually fell asleep in my comfy chair. I've been in on Saturday and although things run much faster everyone is still super friendly and the service is still totally great. Best part is when I make an appointment they keep it! Unlike the old Mani Pedi that still made you wait half an hour. The staff is pretty much the same as before but the old owner isn't there to yell and make everyone nervous.

I got a fantastic Brazilian (they call it take-it-all-off here....not sure why) and my manicure and pedicures always last even though I'm really hard on them.

I'm going back for a spray tan as soon as it's warm.

I've found home............and the best part is it's super clean.

Oh, and don't be so ignorant......that is not a "cleaning charge". If you had been to any decent restaurants you'd know about the San Francisco health care ordinance.....jeeezzzz.

NOTE-- this rating is based on the brow waxing here which is a *great* deal and very convenient. I can always walk in or get an appt later in the day that I am interested, and the gal (Annie) I always get puts care and thought into shaping, trimming and plucking. I have been to several fancier salons and paid more money only to feel hurried out.

I've also gone for a mani/pedi which I felt was about worth the money. Like another Yelper here I felt my nail tech went a little nuts with the nippers and it might be that I am just fussy, but Man, slow the fcuk down. Ever since then, wherever I go for mani/pedis I tell the people don't nip. Added to my list of anxieties, thanks.

Bonus though they gave a great and long foot and hand massage.

I made an appointment here after driving by one day and thinking it looked like a good spot.  About 10 minutes before my appointment I did a search on Yelp to get the exact address.  I started reading the reviews and got scared!  But after reading all these bad reviews, I feel compelled to put my own up, because my experience there was really great.
The front desk staff weirded me out with their pushiness of tea or water, and their nervous energy.  It was like they were going to get severly punished if they did not perform every duty in a very specific way.  That was the worst of my experience.
Thi was the lovely lady who waxed my eyebrows, taking time and care to shape them nicely.  I usually go to Benefit where they throw your head against a wall, slap some wax on your face and tear it off.
So this was a nice change for me, as well as about eight bucks cheaper.
Thi also gave me my pedicure.  She didn't clip too close, she massaged well, and she did a bang up job on my toes.

In the middle of my pedicure, a nervous front staff person came by (again) to ask if I wanted tea or water.  After refusing the first six times, I finally broke down and said yes, water please.  Everything screeched to a halt, "You didn't get any yet?"  The nervous front desk reception lady asked, her eyes wide with disbelief at her mistake.  I assured her it was only because I had said no before.  Phew, everyone at ease.

I even messed up two of my toes TWO times and Thi was very gracious and sweet about redoing them, even though I could tell by the second time she was probably a little annoyed.

If the front of the house could just calm themselves, this place would be more relaxing for its customers.

Since they still accept gift certificates for the former Mani-Pedi, I redeemed mine over the weekend for two pedicures. My sister and I made had two appointments, but after running into traffic, they were only able to push one back since surprisingly they were completely booked! Upon arrival, the technicians were nice enough to take us both and stay beyond their scheduled shift. The location is spacious and cute with easy parking, but that's about it.

My technician was friendly and did a French pedicure on my toes at no extra charge. But at $27, it still wasn't one of the best pedicure services I've had. My sister's technician managed to use her nippers a bit too deep causing her toe to bleed. Pinkies doesn't quite live up to what I've heard about the former Mani-Pedi. It's a bit pricey for the mediocre service. Looks like I'll be taking my business elsewhere for the same price AND with a mani included.

They had a free manicure voucher on their website so that was enough for me. Popped in and had the full monty manicure...I was expecting just a quick touch up as it was free.

Cute spot, the woman (Lan) that did my nails was good. Not much of a mani or pedi person but when I feel the need I'm sure this will be my most likely spot.

Previously Mani-Pedi, but sold to Pinkies, a Bay Area chain. All of the staff is virtually the same, but the decor is now more taupe sophistication rather than beach-ball festive.

I was greeted by very friendly staff and was able to get in for a pedicure the same day. Everything from the brands of nail polish to the half-hearted leg massage to the price ($27 for pedi, $40 for mani and pedi) was pretty standard.

Ladies note: you can abandon the birth control if you come here with any frequency, because the toxic fumes are guaranteed to curdle your ovaries. My eyes were tearing up it was so bad last weekend, but before you toss the pills and run for Potrero Hill, note that they said they are working on the ventilation problem.

Also, closed Tuesdays.

I'm surprised by all the bad reviews of Pinkies. I never went to Mani Pedi, so I can't compare the two, but I thoroughly enjoyed my recent pedicure and am set to go back in two weeks. I wish I could remember the name of my nail tech. She was wonderful and she really took a lot of time on my calloused and banged-up runner's feet. I came in a mess and I left with soft, sexy feet and a lovely French pedicure. Minus one star because I've had more massage in the past and I'm spoiled for it now.

On the whole, I'm not one to indulge in unnessecesary 'girly' grooming practices.  But my one thing is nails ... and thusly I'm super picky.  The rating is more a 2.5 than a 3.

First it's important to note that when we're talking manicures, I only pay for the French variety.  If I want color, I do it my damn self because manicures don't tend to last long enough to justify the cost.

That being said, when it comes to the French Manicures at Pinkies ... it's a crapshoot.  Sometimes I walk out the place with the best manicure of my life, AND it lasts for two weeks.  And then sometimes I look at my nails and wonder why I just paid $23 for someone to shit on my fingernails .. and it chips after a day or two.

I've noticed that when you get the first appointment of the morning (and the right manicurist) the service and quality of the paint job is way better.  Later in the day the technicians are grumpy, tired, usually behind schedule and want to get you the fuck out of there, so they rush the job and don't do it well.

Now pedicures are a slightly different story.  I've only had one 'bad' pedicure there, and it was pretty bad.  The woman doing my toes butchered the shit out of the cuticle on my big toe and it was bleeding for like 20 minutes.  She didn't even say sorry.  Aside from the cuticle butchering episode, my pedicures have been well done and last quite a while.

In conclusion I should probably try to find another nail salon ... but that whole early morning/right manicurist combo keeps me comin' back.

I'd been a loyal customer of ManiPedi for 2.5 years, and while I was a very happy camper before, this place has drastically gone downhill since it changed ownership to Pinkies Salon.

They've hired on additional staff -- people who obviously have very little experience working with hands and feet. Not only that, my nail specialist had me sit in a spa chair that was completely broken, and had me dip my feet into cold, cold water without any of the jets on (because again, the chair was not functioning). I had to ask to switch chairs (mind you, there were 3 other fully functional chairs open at the time), and the woman tried to start on my nails as I sat in a stool and she scrubbed the other spa chair's foot soaker clean. I had to ask that she not start on my pedi with ONE friggin hand!!!

WHAT THE HELL AM I PAYING $28 PLUS TIP FOR?!?

Yes, the management could tell I was really confused, frustrated and not as relaxed as I'd hoped to be stepping into the place, and they did offer me a free pedi for my next visit, but I definitely won't be returning to redeem that.

Luckily, two completely new nail salons have *just* opened in the neighborhood (Potrero Hill) -- hopefully, I'll find a much better substitute in one of them.

Friendly staff, hot green tea or water served, pretty decor.....and very clean....Premium Mani & Pedi....minty foot scrub and 10 min. massage...can't get any better than that! If you want to get waxed...you have to ask for Annie....she's wonderful.

I agree with others' comments about the new management ... the staff is very brusque and rude. They need some lessons in customer service.
Mary is the only reason I return ... she does a good pedi.

Same comments as a lot of the below customers - I was a loyal customer of Mani Pedi and sad to see it go.  Since I live in the neighborhood - I could see that it was mostly the same staff - and like most people I was hoping we wouldn't notice a difference with the new ownership and dorky name.  Unfortunately...

The new staff is definitely for the worse (Tracy J must work there...) - particularly those on the desk.  My first appointment with a friend, they screwed up and were unapologetic to the point of rudeness.

The saddest thing is that mani pedi had a funky friendly SAN FRANCISCO vibe - it wasn't just about the manipedi (which was great btw) - it was about coming and relaxing with your girlfriends.  Pinkies is completely different - the new decor is kitschy and gaudy - trying too hard to be "girly" (Mani Pedi = Portero, Pinkies = Marina like oh my god!) - and to make matters worse, several times when I've walked by there was a princess party for 8 years olds or something.  That was enough for me.

I was an every 4 weeks Sunday morning 10 AM regular at Mani Pedi for a number of years. I gave Pinkies two tries before I gave up. The management at this place is awful. The only reason that I gave it one star is that the spa chairs are still thoroughly cleaned between customers.

A number of the good manicurists from Mani Pedi are gone. I miss May! She did such a good job on my gamey feet. If anyone knows where she went, please let me know. The last time I was at Pinkies they were running one (golden) manicurist ragged painting designs on some customers, while the other manicurists were standing around waiting for customers. And yes, there were customers waiting! Of course this is the woman they scheduled for my pedicure. The old system where the manicurists would sign in and get customers based on the order of arrival didn't work for Pinkies. (I was usually early enough to get May or Queen.) I would be soaking, while the golden manicurist painted a design on someone then she would return and do something else for me, then off again for another design. When I finally got out of there over an hour later, the golden manicurist had a woman waiting over 20 minutes for nails.

I'm sorry. This place sucks! I can't believe that they have other locations. The only way it makes sense at all is that this location is managed by someone's relative

This use to be my favorite place when it was Mani Pedi . It would usually be an hour of great relaxation for a manicure and pedicure. Now it is pinkies and they rushed my manicure and pedicure , it took a total of 25 minutes. wow !!!Quality  gone. The lady doing my nails even appologied for the rush. She explained this is how the new owners want it. Now I have to look for a new place. Also it was not as clean as it use to be. There was dust and grim under the spa chairs, gross!!!

Used to be Mani Pedi - I was a client for 3 years  - every two weeks like clock work.  The staff are still super nice and the ambiance is great - but the quality has gone DOWN since the change to PINKIES

I have given them 3 chances since the change and will not be back.

The pedicures are SO bad - they do not get your feet smooth now (used to be the best pedi in town) - it is so bad that my feet cracked and bled from the excess dry skin they did not remove (I am a runner - they need a real scrubbing).

Also I developed a nail fungus after my last visit - I have never had that at Mani Pedi - obviously PINKIES does not do as good of a job cleaning their equipment - GROSS.

I have a free pedi left to my credit from the mess up before but the fungus and cracking and bleeding is so bad I will not go back to use a freebie - I don't want another fungus.

On another note they raised their prices since the change - so the price went up and the quality went WAY down - I went from a regular customer to a "never again to set foot in that place" client in just a few weeks - my advice is find another salon in the city that keeps their equipment CLEAN (who wants a fungus!?!?) and charges less - not hard to come by in SF.

It's really too bad that Kelly sold to PINKIES - they have ruined what WAS a great neighborhood salon.

I've been going to this place near me for years. Nothing has really changed except the old owner would yell at the manicurists and rush girls through.

I took an old Mani Pedi certificate I found and the receptionist took it! The staff is nice and I'm all about sanitation. Some of these bitchy comments about Pinkies are really out of whack. I don't mean anything rude but why would you go to some place where they don't clean with chemicals. And you know what I'm talking about! Mani Pedi Pinkie's is the only place I trust.

I had hoped to continue going to Pinkies as I was an appreciative client of Mani Pedi, but something has definitely changed for the worse. I have given them more than a fair shake since the transition (3 visits since it became Pinkies) , but on all 3 occasions there were serious scheduling problems. On the last visit, my friend and I waited 15 minutes to get in for our pre-scheduled appointment, only to be kicked out early for another client! On another occasion I asked if I could add a 5 minute massage to my pedicure and was told my the receptionist that there was no time to fit it in. But then my friend and I sat there in the chairs for another 15 mins. after our appointmentment, clealry no one was coming in  and I easily could have had my massage in that time.
The actual manicurists are not at fault; the problems here seem to be from unprofessional scheduling and a general lack of concern for customer service from behind the desk. I am sorry to leave the place as the location was perfect for me, but I am going to move on. Manicures and pedicures are an expensive treat , and if I am going to receive such erratic scheduling and service, I'd rather not go at all.
I hope they get it together, and maybe they will but as of 7/ 07 they need to work on their service.
