Pinkberry has gone downhill over the past year. When it first opened up I was so addicted to it. I swear they put some crack in their yogurt. But ya...recently the yogurt is just meh. A lil stingy with the toppings. I rather go to yogurtland or some other self serve place.
The "fresh" lychee resembled infected eyeballs that could've used a bottle of Visine. Ew.
The mochi was yummy but half of the scoop the guy put in my yogurt fell out and he didn't give me another scoop. Ew.
Standard pinkberry. I like the location because it's close to my pad plus I can visit the crepe nazi at Crepe-to-Go or get a Beard Papa cream puff afterwards.

We saw none other than ROGER FAN (of Better Luck Tomorrow, Finishing the Game, and Ping Pong Playa, along with Annapolis) getting yogurt yesterday here. *swoon* Yes, he looks exactly like he does on screen, ladies. Very tall. No one bothered him, and he was with a group of friends (also Asian). Seemed very normal.

Okay, everyone gets it. You either really like Pinkberry, or you really hate it. Me...I have to be in the mood for it. If I had my choice between Pinkberry and some other fro yo joint, like Golden Spoon, I'm all for the latter. I have to be in the mood for tartiness.
What's cool about this particular Pinkberry, is that everytime I'm there, there seems to be no line! I love it! They're pretty speedy, too. Other Pinkberry locations, i.e. Century City, Rowland Heights, Pasadena, Larchmont, there's always a gigantic line. Here...I go right to the front. Yessss!!!
My regular: small coffee flavored w/Cap'n Crunch. (When you order, you have to say 'Cap'n', not 'Captain.' Otherwise, you're saying it incorrectly.)

As you can see, pinkberry is different than most American frozen yogurt places. The variety of toppings are catered to a more delicate palate. You have lots of fresh fruit (no gross strawberry brain jelly like at Golden Spoon), and the toppings are miniature pieces of food you would find in your fridge if you were living in a culturally Asian household. Lychees, mangoes, mochi, fresh pineapple... oh, and you can put rice crispies or cocoa crispies on your yogurt as well.
There isn't much seating inside, and the seating that is available looks like supersized kiddie furniture. The set up of the place is kinda uncomfortable and futuristic in an almost pornographic way. Kinda like if Barbarella and a Fembot decided to join forces and tap the frozen yogurt industry. No pun intended.
I like the yogurt here because it tastes like the home-made yogurt I grew up with, and the yogurt that I consequently make now. What I call Vietnamese yogurt has been sold in Vietnamese businesses for decades, (but what can I say? The Chinese know when they've found a good idea, and they know how to pounce on it). It has a tangy taste (the way yogurt SHOULD taste - not like melting ice cream!), and I can tell it is made from condensed milk base. Condensed milk is great. Use is whenever you can, people.
If you want a tip: I think that bananas would go really well with this yogurt because the sweet/tangy combo would be delicious. Too bad they don't offer just a drizzle of chocolate sauce because that would go with the tartness too - think: what would go well with the taste of a tart berry?

Fro-yo is one of the many fads in SoCal right now. I had heard about it and how popular it was with all the different toppings you can add to your yogurt from oreo cookie crumbs to fresh fruit, Captain Crunch or even mochi. Of course I had to wait in a long line that stretched out the door on a warm and sunny day before I was able to order. Now that I have tried it I don't think I'll ever need to go back there again. The yogurt is very tart which totally threw me off especially since I topped off my yogurt with oreo cookies crumbs and strawberries which did not make for a good combination. I was looking forward to having something sweet, not something that would make my mouth pucker. If you like very tart and semi-sour yogurt then this is your place.

wow.. i'm giving in..
it's FREAKING hot today.. i mean.. i was melting in my car.. and I pulled into the olympic collection plaza.. and i ran into UPS to drop of my parcel..
then as i opened the door from the air conditioned store into the heat wave.. i see.. the sign.. PINKBERRY... usually i don't even think twice about going in..
but it was 11:45 am.. NO LINE.. sweltering hot.. i even had to lean in to see if they were opening..
Didn't even have time to think and juggle toppings/sizes/nor flavor.. stepped up ordered.. "small with strawberry and mochi"
paid.. turned around and he was already putting toppings on my swirl..
that makes good service.. he asked if i wanted to take it to go.. yes.. i had to get back to work.. but holding the covered cup in my hand and seeing the heat rising up from the cement outside.. i grabbed a table and opened up the cap to my cold treat.
a mom and her child were enjoying an ice slush and the kid was going over the different fruits and colors.. what a great learning tool.
on the end there was another guy waiting for someone or monitoring the streets for something.. but i just sat and enjoyed my cold.. a bit powdery tasting treat.. it was nice that i was quiet.. the temp inside wasn't cold.. but wasn't too hot to melt the froyo.. so i felt room temperature and the frozen yogurt went down cold..
the strawberries were cut too small but went really well in flavor with the yogurt.
the mochi wasn't too hard this time around.. and well it just all was the most perfect environment and taste combination..
i was sad to see my moment of happiness only lasted a few minutes.. but it was a great few minutes that i am considering going back later today.

Ok, I am not a lover of Pinkberry. I just had to stop over here to make-up with my friend. She tried Pinkberry only once and I wanted to surprise her after lunch. I also wanted to surprise my boyfriend waiting at home. They both deserved it.
What I like about this Pinkberry is that it's fast, enjoyable, and has so many fresh variety of toppings (except for the strawberries). The guy who helped me build my yogurt was courteous and gave me two originals with three fruit toppings pretty quickly. The only downside was that my friends complained it didn't taste the same after they re-froze for half an hour to save it after lunch. I could of told them that. "p
One more thing I wanted to mention before you visit this particular location is that you should mind the parking structure attendees only give you 15 minute to parking. Why!? Well, I rushed up and down the stairs and got everything done well under ten minutes. I drove out and showed my parking ticket. This elderly gentleman asked me to pay up the $2.00 validation fee.
Parking Guy: It's two dollars.
Me: Wait a minute. What!? I think I've been here less than fifteen minutes.
Parking Guy: Where do you see a sign that there is FREE parking!? (with a tone in his voice)
Me: I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't paying attention to the time. (thinking: Shieet man, I could go right down the street to Red Mango to avoid this kinda rude treatment. *forks over the $2*)

Pinkberry is just ok for me. I really don't see what the big buzz is about with this place. Decor is the best thing about this place. It has very cool pebble flooring and modern furniture. The yogurt is ok, but not the best in LA. The yogurt comes in three different flavors, plain, green tea, and the new coffe. The toppings are good (love the mochi) but a little bit lacking. Overall it isn't worth the hype.
Pinkberry is very good! But only have 2...well now 3 flavors. On top of that it's not self-serve. Though they were one of OG's of froyo places, I still believe, their plain tart froyo is still the best, and their mochi toppings is the most freshest as well as their fruit toppings.
I eat at other yogurt places were they have mochi, but it's not the same like Pinkberry's. So Pinkberry is the only froyo place where I ask for mochi toppings.
Their coffee flavored yogurt has an aquired taste. I didn't like it at all. However the Pinkberry worker at the J-Town Pinkberry suggested to try it with rasberries, where he then gave me a sample to try, and well, it's not bad at all! But I don't think I'm going to eat it anyways, hehe.
4 stars for their fresh toppings!
Frozen yogurt at a premium price, more expensive than competitors but with less options. The pricing of the stupid toys inside are ridiculous. $50 for a toilet plunger and $35 for a wine cork opener and $30 for a dog food bowl. Ugh.. f-word you pinkberry, you brand name P.O.S. I also hate the inconvenient underground parking.

I don't know how it happenned. I didn't want to like it. Heck, I didn't like it! At first. But then I found it. No, not a lover who will buy me pretty things and kiss the ground my long legs walk on, but the perfect Pinkberry combination.
What is this magical key that unleashes the bestial tendency to crave more and more of the tart, slighty icy Pinkberry yogurt that has spawned a fro-yo revolution? A revolution the likes of which the world has not seen since the days of slap bracelets and hair scrunchies and the Princess Bride?
A plain medium yogurt with strawberries, blueberries and mochi. ($4.95)
Don't try to mix the oreos with the yogurt -- tart and chocolate just do not jive in berryland.
Don't try to "be good" and order a small. Not only is it completely nonsensical for those dineros in your wallet, but the consistency of the yogurt tends toward rapid meltage, and the medium size sustains the frozen texture longer than the small. Plus, we live in America: Bigger is better.
And DON'T try to resist it. It will get you. And your little dog too.

I guess kind of like Pocky, but colder and costs 3 times more.
I am not sold on it, personally. Fro Yo yes, Pinkberry, not really.
This was my second attempt at Pinkberry, mainly as a convenience while walking by this place. I had the coffee flavored before, and it tasted like cough syrup sewage.
So this time, I tried the Green Tea, for $4.50. bleh. Jamba Juice has a better tasting Green Tea drink.

I hate it when people complain that Pinkberry isn't frozen yogurt. Oh shut up, people. No, its not your regular frozen yogurt that tastes like soft serve ice cream, it actually tastes like yogurt that is frozen. It has that tart bitter taste like regular yogurt and I love it for that. Its different! Its also really refreshing. I love coming here on warm days and getting a medium green tea with three toppings - my favorites are blueberries, strawberries, yogurt chips, coconut and their granola is amazing! I also like this location a lot cause the line is never too bad and you can always find a table inside or outside. The parking situation is a little sucky, if you can't find anything in the outside lot you have to go into the garage and get a ticket and validation (annoying when you're just stepping out for some quick froyo).

I came here after eating at Kiriko. I dont know what inspired me to go inside... well actually I do... a sense of self preservation when my girlfriend has her heart set on something. Many of the reviews and personal testimony I have heard describes the yogurt at Pinkberry as "different" in some way. Finally after tasting it the mystery is solved. It tastes a lot like Yang-le-duo or Yakult.
Not being a fan of frozen yogurt I thought it was alright but nothing special. My girlfriend on the other hand loved it and has since been back many a time (I have weighted my score to factor in her appreciation and my lassitude)

This place is definitely not the same place it used to be a couple of years ago when it first opened. It is what it is. I still think they have a good variety of fresh fruit. My staple:
Medium with raspberries, mango, and blackberries for $4.95. Simple.
If you live in LA, you know what Pinkberry is and you have an opinion so I will just say this:
I like Pinkberry the way some people like heroine.

Don't hate Pinkberry because of its popularity! The world would be a better place with Pinkberry at every corner. Have you heard of the Pinkberry/Starbucks merger? Haha... only in my dreams!
Plus:
1) Trendy and modern design
2) Great selection of toppings (fruits, nuts, coconut shavings, cereal... mochi, etc.)
3) They will pack a large to-go order with ice bags to keep it from melting.
Minus:
1) Not enough seats
Ok I have to admit I am a Pinkberry addict...
I was introduced to this by my friend who started going to the one near West Hollywood when it first opened and loved it! After a while of not going, I noticed they were popping up everywhere! When they opened one down the street from my place in LA, it was all over.
I love the original AND the green tea flavor but to be safe for some reason I always get the original flavor. Although I am a huge coffee fan, the new coffee flavor did not appeal to be whatsoever.
My normal pinkberry order: Original with strawberries, mango and blackberries
On occasion I'll venture from the norm and trade out one of the regulars for granola or raspberries.
Wow just talking about the tangy sweet yummy pinkberry makes my mouthwater...i want pinkberry now!!!
I know that there are a lot of Pinkberry fans out there so I'm sorry that I had to give this review. I hope this the right address for the Pinkberry near Pink's Hot Dogs....I tried the Melrose address but the link didn't come up. Anyhoo...
This is my first 2 star review. I would like to preface this by saying that I LOVE Harmony frozen yogurt in San Carlos in the Bay Area. It's natural, it's a bit tart, it tastes like yogurt and it's DELICIOUS.
We were on our way to Pink's when we passed by the back of Pinkberry and we knew that we had to pass by after hot dogs.
I tried a sample of the plain flavor and almost gagged. To me, it did NOT taste like yogurt - where was the yogurt?!! Where was the milk? Did I miss something? I had this aftertaste in my mouth that I couldn't get rid of fast enough. The toppings looked yummy but it can't hide the fact that Pinkberry frozen yogurt just wasn't....frozen yogurt. *shudder*

if you go to the website, they have a catchy cute song too. =p
they lost the lawsuit against them...the one where they claimed that pinkberry is healthy. the courts confirmed that there were no healthful effects to the powder used.
another lawsuit was filed by red mango cuz pinkberry stole their business model..
they charge sooo much per topping. how much does it cost them? almost nothing when you buy wholesale and cut up a strawberry into small slices.
red mango definitely tastes better.
but you should go to yogurtland!!! =D

Sorry... I'm going to have to be the "Debbie Downer" of this review thread. I think Pinkberry is overrated, gross and sour. The yogurt is bitter to me. I don't understand why people go crazy over this stuff. I almost feel like they're all just going with the trend because people wait in line forever to get the oh-so-yummy pinkberry yogurt and think it is cool. Yeah ok.. whatever! I can get better yogurt at the supermarket.
In my opinion... I believe the yogurt sucks and that the only real reason why this business has done so well and has expanded is because of the catchy name, colorful logo, and nice decorating. I have to admit the colors and design of the place is nice. It makes you want to be in there and have a good time. But if you are seriously rating the yogurt itself.... its whack!

Original flavor with double rice cakes and strawberries please =)
They are quick with your order and they always try to hook it up on the toppings when they can. I love the balanced flavor of the original yogurt and how soft the rice cakes are. YUMMMMM
Parking is tough to find in this small plaza but there's a lot on the other side of the block.
This soooooo would have been a one star review, but I'm a pretty fair person. I despise the taste of yogurt. When it hits my tongue, it tastes like rotten milk, and I seriously gag at the smell of it. For some reason, I've been able to handle frozen yogurt in the past, to a certain extent, mainly because it tries so desperately to be ice cream.
The Pinkberry revolution seemed unavoidable. Everyone seems to love it so much... I figured, you gotta give it a shot. I got a small, with bananas and strawberries, though I debated going for the Cap'n Crunch. My friend ordered a medium with strawberries, bananas and kiwi.
The cost... absolutely ridiculous. People have to know they aren't paying for the yogurt/toppings, but for the experience of eating at I-Yogurt, a yogurt shop fashioned after an Ipod.
There was nowhere to sit and it was rainy out, so we went to my car and removed the lids. Oh... the build up. Would Pinkberry live up to all the hype. I let my friend take the first bite. His face exploded in wonderment. "OH MY GOD THIS IS F-ING AWESOME! DAMN YOU PINKBERRY!" He was sold. I could see future paychecks being deposited directly into the PB Credit Union savings account.
Now I was really excited. I took a small spoonful, put it in my mouth... and had to fight back the puking. It tasted like the most sour, rotten milk ever created, that someone had decided to freeze, for fun. I put the lid back on, handed it to my friend, said "Enjoy" and knocked back half a cup of Dr. Pepper to get that horrifying taste out of my mouth.
So, three stars. My friend loved it, so it must be good. But if you aren't a huge fan of yogurt, stay away, because this isn't frozen yogurt trying to be ice cream. This is the kind of yogurt you would find marching in a yogurt-pride parade, flying a white and pink flag on a float made of yogurty goodness.
Enjoy!

It's hard to believe the buzz that's been created around Pinkberry. In my short weekend trip to LA I ended up going there twice and passed at least half a dozen knock offs trying to emulate their name, formula, and decor, w/ names ranging from sweet berry, very berry, yogu berry and on and on. Sooo freakin hilarious, stop the madness!!
It's incredible that a menu so simple can be such a hit. In my first tasting I had the regular yogurt w/ cookies & cream and chocolate chips. It was good, but I felt like those toppings were much better suited for a creamier ice cream or yogurt base. The next day I had a tasting w/ mango and mochi, which turned out to be quite good. I had a sample of the green tea which was pretty mediocre, and the coffee was just disgusting... I felt like spitting it out.
While I do enjoy the fact that's it's healthy and very light, it's hard to say whether the yogurt can actually stand up by itself w/o the toppings. I definitely tend to prefer a creamier base whether it be frozen yogurt, ice cream, or gelato. The stores are pretty hip, fun and open late which is a big plus. I also really enjoyed the trinkets for sale, they were cute as hell albeit ridiculously expensive.
Overall I had a pretty average experience through all the hype. Perhaps the most retarded thing about this place has to be the security guard who doesn't let you take photos inside. WTF is that all about!??? Is it really necessary to have a security guard around??? If they had a vault and handed out money on a regular basis I cound understand, but for a yogurt shop it's unbelievable. Watch out, someone might run off w/ the fruit toppings! The lack of photo taking left me completely dumbfounded, are they afraid someone might steal their design?? Oh wait, too late, cuz there are already a dozen imitators. Maybe it's time to try some of the competitors and see how they fare.
I had my Pinkberry cherry popped here last week.
Over the past few months I had overheard random murmurings about some quiet fro-yo revolution taking place in California. The name of this revolution? Pink-Berry-Coup. You see, for the longest time, the gold standard in frozen-yogurt norms was to create goopy, sweet, and generally disgusting soft serve and frozen yogurt that made your stomach turn after eating it. The old school toppings idea also gained popularity. Oreos, nuts, candy bits, fruit soaked in corn syrup, you name it. Except most frozen yogurt places use stale and/processed crap. Gross.
Enter Pinkberry. It's an unseemly little place with tiny clear plastic furniture, minimalist/sterile Asian decor, and a futuristic backlit shelving display featuring all manner of kooky kitchen stuff that you never saw coming. They snuck in behind enemy lines with a simple concept. Frozen yogurt should -taste- like yogurt. They don't have 31 flavors, heck, they don't even have 5. Just two. Green tea, and "Original", which is essentially plain yogurt. Before you turn your nose up at the thought of two very uninteresting flavors, hear me out.
It's THE TOPPINGS that really make Pinkberry stand out. Yes, the true taste of yogurt is nice...tangy and fresh, but if that were served alone, I guarantee nobody would be clamoring at the door lusting after a portion. The toppings offered are classics. Favorite childhood sugar cereal toppings such as fruit and cocoa pebbles, and cap'n crunch grace the list. Paired up with that are fresh fruit offerings. That's right. Fresh. Not canned. Not stored in a vat of sugar water or corn syrup. These fruit and cereal combinations lend a tremendous amount of flavor and texture to the yogurt experience.
Personally I'm not a big fan of the green tea flavor, but Original does just dandy.
INSIDER TIP: If you ate CrunchBerries as a kid, I highly recommend mixing Cap'n Crunch and Fresh Strawberry toppings. Absolutely divine. Just watch out for the roof of your mouth.
I deducted a star because every time I eat here, it never fails, my mouth goes kind of numb from the tangy shock of the cold and flavors for a good half hour. Also, be forewarned...the music can be REALLY LOUD.

Why the hate?
It's tart and sweet frozen yogurt that you can put toppings on, including MOCHI!
The original is really good but the green tea can be even better!
If you're in Cambridge, MA in Hahvarhd Square, be sure to check out Berryline. A fellow Yelper that graduated from UCLA owns and runs the place and they have tons of specialty fruit flavors. The only minus is the lack of MOCHI topping! Matt W., I hope you're listening!
O my gooooodness... WHY! Pinkberry is such a fad. People are going to wake up from this nonsense and wonder why their paying $5-$10 for something so easy to make, you can make with your foot with your hands tied behind your back and eyes blindfolded while practicing ballerina steps. Pinkberry = awesome. This is the closest one to me. The parking is kind of annoying, but usually I'm just the asshole that doubleparks haha.
Things of note - you can get a swirl of the regular and green tea flavors. I just found this out. It's great.
You know I really enjoyed their frozen yogurt. As a kid I used to drink Yakult (if you lived or been to asia you'll know what I am talking about) which Pink Berry tasted uncannily simliar too. I went with a German friend a few weeks ago and she was swearing that it was similar to stuff she had when she was young. Anyway, irregardless of what the secret ingredients are the yogurt with combinations of fruit or other toppings is incredibly refreshing compared to standard ice cream. I certainly think, given how cheap it is, you should give it a try.
You already know everything about it. I admit, it's good stuff. I'm just pissed that I wasn't the one to steal..I mean.. come up with the idea. Damn it!
Pinkberry - 2 Stars
This recipe - 4 Stars (It's still frozen yogurt people.)
Okay kids, I'm about to blow your minds. Know someone who's addicted to Pinkberry? Want to kick your $5 a day habit? Well, here's an approximate recipe....
Shopping list:
1 32 oz tub of plain yogurt (The less fat you get, the closer to ice you'll be making. I like the organic stuff from Straus Dairy or Brown Cow. I get the full fat stuff because the taste and texture is better.)
3/4 cup sugar
1Tb vanilla extract (Always get the good stuff. Make sure it says real on the label)
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until completely chilled.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions on your ice cream maker and make yourself some Fauxberry.
Voila! Fauxberry in 2 hours. And it makes a big tub of it that will last you at least a few days or more. If you're worried about the fat content, well, maybe you should be thinking about the totally recognizable ingredient list and the taste content. Or just eat less.
Oh yeah, forgot to add that you should put it in the freezer right away to let it firm up for an hour or so. Otherwise you'll be sipping Fauxberry not scooping it.
