This place is awesome!  Breakfast anytime of the day.  I go there allot, plenty of old timers and Veterans hangout for coffee.  Anyway, for the waitress watchers out there, they do have a couple of Hotties on the staff...

Everything I order is always hot, and good!  Go there sometime for a bit of the past and some of the present...

Strikeforce

When you want to enjoy some family time and get away from the grease mess that is a chain restaurant like IHOP or Denny's then Pine Cone Cafe is the place to go. I grew up eating the food here so perhaps that is why I've become more picky when eating "diner" foods.

My favorite is the strawberry waffles. Unlike many establishments, the strawberries are warm, the waffle crispy, and it's overflowing with whipped cream!

The other basic food items are tasty, too... such as home fries and sausage. I've never dined here for dinner, only for brunch/breakfast. Highly recommended to those wanted support local business and eat some yummy food.

Um, I'm sorry Pine Cone Cafe.  I am your biggest supporter under the age of 85 and I have never reviewed you.  I was waiting until I came back and tried you again - I just had to make sure.

PCC, you're the best.  I don't really know what else to say to you other than - you make breakfast time the best time of any day.  Not only do you ALWAYS have a place to sit, even on a busy Sunday morning, but you always greet me with some kid who wants to get me a drink.  There is nothing better than prompt attentive service.  The waitress is always close behind and ready to take my order.

I always ALWAYS ALWAY order the Monte Cristo.  You make it perfectly.  It is huge and full of meat and cheese and totally fills me up until a late dinner.  I can always chose between breakfast potatoes of some sort or fries if I don't get up before noon.  You never judge me.  If I ever felt like being hypocritical I could even order healthy fresh fruit to compliment my heart attack on a bun.  You don't care.

Finally, you let me pay up front and you take plastic.  My bill is always sitting on the table ready to go way before I am and when I can't stomach any more, I never have to wait for anyone.  Thank you for making things as painless as possible.

PCC, why can't you be in Phoenix?  I might not even need Matt's anymore if I had you.  You're the perfect breakfast joint and I miss you when I am 1500 miles away.  Please don't ever leave.  You're the only redeeming thing about University Place.

This is one of the Husband's favorite places, because of the Monte Cristo, so of course no visit to Washington is complete without a meal here.  We came by around noon, shortly after I had woken up and we were starving!  I had been here before, so I knew I was in for a comforting diner style breakfast.  I checked out the menu for a minute and decided on French Waffles.  I had no idea what they were but I ordered them anyway since watching both season of Dead Like Me had got me craving waffles.

What came out to the table surprised me.  There were certainly waffles on my plate, but they were french toasted!  Now I get it!  They were also covered in cinnamon sugar and they looked good!  I slathered them with some butter and maple syrup and dug in.  They were very tasty and enjoyable.  It was fun trying something unexpected.  I am definitely going to try my hand at these at home one day.

I would love to give this place 5 stars but the typical clientele is not really my favorite.  Old people...  This last time, there was an old man vomiting (quietly at least) into his coffee cup and I had an unobstructed view of him.  Call me insensitive or whatever you want, but I really didn't need to see that while eating a very good breakfast.

Great Place!

I'm a tough critic... coming from Las Vegas!

This place takes your memories back...  ok, I'm 28 so maybe not mine but many old-timers. I had the french waffles (waffles cooked french toast style) which came with eggs and your choice of sausage/bacon. The 2 waffles were HUGE!! Pretty tasty and very home style tasting .. if you know what I mean. My significant other got the monte cristo  - he said it was missing the powdered sugar (which is really important) but overall it was good. The coffee was pretty weak, not what I could call up to "Seattle Standards" so I don't think I'd order it again. The waitresses/service was good and our food arrived quick and piping hot. Overall this place gives you a filling meal that doesn't break the bank.... we plan on coming back again for round #2..

Stopped here for breakfast this morning on the suggestion of neighbor. Glad I did. I had the strawberry waffles which were, in my opinion, too large, HAHA! Tasty indeed but I couldn't finish it all. The service was quick and friendly. A lot of locals it seemed. Wouldn't mind coming back again to try other menu items.

My mom and my grandma are regulars here.  Such regulars that when I came in with my grandma alone once, without my mom, the waitresses got all up in our business, "And WHO, may I ask, is THIS?" they asked my grandma, as if they feared some random 37 year old woman had kidnapped my grandma and George (her walker) and forced them to go to the Pine Cone.  It was actually pretty sweet.

But, because my family members are regulars here, I've experienced this place a lot (yes - I also wondered why the waitresses were so up in arms when I brought Grandma in - I've been there before!).

Here's what I love:  the reliably yummy cheeseburger and fries; the cup of chili with cheese and onions; the cream of broccoli soup (which of course I wouldn't order anywhere else); the to-die-for chocolate cream pie; the fact that all the waitresses seem to remember my grandma's favorite order; watching the 60 year old children eating with their 80 year old parents; the fact that I am often the youngest customer in the place; the way the young bus boy tried to joke with my grandma about her plaid Keds and the way he generously ignored the fact she misheard him.

I also love the sign outside, which often reads something like "Welcome to the Pine Cone: Cafe of the 2009 World Cup," or "2008: The Year of the Cone."  And the fact that it's super crowded between 3 and 5:30 PM, and emptier from 5:30 PM to closing.

Not so much love:  the salad bar looks a little frightening; it features uber-creamy pasta and pea salads.  I am sure some people go for that sort of thing, but it creeps me out a little bit.

Hey, we also called in an order once when my Grandma wasn't up to going out, and I picked it up for us.  Everything was just as tasty to-go as it was in the restaurant, which isn't always the case with "non take out" type food.

My boyfriend and I have been here a couple times now. It's half restaurant, half diner. Nice place. You seat yourself, all of the waitstaff is very friendly. Gotta love the restaurant where they don't automatically top off your perfectly blended coffee. I can't stand having the perfect mixture of creamer, sugar, coffee and then halfway thru, a waitress filling it up without asking.

I had corn beef hash the first time. Very good.. I had a ham, cheese, mushroom omelette the 2nd time and that was very good too. It's definetly better than Denny's or Shari's and I'm sure we'll go back.
