Huntington Beach, CA
Great experience... Had the entire Inn to ourselves and they upgraded our room. Very quaint and nice rooms recently remodeled, nice fireplace. View of the ocean. The Foghorn was a little off putting but that goes for all hotels in the area so nothing to complain about.
Overall great stay. -

We've been staying a various bed and breakfasts in half moon bay area for over 20 years and the pillar point inn has always been on the top of our list. This last stay it was obviously the end of an era for us. In chronological order:
The parking lot was empty
Front Door was locked
No one inside
Thankfully I noticed a sign on the bulletin next to the door saying to go next door to the new hotel and checkin
They told us the keys they were giving us would expire at midnight and we needed to stop back then to get new keys
We get to the room and light the gas fireplace by turning the gas valve and using the provided matches - I can dig it... Very old school! It sure is cold.. But hopefully this fireplace kicks in. We notice a base board wall heater with a knob on the front but it looks broken and there are wires hangin out of it onto the floor.
There's no bathtub here.
The shower door was broken and won't close all the way and there's black mold on the tile.
Old crusty bread was left in the fridge - gross!
The wireless internet signal doesn't work. Its gets an ip address and DNS from DHCP but won't connect to anything.
We go to use the phone but it's dead. Turn it over and notice the wall cord is in the wrong plug so it's an easy fix. Dial 0 to get the front lobby. Nope. That number is not available. So reading the phone I see you have to dial 9 then the 7 digit outside number. Weird. They don't have any other rooms available with a king but we could switch to a queen and see if that rooms better? No thanks, we'll see how this goes.
The bed's nice, let's watch a movie. That takes two remotes, one to turn on the tv and change the volume and the other to change channels. Although there are DVDs in the lobby available to borrow there is no DVD player in the room.
This used to be a bed and breakfast but there's not gonna be any food served here today. The place is pretty much abandoned. So sad... -

I really wish that I could give 4.5 stars here. It was very close to a perfect anniversary weekend with a romantic room and prime location. Melody was a gracious hostess and breakfast was hearty and delicious. This had all the hallmarkings of a great inn. Nice comfortable bed, great spacious corner room, ultra clean bathroom and Direct TV link. I read somewhere that it had been recently renovated and it shows. The only issue was that it got a bit noisy at night and this maybe due to the July 4th weekend activity. What drove me crazy was the fog horn that the edge of the harbour going off every ten seconds. It was at the periphery of my hearing but it still bothered me when attempting to sleep early. Maybe I'll knock it up to 5 stars after my next visit or someone else will rate it at 5 and it averages out to 4.5. Please?

It was a nice place to stay this past weekend since we were there for the Pumpkin Festival. The room was well decorated and conformable, the breakfast was excellent as well as the home made cookies. I do have the same complaints as a few of the others. The street noise and the bloody foghorn. Overall it was a 4 star experience and one I would do again.

This Inn was centrally located in Princeton-by-the-Sea but that location was the cause of the awful street noise all day and night. I like to have the windows open to feel the cool ocean air and hear the distant foghorn but the cars and drunken tourists were very loud. At a number of times during the evening a car with some form of super bass went by and set off car alarms because of the vibration. The rooms are nice, bed was very comfortable and Mel was a great host. Breakfast was delicious and the fresh baked cookies and fruit were a very nice touch. The rooms had mini refrigerators to store drinks and such. The bathrooms could definitely use some upgrading from the avocado green tubs. My advice..bring ear plugs.

Half Moon Bay, CA
Pillar Point Inn seemed so quaint from the outside. The rooms were terribly overpriced and they night we were there it was very warm and opening the windows was a horrible error! There is so much noise from the Brewery next door, traffic (Including actual transit buses), drunks going up and down the sidewalk and NO fan or any way to get air circulating except the windows. Food was nicely presented, however, not sure many people would appreciate refried beans on a breakfast plate! For the price and noise alone I would not go back. It's unfortunate they are located so close to the street.

We enjoyed our stay. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, especially compared to its neighbor, the Oceano. On the inside, though, the place was great. The room was very attractively and romantically decorated, comfortable and spacious, and the indoor gas fire made it cozy. It's within walking distance of several nice restaurants. The innkeeper was friendly, too. Downsides: although it views the ocean, it directly overlooks the marina--no lapping beaches, etc., just a bunch of boats bounded by rocks. Also, there's a horn that sounds off in the distance every few seconds all day and night--the noise is faint but enough to be bothersome if you're a light sleeper. Aside from those few slight issues, we were charmed by Pillar Point Inn and would easily recommend it. No breakfast menu--host made egg/tomato casserole (ok) with sausage and homemade banana bread (quite good). Also, the host offered fresh baked brownies which were very good.
