    Wendy is incredible....

I'm hoping to fly out to participate in the interactive training with Mary Bowen on Sept. 8th & 9th in Wendy's "Visiting Teacher Series
    with Pioneers of Movement"

Mary by herself is incredible and a "kick!'  Wendy is fabulous.  It's hard to imagine to be in the presence of this 'dynamic duo' ... it would be absolutely incredible! What a great combination!

I've just returned from Austin and had to jot down my thoughts about my time at the Pilates Center of Austin - and what comes most to mind is AWESOME!

Wendy is an incredibly intuitive and sensitive master Pilates instructor. Her teaching presence allows her students to deepen their inquiry of how their bodies are able to move, develop more awareness and appreciation of their bodies.

Mary Bowen, one of the last five remaining Pilates elders, was present this last weekend. Mary, in addition to being an elder and master Pilates instructor, is a practicing psychotherapist specializing in Jungian theory. She had us exploring our own psyches as to how we may be able to apply Pilates to ourselves as instructors and how we can help our clientele learn about their bodies through Pilates by understanding their personality type.

It was an insightful weekend - and I look forward to visiting Austin again to attend future workshops.

Good:  Small classes, personal attention, plentiful equipment and good pricing packages.

Meh, not so much:  You have to sign up for each class you attend (sometimes they are full so it's hard to keep on a regular schedule), mat-work room is too small and facility could use some serious Feng Shui.

    Inflexible Cancellation Policy; Nice Instructors

Overall instructors and owner are nice and class sizes small however the inflexible cancellation policy is an issue for me. They require 24 hours notice - not unreasonable in my book HOWEVER when i had an unexpected emergency and had to cancel my spot in a group class (that will go on with or without me) 17 hours in advance (yes i get it that 17 is not 24 and that 17 is actually 7 less than 24 and so on) but still get docked a pre-paid session then i have an issue. perhaps if it had been a private session and the instructor had driven all the way to the studio just for me and then i cancelled I'd understand. But in my case, when they are going to be there anyway, the class will go on without me, someone else would likely jump at the chance to take my spot, and i gave 17 HOURS NOTICE, I am a bit disappointed. Oh yeah, but they still have the right to switch instructors on me at the last minute with no notice.

Other studios i have been to are much more flexible and understand that sometimes life gets complicated and in the way.  In an ideal world perhaps we would know all of life's unexpected curve balls 24+ hours in advance but in reality, that's just not the case. Disappointed in this studio as I expected more from them...

I tried pilates years ago (in another state) and was left wondering what all the fuss was about. I decided to give it another try due to some injuries and am so glad I signed up at the Pilates Center of Austin. What a difference! The intro class (which I initially htought was going to be a waste of time) is great - Marcus spends a lot of time helping you with your form and explaining the significance of the exercises. I came to realize that the reason my first experience with pilates was so blah was because my form was all wrong so I wasn't getting the full benefits. My classes with Heather are terrific - she's always very upbeat and supportive. She spends a lot of time with each person, helping you to improve your form and derive maximum benefit. She also seems very knowledgeable - when asked questions, she responds with well thought out answers (I'm in medicine so I'm pretty good at telling when someone is BSing about anatomy or physiology).
My posture has improved significantly and my spine and hips are so much less painful. I'm pleased with my experience so far.

after years and years of literally zero working out, i turned to wendy and the staff at pilates center of austin and ohmygod did they not let me down.  wendy has the very particular ability to make you feel as though you're worth the world.  after a few years of working with her, i felt completely strong and empowered.
