I asked for a seat outside and was told it was going to be about 20 minutes, after walking around for a bit I came back only to see some people switch tables the one that opened up.

We decided to eat inside and it took a while to get our drinks, much too long to get our food, and finally when it got there only 2 of the 3 meals came out...no apology from the waiter, or it will just be a minute, nothing.

After two 5 minutes, and still nothing, I got up to go and talk to the manager who mentioned it was very busy due to a street fair that was going on.  He comped the delayed meal and apologized.

This is a good looking place, the food was decent and it was a shame this happened because I immediately liked the ambiance and decor.  The street fair was keeping them busy, so  I will go back and give it another shot.

I will say this about the Piggy Bank. It is usually filled with people, and I'm pretty sure if you like meat and potatoes it will please your palette. Having said that, I am a vegan and so there really wasn't much there for me to eat. I also wasn't very thrilled with whatever I ordered, in terms of seasoning.

On the plus side, their bartender Rob is crazy nice, and if you're just looking to sit at the bar and have a drink its a good place to go. There is outside sitting, which is also really nice. A lot of the places in Beacon are small and cramped, so the Piggy Bank really gets an A+ in terms of space. If I was a meat eater I would give this place 3 stars, but since I'm not, I will end my review with this: vegetarians and vegans eat a snack before dining here and if you are looking to chow down, you may want to see elsewhere.

I was really excited to check out The Piggy Bank a little while ago, but was unfortunately disappointed. Everything about this place is pretty good- except the food. The space looks great, the service was friendly and quick, the dining area was clean, and they often have live music- GOOD live music, even. But as for the eats....it just wasn't happening.

We ordered some wings as an app- they tasted bland. My entree of the 1/2 BBQ Chicken was incredibly dry- I asked for a side of BBQ sauce to slather on in hopes of moistening it up, but it didn't really work. Seems like it was cooked too long. The accompanying fries, however, were undercooked. The green beans were decent, but I didn't really come just for them. The pulled pork was also pretty tough, as if it had been left cooking a little too long, much like the BBQ Chicken. Also, it wasn't really shredded for a sandwich, but mostly left in large chunks and placed on a roll. Just a hard meal to eat, in general.

You know, I really wanted to like The Piggy Bank. I wanted to give them another chance, but a lot of the other less-than-stellar reviews (both on Yelp and word of mouth) are keeping me away. With my money situation being the way it is (meaning nonexistent), I just can't afford to keep going out and giving places second, third, fourth chances in hopes that my crummy experience was just a fluke.

Leaf peeping sure does work-up a powerful appetite!

    I'll be honest.
I was lured-in by a towering stack of smashed potatoes I saw steaming in the window; high up past the brick walls, to the tin ceilings.  (I love me some smashed potatoes.)

The friendly hostess seated us in the sunny window by main street, where we could watch the world scurry by.

We both ordered the North Carolina-Style pulled pork sandwich with a side of collard greens.  The greens were spectacular and not in the least bit bitter; bravo!  Although not exactly "North-Carolina-Style", the pork itself was tasty, tender and smokey.  The mustard sauce paired well with the Brooklyn IPA, which proved itself much stronger in the sunshine.

This space is gorgeous! A beautifully restored, historic bank building. The vault is now  wine storage behind the bar. The restaurant has huge picture windows, splashing down warm light on charmingly mismatched heavy wood furniture. All it needed to complete the ambiance of their chiaroscuro light is a contented orange tabby cat, napping on the floor. (And removal of all screaming spoiled hipster's babies, of which there were 3 caterwauling at any given point during our meal.)

I ordered the "North Carolina style" pulled pork and asked that they substitute the fries for an order of collard greens. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the collards were. They know to cook in vinegar to cut the bitterness, and they cook long enough for a wilt without turning the vegetation to mush.  Collards can be tricky, and I think more people would like them if their first experience with eating collards involved a cook who knows the tricks. So if you have a friend who's never eaten collards, by all means, bring 'em to Beacon and stop at Piggy Bank.

The "North Carolina Style" pulled pork sandwich was good and they got the color right. But just 'cause it's yellow does not make it NC Style. I'm a southerner. Yankees might not know the difference, but I do. It should be 800% more tangy and have a little spice to it. For NC Style, this is a disappointment. That said, for Yankee barbecue, it's respectable. I'd definitely eat it again, but I recommend a name change.

Service was sweet, but forgetful. No one offered water to my partner and they forgot to bring our cornbread.

We made the drive up to see the Dia, and managed to find this joint thanks despite my slow-ass iPhone. The spot itself is really nice. All old wood and antique banky and shit. The waitstaff could definitely use some training, because those junior high school girls need to learn how to work more than one table at a time.

We started with the cajun garlic shrimp. Worst mistake of the year. Voting for McCain is a better idea. The shrimp were so old & chewy, they had to be sent back.

Thankfully the ribs made up for the "shrimp." When the waitress brought them over, and I saw that beautiful hunk of perfectly carmelized meat, I wanted to whip out my camera and take pictures. But, I inhaled them instead.

I think there's still one rib left in the fridge if you want it...

After eating here, I know there's better barbecue somewhere else. It's just OK. It's not spectacular. I prefer their brisket, not their pulled pork sandwiches.

Since we live in Beacon, M. and I go here because it's close and we want meat and potatoes.

Want some good ribs and visiting Beacon, then Piggy Bank is your only choice. With their signature "Real B-B-Q" cooking style and great rubs I am sure you will love these ribs. Piggy Bank does it well with good service and really gives you the southern feel from the beginning by serving you corn bread to the end when your full of a rack of ribs. The atmosphere is great being located right in downtown Beacon giving you a city atmosphere and being an old bank, the vault being the wine collection is a nice added touch. Parking is plentiful with a private lot right next to the place.

The Sum Up: The Piggy Bank is a great place to have a nice family dinner with fair pricing and GREAT RIBS!

Yes, this is actually Southern style BBQ, and it's not bad, even by Southern standards.  Lots of people like BBQ, and it can be hard to find a place that is actually passable.  This one is.

I don't go here a whole lot, but I do love the decor in the establishment.  What a great name, too - Pork BBQ served in a historic bank in downtown Beacon.  Hence the name - Piggy Bank.

Inside you can tell it was once a bank - how?  Well, perhaps it's the large safe behind the bar that serves as the wine cellar for the restaurant.

The brick (I love brick) walls are nicely decorated and the place just has a very nice atmosphere.  The wait staff are all quite friendly.  I've never had a problem getting a table here without a reservation, but I've only come on weekdays, too.  I expect the place gets a little more crowded on weekends, so perhaps you ought to plan ahead and make a reservation.

The food - it's authentic (let's the gods of the south strike me down now), if not the best I have had.  Actually, quite tasty.  The sandwiches are good, as the ribs, in my opinion, excellent.  I did not particularly care for the corn bread, but that is probably just my personal taste.

All in all, you won't go wrong at the Piggy Bank.  If you are torn between restaurant genres, drive on down to Piggy Bank, and across the street is Brothers, a great Italian and pizza place, where you will also be quite pleased.

    Happy eating

Southern BBQ style cooking. Love their ribs.(ribs - must to try if you go there). NIce outside seating area  in the summer.  Place is located in a former BANK building and still has a huge seif (decorated) behind the bar.  Neat and nice decorations, cozy athmosphere.. We were going there only on weekdays and it was never uper busy. but despite this fact place is decent. Nice fast and friendly service.

The four of us started with an order of the wings done in a medium heat.  They were quite mild but had a very nice chargrilled taste.

Also, we had the grilled shrimp in the cajun marinade.  Very good!

The Pig Out Platter is a very generous portion of your choice of three meats along with two side dishes.  Unfortunately, they were out of brisket on Sunday afternoon.  I had the ribs, pulled pork and the bratwurst.  My sides were sweet potato fries and cole slaw.

The ribs were large, meaty and the best of the three meats.  They had a nice smoke ring and weren't drowned in bbq sauce!

The sweet potato fries were perfectly fried and had great flavor.

    We skipped dessert.

I've eaten here a number of times, but not in the past 3 years. So this review is dated.

I like the place. I like the staff. I want to like the food...and I do if I'm hungry or nostalgic enough.

As another reviewer said of this place, "for Yankee barbecue, it's respectable." I concur. They get the slow-cooking part right, which makes it edible (nothing worse than a tough rib). The flavor leaves something to be desired.

Pro: good staff, good comfort food.

Con: that may be corn cake, or something. that is not cornbread.

Decent BBQ in the hudson valley. I haven't had better in this area although that's just as much a statement on Hudson Valley BBQ as it is on the taste of Piggy Bank. There ribs and pulled pork are pretty decent. Service is above average and the ambiance (in an old bank...hence the name) is pretty cool.

Great space, friendly staff, affordable, tasty margaritas but the food.... the food was mediocre, borderline  bad.  We went for a Saturday lunch. My husband had the ribs and they appeared to be boiled (?). Not quite sure, but they were prepared with absolutely no care whatsoever and soggy. No crispy edges, no carmelization, no falling off the bone of any sort. Quite possibly the worst ribs I have sampled in quite some time.  I got the veggie burger and that was fine. It was a veggie burger.

This particular day they appear to have a fly problem and the main dining area looked like it wasn't clean from the night before. ie: my flip flops were sticking to most parts of floor.

I wanted to like this place since we are relocating to the area, but I was disappointed. I would try it again though, maybe it was an off day. sigh...

Decent barbecue...considering you're in the Hudson Valley.  Really cool space in an old bank, complete with a vault behind the bar.

Been here a few times, and it's pretty consistent.  The pulled pork sandwich is pretty good usually.  Last time it wasn't real hot, and i had to request sauce.  when it came, I got a little glass bowl of some random sauce.  why wouldn't a BBQ place put this out in a bottle?  My kids had the ribs, which were huge and pretty tasty.  A little tougher than I prefer, but passable.

Service is usually a little lean, but I'm sure business can be up and down.  They also have a kids' menu.

Ever since moving to Beacon back in April, I've wanted to try the Piggy Bank.  It's a very interesting looking restaurant, and the fact that it was converted from an actual bank made it that much more intriguing.  It's a clever(, if a bit obvious) name, and concept.  Finally, after checking out most of the local eateries at one point or another, my girlfriend and I took the "piggy plunge".  I'm a huge barbecue fan.  I had a really great experience at a Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse, NY, and I was really looking forward to what I hoped would be a similar experience here, at the very least.  Unfortunately, my bubble was burst pretty quickly.

We walked into a pretty crowded dining room, and were seated near the middle of the space.  The waiter appeared promptly, and took our drink orders.  He came back quickly, and asked to take our food orders, but my GF needed some more time to decide.  He then returned again no more than 60 seconds later.  She again said she wasn't quite ready.  She then decided shortly thereafter, and of course he was now nowhere to be seen.  Finally he showed back up, and she ordered the BBQ Chicken with Mashed Potatoes, and Corn On The Cob in lieu of the green beans that are supposed to come with it, while I chose the "Pig-Out Platter".  I really wanted to sample a few of their different offerings.  I went with the brisket, pulled pork, and ribs.

We were then brought a small plate with 2 modest squares of cornbread, and some butter.  It tasted good, and we ate them quickly.  The food arrived about 10 minutes later, and looked pretty good except her chicken had a big pile of green beans with no corn in sight.  When asked "does everything look good", she said "No, I asked for corn instead of the beans."  He said he'd "bring it right over".  Meanwhile, I dug into the platter.  Right away I appreciated that the meat wasn't swimming in a pool of BBQ sauce. There wasn't much sauce at all actually.  Initially, I was OK with that as I really wanted to taste the meat.

The brisket was soft, and piled nicely, yet somehow it was dry in my mouth, and really pretty flavorless.  What little flavor there was didn't seem "meaty", rather more like "chemically".  Onto the pulled pork.  Again, nothing special.  It was a decent looking clump of shredded meat with a light squirt of thin, carolina-style sauce.  It tasted bland, and also a little "off".  Right about now, I was starting to wish the food WAS doused in sauce.  Surely, the ribs would redeem the rest, and justify the $23 asking price of the dish, right?  Um, not quite.  I looked to the ribs to be the star of the meal, but they ended up being the worst offender.  They were tough, and actually crispy on the outisde, but soft, and sticky inside.  They didn't taste smoked, grilled, or charred at all.  In fact none of the meat did.  If I had to guess, I'd say the ribs were mostly cooked in a crock-pot, then finished in either an oven, or possibly deep-fried?!  My meal came with baked beans, and sweet potato fries.  The fries were pretty lame.  Too thin, with burned ends, and mushy middles.  The beans were actually the best thing on the plate, but they were still nothing special.

My GF found her 1/4 chicken to have good flavor, but there simply wasn't much of it.  It was a thigh & drumstick, and looked like it came off of a cornish game hen more than a conventional chicken dinner portion.  She also enjoyed the flavor of the scoop of mashed potatoes she received, but was again let down by the portion size.  Taking up the lion's share of the plate were the green beans which she didn't even order.  Alanis Morrisette says: "Hey guys, that's a little too ironic".  When she finally got her ear of corn, it was odd tasting at best.  Kind of freezer-burnt-ish.  I know that's not a word, but I think you get the gist. Granted, sweet corn is no longer in season, but I have a feeling it would've been a similar scenario in July too.

The final tally was about $50 for the 2 of us.  Ultimately, The Piggy Bank fell really short of what I hoped it would be, and of other BBQ experiences I have had...including fundraising BBQ's on the side of the road, if I'm being honest.  I usually like to go twice to everyplace, and I am curious about their fried chicken, but I really don't even feel like I want to waste my time.  Maybe someday, they'll step-up their game, and put as much effort into the food, as they did into the bar-area, and decor?

To be fair, I am something of a barbecue gourmand, and I take great pride in my own homemade rubs, sauces and slow smoked and grilled creations. Therefore, I can be an insufferable critic as well. My experience with the "barbecue" offerings at most restaurants is that they are mediocre at best. The Piggy Bank isn't mediocre, but I'm not rearranging my schedule for another visit.

At his insistance, my uncle and I met for lunch at the Piggy Bank. Because I am suspicious of most BBQ places, it wouldn't have been my first choice but I was curious. The place was deserted. Very nice decor inside, open and friendly, and the service was quick and pleasant.

We started with an order of wings, and this was the first time in a great while that I've actually had real, homemade, properly cooked buffalo wings. They were complete (wing and shoulder section) meaty and deep fried in the skins, as they should be. Not a lot of heat, but crispy and very tasty. Base hit.

We each ordered the brisket, pulled pork, and chicken combo platter. This comes with fries and two sides. I had ocra and baked beans, both of which were very good, and the french fries, which are hand cut with the skins, were excellent. Double. Bases loaded.

I specifically asked that my barbecue sauce be served on the side (Texas style), rather than drizzled and slathered all over my meat. I am not a big fan of barbecue sauce, knowing that truly great barbecue is in the preparation of the meat, not the sauce. I only use sauce in moderation. When my lunch arrived, I was VERY disappointed to see that my request was not carried out, and my lunch was covered in thick, sweet sauce. I proceeded to scrape most of it away. Strike one.

The pulled pork was very moist and tasty, and it was a nice solid knob of meat, rather than stringy shreds swimming in sauce that you will find at most places. Likewise, the brisket was moist and flavorful, and cut with a fork. The main disappointment was the chicken, which was inedible. It was dried out to the consistency of wood, and no amount of sauce could save it. Strike two.

Their aren't many BBQ restaurants around, and the Piggy Bank is okay but I'm not sure that I'll ever make it back.

In town visiting friends and checking out the Electric Windows event and we decided to have lunch here.  Was a bit worried about how many vegetarian options would be available at a southern BBQ place but there was no need to fret - lots of veggie options were on the menu.  I wanted something light, and the goat cheese salad I ordered hit the spot.  Big portion, extra walnuts, perfect all around.  Also on the table to share was fried okra, sweet potato fries and the Piggy Bank's version of hush puppies (corn bread with cinnamon, not really hush puppies at all but delicious to end the meal with).  Oh, and Ron English sat at the table next to us with his family - so it's good for celeb watching as well.. hahah..

Like other yelpers before me, I am left with a less then satisfied feeling after eating at Piggy Bank.  Lets start with the positive. I really liked the decor, I enjoyed the view of the old vault door and I liked the overall atmosphere.  The free corn bread was great, and my wife loved that a bbq place had more than one vegetarian option.
Now the bad, I ordered the 1/4 special which is a 1/4 chicken with 4 ribs.  The chicken was ok, nothing special and definetly not memorable.  The ribs were blah.  They weren't the worst ribs I've had but they lacked flavor. I really wanted to find a good bbq place but this was not it.  I'll be back to try again, but I'm not expecting much.

below is a copy of the email that i sent to the management 2 weeks ago, who apparently didn't think it would be a good idea to email me back an apology or any other type of response....
    __________________________________________________ _

    hello,

i am writing to let you know how dissatisfied i am with the piggy bank. i took my sister out for her birthday on sunday. the whole meal was nothing but problems, and i really wish i never had.

first, i was served wine in a filthy glass smeared with lipstick. second, we were served someone else's food, which was silently snapped up and actually delivered to the other people's table (serious health code violation). third, after waiting for over 45 minutes, the appetizer and my entree were plopped onto the table. my sister's food visibly sat on the counter for over 10 minutes, then was plopped onto a nearby table. when the people said that it wasn't what they ordered, the waiter went storming to the back, and i had to get up to tell him to please finally give it to us (another health code violation, but we couldn't wait any longer). obviously, it was cold. we packaged everything to go, as we did not even have time left to eat, let alone celebrate my sister's birthday. we would have gotten desserts and drinks, but sitting there for another hour just to order them was out of the question.

no one apologized or even seemed mildly interested in anybody's satisfaction. i was charged an extra $3 for corn that i was told i could order instead of collard greens. when i got home and bit into the corn it tasted sour and off, and i just threw it out. i am extremely disappointed that i spent $40 on this fiasco, and regret even more having left a pitiful $5 tip for the waiter, who didn't deserve one cent of it.

besides the rotten corn, we did enjoy the food (after reheating my sister's meal at home). its too bad that actually dining in your restaurant is such a terrible experience.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Three friends and I went here for lunch and it was awful. The fries were greasy and seemed old. The fish was clearly frozen. The meatloaf was like rubber, dry, and lukewarm. The ribs were fatty. The fried chicken was tasteless and incredibly overdone ("chicken dust" misted into the air as my friend sawed into it, no joke). WORST OF ALL was our waiter, Jamie. He was IMPOSSIBLY RUDE. He literally glared at us every time he was at the table, challenged my girlfriend when she said that her meatloaf tasted "old and dry" and then tossed the book with her check onto the table in front of her when we were checking out. When I asked for a manager, he said that HE was in charge. On top of all this: even if the food had been good, it was still overpriced. Tip to the owners: stop selling frozen food and fire your chef and stop hiring staff that your customers want to strangle. This is the first time in my life that I've actually yelled at a waiter; I find it difficult to verbalize how truly despicable he was.
