Baltimore isn't the best city in the world, nor in the country, in the east coast, heck matter of fact, not the best city in the state of Maryland. Yet somehow people continuously flock to the city, go figure! Take it from someone who worked across the harbor from the city and had to endure the funk in the air day after day.
So where do I go when I need a break from it all? Where else? Baltimore! This hotel sits right on the pier (I think it sits on pier 5... just a guess... =p) by the water (surprisingly not stinky). Once you walk in, your senses will be overwhelmed by color purple. The decorator dude had to be a serious Prince admirer. There are funky symbols everywhere and plush purple velvet couch in the lobby.
Now the rooms. Well, THE room in particular actually. It's called the "Tradewind Suite." It is located on the second floor and it used to be a cigar lounge that they turned into a bedroom suite.
As you walk through the double door, you will say, OH MY GOD (period). Through all my travels in diff countries, this room by far is the most memorable. The bed was phenomenal! High sleigh bed and oh so comfortable.
They still have all the boxes on the wall for cigars (no cigars though, I checked). In one corner of the room, there is a bar area completed with all the glassware and supplies (mixers, shakers, etc) and next to it is... wait for it... in-room jacuzzi!!! I turned them bad boys on and it was simply heaven. Something about taking a bath in a bedroom totally rocks!
Oh, yeah let's talk about the bathroom. It had a shower and the faucets that are flushed into the ceiling so water fell from the ceiling. It was like taking a shower in the rain. LOVE IT!!!
The hotel has only ONE Tradewind Suite and they get booked WAY in advance. Jan and Feb booked solid on weekends already. I wouldn't book this room if you are interested in looking outside the window (e.g. New Year's Eve). The room has ABSOLUTELY no view. It literally sits above the air conditioner units (and there's alot).
I would love to spend every weekend I can at this suite but the room costs anywhere from $500 to $800 per night (pending season).
They also have "Experience Specialist" who arranges bubble baths, rose petals on bed, champagnes, chocolate covered strawberries (do not get this), etc etc.
Go! And experience Baltimore like you've never had before!
Sorry, but I really can't recommend this place. I'm sure there are a few fabulous suits here, but they certainly don't take care of the business clients very well.
Issues?
-coffee or dark stains on carpet
-cracks in tiles
-rust in tub
-missing handle on draws
-room service not available 24 hrs a day (out of luck if you get in late or get a hunger pang)
-blood stain beneath sheets! Ewww...
Anyway, I've stayed at a lot of hotels and I would not recommend this for the biz traveler.
