So, in the middle of the night a few weeks ago, I had to be rushed to the hospital. i live closer to Grady, but seriously, screw that.
I had my friend drive me, through all the red lights of Peachtree St, to Piedmont Hospital. I have never been there, but i would have rather slipped into a coma then go to the waiting room of Grady where I would have probably died of old age and natural cause before they would see me.
At Peidmont, the staff was extremely attentive, warming, caring and informative. What else can I say? What else do you need at a hospital than to be taken care of properly. It actually reminded me of a hospital in the UK where everyone was very humane and responsive to the emotional pains of the patient. ( I wasn't a patient... FYI)
Thank you for taking care of me.

Last year November 2008 I started miscarrying at work and rushed over to Piedmont ER. I got there at 2:30pm and waited in the awful/sketchy ER lobby. Finally brought back to see a doctor 6 hours later around 8:30pm and got out of there 8 hours later around 10:30pm! In 2009 I've been to Northside and St. Joseph's ER which both immediately brought both me and also my father back for an examination (No wait time) and both lobby's were beautiful. I am worried because my OBGYN is with Piedmont and I will have to give birth there and dread ever needing their ER. From what I've read below... if you are admitted the experience is better. Their ER caregivers and the overall environment needs serious work.

I agree with Karin - without a doubt, best place to have a baby.  We had our little peanut there and the nurses were AMAZINGLY wonderful.  The doctor kept us laughing even when it was difficult. If you are interested in limited intervention birth and North Fulton is just too far away (could you imagine 400 North at rush hour while you are in the middle of contractions...no thanks) this is the place to go.  Love them and will definitely be having the rest of our babies at Piedmont! The room service was okay, but there are so many great restaurants within walking distance you can always send someone out for something yummy.

I don't care where the hell I am, if something happens to me, y'all better take me to Piedmont!  I've been to the ER multiple times for myself and other people for many different reasons and have never been in there for more than two or three hours TOPS.  I also had my baby here and it was such an AMAZING experience that I almost didn't want to go home.  Instead of bringing you the standard hospital meal @ "lunch time" and "dinner time", you get to order off of a menu like room service!  The nurses are the best; they care, they listen, they offer advice; I couldn't have asked for a better first time birth experience and it's all due to the staff and accomodations of Piedmont Hospital.  I got pregnant again JUST so I could relive the experience...ok not really but I AM looking forward to giving birth here again!

Piedmont Hospital is the best place to have a baby.  Hands down.  Okay, so it is the only place that I have had my babies but whatever!!  The nurses are so hands on and always caring for you.  The rooms are clean..better be dang it.  The doctors are funny and do the job they need to do!  The food...OMG...the food...how about you get a menu for "room service" that is open from like 6 am to 11 pm at night. The salmon salad is great so is the steak! The pancakes oh yum...and the chicken salad sandwich is wow!!  Okay, so I am getting a little excited about hospital food. And wha?  I just had a baby and my horomones were kickin for some good food.  The nursery staff was always attentive.  Piedmont never let me down.
I must also add that the security system is awesome and intense on the maternity ward.  I felt safe and secure and well cared for and so were my babies.   I was impressed.  Really really impressed.

I ended up having a 7 day stay in Piedmont Hospital (multiple sclerosis). I was edgy and constantly plotting my escape but i have to say, My day and evening nurses where AWESOME! They always always tried their best to keep my spirits high. My assigned doctors where amazing....just when I started to think of a question to ask them one walked in...it was like magic!

My only negative is the hospital transport system. I had to wait forever just for someone to take me to my lab appointment, and when my lab appointment was over I had to wait forever for someone to come and pick me up.  I was stuck in the hallway...half dressed..hair a mess just waiting for a ride back to my room (( i would have preferred to walk but it's against hospital policy)).

All in all, I would prefer to not have to go to the hospital at all...BUT if I have to I would want it to be Piedmont.

I got a concussion playing soccer the other night. My friend drove me to the Piedmont ER. I got there around nine p.m. and got out around 12:30 a.m. While I was there I had an MRI performed and x-rays taken. The ER was clean, quiet and calm.

I've now been to both Grady Hospital's ER and to the Piedmont ER and I can say that I much prefer Piedmont although, like the bumper stickers say, if I'm in a wreck, take me to Grady (which has a certified trauma center).

I've been to this hospital many times, both for my deceased wife and I, both for minor and major problems.
There are ONLY two hospitals in Metro Atlanta I would recommend: Piedmont and St. Josephs.  Gwinnett is excellent outside of Metro Atlanta.
The Piedmont experience is not a hospital experience...it is a resort experience.  Everyone knows their job and seems HAPPY to perform it.  Check-in for surgery is unbelievably easy.  A well-appointed waiting room, cheerful workers....it helps the stress level.
The rooms themselves are marvelous, the food, surprisingly is magnificent.  Piedmont figured out something SO basic...why try to feed all the patients at the same time, letting the food get cold?  Instead, you get a menu and order...room service!  When YOU want.  If you have a test, fine, you don't have to come back to find glued cold eggs, you can have them fresh.
If you wish, they have a VIP floor (the extra is not paid by insurance, but it is WELL worth it....you have an entire luxury suite, a personal nurse, and fabulous service.  Why NOT live like a king in a time of your greatest stress?
The orthopedic floor was absolutely outstanding!  Every single nurse and aide were helpful, friendly, prompt.  They even have fold out beds for the spouses instead of a tiny plastic chair.
Amazingly, they also figured out that families are an important part of the over-all situation, so they have a fridge full of snacks for the families...yogurt, ice cream, soup.  It's hard to describe how important that is when you're stressed and tired...and don't have to go to the cafeteria, but can stay with your loved one.  It doesn't cost them much, but the good-will it generates brings people back for generations.
