Been back a handful of times now, both delivery and dining in the restaurant. Great stuff. The pork tacos were a great start to the meal. Possibly the tastiest veggie pizza I've ever had.

As for delivery, things were taking a bit longer than expected so they through in two pints of their delicious ice cream. They are my go-to for pizza.

My god the food is amazing. Just went to Piccos today for the first time after hearing some positive reviews from some friends. What I had that blew my mind:
    The starters: Carnitas Tacos (amazeballs)
Goat Cheese Bruschetta (omg so good)
The pizza: Meatball, Provolone & Red Onion (the crust on the pizzas are amazing)
They have an awesome selection of beers (Dubbel Reserve was excellent)

I look forward to my next meal at Picco!

After having a bit of an underwhelming first experience at Picco, I was somewhat reluctant to have another meal there bc of of my previous issues with the service. I have to say that my visit this evening with my boyfriend and friend went along much better and much smoother than before.

The food at Picco is wonderful - from appetizers (goat cheese bruschetta and carnitas tacos) to pizza (Neapolitan, Sausage and onion and Alsatian) to dessert (Brownie sundaes and root beer floats affectionately called the "Brown Cow") - this meal, like the first one, was definitely not a disappointment. The wait staff was distant but prompt and while we had multiple waiters and did wait some time after our meal was finished before being attended to, all-in-all it was a significant improvement from my first experience.

I'll definitely keep Picco in mind for another visit.

Good pizza, and the night we were there the Malbec the bartender recommended was one of the best I've ever tasted.

Walked in on a busy Friday night, and we only ended up waiting about 15 minutes for a table.

    I'd definately visit again.

RATING: 4.5 stars (rounded up; very solid food + great quality:cost ratio)
    FOOD:
Alsatian pizza (sautéed onions, shallots, garlic, crème fraiche, bacon & gruyere)
Brussels sprouts & butternut squash pizza (seasonal)
    Pork belly ravioli
    Chocolate Souffle
    Dark Chocolate Sundae

    DRINK: Raspberry lemonade, craft beer
    TIME: 9PM, Friday

    QUICK SUMMARY:
FOOD = Great quality:price ratio. The two pizzas had a great mixture of flavors and texture, with the most outstanding aspect being the dough. The dough and crust were cooked perfectly, as they had the right amount of crispy and simply melted with each bite. Pork belly ravioli was phenomenal-- I only had a half order, but I could have easily eaten 2-3 orders of it. The pork belly was tender, and the ravioli skin was thin and delicate. It was accompanied by a light pinot noir sauce.

DRINKS = Picco has an outstanding selection of craft beers. They definitely have less mainstream options-- so don't expect any Sam Adams, Guinness, or any generic brands (Budweiser, Coors, etc.). According to my brother (Eric F.) and Picco's facebook page, these selections are rotated frequently. I had the Raspberry Lemonade, which was a satisfying mix of raspberry with a hint of lemonade. Not overly sweet or tart.

DESSERTS = A well executed souffle (unfortunately, there was no sauce to accompany it, but that was OK). Ice cream is fantastic. I managed to enjoy the Dark Chocolate ice cream (my bro's flavor of choice) even though I am not the hugest chocolate fan. It was rich with a robust chocolate flavor, with a hint of bitterness that you would expect. The sundae had an unsweetened whipped cream and bitter chocolate fudge topping, which worked exceptionally well with the dark chocolate.

SETTING = You can easily see into the bar and kitchen, and the staff is very friendly and personable. Seating is somewhat limited given the restaurant's popularity (40 minute wait at 8PM, Friday night). Great vibe and tunes in the restaurant.

OTHER = A yelp check-in nabs you a Free scoop of ice cream (on your next visit w/ lunch or dinner purchase). Shouldn't be a problem to redeem it given how often they keep the menu fresh with their frequent updates.

    SENTENCE SUMMARY:
"A 40-minute wait usually starts of any meal on a slightly sour note, but the food, service, and price were just right-- the perfect recipe for a good meal!"

I feel compelled to give Picco 5 bangin' stars once again after a most excellent late night meal last night!  My good friend was in town for the weekend and having experienced the extraordinarily delicious pizza with me at our last visit, we decided it'd be a prime spot for delicious nommage.

I was very tempted by the Brussel Sprouts and Butternut Squash pizza on the first page of the menu, but my eyes landed on "Macaroni & Cheese" it was game over.  The blend of cheeses provided just the right amount of salty, savory flavor and the penne was baked to a perfect al dente.  My only tweak would be to go with a different pasta, perhaps orecchiette, as it'd integrate with the cheese better and be a bit less unwieldy to eat IMHO.  We had Steamed Mussels as well which were were fresh, plump and mad delicious.  Hell, they were so good that we asked for another helping halfway through the first one!

Cheers to the bartender, Nick, as well for outstanding service.  It's always a pleasure to meet fellow craft beer enthusiasts and he was kind enough to let me sample a number of the amazing brews on draft.  On that note, I'll confidently say that Picco has the best draft selection I've yet seen in Boston as I'm really impressed with how frequently the folks here rotate new beers in.

I had been meaning to try this place for forever, because I love good beer and I love good pizza and a few of friends told me that I would love this place. Well they were pretty much right. The pizza was REALLY good- charcoal crispy chewy crust that leaves your fingers black and your tastebuds happy. I had the sausage, olive and broccoli rabe pizza. VERY VERY Good!! great flavor combination and great amount of toppings. And their beer selection is wonderful. I had the Troeg's Mad Elf- which I have fallen in with recently. The price is a little steep, but it's good and on Tremont St, and the place is small... but I'm glad I stopped by and hope to come back again soon.

Tonight, my bf had his usual...pepperoni pizza (well-done).  It was delish!
I started with the pumpkin ravioli.  AMAZING...raviolis stuffed with warm, spiced pumpkin; topped with perfect sage butter and shaved parmesan cheese!  I was the perfect starter.  It went well with my prosecco, which I believe should have been served in a flute, not a white wine glass, but that's just me...the proper glass snob (shrug).

My pizza was pretty awesome: roasted apple, bacon, and gorgonzola toppings.  THE perfect fall season pie! (though we had spring/summer weather today).  The shredded cabbage and thyme added a nice earthy touch.  I loved every bite! My palate didn't quite pick up the celery cream, but everything else was lovely.

    I'm still a fan!

Pizza is really good and the ice cream and sorbet is even better! I've been here several times and love the food every time. Once, we were seated at a table/booth and our waiter came up to us after a few minutes to ask us if we would scoot down to the next table to fit a group of people that had just come in and in return he would give all three of us free ice cream. We said, "Sure!" and even with our smiles showing that we didn't mind at all, he kept apologizing over and over.  They are very generous here.

My favorite ice cream flavors of theirs is the Honey and Cinnamon (which tastes like a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal version of Ice cream!).

My favorite sorbet flavor is Concord Grape!

Their other ice cream and sorbet flavors are good too, but they aren't all unique.  Every place can make a good chocolate, vanilla, coffee, or even salted caramel ice cream, but not many places have honey and concord grape flavors!  They are truly unique and delicious! Be adventurous!

After a 4 year hiatus I'm back in the South End and boy am I happy to be back. I lived here for 9+ plus years prior.....and am now back:)

Tonight, when my 2 nephews ages 6 and 9 found out they were coming to the City from Harvard MA for the afternoon they had so many "food" choices, they do have pretty sophisticated palettes. I gave them a few options....but in the end they wanted pizza and Patriots! So, I took them to Picco. While their parent's were on a "date" at another establishment here in the South End.

It was such a stunning day, I asked them if they wanted to eat outside or take-out, they wanted to take-out (even though they have no interest in football that is), they wanted to hang out at their Aunteeeee's place and watch the Pats!

Soooooooo......sorry, onto my review... We walk in....the lovely hostess can hear me asking the kids if they want to stay or if they really want pizza to go, they 100% opt for to go.  I knew we were going to get to go pizza, so the three of us belly up to the "bar" we order our "drinks" No "sprite" bummer....I let him get a root beer:)

We order our pizza 1/2 pepperoni- 1/2 plain cheese, well plain cheese from Picco is not your typical "shredded" cheese but chunks of mozzarella cheese. I open the pizza box when we get back home, as all you mothers and fathers out there you know when it's best to say nothing, I say nothing because it's "blocks" of mozzarella cheese. I put it on the 6 year olds plate and he eats with Gustooooo, as a matter of fact he said "this is one of the best pizzas I've had" trust me, this kid has had a lot of pizzas:) so, kudos to Picco, you've earned two new "little" guests from Harvard, Ma:) and an Aunt who can depend on you when they come to visit me:)

I adore Picco.  I don't say that about many things, but Picco deserves it.  The food is scrumptious, the beer is creative and rotating, their staff is cute and helps me decide when I can't on my own, and the vibe is casual enough that I can slouch in my seat without feeling self-conscious.

My favorite time to go is Saturday or Sunday afternoon between the lunch and dinner rushes and grab a few stools at the bar.  (The close proximity to the ice cream cooler is handy when I want to try the new flavors.)  What hasn't been said about the food?  For me, a perfect meal is splitting an Alsatian pizza (gruyere, bacon, and crispy crust? heaven!) and the seasonal tacos, topped off with coconut chip ice cream.  I can't think of a better way to kill an afternoon!

    WHY PICCO! WHY?

I loved you.  Your pizza is amazing - especially that arugula, red pepper goat cheese number.  Your ice cream is amazing - even more so when I get a free scoop for checking in with Yelp and FourSquare (these are all 5 star things!).  But your service is horrible.  HORRIBLE.

I've been coming to eat yummy pizza and ice cream here for a while now but on several occasions I have had not so great service - where have all the good servers gone?

On this particular day, it was a lovely Thursday afternoon.  My friends and I (about 7 of us) came over for some ice cream after I raved about the amazingness of it.  We get to the spot, grab a seat out side, get our orders taken and then we wait.  And wait.  And wait.  AND WAIT!  About 20 minutes go by and several folks have come in and out with their yummy orders of ice cream (taunting us!) and we think - hey, maybe they forgot about us - perhaps we'll go and ask.  And so we do, and our waiter was like - OH! Sure - we'll get that RIGHT OUT!   Awesome.  No harm.  No foul.

    Until.

ANOTHER 15 MINUTES GO BY!  And more people are getting their ice cream from the bar and we have NOTHING!  Then we go in and ask AGAIN and 1 minute later our order comes out - melted.  Seriously?  SERIOUSLY?  So you had the order sitting there the whole time?  You just wanted us to show you that we REALLY wanted it?  What's the deal yo?

Now we're eating out melted ice cream and it's pretty crappy.  Our waiter comes over and says the check is taken care of.  Thanks for that - but really it doesn't make up for it.

You're pretty awesome I will admit, and I will greatly miss you since I will not be coming back.  We could have been great together.

    BEST PIZZA IN BOSTON!!!

But I do agree with the others that the service could be better. The first time I went, my friend and I sat inside and had a super-cool server (the chick with the Giving Tree tattoo...LOVE IT!) She was nice, she was quick, and all was great.

But then I came for lunch with some coworkers and sat on the patio, and we waited 30+ minutes for our food. Now 30 minutes is a long time to wait for any meal, but when you have to get back to work, it's an unacceptably (and nerve-wrackingly) long time. There was also no apology when our food finally came out, which added insult to injury.

But, I'll say it again... BEST PIZZA IN BOSTON! I've tried 3 or 4 different pizzas and they were all fabulous. And the summer salad (the one with the watermelon in it) was great, too.

I will definitely be back (and I'll try the ice cream next time, too)!

I know it's been said enough by others, but I love Picco.  I really really do.  Their pizza is just kick ass.  Amazing crust, perfectly salted and chunky red sauce, fresh toppings.  Every bite of a Picco pizza is like an explosion of flavor in your mouth.  Their arugula salad is light, simple, and flavorful.  The pizza is cooked "well done" so we usually ask for it to be cooked on the lighter side.  Great beer selection (I do usually shy away from their wine list which isn't usually has flavorful as their beer list).  I highly recommend the baby back ribs snack or appetizer.  The rub/marinade they use is really unique and delicious, and the meat falls right off the bone.

Oh and did I mention that their brownie sundae is to-die-for?  Dark chocolate brownie with homemade vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream?  Don't mind if I do, Picco.

    Tasty, original pizzas!! We ordered:

(Best Dish) Corn chowder: very good. warm, creamy, packed with plump corn kernels and potato. Very appropriate for fall! ($4.50 each cup. Well worth it.)

A large pizza which was 1/2 and 1/2. We got it 'well-done' which is Picco's default style. This meant the crust was very slightly charred but crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside (none of those cardboard crusts!)

1/2 pizza -- September (Special?): chantrelles, thinly sliced ham and butternut squash. Loved this one -- the ingredients flowed together smoothly. The butternut squash was relatively hidden into the pizza rather than in chunks.

1/2 pizza -- Broccoli rabe, sausage and olives: less impressive than the first but still good in you like the ingredients. the tomato sauce and mozzarella is what really made this one. Olives were whole and pungent, boccoli rabe, not as pungent as I thought it would be but still present. The sausage was more of your standard fare.
    - $23 total for the large pizza

Dessert was a Brownie Sundae with the Caramel Swirl Ice Cream.
Extremely rich -- the thick brownie, the smooth, unsticky scharffen berger hot fudge, the light fluffy homemade whipped cream. My only complaint is that because of all the other good things, I barely could taste the ice cream. ($7.50)

When I return, I think I'll try the sampler for dessert - 3 scoops of 3 flavors for $6.

The bill was ~$25 each total. Certainly returning.

Picco serves the kind of food that should come with an addiction warning, and a list of help centers for treatment. I eat normally and lead a healthy lifestyle, but the moment Picco food hits my system, I evolve into a ravenous-wolf-like being, with no regard for my own personal safety or stomach capacity. It is so delicious that nothing else matters.

They use the most amazing ingredients and one very hardcore oven that makes things taste like nothing else can. I'm getting the fever just thinking about it.

The service is always cool and on the ball, the kitchen is lightning fast, and the beer and wine selections just kick ass. Prices are awesome, almost unfair for what you're getting. I'd pay them double if they wanted it.

Then, when you find yourself seriously considering having a major organ removed to make room for another pizza, they have the ice cream list.
No matter how much crispy pizza and handmade-ravioli you managed to ravage, the ice cream is not to be missed. Housemade with bright, rich, and brilliant flavors, it's that craft-made taste that you just can't get many places. The hard work they do shows in everything I've tasted.

Go to Picco, but bring someone to supervise, and think about having a safety word.

OMG!!! I wish I had known sooner!

It is located a block away from the hostel I was staying at and regret finding it on the last night we were there. The place was packed when we got there but only waited about 10 mins to be seated. The manager recommended an IPA as well as some of their other craft beers, he even came back and asked how I liked it. I think it says a lot about a place for the manager to make his rounds even when they are busy.

I had a Neapolitan and my gf had the red peeper, arugula, and goat cheese pizza. The pizza had big fluffy dough and was crispy. They intentionally "burn" their pizza to give it a unique taste. Both were devoured in a manner of minutes.

They give you a free scoop of ice cream if you check in so we opted for chocolate sorbet and it too was delicious

LOVE this place! Sometimes you're just looking to hang out and have a beer and pizza right? Come on down. Picco's got that brick oven vibe in the interior, with the chalkboards filled with exciting lists of artisanal beers in every shape and color. In addition to exciting pizza topping options... there are pastas, salads, and anything else you need to comfort your soul. Yes, that includes homemade ice cream.

The menu is pretty decent too, and you can get a really nice dinner -- drinks, apps, dinner, dessert -- for a decent price. We've come here after theatre shows. Love the warm ambiance, comfy seats. The secret is their dough.  It is aged like a fine wine before it is turned into a delicious pizza pie.  Prices are very reasonable for the South End. Appetizers are small and while tasty, I would recommend passing on them and saving your appetite, (and money) for the pizza and ice cream.  Great beer selection. Never have pursued wine list myself but my wife has enjoyed their whites.  Service is great but due to the small space the wait is usually an hour. The ice cream is amazing! Free scoop with a Yelp check in!

Disclaimer: This review is from about a year ago.

I went to Picco, a trendy establishment in the South End, with a friend after a night at the theater.  I heard the ice cream here was delicious, so I decided to order it, even though I wasn't terribly hungry.

I decided on cinnamon flavored ice cream, which was a little too sweet.  Not to mention it melted a little too fast and was a soupy mess.  The waitress saw I didn't finish it, so she took the price of the ice cream off the bill.  This is the first time I've gotten free food at a restaurant for not finishing it.

Despite my ice cream experience, I would return here for dinner here at some point.  Even though the selection isn't huge, some of the dinner selections seem interesting.  I may even give a different flavor of ice cream a try.

The Altisan pizza was incredible and my beet/mint/grapefruit side salad wasn't bad either! I showed up around 6:30pm on a Thursday and there was about a 15-20 minute wait. Not bad, but it got even worse as time went on so I would definitely recommend factoring in some wait time to your dinner plans for Picco.

Check in offer of Free Scoop of Ice Cream proved worth while. Very creamy and simply delicious flavors. Will definitely return!

We went to Picco for the first time on 11.11.11. It was one of the 11 new things we had done on that day and we were extremely pleased with our experience.

The servers Ashley and Justin were the best!  They were devoted to making sure we had a great time and that we enjoyed our food. Our broccoli rabe calzone was too bitter for us, but without a second thought, Justin replaced it with another calzone, which was among the best we have ever had.  They also have a great selection of beers, of which we sampled quite a few.

We will definitely return for the food, drinks, and the service.

5 out of 5. Brilliant. Sublime. (insert superlative of your choice).

Also got free ice cream for checking in, which was as good as the pizza.

My new favorite pizza in Boston! This is seriously the only place where you can get pizza that stays crisp on the bottom! No pizza sag, I was in heaven!

They have some fun pizza combos- I had the Arugula/onion pizza and the bacon/creme fraiche/onion pizza. The arugula one was good, more like a salad on a pizza. I love the fresh tomato taste. The bacon one was my fav, so unique and flavorful!

The beer selection is fun as well- around 10 microbrews to choose from. I think they rotate, but when I was there, it was all lighter style beers (IPAs, etc). Maybe they could use a better beer buyer to make sure the offerings are more evened out.

Pizza + Ice Cream + Beer and Wine = one happy couple.

Crispy woods fired pizza where cooked to perfection.  yeah, I lik'em a little singed   Great topping combinationsand that super thin crust is still in my mind.  All in all a wonderful place for a casual meal with a sweet ending.  The homemade ice cream is a perfect way to cap off a nice meal.  I can see myself venturing here quite a bit a the weather gets nicer.

Had really salty mushrooms in a calzone...mentioned it to the server and got an "oh".  Mentioned it to the manager and got "he made a big batch too".  You'd think he'd taste it while making that big batch :-P
No offer to redo the calzone w/ a different ingredient...and I have high blood pressure too...lucky the pills keep from yelling at people from doing dum things :-P

Came here on a Sunday night with a large group (~9) for a friend's birthday. I believe a reservation was taken ahead of time, nonetheless we were all promptly seated with plenty of space.

We followed the guidance of my experienced friend and all ordered the Ceasar salad - complete with large shavings of parmigano reggiano and an awesome dressing, it is now be my recommend as well!

The large pizzas are very filling, between the table we ordered 3, along with a calzone. This was plenty for everyone. I had a bit of the Margherita as well as the Alsatian (sautéed onions, shallots, garlic, crème fraiche, bacon & gruyere), and then some of a calzone stuffed with ricotta, goat cheese, and spinach. The Alsatian was outstanding. Our table also ordered the sausage & mushroom, but it was too far down for me to reach!

For dessert, we all dove into the ice cream options. If you present your CharlieCard, you get 1 free scoop! I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with just 1 scoop, so I went for 3. I ordered the dark chocolate sorbet, mango, and raspberry.

This is some of the best ice cream I have ever had in my life. Ice cream is at the top of my favorite desserts. You need to go here, if just to eat the ice cream. The flavors are really fun, and it's not too creamy or too bland.

We all sampled each other's flavors, you really can't go wrong. It's not typically my favorite, the raspberry was OUTSTANDING, super creamy and the flavor was so pungent. I found many of my neighbors leaning over to sneak in bites! The dark chocolate sorbet was so decadent you would never believe it was a sorbet. Each ice cream is served in an individual dish and the scoops are pretty generous. I had a hard time finishing all three scoops (I can't believe I just said that).

For the quality of the food, the location, and service, this restaurant is really a steal. Two people could easily eat here for under $35 (large pizza for $23 & split 3 scoops of ice cream for $6 + tip).

I love Picco. The mac n cheese is absolutely delicious - it has 4 cheeses, melts in your mouth, and is just phenomenal.  My friend got the spaghetti and meatballs, which were also delicious.  It's cute, reasonably priced, with incredibly nice waitstaff.  Pizza also looked phenomenal.

    Go. Here.

In the 4 years I've lived in Boston, this is the first time I have been to this place. What a pleasant surprise! Good service, and excellent food.
The pumpkin soup is so soothing. You want to definitely get one bowl per person. The Caesar salad is so good, and fresh. I'm not very fond of salads, but here, I can certainly eat one. The Goat Bruschetta is to die for.
Their pizzas are unbelievably good. We ordered the Alsatian, a Salami and a Veggie pizza.

I highly recommend this place if you want to have a good time with friends :)

Went here recently on a thursday night and it was busy but we were seated right away.  Service was very friendly. They have a great craft beer list and I was easily able to find one to fit my taste.  I had the carnitas tacos which were absolutely delicious and my friend had the chicken parm which he said was awesome. This is a definite repeat stop for me!

I apologize for the short review. I could not stand the place long enough to wait for service or taste the food. While I was still undressing a waiter poured water in my glass, giving me a feeling of "lets get this show on the road so you can get back on the road". The place felt very "plasticy" and "made to sell" and not authentic at all. The guests were very young, which also promoted this feeling, as if the place sells a facade and not substance. I did hear their sorbets are very good. I did not wait to try them.

I used to like this place but I have to say that the last couple of times will make it my last.

It was a fun, South End, gay friendly place  Now, it seems like being in a suburban bowling alley at 2:00pm on a Saturday afternoon.  Kids crying everywhere, place out of control, parents looking off in space hoping no one will make eye contact with them over their misbehaving children and waitstaff terrified because they are taking their restaurant out of control.

Stick to the pizza and ice cream. Pizza was ok, but not great. I'd probably ask to not have it well done in the future. All the other food we had was completely underwhelming. The ice cream was solid. Took an hour longer than they said to be seated, but they made up for it by buying a round of drinks. Plus one star for good customer service and follow-up by the management.
