Piccadilly Inn... Home to The Awful Waffle and the Crime Against Design
The grounds are pretty and actually do well at making you forget that you are in a strip mall. But while the facilities may be ageing with some grace, there are a number of opportunities for improvement.
When I entered the building the first thing that hit me was the smell of cigarette smoke. Interesting considering all the rooms have gold placards that say "this is a non smoking room". Thankfully, my actual room did not smell like smoke.
When I opened my door however, I discovered I was at the scene of a crime against design. There were so many patterns and colors going on in the one room... like a freak show that makes you want to gouge out your own eyes, but that you can't seem to look away from. Ok, I exaggerate... but this is what I found:
1. beige and grey patterned wall paper in the room
2. green carpet with red and yellow flowers
3. modern green matrixey design on chairs
4. burgundy square patterned arm chair
5. green striped curtains and bed skirt
6. greenish floral bed spread
7. beige and grey plus stripes pattern on bathroom wall paper
8. irish spring soap style counter/shower in bathroom
9. mismatched wood tint/color on chairs, armoire, headboard, doors
Whew, I'm exhausted! Who needs sheep, you can count patterns to sleep! The bed is well... old feeling but still fine to sleep on. And I had free breakfast to look forward to!
Speaking of which... yeah. Don't eat the awful waffles. The eggs are decent and the coffee is weak. I am not particularly disappointed, cause hey, it's free hotel breakfast. But still, its nothing to break fast over - and probably not worth the refined carbs.
Overall, it was fine. The price was right, the service was passable (though someone did open the door to my room at like 6am and then close it again), and the place does posses a certain charm. And they have free wifi, so you can yelp them from the comfort of your mismatched desk.
Last thing - the best thing about the room was the amazing double shower head, even though it let off a few high pitched wails, it made for a terrific shower experience.
This hotel is a gem. It's got a great old skool feel and charm including a pub with a few choice menu items and selection of brews. The pool is really nice. The room was large and comfortable with a shower with 2 heads!
Definitely a great value (internet special $100/night) for the quality.
We stayed here 2 weekends in a row. We requested the same room and got it. Staff were really friendly and the homemade cookies were delish. I also really like the cinnamon mints at the front desk. Breakfast is ample and real - the eggs actually seemed like they had been cracked before scrambling (vs the usual eggs from a milk carton that is usually served at name brand hotels) - and the waffles are pre-made.
good a/c. good bathroom. good wifi. good breakfast (waffles, cereal, fruit, bagels, danishes). it's a pretty dark hotel though. you know how you get day blindness from walking out of the sun into a very dark room? that's the entire hotel.
true story- we unloaded our stuff and scanned our hotel key card only to walk in on a guy already in the room we had been given. eek! he wasn't naked or anything, but it's still disappointing that we didn't see anything interesting since we were caught in a unexpected double-booking.
we went back to the front desk and were upgraded (damn straight!) to a larger executive king room. i made sure to keep the extra locks on securely, just in case.

Free wifi, free breakfast, comfortable beds. My only complaints are that it took a while to get a spoon at breakfast and that I had to stay in a smoking room because all the other rooms were occupied (prom weekend may have had something to do with this). All in all a great place for the money; I would stay here again without a doubt.
I stayed here for two nights and the whole time I was thinking, "this place is pretty good -- for Fresno." but that's not really a fair assessment, as I've stayed at plenty of hotels in more desirable cities that cost much more per night and were pretty crappy. The shower was actually pretty awesome -- two heads and great water pressure. The thermostat could use an upgrade, and it would be nice to have a bathroom fan, but overall -- not bad, not bad at all.

This place was really nice. Came up to Fresno for my cousin's wedding. Nice pool. Haha. Except my room was small...

Another lovely Piccadilly hotel, one of 3 in the city. Since I live just around the corner from this one I have never stayed overnight, but I have been to a few banquets there. The banquet room is small, but nicely decorated. Service can be slow, but the servers are very gracious. The grounds are nicely kept.
My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary dinner there. It was great.
Born and raised in "NO" town, I realize that we have a shortage of upscale hotels. While Piccadilly WILL disappoint world travels with a taste for the luxurious, it was very clean, the location was right and it did offer certain amenities (e.g. pool that you can swim in, a jacuzzi, suites). The room itself (a suite) was perplexing. Decorated straight out of a Laura Ashleigh catalog circa 1987, the rich greens and obscene floral prints were a bit much. It's clear that this suite used to be two bedrooms, converted into one with a living room. The fireplace in the "living" room was a nice touch for cold Fresno nights. The bed was comfortable, and all appliances worked. I will say that our second bathroom (presumably a selling point of the suite) boasted a shower without a head. We did find the head in the closet, so perhaps it was a do-it-yourself touch. Either way, the fixtures, furnishings, etc were out of date and gaudy. There is free parking (not exactly an anomaly in the No town) and free Wi-Fi. The bell staff is friendly and the hotel bar is reasonably priced. If you must pay for a room in No town, I'd choose this one, just be sure to adjust your expectations.

I stay at the Piccadilly Inn on Shaw when I'm in Fresno for business. They've had the same guy working the front desk for at least a couple of years, which is saying something. The rooms are clean and don't show much signs of wear, although it looks like the decorator learned their trade in the 80's and never developed after that - mauve, floral, brass and wood. Blech. Beds are comfy. The place is quiet. They have a pretty courtyard with a pool... Olivers is the onsite bar and restaurant. Similar decor to the rooms. A tad on the dark side, and smallish - maybe seats about 40 + 8 at the bar. Service is efficient, friendly. Drinks are a little small, but made well. Food tends to be what I call 'old fashioned' meaning heavy and saucy. The type of place your grandparents might have been regulars at 50 years ago. I must say that I judge a place by several factors; What they try to be, what they actually are, how the food is priced, how well the staff treats customers and of course the food itself. Olivers is maybe a little pricey, but the service was exceptional, food was exactly what it was supposed to be. All in all, Piccadilly is quite decent. This isn't exactly fair to the owners since they do a swell job, but after several stays here, I still can't shake the creepy feeling I get walking down the hall or across the courtyard. I'll still be back.
