Review from J M.
Oakland, CA
I found Phuong Trinh Bridal on Yelp and thru a colleague's recommendation. I made one visit one week before the engagement ceremony. I was desperate to rent an ao dai for a Vietnamese engagement ceremony. They charged $30 for rental for one weekend. I picked one and they made it fit perfectly.
I love their service and they were very accommodating about the return as well. They extended my return date since I live in Oakland knew it was quite a commute for me just to return it.
I wouldn't mind going back to this place. Lots of selections and affordable just for a one time event. Love this place! -

Would not recommend this place. Horrible customer service.
- Came here to return a tux and dress for my aunt after her wedding and boy... did the lady yell at me for returning the wrong tux. She walked out to my car and told me that I had returned the wrong tux and had me call everyone I knew to find out where her tux was at. She just threw the jacket in my car and waited outside until I could find out where her jacket was and told me that if i couldnt find it , that I would have to pay a $250 deposit until it is returned.
She would not let me leave until I knew where her jacket was at and seriously harassed me until I gave her info for a deposit of $250 for her missing tux. After 30 mins of being yelled at I was so frustrated that I just wanted to pay the deposit to get away from her.
When I handed her my credit card, she asked me if I had cash and I told her that I dont carry that much cash around and asked my why not? She then accepted my credit card info and told me that my card was pointless to her because I could easily cancel my credit card.
Overall, horrible experience. Got yelled for doing a favor to my aunt for returning the tuxedo. Never been verbally harassed like that before. Definitely would not recommend. -

My parents expected me to have a traditional Vietnamese Tea Ceremony, old school parents, what the hell can you do? I really didn't want to have one, but to appease them and make them happy, which they ended up not even being happy about I'm sure, we went ahead with it.
I didn't want to go out and buy anything special for this event because orginally like said, I didn't want to have one. My cousin had gotten married before me and told me about this place, saying that she rented a bunch of things for a really cheap price. So, I tried it out!
I rented an Ao Dai (Vietnamese Traditional gown), the tea/whiskey sets, some trays, red cloths, and some happiness signage all for $100. Prices are great if you can negotiate, which I did with the lady. Helps a lot too if you are Vietnamese, negotiate like a mofo! The lady is super friendly and very helpful.
The reason I give this place a 3 star is because when you go there, there is just too much crap around, no space to really walk around and actually look at the stuff. Extremely stuffy in here. Also, they don't have a proper changing room, it's just a lil corner in the store with a curtain that they hung to pull over. Be careful ladies when changing, you don't want people walking around the store and accidentally see your goodies.
They do all things wedding here though, from tux rentals to flowers and chairs. It's crazy! Talk them up to get a good price, otherwise, don't bother! -

This place is overwhelming with dresses hung too closely together, and you can't even look through them. I was looking for four bridesmaids dresses but most looked outdated. Also, they don't have enough in stock as well, the lady said reordering is at least $80 each dress, that doesn't sound right... I originally came here because I knew it was a one-stop shop. I was looking for balloon arch decorations and to get some ideas. I'm glad I didn't go for the balloons--tacky! Don't do it!

The best thing about Phuong Trinh are the low prices (inconsistent too, +/- $10 depending on when and who you ask) and the friendly service. That being said, they are slightly scatterbrained. My husband had to go in 3x to get his tux because each time there was something wrong or missing. Good thing he went in 3 days before the wedding so there was enough time to get everything.
I would still recommend coming here though. They charge much much less than other tux places for exactly the same items, and I must say the men in our wedding party all looked quite dapper. Just make sure to pick up the tuxes early just in case.Listed in: Nuptial Bliss

Review from Daisy C.
I ordered my wedding flowers from Phuong Trinh. The flowers were beautifully done and very competitively priced. Three large arrangements, wedding party flowers (bride & groom and 6 attendants), parents' flowers, pew decorations, and 20 boutonnieres for family is only $900 including tax and delivery to the church (Fremont) and reception (Milpitas). You might think they would use cheap flowers at that price, but they used roses, cymbidium and dendrobium orchids, and stargazer lilies. Since we had a Chinese banquet reception, we added on very simple dendrobium orchid centerpieces for only $15 each (including the glass vase, tax and delivery).
The only minor drawbacks are one must write down specific detailed requests (flower types, colors, hand-tied bouquet, etc) because they don't draw up a formal contract. Leave a copy with Kimberley. Get an itemized list of all the items that need to be returned the next day. She only verbally mentioned the flower stands, but I realized the arrangement pots and pew decorations have to be returned as well. -

I don't know what I was smoking when I gave this shop five stars. It was an early review--gimme some slack.
They still have great prices. But, beware, they are really disorganized. They called me twice for the address of my friend's wedding location. And at one point, they called asking if the tablecloths should hang over the table or simply be exact length to the edge of the table. What crazy person wants tablecloths that are exact length of the table?
On one hand, they were very eager to get everything right, and tried really hard. I would still use them again. However, with their disorganization, I couldn't in good conscience give them five-stars.Listed in: Nuptial Bliss

Review from Heather M.
Santa Clara, CA
so I was stupid enough to work with these people to get a good price. Yes the price was very good, but the quality matches the price.
I asked them to alter my dress, and after doing so 5 times, it still never fit right. They only measured my dress after I asked them to, otherwise, they always guessed at how much needed to be taken in. Also, one time I walked in to meet with Kim, and I saw my dress out of it's protective bag among all the dresses shoved together in their shop. It hadn't been worked on either, it was just out there for customers to rummage through. I was sooo pissed off. Couldn't they keep it in the bag in the back room, in a safe place. Every time I went in, it was never it it's original bag, and the last time I went to pick it up, it was in one of those cheap dry cleaning bags, and I had to ask for my real bag to be used instead, and they had to go find it. They had no respect for my belongings.
And another thing, when the dress didn't fit me right in the chest area, they insisted that I buy fake boobs from them to add to my dress. I told Kim, that my dress doesn't need fake boobs, and to fit the dress to my body, and she kept saying that my boobs didn't look big enough, and she wanted to add padding to the dress... *sigh*, I got it-- you think I'm flat chested, and you don't want to bother actually fitting the dress correctly. Don't be so lazy and rude. She did the same thing to my cousins with their bridesmaid dresses.
Next, I order flowers from them, and I went into detail about all the flowers and colors, insisting that they DON'T use yellow, white, brown, red, or peach flowers-- only orange. Well, when I got my bouquet, it had yellow and white flowers in it, and my ceremony flowers had brown flowers in it. And when I asked where my table arrangements were, Kim's husband was very confused. Why? because they never made my centerpieces! Kim forgot! So, I had to postpone my wedding by 45 minutes, on a hot summer day, and wait for Kim to make centerpieces and send them over. When they came, they were a multicolored mess with cheap flowers ranging from blue to pink back to yellow white and orange, Obviously they were left over flowers. Kim didn't offer me any discount or refund since she ruined my wedding. Now when I look back at the pictures, I see the ugly flowers and my ill fitting dress.
I warn you, maybe you can get a good deal and they will tell you they can handle your event, but they are poorly organized and they just don't care. an PS, they don't take credit cards because they do everything under the table. They should be shut down. -

I knew for my wedding that I didn't want to buy a wedding gown because I just feel like it's a waste of money. I found Phuong Trinh on google and went to the shop. The owner Kim is very helpful and I found the perfect dress! She includes alteration, veil, tiara, and dress cleaning for the price of $250 for the wedding gown. She also rents out tuxedos and bridesmaid gowns for a combined price of $100. The shoes are included with the tuxedos.
I think this is a great deal if you don't really have to have THE perfect dress. Her dresses are still very nice and it's a very eco-friendly way to go :)
I didn't use any of her other services, but she also does chair covers, balloons, flowers etc.Listed in: Wedding Stuffs

Renting a wedding dress? I had to see what the hype was about. When you enter the shop, you see lots of wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and other miscellaneous stuff.
I received a binder with picture of wedding dresses, and I wrote down the dress number that I wanted to try. I was tucked in a little corner with a curtain as a changing room. I tried on five dresses, but they weren't flattering to me. I noticed that some of the dresses had missing beading or the threads were coming out.
The price to rent the wedding dress is $250, which is a great price as it includes the veil, accessories, and alterations.
The prices for floral is pretty good too. The most expensive package cost $700. I may consider them for floral arrangements since they help set up the floral in your ceremony venue.
You have to find parking on the street. -

Went there at noon today and while the sign in front said "We're Open, come inside", the door was locked and the lights were off. I checked the sign and for Tuesday's hours it said 11am - 6pm. I waited 10 min. before calling thinking maybe they went to lunch but forgot to put put a sign up. Before leaving, I decided to call. A woman answered and I asked "Are you open today? I'm in front of your store." She said "We open at 3 today." I asked why her hours were listed from 11-6 and she said those are normal hours but they had "to do something today. Can you come back at 3 o'clock?" I said "maybe, thank you" and hung up. I will not even waste my time.

I visited the place and wow, the deal is definitely unbeatable. Like Wendy had said, $250 includes the alteration, cleaning, jewelry, and a headpiece. $30 for bridesmaid dress they already own, also includes alteration and cleaning. and $50 to order a bridesmaid dress for you and be the 1st one to wear it.
unfortunately I didn't find a dress that I like. I am a size 12 in bridal dresses and this place has limited choice for size 10 and above. but the bridesmaid dress deal is definitely something I want to look into. btw, they offer flower service too. I haven't had my wedding yet and when it's over I will update what I think about the service. but 4 stars for the deal they offer!! -

This is actually for a 4.5 star rating because I received wonderful service, but it wasn't perfect. This place is definitely the one stop shop for your wedding needs. I went to Phuong Trinh for a wedding dress and chair cover rentals at first, but I ended booking flowers, cake and decorations with them also. They are a little old school, so make sure you write down every single detail and provide lots of pictures. Kim and her husband are very patience people and will accommodate as much as they can, but you have to be patient as well. If you are willing to put in extra work and some creativity, they can help create a beautiful wedding. Please see my pictures for samples of their work.

This place is good for bridesmaid dress rental but NOT flower!
Bridesmaid Dress Rental: 5 stars
Wedding Dress Rental: 3 stars
Flower: 2 stars
Texedo Rental: 3 stars
(Please go to Texedo Fashion in SJ Instead)
I had Phouong Trinh to do my wedding bouquet and headtable center piece. I showed them a purple mixed flower bouquet picture and gave them a copy. I was kinda disappointed when I saw my bouquet on my wedding day. It have lots of pick and green but not that much purple.......Similar to eileen w., I got frustrated with florist during the planning. Since I am getting the bridesmaid's dress from them, I decide to go with them to have one less thing to worry about. The headtable centerpiece and two flower stands turned out okay but still not as nice and BIG as I expected.
However, the owner is very nice and I got very good deal with my purple dresses for the bridesmaid. I think I paid $90 for three. Their wedding dress's styles are okay but the fabric is not that good. People can actually see that from pictures later on. I recommend you to go for a better place for your wedding dress.
My recommendation is DO NOT go to those all-in-one wedding shops for wedding flower. Go to a professional florist and have nice flowers in your wedding and more important the PICTURES. I have seem bouquet pictures from a few All-in-One shops and they all cannot be compared with the professional florist that I visited. You might not save a few hundreds bucks ($200 in my case) but you will have less regrets for your wedding. My bouquet was one of my regrets during the wedding and I hope you will not make the same mistake. They might be able to make those simple rose only bouquet but definitely not the more advanced one. -

We were very happy about my gown and my husband's tuxedo.
My dress + Necklace+Crown+Veil = $230
My husband Bow+Vest+Shirt+Jacket+Pants+Shoes = $100
Our wedding date is on Monday, but the lady let us pick as early as Thursday, and return as late as Wednesday. We picked up on Friday and Returned on Tuesday.
My dress is absolutely gorgeous and classic.
One tip is that go to the shop as early as possible. We went there at 10:30am before the store open. -
Review from Lyn C.
I thought the concept of renting a dress and BM dresses was a great idea. This place looks a little sketch, but for the money I was saving, I didn't think it was a big deal. There isn't a great selection of gowns, and the only one I did like was too ivory/yellow. I found BM dresses that I liked, especially in the color I wanted, for $40 each. It turns out Kim only had X amount of dresses. I asked what sizes they were and she said it didn't matter because it can be fixed to fit anyone. I was skeptical, but agreed...HUGE mistake. My BMs went in to get fitted, and a few of them had difficulties fitting into the sizes she had available. One dress wouldn't even zip up and to fix the problem, she said she could sew fabric in the back where the zipper wouldn't pull up. I was like, oh HECK no. That was waaay ghetto. I told her that wasn't cool and I wasn't gonna have that, so she ordered a new dress but charged me $70 for it. I don't think I should have been charged for something that was out of my control, but whatev, I let it go.
Circumstances changed and I had to call Kim to let her know I no longer needed her service (This is the part where I wish I could give NEGATIVE stars). She kept asking me if I was sure that I wanted to cancel, asking extremely personal questions, etc...very unprofessional. Also, she kept reiterating the fact that I was not going to get my deposit back, which I already expected and could care less about. It was not easy for me to cancel, but I felt like all she cared about was the fact that she was losing a customer and money. I blew up at her and told her it wasn't any of her business to pry. Her reply? Even though I wasn't going to get my money back, I could get credit from her and use it for next time. -

If i can give this place negative stars i would. If there was a dislike button i would press it with passion! They are the most inconsiderate business i have ever had the chance to encounter. My sister went here to get her dress done but under unfortunate circumstances, the wedding had to be post poned. we explained to the owner that our father is very ill and in critical condition in the hospital and was unsure of when he would recover. the owner made a few insensitive remarks that was totally inappropriate. We kindly asked for the deposit back considering the hardships our family is going through and the inconsiderate b**** said no and gave us a sarcastic smirk. She compared our situation to something similar to a groom having cold feet before the wedding. Over all i would not recommend using Phuong Trinh Bridal & tuxedo if it was the last place to get a dress in the world!!
P.S. they make you tear down and return the decoration yourself when it is suppose to be included with the service. -

We just got done with the wedding and we used Phuong Trinh for flowers and the chair covers. I really should have stuck with just the chair covers though- those were great. But I was just getting frustrated with the flower situation and decided to go with them. It is one thing to see pictures of florist's past work, but it's so hard to know if that is actually how the bride wanted them!
So it was a bit of a mistake. I showed Kimberly the pictures of the bridal bouquet that I wanted, and in retrospect I think it was a pretty complex bouquet and in all with some of my input I think the details just got lost in the communication.
On the day of the wedding, I was aghast at what showed up as my bridal bouquet. Seriously, my wedding colors were lavender and magenta, but what was sitting there was red and orange! And they put CARNATIONs in the maid of honor's bouquet! Yikes. Sigh, thankfully my aunts were able to rig up another extra bouquet and i ended up with the maid of honor's bouquet. I guess every wedding needs some kind of near disaster to laugh about afterwards! But yes, unless you have a very simple bouquet, I wouldn't use the flowers here. Plus the quality of the flowers wasn't very good, not fresh and some damaged. -

I would choose this place over other places to rent wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, tuxes, etc in San Jose. Even though the owner was helpful and extremely nice, the drawbacks were that she hoovered over my shoulder the whole time. I could only find privacy to talk things over with my fiance and family when someone walked in the door. And yes, with no formal contract, she tried to "trick" us a few different times.
At the end of the day, she offers a good price & different wedding services/options.
Rentals:
Wedding gown = $250, Tux rental = $70-100, Bridesmaid = $30 -80, Chair cover = $1.50-2, Picture backdrop = $150-300. -

Thanks to Phuong Trinh Bridal & Tuxedo, my recent wedding turned out great! They are a one-stop stop. You not only can get RENTAL bridal gowns, you can also get rental tuxes, cake, and flowers too. They are very experienced, are great to work with, with prices that just can't be beat!
We got their biggest package, which included a 3-layered cake, flowers (bride and bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres for groom, groomsmen, parents, and family), and rental of 1 bridal gown, 1 veil, 1 tiara, 1 evening gown, 3 bridesmaid dresses, and 4 tuxes. All this for only $1,450. When I was shopping around for vendors, I found out that simply cake and flowers can easily cost just as much. But you get so much more here!!
With their gown/dresses/tux rentals, they do alterations for you, free of charge. My bridesmaid dresses, were ordered from a catalog, so my girls got to be the first to wear these beautiful dresses!
They did a wonderful job with the flowers and cake. Both turned out looking better than I had expected. They decorated my cake with fresh flowers, and even provided us with elegant cake-cutting knife and toasting glasses (that I didn't even know was part of the package!). My guests loved the cake, which tastes like ones from Chinese bakery cakes (ie. fruity, and not too sweet so you can definitely finish the cake without looking for a drink).
I found them by chance online, and initially wasn't sure if I should go with them. I went in, and asked for references. They didn't really understand me. Oh yeah, they are Vietnamese. Their English is understandable, and for the most part, I did not have trouble communicating with them. When Kim, the owner there, finally understood what I was asking for, she pointed to a client of hers, who happened to be in store at the same time. The woman, also a bride, totally raved about Kim and her service. She really put me at ease.
I'm really glad I chose Phuong Trinh for all their services. They made us look great on our wedding day, and made our wedding planning so much easier too. -

I absolutely love this place! It was hard to find a place that rents wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses for a REASONABLE price but this place was it! It's about $250 to rent a wedding gown and about $40 to rent bridesmaid dresses or any other dresses. My wedding is in June 2010 and I have no desire WHATSOEVER to BUY a wedding gown that I will never wear again. Yeah, Yeah "pass it down to your kids" but seriously? The styles we have now is not going to be the same in 20 years. I also love this place because alterations, jewelry, and the veils are included!!
They also do other services like flowers and centerpieces and chair slips. For a reasonable price as well.
I gave 4 stars because:
-the dressing room is a little ghetto. It's a curtain hung up in a corner of the store
-and if you were to rent a bridesmaid dress that she doesn't have in stock, it's about $80 for her to order. I understand she is limited in dresses but come on, I have 7 bridesmaids and the best she could do was $75 per dress.
But other than that, I looooveee this place! And they're so helpful! I can't wait to look gorgeous in my wedding gown that I didn't spend thousands of dollars on. -

Flowers had to be redone in correct color but they got them to me on the same day so that was fast and good, then the chair covers, lots of them were dirty but sent hubby back and they got us clean ones to replace so np. They are cheap. The covers and saches with us picking it up was only 1.25 for both so u can't beat that. Flower centerpieces were pretty too only 20.00 with vase. Will post a pic up right now of it.

I came here to get my prom dress altered. They made it a size 8 to a size 00! :)
The first fitting, there were still a few minor adjustments to be made, and the second fitting was perfect. There was just a missing clasp but they sewed it on in a jiffy.
The ladies here are REALLY sweet and patient. They weren't pushy or rude at all even though I'm really picky. Recommended! -

the prices are unbeatable. yes. so is the deal for renting a wedding dress. even the price for custom made bridesmaid dress rentals was ridiculously cheap, while still using nice fabrics. kim is totally professional and so sweet. but somehow, things don't seem to be working as magnificently for me as for some other brides.
i was little disappointed that of all the dresses they had to offer, i wasn't looking amazing in their dresses. (i found better dresses in other locations, but of course they require buying the dress). i may be expecting too much. maybe the style i'm looking for just isn't the most popular design right now. also, its a little hard to feel amazing when you see all these loose beads hanging by threads all over the bodice.
if you're low on money and you want a decently good wedding, i'm sure that this is the place to go. -

Everyone was very helpful and we got the cake, flowers, clothing, and the church & reception restaurant decorated -- all for an unbeatable price! All the decorations were done beautifully and on time. The clothes can look a little tacky if you really look closely, but it looked great from afar and worked really well. People complimented on my dress the whole night and my husband said the tuxedo fitted perfectly. We do recommend trying them on at their shop to make sure the fitting is good. We had to make a second alteration for a good fit, but that's understandable. The flowers looked great and professional. Our parents loved them. Nice people to work and very helpful. Thanks!
