As far as I know, this is the closest and cheapest bar enar Hunter College, I came here often with my boyfriend and friends. There is usually one waitress who runs the tables in the back and yeah service may be slow.
Their appetizers are huge and very shareable. I've gotten their nachos supreme, always satisfied, and their buffalo wings. I've gotten their real dinner once before and I wasnt a fan
I've sat outside once and it was great, the weather was awesome and the drinks kept coming- perfection
Bottles drinked are $6, and drinks with vodka are about $10
Phoenix Park is like my second home. My friends and I would stop by before and after class or work. The cozy room in the back is great to sit back relax and just hangout with good friends and a good drink. The food is excellent, there is nothing bad on the menu.
There is usually one waitress who sometimes runs the bar so service is a bit slow at times.
$6.50 for a pint of Yuengling, end of story. What kind of neighborhood dive is this place?
Nice place to eat, drink watch a sports game, hang out in the back during summer and just hanging out with some friends.
I seem to find myself here on Sundays watching games, playing games... the staff are friendly and the outside back area is nice and secluded on a sunny day.
Not a hell of a lot of atmosphere. But for Mets fans it's a goody with a signed Keith Hernandez jersey on the wall.
There's a pool table too.. which is always good.
I used to go to this bar all the time in college between classes, after classes, during class. The only thing that I hated about it was it's proximity to hateful Fox News building. It's a dark hovel of a bar when you first walk in, but it's surprizingly romantic in the back seating area , and the food can't be beat. I have yet to find a pub worthy of it. Fat burgers, nachos, soups, salads, everything a muncher could want.
I used to meet random dudes from myspace there just because of the lighting. The beers aren't super fancy , but they have what counts on tap; Guiness. A large group of friends can easily have free reign to howl into the night if you grab the huge lone elevated leather booth in the back. The service there was always stellar, but then again with a pint in my hand, who really could pay attention ?
These days I rarely a in that part of town, but next time i am I might play a little darts and hole up in my favorite little grotto.
Nice back patio seating area. Decent space. No real charm but good enough to watch a game or meet some friends.
I am surprised I haven't written a review of this place. This is my "Cheers" bar. The bartenders are adorable, on most nights, and the crowd tends to be mixed. Either groups of friends, or the olden folk. There is this one man in his 90s that comes in every night at 1:37 AM, and reads the newspaper while taking shots of Jager? I think that is how you spell it.
I had my very first beer here. It was blue moon with an orange. It was delicious. It's such a casual atmosphere, usually there a lot of Hunter College students hanging out. The games in the back and the mini patio are a cute hang out, too.
Phoenix Park is a great local pub. The staff is friendly and the found is always good. The mini hamburger appetizer is the best....and if you're craving homemade mashed potatoes you can't find a better place.
phoenix is a great place - at any time. want to watch a soccer game? go here. want to sit back and have a drink after work? go here. want to loiter until 3 am? go here. the seating is great, the outdoor area is a nice alternative and well, try finding a decent bar on the upper east side - you won't find many! this has to do - and i can't complain. it's been a regular spot of mine for quite some time and i love it!
