If nothing else, this tour is utterly worth it just to spend time with the miner who leads the tour.  An older man straight out of central casting, he comes from a family of miners and is full o'stories.

I also learned how to tell if a mine is structurally unsound (not a big issue in my native Chicago, but still, knowledge is knowledge).

this was a fun place to take my parents. way better than walking through a museum or something similar since that's not really their thing anyway. a word of advice, this place is open later in the season than some of the other gold mines, but if you plan on panning, you should stick to the warmer months, there was ice in that damn creek and honestly, there was a lot of litter. i was surprised, but i guess there are homes on up the gravel road and apparently they are not that concerned with trash. it's not horrible, but i definitely was not expecting there to be trash around.

Place seemed kinda like your typical tourist trap. The tour wasn't very long for the cost of it. The old guy kept saying the same things over and over, and moved very slowly. It was kind of hard to find it, you see one sign for it and then you turn off and keep driving wondering if you got lost or something. There's gotta be better mine tours then this somewhere in Co.

This is a nice off the beaten path place to bring visitors (or do the tourist thing yourself) and have a Rocky Mountain experience.  The mine offers tours and gold panning, with instructions.  Several scenes from the movie "Silver City" were filmed here.

The mine is "rustic" and so are the folks that own it, that's part of the experience.  Don't come expecting tile bathrooms and an eloquent tour guide cracking jokes along the way.
