I decided to visit Pho Truc, even though my last Clarkston-area dining experience was underwhelming (this morning's visit to the Original Pancake House was a big stinky disappointment).  Pho Truc is walking distance from my house, if I were the type of person to walk somewhere.  I know the law of science that goes: Proximity + deliciousness = YESSSSS!, so I was anxious to see how the place panned out.

We ordered some basil rolls, a shrimp soup, and a some-kind-of-beef soup (Boyfriend always orders the kind with tripe in it, so that the waiter doesn't think he's a white wussy boy).  The food took a while, considering soup and basil rolls are probably prepared ahead of time.  For a $15 dinner-for-two though, I'd have waited twice as long.  The basil rolls were among the best I've ever had--they lacked the pork that some other places use, and their peanut dipping sauce was clearly home-made.

My soup seemed a little boring.  I always add the culantro, lime juice, Sriracha, hoisin sauce, and whatever other hot sauce they've got on the table.  I did all that, and it was still kind of bland.  I added some fish sauce and another huge squirt of Sriracha, and happily slurped up the bright red concoction.  It wasn't the best Pho I've ever had but there was nothing wrong with it.  Considering the location and the price, I will definitely be going back to Pho Truc.  With winter coming I won't feel like going all the way to Buford Highway when I need some spicy broth-based comfort so this was a lucky find.  Score one for Clarkston.

I was planning on making a trip out to Tucker or Buford Highway to try some Vietnamese food, but I was put off by small menus and (relatively) high prices for something I've never tried. Some friends of ours took us to Pho Truc, which is within walking distance of where we live, and I was glad to have waited.

Of course, I've never had Vietnamese food before this, so I can hardly compare it to other restaurants. But I don't need to  - the food is so tasty and good that it's won me over. We split an order of the wonderful rolls, with tons of basil and cilantro and fresh shrimp. We both had noodle dishes - mine was deep fried, and had more shrimp, scallops, squid, and a ton of tasty bok choy just the way I like over a bed of super crispy noodles.

I was so tempted to go crazy and order a whole bunch of things to try, like a red bean shake and some iced lemon tea, but decided to wait until I have more money to buy food I may not eat, like Salty Prune Drink. For two of us, splitting an appetizer of three large rolls, two drinks, and a large entree for each of us it was under $20. It's certainly our new restaurant for when we want somewhere to eat in and relax, but don't want to leave the area and are tired of Mexican food.

If you happen to wonder into the Clarkston area and have a craving for Vietnamese food.  This is a place where you can get not just your typical Pho, but any type of Viet dishes.  Pho Truc has live band and music on occasional weekends.  I've never had a drink here but they appear to have some alcohol selection.

As far as the food goes, it's your typical Vietnamese home cooking.  They have some items that are already prepared and kept warm on a buffet type cart to the right of the register counter near the refrigerator.  You can simply ask the waiter and point to the items you want to purchase.  This is ideal for a quick run to get some take outs.  But if you have a chance to sit down, the Pho is decent and comparable to any other Pho places around town.  And if you know some Viet dishes that aren't on the menu, you can always ask and they will make it for you.

If you are among those that love the Bo Luc Lac (aka "shaking beef"), they have some of the best I have ever had in ATL.  This is a dish of seared sirloin beef cubes served over butter friend rice with a side salad.  The salad itself is nothing to write home about, but the beef cubes are tender and the fried rice is very TASTY.

I tend to be a creature of habit so once I find a dish I like at certain restaurants, I tend to order the same thing over and over.  In this case, come here for the Bo Luc Lac, I highly recommend it.  And if you have a chance to return, go ahead and try some of the other dishes on the menu.  It doesn't hurt to try new things, good or bad.  Enjoy!

I was thrilled when I first tried Pho Truc. Up until then I had to drive to Buford Hwy for good Vietnamese food. Pho Truc cut my travel time from conyers in half. Then the real kicker, the food is EXCELLENT.

The Pho is tasty and savory and fresh, fresh, fresh, with all the lovely little tidbits available that you can usually only get on Buford Hwy. They are on Par with the best in Atlanta.

But they don't stop there They also have all the other Vietnamese staples like the sandwiches and vermicelli noodle plates, although to be honest I can't say how good they are since I've never gotten past the Pho.

Also, make sure to order the fresh basil rolls. They come with a homemade sauce that is awesome and a nice departure from the bottled sauce most places use.

If you want to try some of the best Authentic Vietnamese food in Atlanta give Pho Truc Restaurant a try.

OK, Vietnamese summer rolls at their finest! We moved to Alabama & are having severe withdrawals from the Soup & Summer rolls from Pho Truc as well as the graciousness of the owner & their son, Danny, who plays the keyboard with my husband Bob. If in the area, GO! Soup to warm the soul & stomach. Feeling welcomed like Family warms your HEART! Bob & Helen Trammell
