7 reviews for Pho Phuong Nine Restaurant
Recently came to this joint with my wife and her sister. We love hole-in-the-wall's and this one certainly fits the bill. I had the traditional version while my wife had seafood-based and her sister had chicken-based. All very good. Broth was just as good as I've found in much larger cities. Very good.
We have since been to several other pho places in Fresno and have yet to find a place that is better. Yes, there are several locations north of I-180 but we just can't find any other place with better broth. Definitely the farthest away and not the cleanest area of town, but we've never been dissatisfied
So I'm here in Fresno for work, and was in the mood for some Pho. I figured I'd give this one a shot based on the reviews, and I have to say I was impressed.
The neighborhood, well, we will just call it very "cultural". Some interesting people watching on the street. The restaurant is clean but well worn. However, I wouldn't have walked in to the place for Pho if it wasn't - a place has to have some "character" to have good Pho.
The Pho was very good. Not the best I ever had, but it cleared the sinuses and tasted just fine. I walked out satisfied. And for $4.50/bowl, you can't beat the price. I'd definitely go back if I'm here again. The ladies working were very friendly and smiling.
Been here twice so far. This is one of the few Pho houses that offer a seafood based soup. This is pretty nice for a change. If you haven't tried it, and you like seafood, do so. There version can be a bit salty for some peeps taste, but I found it to be just right.
The Pho is also very good, as is the fried rice (combo).
A family run eatery, though there can be a little difficulty with language, they are extremely friendly and are very accomodating. I took my family and my wife's there on Mother's Day. The owner gave our entire group some cut watermelon for a dessert without any prompting. Nice!!!
The Restaurant is in the Asian Village Shopping Center on the NE corner of Winery and Kings Canyon. As it's name implies, it specialises in asian or moreso, south east asian businesses. The restaurant looks like your standard Fresno Pho restaurant. They've been in business there for twelve years and it sort of shows, but it was clean and the tables weren't sticky at all.
Yes, it's in a bad neighborhood. Yes, it's a hole in the wall. Yes, the wait staff struggle to make themselves understood in English. But great hot damn shazam the noodles are great! You can't get better pho this side of Saigon.
If you go go try the large bowl shrimp and wanton egg noodles. Tell them to put in extra veggies. You won't be hungry for the rest of the day.
Dude. Five bucks for a big-ass bowl of pho? I'm there!
I've been here four times now during my stay in crap-hole Fresno for work. Definitely a cool little spot with good service, good pho, and good local vibe. They are pretty bare-bones but they have a seriously dedicated clientele, for obvious reasons. The number nine is my choice. Not a big fan of tendons and fat chunks, so I stick with the safe stuff. Vietnamese coffee on ice for after-lunch refreshment.... yummm!
Not many Yelpers at all here in this town. I think they are too busy putting those expensive rims on their hooptie rides so they can get ready to go cruising for the weekend and hit the multi-plex with their plus-size heinas.
Oh Fresno, how I will not miss thee. But Pho Phuong Nine, well, that's another story. You top Saigon on Fifth in Hillcrest any ol' day. I will have to go back one more time with this last week ahead of me. Pho Brothas Unite!!! (you know who you are ;))
I was so excited after reading the reviews. The broth was delicious!! The best! My meat was very dark and very fatty. I wasn't impressed with the meat at all. Other than that, I loved it!
Really good pho!! Really good pork chops!! That's what we get when we visit momma in Fresno.
Here's the story: my wife and I were introduced to pho when we both (seperately) moved to the Bay Area. I wanted to bring my mother up from Fresno and planned on introducing her to pho in one of our favorite restaurants. But before that happened, we were on the way to taking her to her local Mexican restaurant when I saw the magic word "Pho" in a store window. And then it hit me: she lived next to Asian Village and the large neighborhood of transplanted Vietnamese and Hmong. Duhh...
We've noticed lots of large, happy family gatherings and have even had one there ourselves.
