I've been back a bunch of times now and discovered a couple of my fave dishes the way they fix then here. The usual server is so friendly compared to some Asian restaurants.
I tried the beef chow fun rice noodle dish with black bean sauce. This is different then the standard chow fun dry style. This has like a sauce poured over the noodles and beef. They sure don't skimp on the beef here either. The noodles are super tender, so I know they use fresh rice noodles, rather than the dried noodles a lot of places use. It's like the difference between dried grocery store pasta and fresh made pasta.
The other dish they do really well here, is the Singapore Noodles. A lot of places have this dish, but here at Pho Noodles aka. Donut Bistro, the cook knows how to balance all the flavors together, so the curry isn't too strong, or too weak. The shrimp in this dish are cooked perfect, not over cooked rubbery at all.
I'm glad this restaurant is so convenient here in South Reno. Food is served at 10am, but lunch specials not till 11am. Donuts are always a bonus too!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 24, 2023Previous reviewThis Donut Bistro goes by two business names it looks like. Pho Noodles AND Donut Bistro. I know Asians make some of the best donuts, so I guess makes sense, might as well serve Asian food for the rest of the day, and make use of the restaurant space they're paying rent for anyways! Only in Reno, Donuts and Chow Mein and Pho in one place! The other Donut Bistro location in Sparks, serves only donuts, no Chinese food.
The inside looks like a typical donut shop with tasty morsels on display. Prices are reasonable just $1.25 for a regular donut. My friend purchased a half doz for $7.00. I'm not THAT much of a donut fan, I'm here to see how the Chinese food is at a donut shop!
The menu includes all the standard Chinese American dishes and lunch specials, but also has a few dishes you don't see very often. I ordered the large Wonton soup with egg noodles added for $12.95. It was plenty to share, no skimping on the wonton dumplings here! The egg noodles were cooked al dente how I like. My friend ordered a dish I never saw before at a Chinese restaurant, Lemongrass Beef ($13.45). This dish I'd def get again, unique flavor like no Chinese dish I ever had, tender beef and a wonderful sauce eaten with rice. Both dishes 5 STARS!
My friend loves to get egg foo young and it was on the menu. When we asked about it, the server told us it takes 45 minutes to make! Wow, I'd never heard of that before! It must be good for taking that long! OK, next time we come, we'll order 30 min ahead, so it'll be ready soon after we get there.
Our next visit, Egg Foo Young here we come! Pork Egg Foo Young ($15.45). We also ordered Spicy Sichuan Eggplant with Pork, that didn't sound like one of the run of the mill dishes.
The Egg Foo Young comes out .... Holy OMFG! wow, that's not like any egg foo young I ever saw! It looked like 2 large meatballs covered in a rich brown sauce. I cut into one with my fork and whoa! Not meat inside at all, but a moist mix of eggs cooked with veggies and pork. Normally I'm not a fan of egg foo young, they're usually just flat little patties with some generic gravy on it. This was totally a different animal! (Carson City sayin I heard). The gravy went well with the eggs and it was cooked so evenly across the diameter of the ball. Get this, just to say you did, but order ahead!
The eggplant dish was fantastic, better than I expected for sure. Everything cooked perfect, no tough skins like one other review complained about, just tender and full on yummers experience. Get this one too! Both 5 stars! - Mikhail J.Reno, NV122254Apr 9, 2024
Pho Noodle goes by Donut Bistro for some reason. They serve both Vietnamese and Chinese food as well as donuts! The Vietnamese food here is not as good as the Chinese food. I tried one of the Viet vermicelli broiled meat dishes and was not impress.
What is good here are the lunch specials. Priced just $9.15 instead of like other Chinese places specials going for $10.50 to over $12.00 and they taste better too.
They offer a lot of different specials like the usual dishes of general chicken, to veggies and choice of meat to kung pow beef and even ma po tofu, that you don't see as a lunch special anywhere.
Check out the lunch specials and save some money and get some better food on top of that.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 20, 20241 check-in
This unassuming, strip mall donut shop and pho bistro is well worth your time. I adopted this place as my go-to for both workday lunch refuge and weekly family dinner staple.
This is a family owned and operated business in the truest sense. They take great pride in the quality of their service and food alike. Everything on the menu, including the donuts are worth your time!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 14, 2023
Pretty bummed about this one. I don't usually eat lunch during the work week but as I have been fighting some sinus stuff, I thought I'd treat myself to some piping hot Pho. This place is about 2 mins from my workplace so I thought I was in luck. I was immediately sat in a corner and brought Jasmine tea, the place was clean and lit with natural light.
I order #9 which has chicken, rice noodles, in a chicken broth.
I have never ordered a chicken broth based pho before so maybe it's the norm but I was really sad to not be given basil for my pho, like I'd usually get.
The chicken had to be boiled because it was rubbery and white as a snowflake. Sadly, this Pho left a lot to be desired and I had to add copious amounts of soy sauce and sriracha just to have some minimal flavor. While it was piping hot and all the sriracha I added helped clear my sinuses, I was disappointed. The waitress was very nice and attentive but the food just wasn't good. There are so many great Pho options in Reno, I don't think I would come back here, despite it being so close to work.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 11, 2023
I've been here a few times. Every time it's been a pretty good meal. I always get one of their boba drinks which are great as they are made with fresh fruit. Today I just got pork buns which were pretty good along with a cantaloupe boba. The service is always good. The dining area has both booths and tables. I see a lot of to go orders so I know others like this place.

The environment is very clean and homey. Our server was kind and attentive. The food was delicious and the portions were hearty. It also serves donuts which is a warm and delicious dessert to eat after your meal, which is a twist i especially like. I would recommend.

Food was amazing! The people were so nice! I wish I had found this place sooner. We were visiting family not too long ago and this little place hit the spot. Our usual was closed. This place was amazing. We got pho and fried rice. They accommodated for my son (HF Autism) with a noodle and basic sauce. Reminded me a ma and pa type place. Cozy.

The pho dac beit is the way to go. The broth smelled inviting the noodles didn't fall apart (the stringy onions were my favorite part) yummy. The music is relaxing, it's a very small venue and it gets busy . Please be patient, I believe it's a mom and pop shop just the two of them . You can smell and hear the food frying and you can see it sizzle as it walks by. I can't wait to come back and try another dish

Food is good and price is fair. This being said. They don't have enough people working. It's mom and pop so I'm trying to be nice, but really it was ridiculous. I've been here for 50 minutes and still waiting for my food. Do not eat here unless you have all the time in the world

Happened to see this place while going to the bank. Ordered the pork buns (ate some before I remembered to take a picture) & some donuts. The buns were made fresh & were steaming as I got them. I love pork buns & these did not disappoint. They weren't too salty & a decent dough to filling ratio. Very delicious and satisfying. Looking forward to getting more.
