Review from Scott L.
Another great meal at this family owned and operated place. The Pho is good as are the spring rolls. I tried the fried Banana Rolls and they were also very good. This place looks kind of divey, but what they lack in atmosphere they make up for in good food and fast service. I'll definitely be back.

Had to see what this place was about. my wife came here with some friends and told me I had to try it out. I drive past this place daily , so i finally went in.
I ordered a large pho.
Nice place, it was not too busy when i got there at 10.30, but had about 6 people there when i left.
Lots of table space, fairly clean , easy location to park and access.
The pho was Ok and maybe i'll try a rice plate next time i'm there.
I got out for $10 bucks for a large bowl of pho and a glass of tea. -

1. I normally just get the small beef pho or the Bun Bo Hue with pho rice noodles. The price for the BBH is almost $9! A bit steep if you ask me.
2. Sure they do have a pretty extensive menu with delicious looking items, but I normally go in when i'm hungover, tired or sick lol. One day I will try their rice or pan fried noodO dishes.
3. The workers have their good days and their bad days. Meaning, if you keep asking for things, or tell them they brought the wrong thing out, or pay with card. Then you'll probably get a look or they'll start talking shit in Vietnamese lol. When you order quickly and a lot and pay in cash, then they absolutely love you. HA...HA!
Verdict: This is the only pho spot just a few miles from me and it gets the job done. I miss my fremont/milpitas pho restaurants. -

This family must be doing something right to have three locations...
Viet joints are normally no-frills, and Hoa Ty doesn't stray from that model. The menu features all of the basics, and their versions are good enough to keep diners coming back. I had a bun dish here recently, (I don't remember the number), and what struck me were the noodles used. Not vermicelli as advertised, but more of a spaghetti-like rice noodle. The extra chew was appreciated, but they skimped on the meat for the price they were asking for...
Their newer location on Hesperian is much cleaner than this one. The bathrooms can be especially gnarly. Don't let that scare you off, though... -

I use yelp all the time to find a business. I have never felt compelled to write a review until now. I ordered vegetable pho- spoke with the man about wanting extra vegetables and no meat! I explained to him I did not mind beef or chicken broth because I'm not a vegetarian, but that I just like all the veggies. When I got my soup it was beef broth. That's it. I paid $10 for luke warm beef broth. I'm upset with myself for tipping him before I got my soup. When I said, " I think you forgot the vegetables in the soup" he responded by telling me they have NO vegetables. WTF?

Been coming to this restaurant as a regular customer. After the first day I came the waiter remembered my order every time. The food is quick and I never have to wait.

This place always gives quick and friendly service. The food always comes out hot and fast. I usually order #52 (grilled pork w/ rice), but lately having been ordering the shrimp with vegetables dish that has recently been added to the menu. Both entrees are really good and come with good portions. I love their strawberry smoothie with pearl as well. The one time I tried their pho I didn't really care for it, but maybe I will try it again some other time.

Good pho and a kind staff. I'm more of a fan of Saigon 2 down the street in San Leandro, but the staff here is nice and the pho is decent....
I don't care for the eggrolls here. Maybe it is proper Vietnamese style, I don't know- but the stuff inside the eggroll is more like stuffing or minced meat. I've never had anything on the menu other than the eggrolls and the pho....
I really only come here because it is walkable from my house. Better pho places up north in Oakland and Berkeley. -

My hangover cure. Pho Hoa Ty, that is.
My friend took me here in the wake of a Sunday morning hangover and needed a hot bowl of pho. So I ordered their regular size Pho Tai and actually ate all of it. That never happened to me!
I'm definitely coming back to try their fried egg rolls and their fish cakes, as I was told. -

This place close to us and I think the pho is really good specially when the weather is cold. Have been here numerous times and have liked their food. Most of the time I have ordered number 8, the fresh spring roll, and their fried spring roll.
Must say the food is good and so its prices. -

I used to dine here a lot when my boyfriend and I lived in Hayward. We now only come by now and then when we're in the area. The pho was pretty good when we first started coming here; comparable to Oakland's pho. However, nowadays, their pho tastes like it's mixed with dish soap. I'm assuming they don't thoroughly clean their bowls, which causes this. This makes me sad since this was our only go to pho place in the area.
I think the owners here also own Pho Oakland #1. -

WTF! Did the prices go way up or something? WTF!
I thought we are in a recession!
#30, extra large, extra noodle, and a taro drink for 18 bucks! WTF!
Considering that the pho soup is just a huge vat of liquid for 60% of their items, it's like paying for pho soup made out of Fiji water.
If you want to go on an adventure, Au Sen in Oakland takes the cake. -

I love all Pho.
This place is alright. Generally, their Pho is good but once there was a giant piece of plastic in mine so I asked for a new one but they charged me for two bowls... Not my favorite Pho place but they're fast and cheap. -

Was feeling run down, needed something good in my belly, Pho Hoa Ty filled my need, plenty of meat, good amount of bean sprout, tasty beef broth.
The fried chicken wing was bland, I doctored them up with salt and pepper. -

Well...I had an early lunch here today before an appointment. The service is prompt, the pho is AWESOME, the ingredients taste fresh, and the Vietnamese show on the TV was pretty cool (with fighting and some drama...I think some royal family lost their son or something during a feud...the son connected with the feuding family's younger daughter...or perhaps it was a documentary *I don't know....it don't speak vietnamese* I am hooked on that show it's pretty cool!!!). I had the #20, it was damn good.

Hayward, CA
I love this place, thanks to Christy B! Wonderful service, generous portions, great prices, and the food is comfy and soul-satisfying --definitely soul food on my list.
I love the pork-chops with eggs and rice. Their eggrolls are finger-lickin' good! Even their shakes are delicious - I highly recommend the avocado shake (home made and sooo good for you!).
Don't judge how it looks outside. Just come right in and order and you'll forget where you are! -
Review from Andrew M.
I was craving some pho again and unfortunately I didn't feel like making my way out to Dublin/Pleasanton where I first had pho. So I had to settle with going to Hayward.
I've seen this place many times from going to La Pinata. I'm glad I got to try it out. Prices were about the same as all other pho places and of course, the bowl is huge. However, their pho is done differently then I have originally been introduced to it. They had an onion in their soup and had a ton of tendon in it as well. I also order their spring rolls. Not as refreshing as I hoped it would be but still okay.
I really wish the pho would have had more noodles in it. There was more broth than anything, wasn't really diggin it.
I'm not sure about this place, don't think I'll be back but if you are looking for some pho, desperately, this makes a decent choice. -

I read all these good reviews but it wasn't great. every bowl of pho I've had, has been better than this. the broth was darker and the flank was nothing but chewy fat.
I think I'll stick to le paradiso in Hayward, by the library. it's consistently good. -
Review from Jennie P.
Working in Castro Valley makes it kinda hard to find a decent pho restaurant - so this place is the go-to place for pho in the area. They also have a restaurant in Oakland that I've gone to before and it's pretty decent, so this place is decent as well.
I usually order the Hu Tieu and it's been consistently good. I would have wanted more noodles, but there's all the combination of meats, shrimp and fish cake.
We ordered the spring rolls and there was barely anything in there! It consisted of a bunch of vermicelli noodles, a piece of leaf lettuce, a thin slice of pork and shrimp. No bean sprouts? No mint leaves? Lame. -

Pho Hoa Ty is a pretty good Pho place if your looking for a quick Pho, the restaurant itself is a bit messy, but the pictures on the wall of the food is helpful.
The Pho itself taste like any other place, it really didn't wow me, the spring rolls didn't look fresh, but surprisingly still good tho. -

I was here yesterday order the soup and the queer guy I can tell his a queer because I can smell my own kind well when. I asked how much he said it was 8.25 and I told him how come it was 7.50 on the menu he told me that included tax (no receipt ) with the ATTITUDE !!! And the worst part he spoke his dialect with someone about that incident .

Best in the area. While it doesn't meet the quality that little Saigon in the city has to offer, the broth is delicious and they provide excellent customer service. Plus their boba drinks are cheap (the avocado one is my favorite).

One of the better Pho restaurants I've been to in the East Bay....
What makes it even better is the Hot spicy chili oil that they have...that you would think every Vietnamese restaurant has...but they really don't!
So, that's what I normally look for...

Pinole, CA
Came to this place for the first time with a few of my frat buddies, and I've been here at least 2-3 times more. To be honest, this pho place is like, a combination over every pho restaurant cliche in the book. It looks super dirty, had a crapload of random decorations on the wall, neon green chopsticks, melancholy servers that give you 10 seconds to look at the menu, and a pretty good bowl of pho.
The pho here is actually pretty good. Its everything else that I just mentioned that knocks this place down to three stars. Usually when I come to pho places, I end up squirting a lot of oyster sauce and sriracha into it to add some extra flavor, but when i come here I barely have to put any in. The broth is the most important part of the pho for me, so not having to add much to it to make it taste good is a big plus in my book. I've ordered the bun here before also, and its pretty good. I get worried with certain pho restaurants bun because sometimes the meat comes out wrong, but with this place, its came out tasty every time.
Everything else is pretty bad though. This is one of those places were I'm just waiting to find something really bad in my food. Yeah it's that dirty looking. Gotta make sure to wipe down those chopsticks real good before using them ya know. It also doesn't help that it's in a pretty ghetto location. Like most any other pho place, the servers really do only give you a few seconds to look at the menu. If you ask for me time, they'll be back again in another 10 seconds. Makes you feel hella pressured into ordering something quickly.
This is a good place to come for a really good bowl of pho, if you can get over all the outside negatives associated with it. -

First time I came here and ordered to go they kept rushing me seeing if i was done yet until one of her coworkers told her to wait until i say so. I finally knew what i wanted and waited for it to be done took a couple minutes and it was done fast service yay paid for it went home tried it (the spicy beef stew) it was chewy (not a fan of that)
Second time i came here i ordered an extra large bowl of pho and another large pho bowl. The owner had taken my order and we chatted for a bit until my food was done. He gave me more extra stuff that i had ordered for and i paid for the meals. Went home and ate it and it was really good they even had lots of meatballs in there! -

When I'm at CSUEB and want pho, this is one of the first places I think of. It's close enough to travel to if you're on a 1-hour limit lunch break. The service is fast and friendly and there's never a wait. It's not spectacular food and it's not too shabby either.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The pho is good don't get me wrong but the service is horrible and the restaurant is just dirty. I've had some nasty things show up in my food but this place is by far the nastiest. While I was eating my pho, I found a black wing, yea thats right a black wing the size of my pho. I freaked out and told the waiter and he acted like nothing was wrong. His response was, "Would you like me to remove that for you?"
I understand I'm paying for cheap food and shouldn't expect high quality service but I don't know about you but I definitely don't want any bug's wing in my food. Nonetheless have the waiter REMOVE it for me instead of replacing the bowl. He didn't even offer to compensate me for the bowl of pho. Whatevs tho, I paid for my meal and left and I am definitely never going to return again. -

Without having to drive to the heart of Oakland or the outskirts of San Jose, this place has the best bowl of Pho by far.
Reasonably priced, huge portions of meat, excellent steaming hot broth, there isn't much more to ask for when you are looking for a bowl of Pho.
If you aren't in the mood for their Pho, every other dish I have tried have also tantalized my taste buds. I would recommend (other than Pho) the #33 (Mi Lon).
This place definitely gets the 5 Star rating from me.Listed in: Top Restaurants Around The…, Oodles of Noodles...

When it's cold and dreary outside, there's nothing I want more than to snuggle with a warm body under a cozy duvet. But when that's not an option (and unfortunately that's not an option at work), a bowl of pho is a close runner-up.
So what if this place isn't the tastiest (heavy on the msg, skimpy with the basil), cheapest (about $5.15 for a medium bowl), nor cleanest pho joint I've ever visited. It is the best within a 10 minute drive from work and convenience trumps everything. Oh, and their spring rolls do rock.
Quick, efficient service - you can be back at your desk in half an hour, leaving sufficient time to continue daydreaming about cuddling in bed.Listed in: When cafeteria food just won't…

Their menu says "Pho Oakland #1" so I take it this place is related. I haven't tried the restaurant in Oakland yet so I didn't know what to expect besides the good reviews here.
However, the pho wasn't 5 star quality for me. I ordered Pho Tai Gau, and while the steak and brisket were fine, the broth was a bit heavy for me. The broth was fairly dark, and my first sip tasted heavily of anise and fish sauce. It did balance out as I ate more but I really could not drink the whole bowl. The noodles were fine and the basil and sprouts were fresh.
I can understand why people like this sort of broth, it's full flavored, on the sweet side, and plenty salty. The broth reminds me of Pho Hoa Hiep's in Oakland. So if you like this place, you'd probably like that spot as well.Listed in: Vietnamese Food, Pho Quest

Whoa! =]
Okay, a year ago I wasn't a fan of Pho. I thought Pho was short for Fondue, and of course I didn't know to spell both of them because I never used it. However, I live in San Jose, and there are many populated areas of Pho restaurants. Some are okay, and some are eh! I've tried Pho places all over San Jose. Alum Rock, Tully Rd, Capitol Expressway, etc all are okay, but I'm not so crazy that I will be coming back. I actually found this by mistakes because my best friend and I wanted something warm, since it was cold, we were driving by decided to stop.
It was a nice small area, not too big where the room echos, and not too small that someone may bump into your chair, it was just right. hahaha Goldie Locks! Anyways, they have alot of dishes, and soup. My personal favorite from here is the #29. IT IS THE BEST! I had never tasted broth sound tasty. The soup was REALLY HOT, which how I like my Pho. The Pork is lean and filling. The Shrimp is fresh. The Chicken is AWESOME! Boneless, and is oven roasted. Its slice so you get a good chuck of chicken. The bowl size is very filling in my perspective. Just a regular, and I am H A P P Y. Pricing is also very nice. I always pay under $8 for Pho here.
Overall, if I ever wanted Pho, I would drive to Hayward from San Jose to have it. Its it so worth the drive. =] -

Thank goodness for this place. This is my boyfriend and my safety lunch/dinner spot whenever we don't feel like driving far, spending a lot of money, or trying anything new. With that said, we come here enough that they know our orders by heart: Two number eights, spring rolls with fish sauce, and two thai teas with no pearl.
Their broth is good 99.8% of the time. That 0.2% represents a couple times right before closing time when it's been sub-par. Also, they just recently changed to a different brand of fish sauce that doesn't taste as good. I almost knocked a star off for that... but I wouldn't. I heart this place. -

What makes this place different from all the other Pho places in the east bay is the broth. Its the best pho i've had!! Their "small" I would say is a little smaller than other establishments but still enough to fill me up.
Service is always quick and friendly too. Only thing is that one may think this place looks "dirty". (its not) I'll admit it could use a makeover but still great food and service. I've been coming here for years and its never left me dissappointed :) -

No more.
I didn't really mind that this place wasn't amazingly well kept the past few times I've been here. Service is okay, prices were decent.. for a pho place that's all you could ask for. However that wasn't the case when I came back with a few friends of mine recently..
-There was a fly in my friend's egg roll dipping sauce, which I noticed after she was already on her last 2 pieces =[
- My other friend took out a piece hair in her pho
- The wrap for spring rolls I ordered were too rubbery
Sadly after that I don't think I will ever come back here again..1 Previous Review: Show all »

After eating at the overpriced garbage can known as Asia de Cuba in SF, it was nice to come back to this area and dine on food that actually had flavor.
Pho Hoa Ty has good, solid, tasty pho and good rice dishes. Its prices are comparable to other pho places around the area, and as a few other people mentioned, the broth is very tasty indeed.
To be a snob for a minute tho, I live in So Cal, and while almost every other cuisine is done better in the Bay, Vietnamese and Korean are the two that I have yet to find done really well here. -

I've tried about 3 pho places in the area randomly just to find a good one that to stick with when the pho want turns into the pho NEED. This is the place. Fast, nice staff, good prices, and the best in the area. Done.
This place made my life simple and simply beautiful.
