Neighborhood: Northeast PortlandOkay, so the atmosphere sucks. However, I've found the food is some of the tastiest of any vietnamese place in Portland. I'll admit that some dishes are a bit on the greasy side, but overall quite tasty. Their pho is the most flavorful I've had in Portland. For full disclosure: I tend to stick to Pho Ga and Mien Ga. I've actually found the pho can sometimes taste different depending on the day of the week---must be different cooks, and they must not use the same recipe. Despite that, it is always good.
The service is generally quite good too. If you're there when it isn't packed--mostly in the evenings--they'll generally sample some things on the menu for you--like a different soup or dessert.
Yeah, it is pretty far out NE, but if you're in the area and looking for a cheap bowl of delicious pho noodles--definitely give this place a shot.

Pho DaRat. What a funny name. I know you're probably sayin, "um, dumbass, it's pho daLat." Here's the thing, my mom and all of her asian friends always switch their "r's" and "l's" when speaking engrish. For example: if I walk into her house and say, "Hey mom, what's happenin?" She'll reply, "Herro, you hungly?" Good times.
So based on my personal experience with oriental people and the whole R vs L confusion, I can only assume that the owners of this place meant for it to be Pho Da Rat.
While I didn't actually see any rats eating pho here I did enjoy some myself. The service and value was good and there is plenty of room here. It's a pretty decent sized joint so bring your friends, moms, and rats and have yourselves some tasty beef and noodle soup.
Pho DaRat, FTW.

I think this place is pretty OKAY, but not the shittiest bowl of pho I've had... and trust me I've had some poor excuses for a bowl of pho-- especially in the midwest where terrible asian restaurants were abundant. Not mind blowing, and I probably wouldn't go out of the way for this place. For the moron that posted that this place is pho da rat. or was LIKELY meant to be named that.. um yeah. Da Lat is a city in vietnam ya idiot and I don't think asian immigrants speak that way... atleast people in my family sure don't. I just find comments like that highly offensive and a cheap shot at other people's accents... based on your experience with "oriental" peeps. On your next review you should go find a restaurant run by blacks and make fun of the way they speak and the place of their operation. I'm looking forward to that one:)

Go! Go! Go! If you want great pho at an amazing price - Pho Dalat is the place. I've tried most the others in Portland, always with a sense of disappointment - Pho Dalat has spoiled me, especially with their Pho Ga. The chicken is tender and succulent, and they're one of the few I've been to that have all the right additional ingredients as well, brought fresh with your meal on a separate plate.
The atmosphere is simple, it's all about the food.
