6 reviews for Pho 95
Oh, how do I love pho! This place is so cheap, and awesome! This place has ruined me for all other pho places. It is pretty authentic, and a bit scary from the outside. You will not be the only English speaking person there. The menu explains everything also- And they do not just call it beef and throw in random beef bits. You can choose what you want in it. Go on in though, you will see how great it is. Their spring rolls are nummy too. My mom even goes here for breakfast sometimes. Also, a warning- do not order a large bowl unless you want to swim in it. A small bowl is too much for the average person to finish (unless you are my husband).
Strange story about here- my husband was so sick a couple of Christmases ago. He couldn't eat for 2 days, until Christmas evening. All he wanted was pho. I knew that no place would be open on Christmas night, but guess who was. He was so happy!
Pretty dang good Pho
I like this place for the food which is very reasonably priced and its funky location. It's a small place next to a Vietnamese market. Service is good and the place has an ethnic aura about it. Open late too for those who eat late [not me]
My Vietnamese friends prefer My Lan to this place, but my American ones prefer this one. Huh. Wonders never cease. My own Asian pedigree usually has me ordering rice dishes at either place, so I can't judge pho.
The skinny: First, this place is pretty cheap. If you don't like the food, you're only out five bucks. Second, their food really is pretty good; there's nothing "weird" unless you order it. You get a pretty large bowl for a small, so that's all you need. Ordering soft drinks at these places is blatantly, um, American (hey, I'm trying to be "culturally competent"). Try their lemonade or tea instead. I skip the side sauce they make to pair it. Its mainly made with fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, and such but since I hate fish, I steer clear. I know, I'm a cheap date.
Word o' caution: know your meat cuts and order them. I have a friend that keeps accidentally ordering what is probably organs in his pho. I say that's what he deserves for his ignorance. But whatevah.
Usually I would rate this place a four. But, due to the last couple visits where there was an inordinate amount of hard bits in what was supposed to be shredded chicken, I've knocked them down a star.
Pho 95/96 is delicious! It's my favorite pho place in the Little Saigon area because the pho and spring rolls are delicious and inexpensive, the restaurant is open late, and the Vietnamese music they play is awful. You can't go wrong eating here!
My husband gives this place two thumbs up. Good pho, okay spring rolls, good service, cheap soft drinks and the bubble tea looked pretty good. The price for a large is only 6.50 for eye of round, which in my book is pretty good.
